Co-op 28 Handmade & Vintage

This is my favorite store! The store is clean, welcoming, and full of great new stuff that would appeal to everyone. Every time I walk in, I’m greeted (makes a huge impression, I think) and I’m happily assisted without feeling the pressure to buy. My favorite part about the store… the jewelry selection! I’m tempted to buy a new piece every time I go in. It’s dangerous! It’s refreshing to have a store in Los Feliz that’s constantly improving and standing out among the other stores in the area.

The reason for the 3 stars? The customer service of course or lack their off. Older lady working there ignored me and when I did attempt to make eye contact to ask a question I was met with a dirty look and a clear disinterest to help me. Other people walked in and were greeted. I was about to buy a cool print but was turned off at how I was treated. 3 starts for the material things inside, minus two for price point and whack service. .
Really sad cause I do enjoy this place, the décor, the art, it has really cool items. A little on the pricey side, but do think this is store adds to your stroll along this part of Vermont Blvd. too bad they’re not one for friendly customer service.

After eating a fantastic meal at the Sidewalk Grill, we walked across the street to investigate the Churro Borough (for my daughter who LOVES churros), and then happened upon this wonderful store, Co-​op 28. The items in the storefront display window immediately caught my eye, and I found myself stopping in my tracks, looked at my hubby and said, «What’s this?»… which, in my lingo, really means… «let’s go in.» And that we did.
I LOVE stuff like this… beautifully handcrafted items by local artisans, and some really cool, funky, and downright AWESOME stuff in there. I was particularly smitten with these small table timepieces in some very interesting shapes, not to mention the handmade ukuleles. Loved it. They had soaps, clothing, some blingy, attractive picture frames, really cool shot glasses, art work, signage, you know, I can’t remember it all… but I remember walking around with my mouth open, which usually indicates that I’m blown away by everything… and I was.
My recommendation? Go to the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles and check this place out… but don’t do what I did… don’t walk out empty-​handed. You’ll be sorry you didn’t buy something.

Eclectic shop in Los Feliz with new and vintage looking chatchki type housewares. Everything from candles to pillows to jewelry and more. The price tags on items are a little more than I think they are worth but it’s a fun shop to look around. You may just be tempted by something you didn’t know you needed.

I always find cool stuff in here. Lots of handmade unique nick nacks and all the staff are super sweet. One time they offered me a glass o’ wine while shopping!

I love this place. Really unique stuff all in one place. I’ve def spent more than I wanted to on multiple occasions. Ppl call out the prices, which is true, they are high. But it also is worth something (that margin) to have their buyer go out and curate all this adorable, quality shit you wanna buy.

This is one of my favorite places to buy gifts. I always go in unsure of what I’ll get, then somehow come out with the perfect thing.

This shop is really cute. And the employees have a great vibe. BUT as others have stated, the prices are much higher for the exact same goods as other stores in the neighborhood. I bought an awesome pair of reading glasses a few days ago from Skylight Books for $ 19. I saw the EXACT same glasses here for $ 29.00.
Some of the art work that sells for $ 40 here can be bought directly from the artist’s website for $ 19.00. And finally, I bought a really adorable pair of earrings here that changed colors in a very short amount of time.
The items they sell are cute, quirky, interesting, etc. and as I previously stated, the employees and the owner are incredibly nice, which is why I try to buy things here once in a while to be supportive of small neighborhood stores. I’ve gotten holiday gifts, candles and one pair of earrings here. Their candle collection is extensive and really nice. If price isn’t too much of a concern for you, this is a cute store. I hear they’re opening a coffee shop soon.

With the current trends of DIY crafting, Pinterest, and Etsy; there is no better time than now for local artists to display their goods and receive due credit. I’ve been crafting, making jewelry, and maxing out my DIY-​skills for over a decade but am still attracted to the homemade products of others. A couple years ago at a Unilocal event; Unilocalers received a 20% off voucher for Co-​op 28. I FINALLY ventured into the store. How was it?
Co-​op 28 is a spacious, airy store that takes over two storefronts with one focusing on home goods and furniture while the other houses jewelry, trinkets, a little bit of vintage clothing, soaps, perfumes, etc. The best way to describe Co-​op 28 is that it is basically a flea market inside a store but much more organized, tidy, and with new and vintage-​inspired products. This is a boutique and not a thrift store environment by any means.
If looking for Etsy-​esque homemade products, this is the place to go. All of the products are trendy/​hipster but also unique and one-​of-​kind local artisan goods. Charming and ‘cute’; they certainly make great gifts or additions to own home. My overall problem is that nothing stood out. Yes, Co-​op 28 is darling but it is just like every other store in LA that sells similar items. I’m not saying it is ‘bad’; it just doesn’t stand out. There is no extra ‘oomph’ that would entice me go out of my way to return.
The biggest issue? Prices! Co-​op 28 is not for the thin-​wallet crowd. Heck, I don’t think even the 20% off coupon would help me much. Example? A display was selling charm pendant necklaces with charms straight out of Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. I SWEAR I have seen them there and IN FACT: I make my OWN necklaces and rings using them! Yet, how much were these necklaces sold for? $ 30!!! INSANITY! These charms are about $ 2 – 5 at craft stores and a chain (even a retro one) is easy to obtain. Basically, it is about a $ 20 markup. I understand local goods costing more but sheesh! Be prepared to fork over some dough if shopping here.
On the plus side, though, is customer service. We ventured into the store literally about 2 minutes before closing. The two females on duty weren’t helpful in the sense that they didn’t ask what we were looking for or if we have been in the store before; BUT, they were not pushy, did not kick us out or make comments about wanting to close, did not give us dirty looks, etc. That is truly noteworthy and appreciated as many stores (both big-​box and local retailers) tend to be VERY rude and bitchy when you try to enter their store in the last couple minutes. I didn’t experience any of that at Co-​op 28. Well done!
Long story short, Co-​Op 28 is a cute shop to find local and DIY goods which make great accent pieces or gifts. The problem is that it is pricey and nothing «sticks out» if you have experience in either making these items yourself or with shopping in such boutiques. Co-​op 28 is not a bad find but not mind blowing.

