Fish fish oh I love fish I have heard about them for a while but have not tried. Now i know why people say Chomak when I say korean style fish dish! Food — impeccable. Parking — impossible to find parking! I dont know why they are not doing anything about the parking. It is so annoying I almost just left. Service — typical Korean service. Nothing too good nor bad. They did make us say same thing twice because nothing was served unless i asked for it again.

I absolutely adore this place. The seafood soup is my favorite and you can’t ever go wrong with the fried rice. Customer service is ALWAYS great and the place is just lovely.

This is where I get my soul food. Braised cod with kimchee and radishes. That is where it’s at. The fish dishes are all really excellent. I also love their fried fish, too. Their beef dishes are fine. Not the best ever, but pretty good if you’re just not in the mood for fish. They play old-timey Korean pop music that helps give that homey feeling. The wait staff is super-nice and attentive. Also, a bunch of famous Korean celebrities have been to this place, based on the photos on the wall. They’re like totally A-list bigshots, actually — if even I know who they are, they are basically superstars. I am assuming they had fish, because it is really good here.

I’ve eaten at numerous Korean restaurants and this is a stand out. Doesn’t have the heavy MSG taste like other restaurants. Great place for dinner but also as a place to drink soju because they also serve anjoo which is meant to be eaten when drinking. And their anjoo is better than other drinking spots. And for non Koreans who want a more authentic taste then it’s a must try.

We came here cause it was one of the few Korean restaurants that served chicken. My aunt only eats chicken. The service here was awesome! They were all very generous! The server was very attentive and knew the menu well! The only thing that was disturbing was my girlfriend’s entrée had hair in it, and it definitely wasn’t hers! But the server took it away right away and the cooks make a new one really fast! He apologized for the event and was very sincere about it !

Ever since I had a traumatic incident involving fish bones as a kid, I stayed away from fish-based foods. That’s until my friend took me to Chomak Fish Grill. Not sure what we got, but it was different kinds of fish submerged in spicy liquids. I carefully removed the skin and nearly invisible bones in a meticulous fashion. I think overall it was worth it, the fish was very well cooked and seasoned. I can tell a lot of care was placed in making it edible. Even though I was still uncomfortable in my entire visit(due to the past trauma), I was able to nibble here and there and enjoy my experience.

Love this place! My sister took me here to try traditional Korean food. Their Bulgogi and Seafood Rice Stone Bowls are amazing! They are DEFINITELY a must try. Filled with a lot of flavor and are very filling. They give lots of delicious side dishes too! The owners and staff are also friendly and welcoming!

Had the Everything bowl. This thing has everything– The thin steak. Meatballs. Misc. fish Udon. Broth!!! It was lit. The young couple next to me argued throughout. He’s a liar, she says. But I suspect they’re both lying, to themselves, believing it may work. Service is good.

I am not really fan of grilled fish. I have never had better grilled fish than fish that my mother makes. This restaurant know how to grill and What temperature of oil must be for grilling fish. Crispy skin part and softness inside. Also their ddukbokki was perfect spicy level and sweetness level. Kitchen chef knows how to cook and how to control ingredients.

This is the place to come get delicious broiled fish asian style! Enough said, hands down, this place offers a variety, A VARIETY of fresh broiled and grilled fishes. You get a nice presentation of all of the side dishes they offer. This place is great for pescatarians; it even has great affordable prices.

As a college student, its hard to find delicious seafood at an affordable college kid budget. Chomak definitely fits the criteria. Only thing about this place that doesn’t fit the criteria is that parking is a little tough, and if you’re not used to LA drivers, driving through around K-town around dinner time would definitely irritate you. So if you’re like the rest of us busy college kids who have zero time to waste on cooking or even driving out to pick up food, I always use RushOrder’s delivery service. Saves me a lot of studying time.

Chomak has been on my list to try for awhile now and last Saturday presented the perfect opportunity. I wanted a place that wasn’t too crowded, no long lines and a nice environment to just partake in a good meal with some friends. The interior was nice and clean and the tables are nicely spaced out so you don’t feel like you’re eavesdropping on your neighbors convo. There was only one waitress when we went for lunch on Saturday but she was super friendly even though she had to take care of all the tables. Mackerel — their grilled Atka Mackerel is what you want to order. it was grilled to perfection and it was so good, we ordered another for«dessert». I’m not kidding. Spicy Kalbi Jjim — a giant dish that had about 9 – 10 pieces of kalbi jjim albeit a spicy version unlike the traditional. very very flavorful and it was perfectly seasoned. Mung Bean Pancake — crispy perfection, comes in a serving of 3. Gyeran Mari — i don’t see this on too many menus so it was a must and it didn’t disappoint. the eggs were rolled and seasoned nicely with chopped green onions inside. a squeeze of ketchup on top rounded it out. Gochujang Jjigae — we just wanted an order of soup to go along with the dishes and ordered this one. spicy enough without it being too overpowering and really well rounded flavor. i could have eaten this with rice and be happy. All in all a really nice experience and I will definitely go back. The only downside to this place is the tiny parking lot and lack of valet as well as the lack of a/c.

