Crumbs Bake Shop

Oh God… I’m so sad that they’re closing ALL of these down. It’s soooo sad. I believe Crumbs had better cupcakes than a certain well known competitor *coughs* Sprinkles. They were moist, fluffy and not overpoweringly sweet.
So sad.

This location was in the Hollywood & Highland Complex right across from MAC and in the lesser known hallway. Parking is $ 2 for the first 2 hours, then it gets pricey. *Sigh* another business bites the dust.

It really isn’t that great of a product, well, the cupcakes at least. Got the vanilla cupcake with the strawberry cream cheese frosting.
On the plus side, the cupcake-​to-​frosting ratio is just the way I like it: a little frosting for a lot of cupcake so that the frosting flavor doesn’t overpower the cupcake flavor. However, in this case, the cupcake flavor should be ashamed of itself. It tastes like it came from a package, not from scratch. Very manufactured-​tasting, not fresh.
At a cupcake store price, the product should not taste like it came from Safeway; I can just go there next time and spend less money to get the same thing. What a disappointment.

This is a really tiny location on Hollywood Blvd. I came here right before closing and I got a vanilla on vanilla cupcake. For $ 3.50 it was worth it and pretty huge. I’m not a fanatic for cupcakes, but it was goood.

Crumbs is officially my favorite cupcake store !!! I LOVE their crème/​icing filled cupcakes !!

Oh they’re all so good! The frosting is just perfect-​smooth, silky texture, right amount, cake very moist. Love love love the crème filled center!
It is a pretty tiny store, but staff very helpful and friendly. Can’t wait to go back :)

First off, the staff was extremely friendly! And they sell Starbucks tea, how did I never know this?
The cupcakes are BIG! But they lacked awesome flavor and I think they tasted old. 2 of our cupcakes were extremely dry and not fluffy and moist how a cuppycake should be! Also the cookie pieces on top of the cupcakes tasted wet?
I would go back because they are close to my apartment and have soooo many different flavors. But no, they are not the best cupcakes ever!

I’ve been dying to go to Crumbs ever since I heard about all the hype in the New York location. I finally was able to try their cupcake today in Hollywood. This shop is really tiny with no indoor seating, but there are two patio sets outside the shop. I got the vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing and sprinkles ($ 3.95 each). I was expecting an out-​of-​this world taste but there was absolutely nothing special about their cupcake. It tastes exactly like something you would buy at a Von’s or Ralph’s grocery store. I think the Costco cakes tastes better because their cake is moist. It’s good to get your curiosity bug out of the way and try their cupcake but I doubt you’ll ever crave it.

Staff is friendly, they serve Starbucks coffee & iced green tea, cupcakes are huge!
I bought four cupcakes here:
Mint chocolate chip
Red velvet
Chocolate covered strawberry
Toasted coconut
My only issue is that I thought the chocolate covered strawberry cupcake was supposed to have strawberry cake. Oh well, the hard chocolate fondant and pink sprinkles made up for that. I still think Sprinkles’ red velvet is the best in the world but I like Crumbs’ white chocolate sprinkles on the edge.
Mint chocolate was delish! Chocolate Chips adorned the edge!
Toasted coconut had vanilla custard filling– not too sweet.
Their water bottles even have the Crumbs logo, jester and all.
Cupcakes aren’t the best but it’s worth it to get at least one if you stop by H&H. I agree with the Unilocaler that said to slice the bottom cake part width wise and put it on top of the frosting part. Much better ratio!
I’m just sad the watermelon flavor wasn’t available the day I was there. Maybe I’ll get to try it someday.

I love Crumbs! Been coming here since I was in high school and I still haven’t tried all the cupcake flavors. There’s too many to choose from. I recommend that you go on there website and looks at the flavors before you walk in. You will definitely be standing there trying to decide on just one for forever… Or you could end up spending way too much on these sweet suckers. Take it home and enjoy it with your own milk because each cupcake is already $ 3.99 on it’s own.
They occasionally have special limited edition cupcakes. Right now until february 20^th they have the girl scout cookie thin mint cupcake. It’s pretty awesome. Taste just like the real deal maybe a little sweeter. Now if only they would do the other flavors of girl scout cookies. I’d be there everyday!
For the flavors they normally have in stock I love the Salted Caramel and Red Velvet. They also have other ones that have strange names that don’t exactly let you know what’s in them Don’t be afraid to ask the person behind the counter to explain to you all the ingredients.
Tip* Use the cupcake sandwich method. Take the bottom half of the cake portion and put it on top of the cream. It makes for a better cake to cream ratio! So it won’t be too sweet and you won’t have a bunch of cake left with no cream. Plus it’s much easier to eat. You can thank me later :)

Crumbs cupcakes are very dry and bland! I make better cupcakes by far. Recently I’ve had the red velvet, chocolate with chocolate icing and coconut and cookies n cream. All were dry and the chocolate icing on the coconut one no joke tasted like it came from a Pillsbury container. Wtf?
For me Sprinkles is the best. The service here was slow and poor. I had to ask for a bag for my cupcake. The only way Crumbs beats Sprinkles is in not charging $ 1.75 for a single cupcake to go container. That is also the ONLY reason why I give Crumbs two stars. One for lousy taste and one for the free cupcake box.
If I were on a diet and had Crumbs in my house all the time, they would all end up in the garbage. Crumbs cupcakes look great on the outside but leave you unsatisfied.

