Decades is AMAZING. I have found fabulous items there that are reasonably priced. Example: Givenchy boots that are this season worn maybe once but a tenth of the price. They may have the best selection of current and vintage items in the LA area, but the thing that shines most at this store is the service. Helena, Roger, and Jeffrey take customer service to another level. They are warm and welcoming from the moment I walk through the door to helping me search the entire store trying to find that perfect piece. I have been all over the country and Decades is my absolute favorite store to do all of my high end shopping.

Just came in this afternoon, Helena was absolutely amazing! She helped me find the PERFECT bag and is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! Come in here if you need an outfit or accessory for any occasion!

TL;DR — Exceptional customer service. Is NOT what you will find here.
I work relatively close so I thought I’d stop by after work and give things a look-​see. And that was it…
I walked in and there was another party in the store. Fine. 5 minutes… no greeting. 10 minutes… no greeting. I’m not someone that needs handholding when I shop, but blatantly ignoring me is customer service on another level.
Onto the stuff. The purse selection is old and dated. It looks like what your grandma would take out of her attic. And… not in the stylish «oooo vintage!» way either. The shoes are ok but the sizes are sorely lacking and the prices are ridiculous. I know rent for this section of melrose is not THAT high. The clothes look kinda like organized clutter…
At this point. I circled the store twice and still nothing. The girl was standing at the register so I decided to get closer in hopes of a greeting. I look at the sunglasses right next to her… and nothing. Also, an old pair of karen walkers are 260. The style is old. The hinges are so loose. The paint is scratched. For 260. Go to barneys and just get a new pair. At least you’ll be greeted.

There is a lot of advertising about this store.
In reality it’s just a bunch of rude people with no idea about fashion.
I went in recently and received terrible service, the close had BO and they were not clean.
What a disappointment!!!

When I was planning my trip to LA, I wanted to do a few things that were different so I decided I wanted to go to a vintage retail shop. I picked Decades and was not disappointed. The vintage designer clothes were so much fun to look through as I love fashion! (Chanel, Dior, etc.). But most importantly, the people at the store were very nice! (Helena) Yes, you do need some money to purchase but the sales associates were there to answer any questions and make you feel right at home. A very long story but I found a dress I loved that Angelica Houston wore at the 1991 Oscars and they were kind enough to let me take a few pictures of it :) Such a wonderful adventure for this out of towner! I felt the need to remind some of the reviewers that Decades contract for consignments states that after a year they donate. After a year why should they hold on to an item if it doesn’t sell? You could come pick it up before the year end. So you should not blame them.

Not one of my favorite places to go to get rid of old designer things.
In order to sell anything you must provide 10 designer pieces to put on consignment or you won’t be able sell anything. After that you’re welcome to leave one or however many you want. The problem is I don’t have 10 extra designer pieces laying around! Also, I feel they don’t give you what they’re really worth.

I had been invited to a designer trunk show on the second floor — very nice leather work but most if it could be found in adult books stores in West Hollywood. The real treasures are on the first floor. The Chanel jackets and purses are heavenly. The real reason why I feel so magical about the store was the service I received from Helena. I felt like I was in Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman on 5^th — her sense of style is impeccable and her manners and customer service are very 5 star — I will become one of the disciples of the store and will always ask for Helena.

DO NOT CONSIGN HERE! I consigned like 15 designer pieces and when I contacted them about the status I was informed that they GOT RID OF IT! What a horrible experience. I had consigned here before and they sent me my items back after a certain time period, but not now. They just give your stuff away with no notice. My friend is a personal shopper at Barneys and said NO ONE consigns here anymore because of the way they handle their business now. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They do not care about their customers at all.

I’ve been thinking of Decades as more of a couture museum than a place to shop. It is beautifully organized with items, new and old, from some of the best designers. The prices are high, but negotiable. My Mom purchased a beautiful blue cashmere sweater for an excellent price. Most of the items here were untouchable, hard to believe that people wore these things and that more people would wear them again in the future. The staff was kind, I climbed their (steep) stairs to see the second floor and a woman followed me up, I figured that this would happen and I was fine with it. She answered my questions and wasn’t rude when she realized that I wasn’t there to purchase couture.

