Boos Philly Cheesesteaks and Hoagies

I ordered delivery via Caviar (free delivery) & I’ve never actually been to the restaurant but my take out cheesesteak arrived a whole 30mins sooner than expected. My cheesesteaks & fries arrived HOT & were amazingly delicious:) I used to live in Delaware & frequented South Street in Philly a lot & Boo’s cheese steaks are very similar. Boo’s is now my Cali favorite.

As a true blue Philadelphian, Boos does a really great job of bringing the cheesesteak taste to the West Coast. Although they can’t replicate the bread found in the Northeast, everything else is preeeettttyyy pretty good.
Now. If they could get some better rolls (I understand they fly Amoroso’s bread in from Philly but it’s still not the same) and maybe that double boiled liquid American cheese (aka liquid crack, cheese meth or Philly Fondue) they’d have a serious hold on the Cheesesteak biz. I’d of course be willing to offer any kind of taste consultation during testing and/​or development of such cheese and sandwich.

This was a different lunch.
I’m a Philly fan all the way. This place was amazing. It’s a pretty solid lunch experience but can be a bit pricey. My cheesesteak came with beef, mushrooms, provolone and american cheese. The sandwich, fries and drink were a little over $ 14, but don’t let that stop you! I did see the lunch special that offered a sandwich, fries and a drink for under $ 10, I just chose the sandwich that wasn’t on special. The service was right on and kept us in view at all times while asking us if there was anything else they can do for us.
There is metered street parking in front if you want to try your luck but they also have a parking structure in the building and Boos will validate your ticket, so bring it if you park in the structure.

(I ordered through caviar and the service was great, very fast delivery but this review obviously isn’t for caviar… But caviar gets a solid 5 stars in terms of delivery time.)
I ordered 1 philly cheesesteak with cheeze whiz, 1 steak fries, 2 chips and 1 root beer. They all arrived pretty warm and fresh. The portion of the sub is satisfying, enough for 2 people. It came with a good amount of steak; they definitely dont skimp out on that as well as the whiz. They could’ve added a bit more grilled onions but that’s fine, it’s not an onion sub after all. It was delicious but it’s a bit too salty for me, i guess it’s my mistake that i put whiz instead of the classic provolone that everyone likes. It is a delicious cheesesteak nonetheless. (⁴⁄₅)
The steak fries weren’t anything special, it’s just fries with whiz and slices of deli steak on top. ($ 6.95 not worth it) Fries were very salty to me especially with the cheeze whiz on top. I had to add ketchup to balance out the saltiness. (2.5÷5)
I also felt like i was eating the same thing but just with a different texture. I’ve tried boo’s on silverlake before and i can remember that i had a great time and loved the food. Im not sure if the recipe changed but i know for a fact my fries werent as salty as they are now. Overall, I’d give boo’s in ktown 3.5÷5 stars and i would re order no doubt. I just hope the fries aren’t too salty the next time i order.

I’ve tried all of their steaming temptations, but my favorite is definitely the Cheesesteak Hoagie with provolone, lettuce and tomato. It’s a full foot of beefy satisfaction. I’ll often eat my hoagie at one of their spacious tables — under the watchful eye of their Benjamin Franklin mural. I then order fries to take to work as a snack later. On Sundays, there’s always a soccer match on the tube, or the sun streaming through the front window. The team behind the counter are all really nice, and they’ll walk your cheesesteak up to you with a smile.
Oh Boos, I love you.
Pro tips:
1. The sandwiches are HOT! Be a grownup, and let it cool. (Blowing on it looks kinda’ naughty.)
1. Use the paper and foil wrapper to keep your hands clean… kinda’ like a banana peel.
2. Don’t be shy about the napkins. You will NEED them. You will need all of them.
3. Eat your cheesesteak. Eat it, or it’ll get soggy! Save it for later, and you can enjoy… soup.

We are from Philadelphia so we have been dying to get a good cheesesteak in Los Angeles. We happened to find this place in Ktown who is owned by a former Philadelphian.

#Cheesesteaks here are legit. Large size and sliced very thinly. Get with mushrooms and onions. They also have peppers on the side for an extra kick.
#Special: come M-​F 4−7pm and it’s $ 1off cheesesteaks with a free fountain drink.
Parking: just street. Not sure if they validate or not
Overall this place will definitely scratch your itch for a good cheesesteaks. Generous portions, moist and great value. Mom and pop owned with good service. Would definitely continue to come back here!

Stopped by for a late lunch/​early dinner on a Sunday. My friend and I split a Sweet Pepper Cheesesteak and an Italian Hoagie. Take me to church, both were delicious, and I’ve been craving them all week. I heard that they get their breads and meats shipped from Philly, and my friend who’s from Philly, says that they taste just like the cheesesteaks back home.

