Worst Costumer Services EVER… I called the 888 number on the back of the card and I was informed to call back in 2 hours. WTF… I couldn’t believe what I heard for a minute I thought the agent was joking with me. I was very upset. why answer the phone ??? I’m going to dropped them as my insurance carrier.

I’ve never dealt with a more inept business in my entire life. I had to bring a claim to the State of California in order to try to get these guys to actually get back to me about a mistake they made with billing. You will go through tons of very well-​groomed over-​speaking employees to try to get the most basic thing done, and even then you will wait and wait and wait, and no one will actually get back to you as they all promised. It’s a total racket, like the whole medical situation in this country has been for decades. Damn.
I’m going to have to go to an HMO that has SOME kind of notion of basic decency, because both Anthem and Blue Shield are the lowest of the low for PPOs. Luckily I was able to regain sanity by binge watching the new Daredevil season on Netflix in order to calm me down from the hours on the phone with Blue Shield today.

The absolute WORST– my Geico Auto insurance policy does more for my health than this racket

This company is a bunch of crooks. I’ve been calling them for three months straight to cancel my account and refund money they’ve been charging me after my cancellation date because «there was an error with their computers…», or that department is closed, or call I’ll call you back when it’s handled. As if. Liars and thiefs. Don’t spend your money here!

I would not recommend Blue Shield! Horrible customer service and took over one year to send and process a medical bill.

Wow! What can I say that hasn’t already been said… this circus of a «company» (if you could call it that) is a complete joke. I have been a long time customer of theirs and always pay my bills on time, yet I have been left with no health insurance for the past three months because they claim they never received a payment even though my bank statement says otherwise.
I have been on and off the phone with them for the past few months and have always been met with incompetent representatives and supervisors that give me the same old apologies and empty promises of a quick resolution and call back. I have yet to receive one phone call back from them. Shoot, if their dumbest employee (which shouldn’t be hard to find) called me back and just mumbled some unintelligible words to me I would be thrilled that at least they called me back.
It is unforgivable and disgusting with how they treat their customers, especially when the fault lies directly with them. Now I am out a few hundred bucks and have no health insurance to show for it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS «COMPANY»!!! Do not get stuck with them! Absolute joke of a company!

The best doctors available in my area and never had a problem with coverage.

Blue Shield of California has been my insurance carrier since january 1 of 2014. I have never in my life (I’m 64) had to call my medical insurance carrier to pay bills that they owe. My credit score has plummeted 250 points because blue shield will not pay bills!!!
I hate this insurance company!!! I could not get a doctor for the first 16 months (come to find out blue shield was sued because they did not have enough doctors.) Now that I have been seeing the doc and going to the hospital blue shield will NOT PAY BILLS!
Blue Shield, you should be ashamed of yourself! I will never pay you another penny!

I didn’t want to believe my dentist when they said blue shield ppo was the worst dental plan you can have — but yep it is. The plan makes it look like they cover a significant portion — like 50% — but in actuality once I took into account the premiums I paid for the insurance — they covered maybe 5%. Better to just pay out of pocket. I learned this too late and am stuck for this year but I won’t make the same mistake again.

I would leave zero stars if it was an option. None of the departments communicate with each other. I was paying for coverage for 3 months but the benefits side of my plan was never set up. I couldn’t use my insurance. I called in for the 5^th time to check on my status only to find out they had terminated my plan without my knowledge. The worst service ever!

The absolute worst. I have nothing good to say about Blue Shield. Everything about them is horrible. Their executive leadership should be ashamed.

«This call may be recorded for quality assurance and training purposes. Hi, this is, um…, Louise from Blue Shield of California. Uh…, I’m…, um…, calling, uh…, to [MY NAME]…, uh, regarding about her…, uh, open file here at Blue Shield. Mmm, looks like, uh, Covered California, uh, can’t do anything about this, um…, effective date or we are trying to…, uh… move the termination date that it was never enforced, uh, but since they that cannot do anything about this so I advise the man advise [MY NAME] to file an appeal at
to make the plan never existed and tell… tell them to give herself, uh, or call, um, Covered California. Okay, here’s the reference number from the call from Covered California. It’s XXXX. And the rep… rep…re…sentative name is Aarrrggh. Okay, that’ll be all thank you. Bye bye again my name is Marine.»
Covered California says they don’t know what she was talking about — they have the correct start date!

Wow. B.S. continues to be just as horrible as ever. We are on an automatic payment withdrawal. And their system has just arbitrarily cancelled it in error twice (!) in 6 months.
The first time it wasn’t as big of a deal since we realized it (yes, WE had to realize their mistake) before using any service provider. This last time, we had 3 doctor visits before WE, again, realized THEIR incomprehensible mistake.
So BS apologized and said they would handle coverage of all those visits. Bahahahaha! Just kidding! You didn’t really believe that, right? Man, you are gullible. No, they’re actually saying we are responsible for their error and have to pay non insurance rates for those visits and appeal to get some of our money back using BS’s completely idiotic appeal process.
I cannot say enough terrible things about this company. We are switching in August, which cannot come soon enough.

