Caña Rum Bar

It’s cool, nothing special. It’s a great place to lounge and hang out and smoke your cigars but I can imagine that this would not be an ideal spot on a cold night as the roof is uncovered.
The bartenders are great and the drinks that we ordered were well-​made without being over-​the-​top.
I don’t see the whole point with the membership thing but it’s cool to know that I can bring friends back there for the rest of the year without having to worry about the cover charge. Perhaps they did it to create some level of exclusivity which hopefully means that the place will never be too crowded.

Cool rum bar near LA live. But I think you have to a reservation or be a member to go inside. I was going under a reservation.
The drinks were good.
And so was the music. A good mix of Latin and reggae.
I liked the outside/​covered space. I just wish that there was a more defined area for smokers.

Not a whole lotta seating in this place but the drinks are soooo good! Bartenders are super friendly and I like how dark it is inside. It’s strictly a bar so no food or appetizers are served. Be sure to eat beforehand! They don’t have their own parking area, therefore you have to park across the street and walk. It has an open glass roof so smoking is allowed. Great place and I’ll definitely be returning.

Great happy hour specials. Bartender makes every drink with bit of magic. The piña colada is yummy.
The outside patio area is really cool with a fire place. The inside décor is cantina inspired & has a romantic flair.
Note: you DO NOT need a membership during happy hour.

Fantastic spot, membership was 20 bucks but you can bring up to 2 friends in with you for free, crowd was just big enough to where the environment was social but there was still space for you to find a table to rest your drinks on. Great drinks, recommend the Cuba Libre for anyone who enjoys mexican coca cola. I’ll be sure to return for the free rum tastings on Tuesday night!

Chill Latino Vibe! Reminds me soo much of a lounge in Miami! Loved the salsa and the reggaeton!

I absolutely love this place and happy to have found such a hidden gem.
Never had a bad night here. No attitude and very friendly atmosphere.
They recently changed the rule of only bringing 3 friends on your membership as of 7… No email to update this or reasoning other than that «policy changed» that being said it’s worth it.

Cute, intimate venue. I think your opinion will vary depending on what you’re looking for.
For drinks with friends or a date: It’s a great bar and the bartenders are dressed in cliché Havana shirts and hats making it a nice experience. There’s a variety of Latin music, edm, spanish pop?, a couple of hip hop songs, & I couldn’t make out some of the other genres played.
For Salsa dancing (which was my sole reason for going): It didn’t meet my expectations at all. Maybe a solid 10 minutes of Salsa played every 40 minutes or so. There was only one bachata song. I asked the DJ if he could play more salsa, he didn’t. Later a friend of mine asked if he could play Punta, he didn’t.
The place has great potential to be a hotspot if it had a better DJ who maximized on the Latin flare this place has. If the name is Cuban, the employees are dressed Cuban, the venue itself looks like a Cuban home, you’d think the music would be of Cuban taste i.e. salsa, bachata, conga, & rumba.

I joined Caña Rum Bar this past Friday. They were so nice and clean. I love the Latin vibes. I’ve been wanting to go to a place like this forever. I had a coconut and rum, it was okay I’m not a rum fan so it wasn’t for me but it looks cool. It’s small in size. I will be going back sometime, since I’m a member now :)

Honestly I had very low expectations of this place. Every time I would look at it I thought it would be a trashy bar with dirty floors and poor service but it was a delightful surprise to walk into such a pleasing experience!
The setting is quaint and the lights are dim. The DJ is standing in a corner selecting really good tunes, the bartenders were friendly and professional (unlike so many jerks at other bars) and they kept the mood of the place dancing and having fun, best of all, the place was clean!
The patio has a chimney that keeps you warm and the table/​chair settings were honestly aesthetically pleasing. You feel like you are in a smooth tropical party only a few were privileged to receive an invite for.

Went for the first time. The pictures on their website are misleading. The manager removed most of the seating and left four small high tables with two bar stools each for seating. The bar itself has no stools as well. The small outdoor patio is not very inviting, open air (cold at night) and it is where the smokers hang out. The sofas were replaced with a pay for pool table. The manager said he wanted more room for the live bands hence minimal seating. If you want to stand most of the night, this is your place. Due to its small size, I would anticipate during the live music, you will not be able to carry on a conversation.
The rum drink menu is very limited and not multi-​page as shown on the website. Drinks average $ 12 which is typical pricing for tiki drinks. The drinks I tried were well crafted the bartender /​manager is very knowledgeable about rums. It was fun to chat with him about how rums are manufactured.
Cana would be a good place to visit for a drink before or after going to dinner, LA Live or Staples.

