Big Bar is all about the atmosphere — and I love it! Sitting in the front patio/garden area is wonderful. I came here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends and the staff was so accomodating, giving us a table in our own private corner and constantly checking in. I thoroughly enjoyed my beer(Irish stout) and also loved the cheese tower we ordered for the table. I look forward to returning here for breakfast/brunch on a weekend!

Mixology or neat. Enjoy the timeless bar and the great service. I come here often and the drinks are measured and poured with care. A location with or without guests. You’ll enjoy yourself either way.

I came here for a birthday celebration on St. Patty’s day and loved everything about Big Bar. The staff was super welcoming and friendly, the ambiance is great, and the food and drinks are fantastic! The staff was really accommodating. We kept adding people to our group and they repeatedly came over with extra chairs and made sure we were all comfortable. Big Bar has a café feel to it but it’s a spacious restaurant and includes a full bar inside. You’re surrounded by lots of greenery and lights, which add a lot to the relaxing atmosphere. We ordered a large Cheese Tower for the table. It was soooo great. It includes an assortment of cheese, fresh fruit, crackers, bread and some candied walnuts and dried fruit. All delicious. We were pleasantly surprised by how much food it was and it makes for a perfect appetizer for a large group. We also ordered a round of the Old No. 38 for the table. It was St. Patty’s day after all.

Yeah it’s kind of pricey, but everything is great. The drinks are done well, the good is delicious, the bartenders are nice, and the place looks great. They have a late night menu with tons of options, so you can still order food at the wee hours. Cheese plates, stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, fries and onion rings with chipotle ketchup, and guacamole with homemade chips are all recommended. The serving of guac is huge!!! Just FYI. Plus… You can run over to the other side(the alcove) and go some with some delicious baked goods like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and cakes!

Happy hour here is phenom! Basket of fries and glass of wine on the patio. Also, if you like bacon, dates and goat cheese you have to try«pig dates a goat» … So yummy!

So I read this LA Weekly article about the 5 best pina coladas in Los Angeles, and this place was on the list. My girlfriend and I decided to check it out as we both love pina coladas. We walk in and are immediately digging the atmosphere. It like a coffee shop fused with a bar – total hipster place, but it was so unique we didn’t care. The building is split in half. On the left side is the bar. It’s a little darker and feels like how a craft bar should. Then right through a doorway is the coffee shop, which sells food, baked goods, coffee, and tea. It’s a little brighter and has the chalkboard menu and everything. Out front there’s a big patio – maybe 20 tables. It’s great if you’re with some people who are under 21 because you can bring out your drinks from the bar while they enjoy coffee or food from the coffee shop. The best part is both the coffee shop and the bar are open until 1am, so it’s great for a late night snack. One minor hiccup. I ordered the piña colada at the bar and the bartender informed me that they no longer serve that drink. She said that they have seasonal drinks since they get all their ingredients fresh. I understand, as it’s not their fault that LA Weekly failed to inform me of this. Nonetheless, I looked at the menu and saw that they make a craft gin fizz. I’ve always wanted to try one, but I hadn’t found a place that can make it since they never have eggs. So I ordered the drink – about $ 12, but not bad considering it’s a decent size with no ice – and it was amazing! Maybe one of the 3 best cocktails I’ve ever had. My girlfriend doesn’t like most alcohol, but loved this drink. She drank almost half of it. She ordered the mint tea, which was about $ 3, but huge! And again, it tasted amazing. I’d never been a tea fan, but this mint tea was addicting! The food was good, but a little pricey. We had the angus beef sliders – which came with 3 sliders, however costing us a whopping $ 13! The bowl of fries that our friends ordered was pretty big, but cost them $ 8. Apparently they have a happy hour where these items are half off between 2pm and 7pm during the week. Parking was easy, and it was a Saturday. We parked literally right across the street for free. My recommendation: As far as the drinks go, this place is a winner, since we only dropped $ 16 between the two of us(gin fizz and mint tea), but the food is where it gets a little pricey. You could go somewhere else for that. However, you’re getting it all in one place and the atmosphere is unbeatable, so you’re probably paying for that as well. We don’t go to many bars, but we’ve gone to the Big Bar twice in a row now. We really like this place!

The bartenders are all super hot, kind, accommodating gentlemen at your beckon call! I felt like a princess! One of the bartenders made a Moscow mule very specific to my liking and it was perfection. The food was nothing to write home about but that wasn’t why I went. Next time one of my girls is feeling down on her luck, I will definitely have her meet me there. Bravo to whomever does the hiring!