Awesome Korean bar food. I’d come back here with a friend to have a good time drinking and munching on appetizers. Green mung pancake — Sooooo good. Cooked crisp perfect! Chicken gizzard — Also very good! I liked their tabasco hot sauce that had a twist. Fried chicken with onions and jalapenos(I forgot the name maybe it was Spring Onion Chicken?; first on the list of appetizers) — surprisingly good! I didn’t know what to expect when I ordered this. I thought it’d be fried chicken legs with a green onion twist but they were actually strips of chicken breast that were breaded and fried served with raw onions, raw jalapeño peppers, and sweet soy sauce based sauce. It was a good dish to munch on while drinking and chatting. Spicy beef braised short ribs — this was mediocre. The sauce lacked the spicy kick and it also wasn’t salty enough but the meat was very tenderly cooked and melted in my mouth. Pollack soup — I had no problems with this. They serve it with a portable gas burner so that we can continuously eat it hot. The soup didn’t taste and smell too fishy and the pollack was soft and tasty too.

OG Korean food~ took my parents for lunch and they were quite satisfied, which says a lot since my parents are so picky when it comes to Korean food.

Old folks in Korean restaurant = gorgeous chicks in club. And this spot had a good number of young-at-heart Korean boys and gals eating. A sign that you cannot go wrong here and rest assured authenticity is guaranteed. Had their $ 8.99 lunch special with fried mackerel. Blown away. Wow, that was so good. Everything tasted home-made not by your mom but your hal-moh-née(grandma) who lives in country not in big cities. Nothing overwhelmingly salty or sweet. Seasoning seemed on point on all banchans, and their dwen-jjang gook(bean paste soup) tasted super delicious. It was earthy and kind of rustic yet anchovy broth gives it delicately nice sea-flavor. Loved it. Mackerel was fried to perfection. Crisp outside and moist inside. The taste of good fat from mackerel was just heavenly. Instead of drizzling some lemon juice, it came with sliced onions and ponzu-like sauce with wababi. They made perfect companions. This food made up for the mediocre Korean squid dish I had yesterday. Very good Korean restaurant that might make you think«Whoa am I really in America?»

After a blistering workout my fiancée and I were famished… but oh what to do, Unilocal had CRASHED. Until then, every night out Unilocal would be a faithful mediator, a neutral platform where we could compare reviews and come to a quick and efficient consensus on what would be our next exciting foodie adventure. Without it, we became like two confused dogs running around ktown looking for our tails. At 9pm on a tuesday night, we stumbled upon Cho Mak, a ‘new’ place that had just replaced Wando. We were greeted by a thunderous voice who was probably the manager or the owner, which actually made us feel excited and thought ‘hey maybe we don’t need Unilocal!’. But we spoke a little too soon… As soon as we stepped in we were confused. Is this a bar? or a restaurant? The lighting was dark, the ambience was romantic, and the music was amorous… but they served cheap grilled fish. Maybe an ideal place for a stingy first date? You can literally palpate the confusion of the owners trying to design this place, maybe they tried to have their cake and eat it too, by making it a bar and a restaurant to cater to both types of customers. They failed. Starting from the reheated food(kimchi stew), to the their cheap décor($ 20 tables bought from the local korean furniture store down the street), to the disdainful waitresses that blatantly ignore the manager’s constant calls to provide better service, this restaurant or bar does not work in so many ways. Added to the fact that out of the four tables seated two belonged to the staff, and there was an unmistakable aroma of weed coming from that direction at the end of the night(not that we’re prude by any chance), we concluded that this is a place we’ll try again… when the next restaurant takes over. Unprofessionalism and simply downright uncaring at its worst. The stench of failure reeks in this joint.

I am feeling stuffed and happy after enjoying lunch at Chomak. Randomly my fiancé mentioned eating mackerel after several of our other lunch choices were closed on Sunday :(but in the end, this turned out to be a great thing! I was a bit skeptical at first, although it looks new and modern, they are having an a/c problem and someone was there fixing it when we arrived. They had several fans out and I almost wanted to leave, but we endured and I didn’t notice the heat too mcuh. We ordered mackerel of course, and yeolmu naengmyun since it’s so hot out. The lady was like – uhh it’s spicy! I told her ok, ok it’s fine haha To start she brought us small cups of what tasted like soybean milk, the lady suggested we add salt, but I liked the cool and plain taste. Banchan appears small, but everything was so flavorful and a nice variety – eggplant, white kimchi, fried tofu, apple cabbage mayo salad, little shrimp, cucumber kimchi, and maybe something else I cannot recall. The mackerel was delicious! The lady showed us how to mix the onions with the wasabi and soy sauce which really had a great flavor, added a nice fresh crunch the the fish. The fish was also served with egg drop soup and rice. I also really enjoyed the yeolmu naengmyun, it was cool and light, not very spicy at all, had a bit of sweetness to me. Our total meal was $ 20, so affordable and such delicious food – the service was friendly and welcoming! I will definitely come here again.