Seriously a great place to chill, dance or smoke a cigar, if that’s your style. Great music and great drinks! Will be coming back soon!

I have been a member at Caña since December 2010. This place has been an impromptu meet up spot to entertain friends and a go-​to date spot for years. It’s done me well in quite a few scenarios over the years. It is with great disappointment that I say that this place has gone to shit. I’ve seen the book length drink menu dwindle down to a flyer. The quality tiki cups have been replaced with plastic blue solo cups (and they got rid of the best drink, 28 days later). The cigar selection has gone from a wide range of brands to one widely unknown local brand. I went from introducing my friends to a bit of paradise in dtla to offering just another dive bar in the fold.
The music has gone from eclectic island vibes to purely Latin focused. The crowd used to be a good mix of people, now it’s like I am an outsider visiting some bar in East LA. The looks I get from people can be summed up by a latin guy coming up to me and attempting to befriend me by saying «What’s up bro? I’ve never been racist.» I know you’re not responsible for what people say but this is an example of the atmosphere. Needless to say my comfort level in this place is pretty much non-​existant.
Today was the biggest transgression of all. I have one of my business partners come out from OC and I decide to take him to Caña only to have the receptionist tell me that my membership has expired. I visit this place quite a bit even if it’s just for a drink, I know for a fact that I renewed my membership because I’ve done it in November for the last 6 years. I’ve been there for drinks at least 4 times this year. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I renewed my membership on the spot to escape further embarrassment but I went in and was reminded of how cool this place used to be. It seems like every time I visit there’s another staple that’s missing. I always think ‘This place is falling apart. How long is this going to last?’ It’s one thing to make changes but try to make them for the better. The changes you guys are making are just delaying an inevitable outcome. Caña is done. I’ll never go to Caña again. I’m looking forward to the day the owners finally pull the plug and make some real changes. Thanks for the good times but no thanks for the half-​assed representation of a classic.

This is probably the coolest hidden gem we found in downtown la after moving to downtown a month a go.
It’s technically on flower street but find the neon sign and you will find the entrance tucked in a garage lot.
Once you get inside you’ve been transported to what it feels like to visit Cuba.
The mixologist make amazing drinks from their special drink menu. I’d suggest getting the Brazilian necktie. Yum !
Music is great and they also have a mini patio where you can mingle away from the dance scene, order a cigar w your boys and enjoy!
Come and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Stopped in here for a quick drink before going to Broken Spanish for dinner. You feel like you are entering a secret spot due to having to walk through a parking garage to enter into the dark lit bar. Of course it is not secret at all because they have an enormous neon sign outside of the garage. This feels like Miami (since I have never been to Cuba) without the club vibe or pretense.
I have never been a rum person but this place made me want to order many of them. I tried the dark and stormy and this was very different from the ones I have had in the past. No ginger beer just fresh ginger, rum, sugar and lime, making it refreshing with a kick. The rest of the group tried the much reviewed Brazilian necktie and it was enjoyed by all. Lime, cucumber, chile infused rum, salt and pepper mixed together for a lightly spiced, tropical result. Everything you like in a tropical drink with no syrupy cloying sweetness. This is a dark space that boasts a cigar and food menu too. The bartender is clearly an expert in carefully mixing delicious cocktails. If in the area check it out!

Cuban/​Salsa vibe bar. Maybe I just don’t have the moves like Jagger… Slightly older crowd too but it’s cool. $ 20 annual (cash only) membership fee, but you can bring 7 peeps with you each time.

Caña is really the perfect place. Chill without being too casual, very hip without being pretentious. I walked in and the interior decorations made me feel like I was transported to Cuba, or at least Miami. I was happy to see beautiful girls dancing to live Samba music; this isn’t the type of place to lean back against the bar and act as though you’re too cool to dance.
The drinks were incredible. I had a delicious Dark and Stormy, which was excellently crafted by Eric. I also tasted the Old Fashioned and Piña Colada that he prepared for my friends and both those drinks were exquisite as well.
The parking situation is what you’d expect for downtown LA. We found parking two blocks away, next to Staples Center, at a meter that stopped charging after 8 pm :)

I came back because my brother wanted his birthday here, I ordered a drink and said I wanted to close out my tab, they gave me the receipt and didn’t give my card back and I forgot about it for a minute because I ran into a friend. I went back to ask for it and the bartender was like oh. Yeah… And handed back my card. Sketchy. Then 2 girls asked to sit in our booth and proceeded to start an argument when one of the girls in our party asked if we were getting in n out later (while looking in her direction which was next to my sister in law). Ooook. At least the drinks were still good.