After a long day amongst the hordes and orcs of Hollywood, my wife & I were on a journey to find the one Dessert to «rule them all» and restore peace to our stomachs.
We were surprised … and hopeful … at the twinkling site of tiny Crumbs Bake Shop on the Mordor level of the Hollywood & Highland Center. We hopped in and got two cupcakes to go.
Unfortunately for my wife, once we got home, I ate both cupcakes before she got even a bite (My Precious!!) and that’s what led to an at-​home re-​enactment from Lord of the Rings.
Sam: It’s gone! The elven bread! He took it! He must have!
Gollum: Smeagol? Oh no not poor Smeagol. Smeagol hates nasty elf bread
Sam: You’re a lying wretch. What did you do with it?
Gollum: Look. What’s this? Crumbs on his jacketses. He took it! He took it! I seen him.
Poor Smeagal in his squeaky Gollum voice cleverly name-​dropping his favorite Cupcake shop into a pivotal scene in an Oscar-​winning movie… «Crumbs on his jacketses» … haha… Nifty product placement.
It’s probably no coincidence that this Crumbs Bake Shop is located at ground zero for the Academy Awards. It was also no coincidence I was caught with Crumbs crumbs on my jacket either ’cause, unlike Samwise, I had eaten the last of our cupcakes.
Ok, I know. That whole LOTR-​thing was kind of lame.
Hey it’s better than re-​enacting Crumbs and Crumber, right?
I’ve had Crumbs Cupcakes from 3 locations and these were the least fresh of them all. Even so, they still tasted like something sweet made in the Shire.
* Squiggle Cupcake ⁴⁄₅
Like a Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong, this Chocolate Cupcake is filled with Vanilla Buttercream and covered in Chocolate Ganache icing with a white squiggle on top. It’s all the flavor you remember in a modern man-​size cupcake.
* White Hot Chocolate ³⁄₅
Usually, this is one of my favorite Crumbs cakes, however, it was dry cake and probably made much earlier in the day/​week. Bummer because it’s a sweet Vanilla Cupcake filled with White Chocolate Mousse. On top is Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting with White Chocolate Chips, Marshmallows and White Chocolate Drizzle.
Of course, I have to make up to my wife with another trip across Gondor & Hollywood to Crumbs Cupcakes. I better get a dozen and go in the morning when they’re fresh. And then, cast a spell so I don’t eat them all in the car on the journey home.
Sam: Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It’ll be morning soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they’ll be eating the first of the Cupcakes with Cream. Do you remember the taste of Crumbs?
Frodo: No, Sam. I can’t recall the taste of food… Nor the sound of water or touch of grass… I’m naked in the dark, with nothing. No veil between me and the ring of hunger. I can see them with my waking eyes!
Sam: Then let us go get Crumbs! Once and for all! Come on Mr. Frodo. I can’t carry it for you! But I can drive you! Come on!

Bottom line at the top: Cupcakes here are just as good as the other Crumbs locations, but the employees here are always rude. Avoid if you can, especially considering that Frosted Cupcakery is not too far away and soo much better.

If you absolutely have a hankering for an Artie Lange (arguably their best cupcake) I would suggest that you get in and out as soon as possible or consider a different location. Also be ware that they don’t validate here so you’ll need to leave yourself time to go to the concierge desk. Skip altogether and high tail it to Frosted Cupcakery! They have my favorite cupcakes in all of LA and all the gals there are always super polite.

When I first started this review I had just eaten one of these extremely decadent cupcakes and entered into a sweet coma. It took me 2 months to wake up from said coma and finally finish this review. I know this chain claims to make cupcakes, but let’s be honest. These are not petite cute confections. These are humongous slabs of delicious cake concoctions neatly packages in a cupcake shape. I have been happily awaiting the day when I would stumble upon one of their store fronts, and while in Hollywood I did. My visit did not disappoint.
I ordered the chocolate brownie cheesecake bottom cupcake, and my husband ordered the dulce de leche one, and both were yummy. They had a generous amount of dense cake, mile high frosting, and toppings, that were seriously sweet. If you prefer your sweets not to be to crazy sweet, you may be better off going elsewhere. Or, you can do what I did and slowly work on the «cupcake» over the course of a few days, while slowly plunging slowly toward a sleepy abyss. It’ll be the sweetest dream you’ve ever had.

