Really love their pizzas, especially the Pepatp Piato. The line does get a bit long especially during peak hours and sometimes the pizza making process doesn’t seem to be the most efficient. But overall a good place to drop by and I would recommend getting their monte bianco as dessert if you still have room for a few extra calories(although a few extra calories would probably be understating the amount of sugar it contains)

Café 1919 is okay. It has the hype of being the best restaurant at UCLA which I believe is not true. The food was fine and service was okay but the pizza and sandwiches were pretty meh. Also this café is one of the farthest away from campus so it is quite a hike to get there especially from my dorm.

This was MYSPOT on the hill. There was many a night when I just wanted to treat myself(really, it eventually became more of a usual thing, during all hours) to a perfect personal-sized tre pomodori pizza, a nice caprese salad, perhaps a warm, melting panani, or maybe my just a nice helping of gelato or the infamous monte bianco(is that around still?!) Also one swipe gets you three caprese salads(I’ve tried, numerous times) Oh and each caprese salad comes with 5 mozzarella balls, without fail(don’t ask for the«salad with extra mozzarella»…) Also if you’re living life like you’ve got 19P, get some apricot almond cookies. Heck, put them on your gelato. You’ll burn those calories walking back to Hedrick(ammiriteeee?) Sproul residents, good luck.

UCLA undergrad, c/o 2014 over here. =) Café 1919 was a true asset to living in the dorms. Paninis were on the oily side, but still great. Pizza was awesome, esp when I didn’t feel like eating the healthier Bcaf option. Gelato made an awesome great dessert(as well as the monte carlo — brownie and ice cream *__*) But I mainly miss Café 1919 for the pizza bagel and pesto cream cheese. Totally overpriced for one swipe, so I just use easypay. Get it, it’s amazing. And someone please tell me where I can find pesto cream cheese, because I want to relive those undergrad memories. :(

The line is usually pretty long and the service is pretty slow. They heat to order so that’s probably why, but it’s definitely not the best place to go in a rush. «to-go» more like«to wait for hours». But the food is good and extremely filling.

Just had to wait 20 minutes for a meatball sub that usually takes 5. its not even that good. They said«oh it must have just not gone through or got lost». They didn’t even make it until I pointed it out to them. TERRIBLESERVICE.

1919 is probably the most popping dining option on the hill. Like Rande and B Caf it is not a dining hall, but instead has a menu which you can spend your swipes on. Pininis, Pizzas, Salads, Gelato, and more are the main staples of 1919. The line almost always wraps around the building because people want the pizzas, and at night the rush for brownie sundes can get real. While I think that the sandwiches are really dry with unfortunate bread, the individual pizzas fare up a bit better.1919 shines through for its late night huge gelato cups. Yeah it is unfortunate that you use a whole mean swipe for a cup of icecream, but they do give you an ampal serving, and it’s actually quite good.

They have THEBESTPINZINI’s I’ve ever had! And the cherry tomato with mozzarella are exquisite. I get the two every time, sometimes 3 times a week! Must try when in UCLA

Great selection for students running off to or from class. Good for people without enough time to fine in at cafeteria. Peppato piato is the best pizza to order. This place is popular enough to have extended hours. It should close later for more convenience

Came back recently to visit my alma mater and one of the best things happened. CAFE1919WASOPENFORSUMMER! Fortunately my friend had summer swipes and he got me a big-ass cup of gelato. Perfect to beat the summer heat, and seriously… it was a BIG-ASS cup of gelato. Highly recommend the strawberry and cream, as well as the chocolate café option. No swipes? No problem. They take all major cards as well, but since it’s the Bruin family, asking someone to swipe you in never hurts. I’m so thankful that even after all these years since its inauguration, Café 1919 continues to blow me away with how amazing and delicious dining hall food can be on campus. Stay strong 1919. Long live your delicious paninis and desserts, and may you share your love with the incoming class of 2017. R.I.P. Puzzles. You’ll always be with us.

I’m normally not that picky about my food but Café 1919 is a little too much. Out of my entire time living in the dorms, I’ve only eaten meals there twice. Once was during my first year and I despised it, second time was during my second year because I wanted to see why everyone likes it so much and maybe I was just missing something. I still didn’t like it very much… Their gelato is also too sweet and leaves a gross aftertaste. Bleh. Props for having so many flavors though, but no. I’m well aware that Café 1919 is far from the ideals of health food, but if I’m looking for something heavy to satiate my cravings, I want something that will taste good as well. The paninis are really flavorful, but in the wrong way. They just all taste off and really weird. The pizzas are just a-ok. For the amount of grease they have, they should honestly taste a lot better. As for that one apple pie dessert thing, it’s not bad! Same with the tiramisu, but I don’t know if I’d really want to eat one item for dessert for one swipe and for 900 calories. No thanks! The tiramisu’s the reason why I’m giving 1919 two stars and not one. If I still lived in the dorms, I’d just go to Rendezvous or Late Night if I wanted an indulgence.