I liked the cheesesteak. It was flavorful. It was good but it was not the best. Don’t think I’ll come back again but worth a try. Fast food lifeeeee

THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM WAS HORRENDOUS!
We recently received extremely poor customer service when I attempted to communicate a simple problem that occurred with our order. During my attempt to describe the problem to the management, I was interrupted and I did not get to finish describing the issue before the staff member responded in a belligerent manner. I was simply astonished! — Everyone is entitled to a bad day but this, to me, was atrocious, ‘un-​called-​for,’ completely unprofessional, and unacceptable!

Who knew k-​town would have a dope philly spot. Don’t know if I would have ever seen it driving by, but glad I saw other reviews
Got home and opened it up… I could already taste it. They use cheesewiZ, sign of the real cheesesteak. i took a bite and yumm. The bread was so soft. The wiz was mixed with the steak and not just dumped on top. Good portion of meat. Some places skimp some on the steak. Not here.
Fries were pretty good as well.
Staff was friendly, wasn’t too busy.
Parking: if you find a parking spot of Wilshire park there or park in the garage. It’s $ 2 w/​validation.
They will definitely see me again!

Ohhh, see… this place is AMAZE-​balls!!!
At the recommendation of my bestie (like Unilocal,she’s yet to steer me wrong) and/​or not desiring to make it home from the office only to forage back out in search of sustenance, I Unilocaled Boo’s.
Let’s just say that despite their name — there is NOTHING «frightening» about this place.
Ordered online and my cantankerous, growling stomach indecisively led me to partake in the «Boo’s Cheesesteak» ($ 8.95). Sadly however, I was so darned hungry that I ordered the «Italian Hoagie» ($ 8.95) as well — unaware of just what to expect.
For those looking to do the same, ordering online is a bit tricky. While enabled to use your Facebook or Google accounts to «login», customers are required to purchase at $ 20.00 — minimum and while tax is included within the price, the cost of delivery isn’t.
As it appeared, my order was only $ 18.00 or so and while delivery is another $ 5.00, because it wasn’t inclusive to the cost of food, I was required to order something else to increase the order to above $ 20.00. I chose fries and all in all with that added cost in addition to delivery, I made out spending around $ 26 – 27.00.
I received an e-​mail thereafter alleging my food would be arriving within 45 minutes and hungrily I sat there waiting.

Definite star for customer service as at the time of anticipated delivery I received a phone call only to be informed that my order was delayed due to traffic from the rain. I was famished and had already paid so I suppose continuing to wait didn’t qualify as much of an option.

The taste and quality is good but I hate places that nickel and dime you. The basic steak sandwich comes with nothing but onions. If you add anything to it (mushrooms, peppers, tomato, etc.) it’s a dollar per item??? Most cheesesteak places I’ve been to give you the option to add these things at no charge or a small charge for as many additions as you want. I asked for a cup of water to go and was told they would have to charge me for that. WTF?!? it’s a cup of water!
I also wish they had a smaller sandwich option. Or maybe a half sandwich with fry combo.

Got the Boo’s cheesesteak for delivery from the Caviar app which delivers to your door and got to say that I was excited from reading everyone’s reviews about how good it was but not sure if I have to go in store to try it myself hot and ready or what… I did not find it to be as amazing as some said it to be.
Wouldn’t really try having it again as it was just average cheesesteak to me as I’ve had in subways and a million other places. Sad that I still haven’t found one to blow my mind away. not a lot of cheese either in my sandwich. that’s a big NoNo because I’m like a rat. I LOVE CHEESE!

Good to FINALLY find a REALLY good cheesesteak place.
I do not know why all the good spots are in Koreatown. So when I make the trek from the west side, it becomes a tough choice. But now, I discovered Boos.
This was a real gem. I had a mushroom streak and provolone ($ 9.95) — yes, know, not traditional. BUT… it was better than I expected. The sandwich was loaded with meat. It was moist and flavorful, not too salty. Reminded me of the ones I used to get back east.
Also had a pepper steak ($ 9.95). I liked them more than «the kid» did, as they were pickled peppers. But I thought that it really added some contrast to the richness of the sandwich.
There were bins of red and green jalapeños and sport peppers that you could add to your sandwich or have as a tasty side dish.
Pizza fries ($ 3.75) were interesting and pretty good, but I think I will opt for plain fries next time or maybe steak fries The fries themselves were crispy and perfectly done.
Nice selection of hoagies and a tempting butterscotch cupcake.
Oh, and WISE potatoes chips are a plus!
Definitely adding this place to my regular Koreatown rotation.