Worst consignment store ever. I brought what added up to almost $ 10,000 (their pricing) in items and getting an accounting for everything was a NIGHTMARE. I put more time into trying to find out what sold than it was worth. I was told different things, told my check was in the mail, it never was, they actually «lost» items that I wanted back. It was horrific. I recently called with some Balenciaga (brand new) items and the person on the phone was rude and ignorant saying «we don’t want those items». Seriously? Balenciaga leather motorcycle jacket and suede Velo? I wouldn’t go to that store if you gave me 30 minutes to walk in and take what I wanted for free.

Consigners, RUN FROM THIS NIGHTMARE before you get caught up in their farce of a business. I have never in my life been treated with such unnecessary and 100% undeserved disrespect.
An EXTREMELY condensed version of what happened is that I was supposed get a check for $ 700. I was told it was mailed. It wasn’t. I went in the store to see what was going on and was told by Jeff that even though it was mailed, he would just write me a new one right then and there. Fine. But in reality if he had already sent out a check, and it did get «lost in the mail», then he would call to make sure it hadn’t been cashed and STOP PAYMENT ON THE OTHER CHECK… you don’t just rewrite one! So he had obviously lied about mailing it!
I look at the check he wrote and it was only for $ 600. I told him that it was supposed to be for $ 700. He sort of sighed and wrote another one for $ 50. I look down and before I can say, no you still owed me $ 100, he had disappeared in back. I asked to speak with him and was told he already left the store!
I called when I got back to work and was told to come back the next day and to pick up the rest of my stuff along with another extra check. A few hours later I received an email from Jeff saying that I asked too many questions and that I was no longer allowed to consign at Decades!
I got banned from what is essentially a high end Pawn Shop!!! While that is sort of an amazing story to tell, in reality ALL I DID WAS EXPECT DECADES TO ISSUE ME A CHECK IN THE AGREED UPON AMOUNT!!!
I got out lucky… with my items and the correct amount of money, although it’s in the form of 3 separate checks and took 3 phone calls. And its not just me, I literally overheard 2 other women talking about how they didn’t understand why they were getting a lesser amount then they were told to expect the day I went in to collect my items.
I’m not the type of person who is afraid to speak up for myself, and although I did it in a respectful and nice way, IT GOT ME BANNED! This place doesn’t like you asking questions and expects consigners to be too intimidated by the clerks’ stuck up attitudes to be their own advocate.
Bottom line: In addition to being seriously snobby and excessively judgmental for A USED GOODS store, they play games with the money and expect consigners to believe their lies about when they will receive checks and the amounts owed to them.
If Jeff is the only one who can issue checks then he should be on top of it and issue them on time and in the correct amount. HE SHOULD ALSO STOP LYING ABOUT THINGS GETTING LOST IN THE MAIL. Start taking responsibility when you are the one lying and cheating, and don’t blame others when YOU GET CALLED OUT ON IT.
Jeff, you should probably go back to working at the Wurtzels Pretzels in the Topanga Mall because that’s as close to luxury items as you deserve to be. Xo

I am a fan of vintage couture and seeing such an exclusive collection of high end designers from different decades is something that makes every fashion lovers heart skip a beat.
Though the prices are insane, the goods are in pristine condition and you will not be wearing the same thing as every other starlet in LA.
Service was very sweet, though I didn’t buy anything, I appreciate the collection and the store

Came to Decades for the first time today to look for sunglasses. Found a really nice pair of YSL! The price was great and was even offered an additional 10% off. The staff that works on Sunday was so nice! Let’s you look without bothering, but as soon as I asked for help were so helpful and friendly! I will be back!

I wasn’t too happy about shopping in a small boutique where the employees smell like cigarette. I mean, seriously, who smokes and goes back to work without disinfecting that awful odor from them. AWFUL!!! I was discouraged to shop more. I was so close to buying an item also up until this one lady with a weird looking tattoo by the back of her neck came from her break and smelled like A55. I wish she didn’t open her mouth at all. Store has good selections of high end designers for the most part. Wished to see more selections for the shoes dept and online. Also the carpet smelled like pet urine by the first floor dressing rooms where they have a appt desk area.
To me it’s very important to be in a clean fresh store and makes it pleasant to shop.
Sorry decades, time to think about some good hygiene.