THE LAST STOP!
A friend has brought me to the Cana Rum Bar on several occasions. Sort of odd location, it’s not street side by any means, instead it is tucked away in the back of a parking lot. Particularly one whose interior screams upscale, not dive bar. Dim lighting inside this dark interior from the lamps on the bar, laminating the framed pictures on the walls, as well as on their outside, in the back.
Friend got me here because, I don’t always drink liquor, but when I do, it’s rum. I like that each visit has been pretty chill, not a lot of people, always a place to sit outside on a cushy couch by the fire, or in bar height chairs along the wall bar.
Although it’s an order and pick up at the bar, kind of a joint, our Mixologists have always been friendly and helpful. I tell them what I like and how I like it, and they mix it up well.
JUST A SIP:
The Rum Bar is typically a last stop of the evening. It’s a chill spot to seat and unwind while sipping on a tasty beverage. Chill ambiance, I hear it does get crowded, I can’t speak on that, we’ve always gone when there were only a few sippers and puffers. Love sitting in front of the outdoor fireplace, as well as the warm coziness of the indoors.
Parking??? I guess metered street, for sure. Friend knows all the bouncers and they let us park in the garage.
The only downside to this bar is… nothing compliments a good sipping drink like a good cigar. I don’t smoke cigars, and even though I spent… many years with a cigar smoker, I’m still not a fan. Although smoking is restricted to outside, would be nice to have either some ventilation, or perhaps a smoke-​free partition.

Hidden gem! Small cool spot with amazing bartenders that make amazing drinks. Music is on point. It’s like taking you to a different part of the world. Must try if your in the LA area. Not pretentious and the dress code is relaxed.

Came here for a dear friend’s bday and while the atmosphere is fun and it feels like you could be part of «dirty dancing havana nights» in cuba there is NO AC! As much as I liked this place, there are some serious environmental issues here. There’s a heat wave that’s causing blackouts in LA but Cana decides the fireplace needs to be fired up on blast and the places should be lit up by flames. Friend got bottle service so we had the «outdoor» patio area by the fireplace to ourselves. It was a small area and the rum was smooth AF but it was so hot I couldn’t really think.
The only thing to alleviate the heat was to get drinks and they had really great craft cocktails and cool coconut dranks (rum with coconut water). I had the mojito which was delightful and hubs had some other cocktail that was really good as well. Prices are slightly more on par with Edison or Honeycut at around $ 12 – 16 for each drink. No idea about parking since I ubered. Though this is a «private» club it’s super easy and cheap to get a membership and an annual membership costs less than one night’s cover, think it’s def worth it and I’d love to come back when it’s cooler.

I really can’t say enough great things about this place! I was stressing out looking for a new spot to bring my boyfriend & a large group of our friends to celebrate his birthday. I knew it would be a perfect idea to have the men smoke their cigars & the women enjoy the perfectly crafted cocktails!
We came on a Sunday evening (slower and not too crowded, perfect if you have a big group with you) & were able to reserve out the open terrace. It was perfect! They don’t give you headaches about entrance (you never feel like your in Hollywood). Everyone was able to walk in easily with no problems. The fireplace area was amazing for pictures with our photographer. Our mixologist was a pro & gave us the best customer service.
There were about 20 of us and we all enjoyed the heck out of it. Special thank you to Jessica who was so helpful with my plans for the evening. Staff is amazing here. This is a business that knows what they’re doing.

That fancy members-​only type place without the steep price tag of a members-​only type place.
Came here on a few occasions. Every time I’ve come it seems to be pretty empty inside. That hasn’t stopped the drinks from being absolutely amazing. Handcrafted with the right amount of TLC, the drinks will blow you away, while you look at your friends with the Hot Shot look in your eye.
The staff is very friendly and can easily help make the perfect drink for you. I really loved the vibe to this place and the outdoor patio outside in the back.
Will definitely be back on a busier night for the crowd!

It’s so much fun on Saturday nights! Went with my sister who was in from out of town.
PLEASE BE AWARE
1) there is a membership fee of $ 20. The membership is for a full year and in addition you can bring 7 people with you. But YOU have to be present. (This information would have been useful prior to heading out. Caña you really should put this information on any website we may find you on)
2) just like any other bar or club place you go to, DRINKS ARE PRICEY. So be prepared to empty out your wallet.
3) It seems like there is some type of dress code.
Men: dress shoes, slacks, button down shirt/​dress shirt, etc. Women: not 100% sure there was a variety of everything. Except no sweatpants or sneakers etc. I mean use common sense.
4) they will offer you a paper menu of certain drinks and I believe were cigars. KNOW that you don’t have to order just from that menu. Just tell the bartender what you would like and they will accommodate.
PARKING: Good luck. We were lucky to find a spot right in front of the entrance. For those that aren’t so lucky there are parking garages close by. Obviously for a fee and also ask what time they close.
Overall had an amazing time. Definitely going to be putting my $ 20 membership to good use.

