History

Established in 2007.

The history of the business is really just my history. Most of it is in my bio, but I’ll elaborate a bit. My first teaching gig was to coach the USC Ballroom and Latin Dance team, which is where I started dancing in the first place.

I began teaching the class and the private lessons I was getting much in the same way that I had been taught. This was working just fine, but I felt that I could get more out of my students if I refined my teaching methods. There was also the issue of having a massive school debt for a degree I wasn’t using.

Out came the old school notes, text books and lesson plans. I took a much more scholastic approach to my teaching. I started keeping close records on all of my students and classes and writing lesson plans for every lesson I teach. Suddenly, I began to see faster results from my students and I had more direction and clarity when teaching.

When I retire from competing, the plan is to continue teaching and open an academy for dance teachers.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

I had never danced a step before I took my first group class in college. Quite frankly, I struggled. However, I was fortunate enough to have caring teachers who understood the learning process, and slowly but surely, I got better.

After undergrad, I moved on to graduate school to get my masters in education; all the while continuing with my favorite hobby. I competed as an amateur for 5 years; becoming a US finalist in the 9 dance category. It was during my time at USC that I decided to become a professional competitor and instructor.

In 2007, I won the US Pro/Am national championship in American Smooth. A few months later, I began to work as a professional instructor.

As I continue to further my own dancing, I have applied what I learned in grad school to develop a pedagogically sound approach to teaching dance. I am currently training to compete in the US Professional Championships and am heavily involved in collegiate dancesport.