I have to admit that I’m somewhat of a consignment shop junkie, and Decades is my shop of choice. They are one of the only shops in the area that really know their stuff and offer you a fair price for your items. Note that they only accept premier designer items, they may take some of DVF and Alice + Olivia.
Megan is the absolutely most wonderful person, she’s always so nice and helpful. Christos, Cameron and the crew are usually super nice, I’ve never felt out of place here, even standing next to a 6k ball gown that I’m paranoid to even touch! I have gotten some great deals here and have made a fair amount of $ selling as well.
The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because they didn’t pay me for 2 months. I had to bug them often and I would be told that my check would be coming in the next batch, and nothing. I had to go in person and when I got my list of sales, it shows some of my stuff had sold 6 – 8 wks before and I had been waiting for those funds for over a month. For example, some items were dropped off on March 12^th, they do check runs on the 1^st and the 15^th, I was told I would get a check on April 15^th, then May 1^st then May 15^th, finally when I was handed my check I was told that it was going out on June 1^st! I referred someone and she got a check 2 weeks after she consigned!
Needless to say I’ll be checking in every 1^st and 15^th from now on!

This review is for the modern consignment store (first floor), not the vintage store.
I first discovered Decades thanks to Facebook — one of my friends was ranting about her $ 150 Louboutins, and, naturally, that caught my attention.
So I stopped in last Saturday.
The store does have a doorbell, which you have to press in order to be let in. It’s not terribly intimidating, and I’m sure it helps crowd control, so whatever. The bottom floor is where they sell contemporary designer items, and is made up of two large rooms with high ceilings and large front windows. Clothing is arranged by type and color — the front room has dresses, jackets, and shoes; the back room has more dresses, bags, a small selection of evening gowns, tops, pants and jeans, skirts, and men’s clothing. The second floor has Hermes, Chanel, the majority of the eveningwear, and vintage clothing (I didn’t go to the second floor).
Selection is excellent — they have everything from Chanel to Louboutin, and most items are in near-​perfect or even new condition. Prices are a fraction of retail price — but not necessarily the best price you’ll find those items for. If you know where to look (or even if you don’t), you can find better prices on many of the items. For example, they were selling a coral-​colored Herve Leger for about $ 300 more than what I paid for it – and I purchased it, brand new, from the Herve Leger boutique on Melrose about forty minutes before coming to Decades.
That said, they are completely willing to work with you on price. I picked out a $ 900 purple snakeskin jacket that was marked down to $ 350, and they gave it to me for around $ 280. My husband nabbed a $ 6000 leather jacket marked at $ 1100 for $ 800. In other words, this is a great example of why it never hurts to bargain!
I was very pleased with my shopping experience at Decades. The sales people were extremely accommodating, the selection is excellent, and the prices are fantastic once you’ve done a little haggling.

I took a gorgeous YSL suit there as a consignment. Every six months or so I would check on it and would be told by staff, «Don’t worry. It’s still here.» Three weeks ago I decided to rescue the suit.
Communication on this issue was very poor. I called three weeks ago and was told that the manager would get back to me ASAP. Having never heard back, I called again yesterday. The manager returned my call this morning and informed me that Decades lost my $ 1,200 suit.
He claimed that the store must have either attempted to contact me or simply sent back the suit. Further, if I didn’t have it in my possession it must have been lost in the mail. Other than checking up on the suit from time to time, I have never received correspondence (other than sale announcements) either by mail or phone from Decades (my phone number and address have been the same for years).
If nothing else, if Decades had sent the suit, the person in charge of doing it should have both insured the package and used Delivery Confirmation. If they had not sent it, they should have called and asked that I pick it up.
While the manager was as pleasant as he could be given the circumstances, he also placed the responsibility on me. I’m out the cost of this suit, and that’s the end of the game. To be fair, I’m pretty sure Decades lost my suit before the current manager came to the store.
Given my experience, I will never bring clothing here again. However, if you do, be EXTREMELY vigilant about checking up on it. When the contract is up, even if the staff tells you otherwise, pick it up yourself.