Very cute place. I loved the variety of good there and found most of them very unique. It didn’t seem to pricey which is nice, although I didn’t actually buy anything. Its a fun place to browse and if I lived closer I would probably stop in often.

Firstly let me say that we don’t want to leave a negative review. We’re leaving it, because (A) we feel that the couch fabric does not meet our expectations (B) co-​op 28 is not standing behind their product.
I brought in a cushion off the couch so they could inspect it. The factory deemed the damage dog related. The part that doesn’t make sense to us is the fact that we had our last couch from blueprint for over 5 years without any problems. This fact makes me think that the co-​op 28 fabric is not of the same quality.
Therefore, If you have pets I would say don’t buy your couch here. Having pets voids any kind of warranty. Let me be clear, I’m not trying to destroy their business. They may have fabrics that will hold up better than the one we chose but when we purchased it, and now after all these problems, conversations etc we have not been made aware of any such fabric.
I will continue to support small businesses like co-​op 28 but I will not be making large furniture purchases through these companies. You do get a more personal feel when buying and supporting small LA companies like this is so important. But, at this point we have no recourse but to pay more money to fix it or flat out buy a new couch. If we had purchased through a bigger reputable company and had a problem like this we have no doubt that they would stand behind their product.
First Review: We purchased the Dresden sectional with a gray wool sweater type fabric. After 6 months the couch looks like it’s over 3 years old. Fabric is really bad. We called and asked about fixing it but the sales person said they couldn’t help us. We loved the idea of supporting a local business but we might as well have thrown 2 grand out the window. I’m going to search for some good re-​covering services to see if we can’t salvage it.
Update #1 I have to say that I wish I hadn’t bought my couch here. If we had just paid the extra money and bought it from west elm blueprint or cb2 I’m sure we wouldn’t have had to go through this. We actually bought a smaller futon style couch for my office from cb2 around the same time and it’s doing just fine.
Update #2 After contacting me they asked if we would bring in one of our cushions so they could assess the damage. I was really hopeful because unlike the first csr, the woman on the phone seemed very nice and she sounded like she really wanted to help. They took it back to the factory and after almost two weeks they deemed that it was our fault that the fabric is pillowing and looking very worn. Since the factory wasn’t going to cover it their solution was to offer to recover the couch for $ 675. We already paid close to 2000 for this thing, it should’ve been made with better fabric. Our last couch lasted for well over 5 years and looked fine, it just wasn’t big enough for everyone.
I feel even more frustrated than when I wrote this review the first time. When they contacted me I guess I got my hopes up that they would come through for us. It’s too bad that they didn’t.

There’s always something funky, quirky, and amazing at this Los Feliz shop. It’s a good mix of furniture, vintage clothes, and fun boutiquey gift shop items. Great place to find a birthday present.

Love this place! It’s adorable, friendly and fun! So many cool things to choose from. Feels like I’m visiting friends when I’m there. So many magical, funky, cool… and smell goood-​look good stuff to select. It’s always hard to leave. The owner is a beautiful friendly woman who projects feel-​goodness onto her shop. And Zoe, the dog, is the cutest!

I bought a sofa off the floor and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. Although it was a «cash and carry» deal, they were kind enough to let me schedule delivery for a week later, as I had to get rid of my old sofa before the new one was delivered.
I returned and ordered a matching ottoman, and again, they made the process easy and enjoyable. Thank you Marci, Dani-​Marie and all at Co-​Op 28!

One of my absolute favorite places to shop for unique and personal gifts. I can spend hours in here exploring the many treasures and unique pieces by local artists. I highly recommend it to all!

I loved this store! So many cute, unique finds. There are lots of great smelling candles, posters, mugs, and furniture. The ladies who worked in the store were very nice and willing to help wrap things up.

