The Language, Speech and Hearing Center provides assessments and treatment in speech and language, early intervention, fluency, voice, aphasia and stroke rehabilitation, brain injury, social skills, and augmentative/​alternative communication; audiology services including hearing aids and cochlear implant programming.

History

Established in 1962.

The Language, Speech and Hearing Center was established in 1962 as the clinical training site for the speech-​language pathology and audiology students in the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences. The Center’s students, under supervision of licensed and certified speech language pathologists, provide assessments and therapy to our local community.

Students are supervised 100% of the time, in accordance with guidelines set by the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association.

Meet the Manager

Janice W.

Manager

Janice is a licensed and certified Speech-​Language Pathologist, and the Clinic Coordinator of the Language, Speech and Hearing Center. She Is part of a team of very knowledgeable clinical supervisors.

Prior to coming to CSUN as a member of the Communication Disorders and Sciences staff, she was the Pediatric Therapy Supervisor at Cedars-​Sinai Medical Center, and the Adult Rehabilitation Therapy Supervisor and Brain Injury Team Coordinator for White Memorial Center. At Cedars-​Sinai, she was a member of the Craniofacial Team, and at White Memorial she was the Cleft Palate Team Coordinator.

Janice has lectured and taught extensively in both medical and educational settings, on clinical supervision and clinical skill areas. She has developed a Clinical Skills Boot Camp for Speech Pathology Students, and feeding and swallowing programs for Children Who Are Picky Eaters.

Janice has also undergone extensive training in leadership, process analysis, and corporate communication proce