I tried the red velvet cupcake, and it has got to be one of the worst cupcakes I have ever tried from a bakery. The cake was very dry and over priced, $ 3.99.
Sprinkles and Frostings taste so much better, their cupcakes are moist and the frosting from both these companies is better.
Save your money and go somewhere else. I still need to try babycakes, georgetown cupcakes, and big man bakes.

I have to admit: The cupcakes here are a bit on the expensive side. But damn, are they decadent! It’s like a Willy Wonka version of the Cupcake Factory. They have such a large variety of unique flavors, that you might be standing there for a while. And the cupcakes themselves are HUGE!
I had some sort of caffeine/​cappuccino-​flavored cupcake the last time I went. I can’t remember because I think I OD-​ed on sugar shortly after eating it. Which brings me to my next point: If you’re counting calories, don’t go in there! In fact, don’t even look in the shop’s direction. I guarantee you won’t be able to resist all that sweetly-​smothered temptation.
Oh, and they offer other stuff, too. I just can’t remember what. But I know it’s sweet.

Just ok cupcakes in an interesting location. I was stuck in LA for 24 hours because of an airline problem and decided to take in the sights. We ended up at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the walk of fame. Realizing quickly that after 5 minutes, we’d had enough of that tourist trap, we stopped for a cupcake and a drink. There are a few tables and chairs in front of the bakery which was nice as sitting outside in Houston in June is unthinkable. So taking advantage of the disgustingly nice weather in LA was exciting.
The cupcakes were large and were just «ok». Nothing special and nothing awful. It’s the type of place I’d go to if it was convenient but no special trips would be made. My husband liked but didn’t love his Apple Crumble cupcake. My chocolate cupcake was very pedestrian.
Overall, an interesting spot for people watching and take a break, but I’m sure there are better cupcakes very close by.

This place definitely caught my eyes not only because of where it was located (a lot of touristy traffic), but also because I saw the colorful sweets through the glass doors that dared me to pass by them without hesitation. So, of course, I had to take a closer look at what looked like a sweet tooth’s dream land.
The store itself is very small, more like cramped since the doors were closed due to the wet weather that day. The cupcakes were all so deliciously decorated, including the colossal one that was sitting on top of the display case as if it was the queen of the cupcake world.
I just wanted to get a few cupcakes for my kids (and myself) to try, but I couldn’t decide and ended up getting the taste pack for $ 19.95 (a dozen mini cupcakes). There were 2 different taste packs, but I bought the one that was called the kid’s favorites, which included 2 different pink frosted ones that I knew my 5yo would absolutely love. Although these babies were visually delectable and pricey as well, I thought they were (disappointingly) just okay — the cake was moist and the frosting sweet (too sweet for me), but nothing really stood out. I still gave it 3 stars because their staff was friendly and I liked how the store was set up (very cute and appealing to the eyes).

Maybe I’m just getting old, or maybe it’s because the last time I had a cupcake here I was just about to get painful excruciating dental surgery for a whole in my gum which exposed the root of my tooth but I’m just not digging cupcakes the way that I used to.
They have plenty of flavors, and cupcakes that are huge (big enough to share). I always seem to find myself grabbing my fat roll before I go in here «hmph! no… two handfuls today… no cupcake» «my stomach fits in one hand… okay cupcake!»
The flavors are very awesome though, I am a fan of the cookie and cream. It’s nice how the icing is also INSIDE the cupcake, although some people can be a fan of that whilst some are not.
The cookies are good though! I’ve taken many trips there for mall coworkers to grab them a cookie.

I got the blackbottom cheesecake cupcake and all I can say is: This is no ordinary cupcake!
Felt and tasted more like a brownie which is great coz I generally find cupcakes boring.

A little too big and too sweet to be eaten alone which is fine because they’re not that cheap either.
But that’s not gonna stop me from coming back!

Two words: Sugar overload!
I had heard about Crumbs a while back. One day, I was at the Hollywood and Highland shopping center with friends, and on the way back to our car I saw the bake shop. Curious and excited (since cupcake places make me happy), I decided to walk in.
Atmosphere: Cupcake places are usually the cutest. They had all of what they were selling on display, and the décor was colorful and happy.
Cupcakes: OH MY LANTA, THESE CUPCAKES ARE HUGE. I was craving for something with a coffee taste to it, so I got the Espresso cupcake. Overall, the cupcake was good — it was moist, and the frosting tasted like coffee. What got to me was the filling. It’s a nice idea, but after a while I started getting tired of how sweet it was. I think if it was just the massive cupcake on its own I would’ve enjoyed it more. $ 3.75 may seem like a lot, but hey — you’re getting a cupcake that is the regular size of a slice of cake — trust me, it’s big and filling.
Service: The people working there are so friendly! The lady behind the counter was super helpful as she let me know what was in each cupcake.
If I’m ever in the area I’m pretty sure I’ll give it another try with another flavor.