A friend told me he visited this store by chance and what a find! I was hooked! I was hunting for a mid-​century sofa and VOILA! 3 styles to choose from! I got to choose my fabric (over 40 fabric swatches), stain of the legs, and got the size I wanted. It’s locally made too in LA which is a plus. The price was terrific, hundreds less than ANY other store, and I can’t wait to see it in 3 weeks.

I walked by after closing one night, and my friend practically had to drag me away from the window, I was so enchanted by their sofas and design aesthetic. I knew I would be coming back the first moment I could!
I walked in, not knowing exactly what to expect, but was immediately delighted. There were so many perfect gifts! I managed to pick up two gifts for people who had completely stumped me without even breaking a sweat. Unreal.
Since I’m in the market for a new couch, I sat on the few they had in the store. Very comfy, stylish, reasonably priced, and it appears they are custom made in LA. Wow! I just emailed them to see if they can make me one free from animal products (down, wool, leather, that sort of thing) and if they can, I have a feeling I’ll be back with my husband in tow ASAP.
As I was walking around with my loot, one of the sales associates asked if she could wrap them for me. «Like…for free?» She nodded. «Oh man, yes please, yes yes yes.» Damn, this store was knocking my to-​do list out of the park.
Since I now live only a hop, skip, and a jump away, I have a feeling this will be my go-​to gift shop for anyone I’m not completely sure what to get.

They sell everything that makes your world magical. If the prices were better, I would buy it ALL! I am able to find some really great deals sometimes, other times I’m just unable to resist.

Great place to purchase gifts or to treat yourself. They have options for men, women and babies. I love picking up cards here for all occasions. Some nights they even offer wine as you shop. Unfortunately the only parking is street parking which can be a bit of a challenge.

He was right. It did smell like heaven. Even better — it had a plastic dinosaur figurine glued onto the lid and spray painted gold. It was by a San Diego based company called Put a Bird On It and it’s amazing.
I’ve been into Co-​op 28 a handful of times and they’ve only improved each occasion. The staff is super friendly and enthusiastic. But, even better, the stock is totally radical. We’ve purchased amazing jewelry, awesome soap, radical candles, an unreal cool flask, and tons of other stuff. They have clothes and jars and vases and hats and everything you’ve never known you’ve always needed. It’s one of my favorite stores in all the lands.
If you need a cute gift or some other bullshit to fill up your house, Co-​op 28 is your friend. Just trust me.

At first look this store may seem overwhelming. They have so many different facets to this store. They have everything from shampoo to home goods. I was directly drawn to the skin products. I was please to find that they had a large selection of natural and organic skin and hair products. I bought some lip balm, hair mask, soap and mints and they are all very natural. All of there products don’t have harmful chemicals such as sulfates.
I wondered to the very back of the store and I wasn’t pleasantly surprised. They had a huge selection of curated vintage products. What I love about this store is that everything is very neat and in order. It is easy to find specific items. They had super cute sweaters that were reasonably priced.
What I love most about this store is that the workers are so nice. They helped me pick out products and informed me about them as well. They even told me of I don’t like any of the beauty stuff I can bring them back, which is pretty rare for a small company such as them.

Co-​op 28 is a lovely gift shop on a prime stretch of Los Feliz Village. I’ve wandered in on a couple occasions, just because I was passing by. It’s a cute, inviting place, and I imagine it entices a lot of pedestrian customers.
I remember when the place opened, so it can’t be very old, and at some point in the last year or so it took over the space next door, thereby more or less doubling in size. Good sign, I think. The store is large and charming, full of quirky home goods and gift items, with a small area for vintage clothing in back. The goods are made by local artists — think of Co-​op 28 as a live regional Etsy.
The store is fun to browse, and it’s full of neat gift items. You can buy flasks and coasters and jewelry, handmade dolls and candles. Matt B. and I bought a canvas print (or whatever you call something that’s basically a poster on a canvas) with the major streets of Los Feliz written across it in cool lettering. It will look great on our wall when we get around to hanging it up.
Service was friendly. The woman who checked us out told us about the artist who made our print, and while we promptly forgot that information, I appreciated hearing it once.
Co-​op 28 will be a top stop for gifts and impulse buys going forward. It’s a cute store that adds a lot to the neighborhood, and I hope it continues to thrive.

I was on my way to Ramekin next door and I walked straight in here without hesitation! Everything I saw just drew me in. It was like an Etsy store come to life. There is tons of handmade jewelry and lots of artwork. There’s a little something for everyone. I love the vintage, hippie feel of it all. The décor was awesome too.
There’s a clothing section that’s mostly vintage, consignment clothing. Very retro! There’s also vintage handbags, scarfs, and other items. In the back of the store there was a men’s section and it was really awesome.
I would definitely consider this for gift shopping. There are a few people in my life that are so difficult to shop for. I know I could walk out of this store with a little something for everyone and it would also be super unique!
Loved this shop. Can’t wait to visit again :)