It’s hard to make a philly cheesesteak when not in philly. I don’t know what it is, but few places can get it right — lacking in the roll, or whiz, or something. Boo’s however, makes a mean cheesesteak.
Came here with my friend (who also loves cheesesteaks) and we both got the mushroom steak. What a sandwich! Roll was soft, just like in philly. They make the sandwiches to order, which means you might wait a little bit, but your sandwich will come out hot, with oozing cheese, and perfectly tender meat.
You’ve gotta order with cheese whiz, and onions if that’s your thing. The sandwiches are pretty sizeable, so either split with a buddy or prepare to be very full. Cheese fries are also a must, with melted oozy cheese on perfectly fried fries. Sandwiches are around $ 10 each.

I love Philly Cheesesteaks. That said, I’ve tried many in and around LA, and I can say that where others miss the mark, Boo’s fires on all cylinders! My group of Foodies got to sample the Mushroom cheesesteak, Italian hoagie, and a couple ‘off menu’ items, a spicy chicken cheesesteak called the Logan, and cheesesteak fries called the Papas Locas.
After your first bite, you can tell that these guys put their heart and soul into making these cheesesteaks. You can also customize anything! Just ask!
Boo’s has 2 locations, Silver Lake and K-​Town. And, the K-​Town location is open til midnight on Friday and Saturdays.
I’m already craving my next cheesesteak!

I’m not much into American food to be sure.
A coworker invited me to Boo’s — which has a stupid name by the way — along with other coworkers but I was unable to go because I went to visit my mom that night instead.
Based on his recommendation and the fact it is in my part of town I decided to go with my BF. I ordered a cheesesteak and he ordered a hoagie. I liked my cheesesteak but it was not a great meal by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe the fact they play hip hop and rap made my experience less than five stars.
My BF liked his hoagie but it just wasn’t like the ones he used to get in Elementary school. Kind of weird, I know. I mean, school food just isn’t good — right? Well, sometimes nostalgia can really overpower your senses I guess.
They claim they use meat from Philly which may be part of the reason they are so popular.
Parking is an issue here always! You can valet park in the lot underneath Boo’s — which I repeat is a stupid name — for two dollars and the validation is good for two hours.
What can I do without here?
The rotten music and the stupid name! Maybe they can rename their place Honey Boo Boo’s lol! At least that would be funny!

This is an awesome place to get your cheesesteak fix! Seriously, their mushroom cheesesteak half and half (half cheese whiz and half provolone) was divine. I really enjoyed every bite of my cheesesteak. They have a hot sauce that you have to request for that works well with the cheesesteak.
With a purchase of a sandwich, you can get your parking ticket validated here if you parked under the building.
Great service and food makes this place a winner, oh and it’s very clean inside, a rarity in Koreatown.

After dinner mind you, a friend was in the mood for a little something more… Little did I know that she had planned it perfectly so that we would wind up here. For a post-​dinner Philly cheesesteak! To be fair we did have a light dinner.
Anyhow, we split a BOO’S CHEESESTEAK. That’s just the thinly sliced steak with grilled onions topped with your choice of one of three cheeses on a traditional Amoroso roll. We kept it super-​traditional with the Cheez Whiz. When was the last time I had that?! I expected the steak to be kind of dry, but was pleasantly surprised. The gooey Cheez Whiz was kind of amazing after all these years. But the roll totally made this. Slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Wow!

INTRO:
I’ve been to both locations here in the LA area. My first experience at Boo’s (in Silver Lake) wasn’t much to write about. The cheesesteak was rather bland and just lacked overall substance. But it was still tasty nonetheless, I guess I just expected more from an ‘Authentic Philly Cheesesteak’ establishment.
THE EXPERIENCE:
Crusin’ around with my roommate we stumbled upon Boo’s on Wilshire and decided to give it a go. Way different set up than the other location. Graffiti murals inside and the kitchen visible from the dining area so you can actually see your food being prepped.
The Homie went with the classic Philly Cheesesteak, I went with the Italian Sub and steak fries. This meal was exceptionally different in taste than the initial location I tried. I was highly impressed with the overall taste and quality of ingredients, sooooooooo fresh. I even snuck a bite of the Homies Philly and it was ON POINT! Both breads for our sandwiches were exceptionally soft and delicious, the bread really made the sandwich.
STAFF:
I normally don’t shout out the staff but the attendants that were on deck that night were extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. I had several questions about the authenticity of the place and how much of the inventory came from Philadelphia. Surprisingly, the young lady who took my order answered every one of my annoying questions with a smile.
PARKING:
Located directly on Wilshire so parking can be a nightmare. There is no designated parking structure for Boo’s so street parking is all you’re left with.
But shhhhhhhhhh, after 7pm Loading Zone parking is available for use, free of charge. I swear!
OVERALL:
I liked my experience at this location A LOT. Staff was cool, they played great music and food was exceptional.
I will definitely be back to try more!