Love the variety of food on UCLA, such as 1919’s Italian. Their paninis are definitely a must try, along with gelato. However, I find their pizza to be way too oily, and I always see other students wiping the oil off with napkins. The upside is that service here is definitely one of the fastest on the hill. And guess what? They also offer macaroons now!(only after 9PM for some reason).

I’ll have to come give an updated review in the future when I revisit the actual café(since it’s been a while), but I love the food there. I recently had the shrimp caesar salad(who would’ve thought shrimp + caesar salad = awesome combo), the tomato/cheese salad(MMMMMMMM), and the Florentino panini. All were amazingly good and at a very affordable price(I mean it is on a college campus). I’m bummed that Café 1919 opened up after I graduated but luckily have many friends still in school who have given me the opportunity to get a little taste of this amazingly good café.

It’s near the end of the quarter and my friend had 30 swipes left, so we did what any health-conscious college student should do – we ordered every pizza on the menu. From our non-scientific study, we determined that the unhealthiness of these pizzas correlates positively with deliciousness. So without looking at any nutrition facts, it’s plain obvious that the Genova, which is smothered in pesto chicken and alfredo, is the best of the bunch. I hope you’re a fan of oil and cheese though, because this pizza packs it on. On the other side of the coin, the Tre Pomodori, the healthiest option, is terrible. It’s not that I hate veggies — the tomato overload(three variants) just makes the rest of the pizza unenjoyable. The vegan option, which uses soy cheese, is even worse. This is the only thing I wouldn’t order again. Café 1919 isn’t that impressive once you step foot outside of campus, but this is a great place to unload some swipes. I’ll be stocking up on more pizzas to get me through finals.

Café 1919 opened after I moved out of the dorms, and I had to get swiped in for the past few years to enjoy the goodness of this little Italian café haha I have an affinity to paninis, but I think I’ve only tried the Florentino(chicken + pesto sauce + tomatoes). I always get it with the tomato/cheese salad. So good! The gelato is also very yummy as well as the tiramisu: D However, the food is usually a little greasy, but I guess that’s what makes it so good! haha It’s still not as greasy at Puzzles used to be. Now THAT was gross(if you managed to eat it all lol)

The first time I tried this place. heaven i love the panini’s and pizza’s, but like all other ones they’re a bit greasy, which is why only get it once in a while, but when I do I definitely indulge

Out of all the quick-service restaurants on campus, this is my favorite. So what do I go here for? The gelato and tiramisu? Cookies and cream is the only good gelato flavor there, in my opinion. The tiramisu has no rum. Meh. The paninis? Only good when they are freshly wrapped. Otherwise, oil sponge, much? The pizzettes? Greasy, but surprisingly the calorie content is lower than that of the paninis.(which says a lot). If you’re going to get a panini, get the Florentino. A pizzette? The pepato piatto.(Dump the salad on top of it like it says. It surprisingly tastes good.) Now that that’s out of the way, let me get to my real point. Good coffee. Before UCLA, I never consumed coffee. I never had a need to drug my body into action at 7:30AM in the morning to get to class. Café 1919’s coffee is just what I need to jumpstart the system. Unlike BruinCafe’s watery monstrosity, 1919 packs real coffee flavor into a cup. Every other morning, I get the hazelnut iced coffee with a bagel(choice of plain or pizza). There’s also a choice of cream cheese(pesto, sundried tomato, spicy asiago, plain) to go with your bagel. Get the pesto; you won’t regret it.

Nice place to have lunch! Good to find this place to have Italian food on campus. The food is simple and clean. It’s really nice to have a Tacchino Panini on a sunny Monday morning. Good to talk someone that is interesting and fun. Their pizza is good too. Might try next time. I like here~

I am so proud to go to this school, they seriously spoil us. Located right across Hilltop, this place specializes in Italian pizzas, paninis, and gelato. Pizzas– Got the artichoke and cheese one. Has grilled onions on top and is the only vegetarian thing I like. Paninis– The florentino is like chicken alfredo in a sandwich with spinach. It’s a winner. Salads– Each order comes with a side salad and you can choose between a regular salad or the caprese. The caprese is mozzarella balls, tomatoes, doused with olive oil. I liked it a lot. Gelato– THISISWHEREMYLIFECHANGED. I know good gelato, and this place has it. Coconut and pistachio are the flavors I tried since … I like coconuts and pistachios. If you don’t like coconuts or pistachios then I have no other flavors to recommend since I don’t intend on ordering any other flavors even though I’m sure they’re just as good. You can ask for two flavors when ordering gelato. They’ll fill the cup with half of one and half with another which is great if you want to try different flavors. My only gripe is how slow the service can be since there’s only one guy serving the gelato most the time. Seating is plentiful, but my friends noticed that the fancy bags they package the food in is a waste of paper. Don’t forget to recycle them. =D