I’ve been calling for 5 months to get a refund and until today they haven’t send me the money. They are a terrible company to deal with. I do not wish anyone the experience I’m having. Save your self from trouble and don’t sign with them.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS INSURANCE COMPANY!
1. Took nearly 5 months just to get my Subscriber ID so I could use for appointments
2. Over 6 failed attempts to tell them to add my apartment number to mailing address. They NEVER mailed me my insurance card.
3. Had to pay $ 1,800 out of pocket for emergency surgery I was promised would be covered. They backed out. I filed a claim and appealed and they denied it. Even the doctor wrote me a letter to prove he said he’d accept my insurance for the surgery, specifying the date, cost and type of surgery… and that wasn’t enough.
4. There are 2 types of policies: HMO and PPO. The difference is that HMO is offered immediate service on all types of issues, while PPO is more expensive and makes you wait 6 months before big, costly appointments. Guess what? That’s a lie! HMO DOES NOT give you immediate service because of REASON #1 — they stall to send you your subscriber ID for half a year. So if you need an emergency procedure like I did, you’re SOL.
Time to shop for something else. I’d rather get ass-​fisted by the Hulk than go through such a crappy service again.
If that isn’t enough to keep you away, then you’ve got really low standards. LOL

Blue Shield is worst insurance provider ever, insurance card says $ 15 than the pharmacy charges me $ 91. Which is 20 more than private pay? Nobody accepts them and they have too many tricks up sleeve.

I’ve been a Blueshield Member since 2010 and bought my policy directly through them. All was well until the healthcare reform rolled through, and now my ID number prefix (XEK) is being lumped in with Covered CA (Obamacare) plans, which means I Have had every single claim wrongly billed and handled, and now many doctors refuse to take my insurance, claiming «Oh, we don’t take Covered CA». My plan is NOT covered CA as I did not buy it through an exchange, AND pay about double per month what those lower cost plans are.
Having a PPO through Blueshield has become almost worthless and they refuse to issue me a new ID number. It’s the prefix causing all the mis-​billing and rejections from doctors, yet they have told me that «ALL individual plans» have this prefix, and are refusing to separate the covered CA plans from the Non by simply giving the rest of us a new prefix.
I’m already on their top plan, so I am unable to upgrade or otherwise change it, and am very unhappy with the useless card in my wallet right now. I am looking around to see what my options may or may not be with other companies.
Total fail, Blueshield. Total. Fail.

Horrible. First experience with a provider, hour ½ wait in a third world atmosphere and left.
Second experience, my coverage allows self referral to a specialist, at an increased copay. Verified it both with Blue Shield phone rep and online. Got to the doctor’s office and when they ran my insurance info, told me that I have to have a referral from my primary physician. Stayed in the office and called Blue Shield. The rep tells me that the reason it’s being denied is that the provider-​group is «currently being recertified» by Blue Shield, so my coverage details aren’t visible during the process. So essentially I drove 40 minutes through L.A. traffic for no reason, even though I made the appointment 2 ½ weeks prior and verified coverage 2 different ways, only to drive back another 40 minutes after being denied because their computer system cuts you off with no warning if your appointment falls during recertification time. Oh, the phone rep did apologize for the «inconvenience…»
Third experience, USC intern outfit on Grand downtown. Like the first experience, Ingles no bueno. Showed up 20 minutes prior to my appointment, as directed over the phone, and still sat there for an hour ½ before I walked.
Great job Blue Shield, I pay every month for insurance I’ve tried to use three times, and have yet to see a doctor. If this is an example of where American health care is headed, we’re all in deep you know what.

Wish I could give ZERO stars.
I live in Ventura, and there is only 2 facilities I can go to in a 50 miles radius.
It’s called Clinica’s. I called 35 doctors in my area, and not 1 of them took Blue Shield of California.
I was told they offer 20% less in reimbursement to facilities and doctors then all the other health insurances. No one will take them. I tried to call them to find out why they claimed certain drs on their site would take them but when I called they said «no, we don’t take them» I felt it was scammy, I felt they hook line and sinker, making you think you would have plenty of Dr. s in your area, when in reality not one of them would take their insurance. When I called, I was on hold for nearly an hour an half before giving up, tried again the next day four times, spent a half an hour on the phone each time. I finally got through on my 4^th day trying and about 2 hours on hold, only to get a rude rep that told me I was lucky to have insurance at all, and then plugged that ObamaCare is the reason the Dr. s won’t take my insurance. Ended up in a heated exchange with him, as he didn’t realize I knew my stuff. I asked him if having to drive 28 miles to the nearest Clinca’s was an acceptable form of insurance and he again said «Blame Obama». I ended up hanging up on him, and paying the premium each month, waiting for open enrollment. They will never get my business again, I will NEVER leave Blue Cross ever again. This company seriously needs to be called out on their horrible customer service practices with their scammy Website claiming Dr. s will take them, when in reality they wont. DON’T USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY AT ALL COST!

Horrible evil creature that work for this company. They should be shamed of themselves (but as long as you get that pay check right?). This company has fought me on EVERY SINGLE PRESCRIPTION IVE EVER NEED. Just know working for them you’re going to hell. Seriously.