We could not have had a more pleasant LA experience than we did yesterday when we happened upon Big Bar in the center of Los Feliz. We sat at the bar which is rather small and elegant with a Carrara marble top and an intimate feel. The bar opens on one side to the bakery and on the other to the lovely umbrella studded tiered patio. Both areas were crowded, but the bar was like its own little world. We split a burger which was covered with lots of perfect avocado wedges. Vermont cheddar, arugula and bacon. It was served with a side of grainy mustard and mayo. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. The roll was a grilled brioche which added some nice flavor while not overpowering the burger. There was a crisp apple and pear slaw on the side. Perfect. Other reviews have referenced some mean bartender. Ours was helpful, creative, and unfailingly kind. We couldn’t have been happier with our visit.

Big Bar serves some really good cocktails at a premium price, but you can’t help but feel like you’re getting your drink on in a coffee shop — which is exactly what you’re doing. The bar feels like an afterthought, tacked on to The Alcove which has already carved out such an identity in the neighborhood. Great drinks, weird setting.

Their Old Fashioned is quite possibly the best old fashioned ever in the whole state of California. Maybe I’m just muddled(pun intended) but the bartenders here really put a lot of meticulous care into the drinks. Drinks such as the old fashioned and Caprihana really require baby-steps and much love, all of which the guys, and gals, here do very well!

So here’s the update. The horrible bartender with atrocious people skills still works there. She hasn’t changed. She must have something on the Manager or Owner to still be employed. However, this place is essentially across the street from us so we have been back several other times. Every other bartender has been over-the-top nice, professional and quick. All the food we have tried since is solid as well.

Grab a seat and ask mixologist extraordinaire Sean for a drink! My Bloody Mary was solid… love the giant cube block of ice served with olives, no celery in sight. Sean later made the perfect summery cocktail for me after I told him I was craving basil with vodka. Will definitely be back to cool down with a refreshing cocktail or two in the hot summer nights. Big Bar is nestled on Hillhurst next to Alcove. Meter park if possible otherwise valet is $ 5

I really dig the cool French bistro atmosphere(which is really more attributable to Alcove Restaurant than the bar itself). Went here on a Saturday night to meet up for drinks with a few folks and the place was PACKED wall to wall(which isn’t saying much about the size, but still). Their specialty cocktails will put you on your tippy toes and the mixologists(I’m pretty sure you are going to have to address them as such considering what they have on the menus)… are quite friendly. We ended up bouncing from Big Bar to find a larger place down the street, but I would definitely go back on an off night. Also noticed they had a flyer for their free movie viewings this Summer. Spaceballs was one of the upcoming flicks — WIN.

A wise man once tried explaining to me that Big Bar is in Alcove and something about the ordering, I didn’t quite understand what he meant but tonight I was here to finally check this place out myself. They do however hold separate addresses otherwise they can easily be considered one place. We came to Alcove for a little dessert after dinner, ordered and then walked into Big Bar to snag one of the two, possibly three tables they have beside the bar. This space is really intimate and wonderful. We had a few Cabs, a Malbec and a Tempernillo — all ok selections. Bartenders were nice. I really enjoyed the space, sure it’s not quiet but it’s buzzing, slightly loud and lively in the best way — the way where no one seems to wear on my nerves and there’s just a calm in the place where everyone is relaxed and enjoying themselves. Service was great. This is a solid casual date spot, grab something to eat, drink and relax place. We’ll definitely be back!

I came here expecting Alcove food but got Big Bar food. I left satisfied, but it was a confusing experience. You can still get Alcove pastries, which that and the ambiance are the only reasons I love Alcove, anyway. So it wasn’t a complete loss, but the food wasn’t extraordinary, either. If you’re already here, you need to try the bacon wrapped dates. I don’t like bacon, and I’ve never had bacon wrapped dates, but now I find myself searching for this dish everywhere I go. It’s seriously a problem. Other than that, Big Bar is just average with great ambiance. They have white Christmas lights along their patio seating area at night which makes it rather romantic. So, is it kosher to recommend this place even though I probably won’t be back?

Came here for opening night of the season for movies on the patio. It was my first time here, and I really enjoyed myself. They showed Indiana Jones and had themed drinks and food in addition to the regular menu. We shared the mezza platter which was delicious. I had two different kinds of wine, and my friend had a special drink and enjoyed it as well. We shared some decadent chocolate dessert that we couldn’t even finish, it was so good and rich. What made the night extra great was our fabulous server, Kyle. He just had a great attitude and air about him. Already planning on going back. One tip– get there a little extra early for movie nights, as the patio fills up!