Drinks were delicious!!! Love the private feeling that this bar is hidden in a structure parking lot. Gives you the VIP feel.
Minus 1 star because the lighting inside is way too dark. It was hard to take a picture with really bad lighting.

I’m not a member, but I got to swing by for a friend’s birthday. This was a cool little spot that felt very much like a bar in Havana. The rum selection was excellent, the beer selection was paltry and it was very muggy inside (no ventilation and a greenhouse smoke room in the back). We kept asking them to turn the fans on, but they ignored us. Either way the drinks were novel. They have this great one that basically rum and coconut water. It’s watery and weird but it’s served in a big coconut. I’d go back on a special occasion.

This is a pretty cool hidden little place.
I like coming to hear the DJ’s and get my drink on.
Seating is limited inside and out so get there early if you want a table.
I would also go dressed as naked as possible, there is no AC up in this motha fucka!

I went with a couple of friends about 5 girls.
We walked about a mile to get here, no one wanted to get a cab or Über. We finally arrived to Caña Rum Bar.
It’s a small place the music is very energetic. It reminds you of Cuba!
I thought the drinks were a little pricey but then again it’s LA.
I tried a Mojito it was decent.
I’m used to the Mojitos from Sevillas in LBC.
I highly recommend to go with a group of friend it’s just more fun like that.

Stumbled (literally) in here one drunken night thinking it was a strip club — the entrance is at the end of a nondescript parking lot and there’s a greeter at the front on a computer.

Its actually a member’s only rum bar! Say what?! The cool dude in front of us let us in through his membership.
Inside was this small, dark bar playing salsa music. My friends order a round of drinks and the next thing I know… I’m drinking rum straight out of a coconut! The drink was pure rum and coconut water; they also give you a spoon to scoop the pulp out and eat it. Heaven.
Hands Down The Best Drinks in Town
Everything is made fresh behind the bar besides the alcohol itself. Ginger, coconut water, lemon and lime juice… everything that touches your drink.
I haven’t had a drink that wasn’t absolutely perfect. The bartenders work hard at their craft and it shows.
Try these (but you can’t go wrong with anything you choose):

Was in LA for the weekend and got to go to la Cana with some friends on Saturday night. It was a pretty swanky place. I know you have to have some sort of membership (free I believe) my my friends had an in so it wasn’t a problem. Place is pretty small on the inside and has an outdoor and indoor part. It’s a Rum bar. Their mojitos are on POINT though. :)
they dont usually do bottle service but got a couple bottles and drank rum and coke all night with my squad. it was great. GREAT music and just culturally a great place to be and smoke cigars outside!
Definitely a cool place in downtown LA.

Bromance is in the air here. «Members only» never fails to conjure memories of ugly jackets, but this rum bar is much more upscale. The membership is $ 20 and you can bring up to five friends. So, I just imagine cigars and groups of dudes, but I went there with a friend, and it was a civilized experience. The tiki drink was way better than anything I had at Tiki Ti, but it was served in a large blue plastic cup with loads of crushed ice. Carriers of flasks everywhere, you will love this drink. Just take it out on their sexy smoking terrace and enjoy yourself.

Located in DTLA, Cana Rum Bar was a little small and dimly lit. The outdoor patio is actually enclosed and lined with mirrors so you have the illusion that it is bigger than it actually is.
Located minutes from LA LIVE, good place to grab a drink before a start of a game or a show.

Rolling up to the entrance you get the strip club vibe. Hidden door set at the back corner of a parking garage. Smells of cigars, smoke, and sex spill from the door as you walk up. Really though, is this a strip club? Or a hostel? Fugg… I forgot to bring condoms.
If you some how get thru the velvet curtains that block you from seeing what’s inside… you’ll know why you are so special… and why this is a members only spot.

Came here last night, and I got to say, I would have never found this place if my friend didn’t bring me here. The entrance is in a parking lot, but the moment you walk in the door, you totally forget that you’re basically in a parking lot. Nice ambience and really friendly staff.
Since we came a bit late, we were able to try some off-​the-​menu drinks, which were delicious. My overall favorite was the Rum and Coconut (which was actually on the menu). You get a great brown sugar taste in addition to the rum and the coconut water. It’s served in a REAL coconut too, so you get to also dig in and eat the coconut meat as well.
Overall solid place, although I prefer La Descarga since it’s closer to my home. This is a fantastic option if you’re in the downtown area.
