Pretty good place to eat if your living in the dorms near De Neve at UCLA. Food quality is pretty good but the portions are a bit too small. Also, the types are cuisine are a bit limited but you can’t be too picky with dorm food. Overall 5 stars because it is all you can eat.

I ate at De Neve Residential Restaurant for the first time yesterday. I paid $ 10 to get a ticket to have access to the place. I got to have salad, pizza, and ice cream. I also had a glass of milk and water. I didn’t check all the food options offered in the place, but I liked what I got for the price payed. For the record: The place also had brownies and pie. Note #1: Some of the clean plates by the salad bar were not thoroughly washed(some still had food stains on them). Note #2: I don’t know the hours of operation of the place(I went for lunch), but the staff began cleaning house while patrons were still eating/serving themselves food.

Very tasty. My favorite of all the dining halls by far. The man who swipes everyone in is one of the most socialable and friendly people I’ve ever met.

Please re-evaluate your staff training and procedures, in order to effectively run the dining hall business. I do not appreciate being accused, ridiculed, harassed, publicly humiliated and interrupted during my meal time in order to childishly scold anyone(Zan Tansey). Your behavior will not be tolerated by anyone, at any level, and at any position. Your title’s do not include mistreating any type of CUSTOMERs to your dining hall’s. All meal’s are pre-paid prior to entering your facility, which allows any CUSTOMER to eat at their leisure. Do not allow customer’s one minute prior to closing if you will be having issues with allowing people to eat their meal comfortably OR on the go. Since this is an open buffet, your staff has no right to restrict limitations on how long nor how much a person can eat when they have contributed to their meal ticket, as well as your sorry paycheck. Your staff professionalism is out of line — completely. What an embarrassment for UCLA«staff» — and what a domino effect you will create on your own. Please relax on the egoism of working for this school, because these are clearly not true jobs. Good luck. WARNING /NOTE TOTHEPUBLIC: Beware of the massive amounts of oil and uncooked(pink) meats that this dining hall has offered on their counters. The health hazards, conditions and interactive treatments is a beautiful legal issue in the making. ***This review was not written by a student.

De Neve is both my favorite and least favorite dining hall out of the four on the hill. My favorite because more often than not the food and menu is the best. My least favorite because I definitely go heavy on the calories when I’m here. Good food, wide menu, great location. All adds up to a great dining experience. Other campuses envy places like de neve, and we as UCLA students should be greatful for not only the quality and verity, but the time that goes into making this place run well and the staff.

As a staff member of UCLA, I occasionally eat at De Neve Commons. It’s a fun place to eat every so often. It’s a UCLA run Buffet! love the soups and salads, prefer the non-hot dog /hamburger stuff, except for the pizza slices. De Neve also has lots of dessert choices. I always eat too much when I visit because I want to eat almost everything!

Closest and easiest dining to get from my dorm room and from campus. It’s definitely way better than covel dining hall. The good thing about de neve is that there’s also late night which serves you pretty all sorts of munchies.

annual ucla trips… over a decade of de neve commons dining… buffet food hasn’t changed… standard breakfast… few stations for omelettes and other kitchen cooked plates… pancakes and waffles typically dry… eggs overcooked… lunches and dinners always providing standard salad bar… sandwich meats in the afternoon… grilled cheese, fries and burger types from the kitchen… different themes from pasta, mexican, chinese, etc. as daily«specialties»…having quite the experience in uc dining commons… ucd being best in freshness, preparation and quality… ucla, uci, ucb and ucsd ranking quite poorly in comparison…

Hm. Well it’s all right. Feast is generally more preferable, but De Neve can be pretty standard fare on most days. You can’t go too wrong with it. Coffee machines are fun to play with. Traditional UCLA dining is best exemplified with De Neve.

The most convenient and closest dining hall so often very crowded and packed. The food quality is only so so but not much more you can expect from cafeteria food.

Great place! I remember coming here as a freshmen on a daily basis, and even now, three year’s later, it still lives up to its reputation! Legend says, UCLA has the second best dinning halls in the nation — and I could definitely see why! There are always new dishes and flavors to explore, and the best part of it all — unlimited! You can go up and get as much food as your little stomach can handle and you’re allowed to take dessert on the way out :) The main two issues I have with it(that’s why I gave it 4 stars) is that it’s extremely noisy and it’s hard to find a table since it’s always so crowded. I’ll definitely come back at least once before I graduate.

