Admittedly, my last meal here was not so great. But the signboard today advertised Enchiladas Poblanas, enchiladas with a thick mole sauce. It’s been a few years since I last had this dish, so I had to try. No disappointment today, enchiladas with rice, beans, salad, slice of melon. Delicious! I did rashly try to eat the roasted jalapeño before removing the seeds, but hey, my bad there. The next time I see a special Iike, I’ll try it again.

My review of Bionicos is less about the food than it is about the service, but I’ll get to both. Tonight we had a most unfortunate experience with the owners of Bionicos Genesis in which the man attempted to start a fistfight with my wife because they were illegally blocking the alley leading to our parking garage, leaving us stuck in oncoming traffic and nearly getting us killed by a passing bus in the process. The alley they plopped their pickup in blocks the parking lot of the Mercantile Lofts, where around 50 – 60 people work and/or live, as well as a private lot with dozens of cars. In all, their selfish act didn’t just inconvenience and almost kill us, it also trapped around 100 people from getting in or out. People trying to get home, or get to work. Thank heavens their wasn’t a fire or some other emergency, as their selfish act could potentially have been more disastrous. When we frantically yelled at them to move their truck, the guy and his wife refused and instead, stupidly started screaming«come on and try it buddy, I dare you»(in reference to trying to squeeze our vehicle past them) like a schoolyard bully. Meanwhile, our car was literally stuck on 7th street, in danger of getting hit by a car. He then attempted to approach our vehicle to assault my 5 foot tall wife(big man, trying to assault a woman), but when she screamed and started to dial 911, he backed off and finally moved the truck. Yes, that alley is super convenient to park in while you load and unload, but it’s illegal, insanely dangerous and unfair to dozens of people to park there and block the only egress/ingress for dozens of families. The next time it happens, I’m calling LAPD. Now for the food and drinks… twice now, we have wanted to go here to grab whatever fruit drinks they have, but I am speaking honest when I say that the smell of old human urine wafting from the alley next to their establishment will ruin your appetite. No seriously, that alley they so jealously hogged with their pickup is one of the nastiest places in L.A. Also, consider this: When they park in the alley to load or unload, they are carrying fresh, exposed fruit through an alley filled with urine and feces and then serve it to customers. If you can hold your breath long enough to order, the whole place just looks dirty and we opted to stay away. What I really did not like was the fruit sitting in ice outdoors in the L.A. heat, with the aroma of urine so prevalent. While the ice may help keep things cool, the particulates from urine and feces(this is just an unfortunate part of downtown L.A.) from the alley can, will and does settle into the ice and by extension, the fruit. A *lot* of homeless people pee and poop in that alley. I’m not sure if the owners realize this, but it’s incredibly unsanitary and opens up the possibility of food poisoning. Also, they have a tendency to leave hundreds of empty fruit and food boxes sitting on the street, sidewalk and the alley for someone else to clean up. Disgusting! But given the behavior we encountered, I’m extra glad we didn’t grab a bite here.

Love me some agua frescas! Bionicos Genesis sells juices, smoothies, and food. This place is next to the tailor I go to and occasionally grab a drink on a hot day. Their drinks can be inconsistent sometimes. At times too sweet and other times not so much. Agua frescas is $ 3 for a large which isn’t bad. I had the watermelon(sandia) agua fresca the last time I went and it wasn’t as sweet as I’d like. Not bad though. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the Garment District.

Everything looks good, colorful and i suspect if i try the right thing i will love something, unfortunately i just paid $ 9.26 with tax for the worst Torta Cubana ever. The bread was bad and old, my Torta fell apart on the first bite, i had a hard time finding the slivers of avocado and cheese, meet was dry, cheap ingredients. My Passion fruit water was great, my wifes tacos were decent, my sons fries were ok. expensive for a mexican place without justification