This is the best dining hall at UCLA. I dreamt of De Neve when I studied abroad for a quarter. This place is easily one of the things that I will miss most about being a Bruin after graduating. Never thought that I’d say that about ‘cafeteria’ food. Thank you De Neve for making me one happy, healthy vegan for the last two years. If a vegan can be happy going here day in and day out, I’m sure most others can find something to suite their tastes. The salad bar is amazing. Whole Foods ain’t got nothin’ on De Neve. Buckets of real(not canned) beets, organic tofu, broccoli, tomato, carrots, cauliflower, peas, mushrooms, bell pepper, hummus, salsa, pesto, onion, cucumber, green beans, radishes, baby corn, sweet corn, olives, zucchini, artichokes, bamboo and…? Yes! Beans, Beans, oh my! They have garbonzo, edamame, kidney, and black beans. They have spinach, baby greens, romain and even that nasty iceberg lettuce crap for the noncreative people. De Neve has it all. My only complaint is that every other time that I eat there, my stomach hurts from consuming too much delicious food. Thank you De Neve, you have done me right.

To the Unilocaler comparing this to Home Town Buffet: Damn, which HTB are you eating at? I’m sick of the food here too, but there’s no doubt that UCLA food is always preferable to anything sitting for hours underneath giant heat lamps. Yes there’s nowhere to sit, the lines are long for the daily special, and there’s almost no variety, but the food here floors other schools and even some restaurants. Anyway, this review is mostly for Late Night since there’s not much input on it. It’s an awesome way to use up your [friend’s] swipes and pig out on bar food. Top tier: Fries, chili cheese fries, shakes, and vegan chili. It’s really easy to make crappy chili cheese fries, but Late Night does a really great job. The potato skin is left on, which I’d usually think to be out of place in chili fries but it works. The vegan chili won’t win a Texas chili cookoff, but it’s surprisingly hearty despite the name. Mid tier: Mozzarella sticks, onion rings. I was really looking forward to these, but they just weren’t memorable. If you’ve had TGI Fridays microwavable appetizers, you’ll know what to expect. Still, I’d be down to order these again. Low tier: Pizza, wings. The slices they have out in the dining hall are really good, so why do these suck? These sad, floppy pies look and taste like they came from a Digiornio’s box. Not worth the six swipes unless you need food for a group function. Wings tasted like they missed a step while they were making them. I really wouldn’t order anything from the My Pizza service again. Still haven’t tried the burgers or hot dogs. And I saw that they have Carne Asada Fries? Wow, I can’t wait for my next trip here.

Not living in the dorms now, so a meal at the dining hall is always a treat. De Neve is still one of the better ones, and I think the menu is healthier now. Yay! Underclassmen, please swipe me in!!!

After eating here for three years, I am sick of this place. The selection isn’t very good, or diverse. The menu is cafeteria style, rotating the same items every so often with variations of the same stir fry. For entrees, Rieber tended to be more favorable in terms of variety. Hedrick was also good, while it was open. The desserts here are not that great as well. The cakes are dry and always the same, and the selection isn’t as good or more than any other dorm. If the ice cream machine is actually working, it is nothing to even bother gaining calories for. Breakfast was meh. I don’t know if the scambled eggs are even eggs, so to make sure I got the omelets. The omelets are awesome, but remember that Covel has a better omelet bar. The redeeming quality of this place is the overall good quality of dorm food at UCLA. I’ve been to other campuses and other UC dorm food places, and there is definitely a wider selection here. The salad is also fresher and a good constant, especially when feeling guilty about gaining that freshman 15.

This place has the best brunch on campus, hands down. That is all.

The undergra are so lucky to have dining hall at school. It’s buffet, and it’s cheap. Only 7.5 for lunch and 8.5 for dinner. So anyone can fill his stomach. They have bunch of food, many varieties. Just the quality is not that high. It’s ok as a dining hall. At least you can choose what you want and eat however much you want! So convenient.
