Dogwood Daycare & Boarding

This is the best Doggie Daycare in Los Angeles. The only place I leave my 9 year old min pin. The owner, Kate, is lovely and treats each dog as if it were her own. Highly recommended.

My dog, Shiloh, has been going to Dogwood since she was 5 months old. I was at first impressed by the fact that they required a full day with them for the temperament test. I am a dog trainer and agree with Kate when she explained their policy: «your dog’s temperament will be different throughout the day» and they wanted to see how she handled herself for a full day, rather than the routine 10 – 15 minute cursory «temperament test» that most day cares require. I also work in television production and Shiloh regularly stays at Dogwood for the full 12 hours available. I have never once had a concern about her while she’s there. Kate is wonderful about posting videos of the dogs during the day and I’ve often been jealous of seeing Shiloh lounging under the shade tree while I was at work! The biggest tell for me though, is how Shiloh reacts when we walk up to the gate and she sees the folks there: she gets full wiggle butt! Usually, Shiloh is a velcro dog and does not like to leave my side. But when the gate at Dogwood opens, she practically forgets I’m there and trots in happily to see her buddies.
I have also boarded Shiloh overnight at Dogwood before and even had a friend or family member pick her up and drop her off. Again, I was impressed about their policy of requiring the name of the person who would be picking her up. I don’t have to worry about anyone walking off with my dog without permission! I trust Dogwood like friends and I know that they truly care about my dog and often check in with us when they haven’t seen her for awhile. There are very few other situations where I have the peace of mind that I get when Shiloh is at Dogwood and I am incredibly grateful for their care! I often recommend Dogwood to others, including my clients. Shiloh looks forward to seeing her buddies Eugene, Mr. Shiloh, and Jimmy again very soon!

We’ve been taking our lab, Taylor, to dogwood for over eight years. We can always count on Kate and Mick to take care of our girl for daycare and boarding. Highly recommend them!

Coco our dog has been going to Dogwood for about 6 years and he loves it. He learned to play well with other dogs and is now well socialized. Dogwood is a house converted for dogs and it is great. The dogs can lie on the couches, go outside into a big back yard and sleep on cushions in enclosures, but NO cages. We know Kate & Mick will take really good care of him and he will come home happy and fit from all the play time with other dogs. We love seeing the pictures on Facebook when we are away and can see how happy he is and how much fun he is having. We are so happy to have found Dogwood and highly recommend it.

My husband & I love Dogwood Daycare & Boarding! Our two dogs have boarded there for some time & I feel confident they will be well treated & will be getting plenty of exercise playing with other dogs outside. Kate has sent me both pictures & videos of my two darlings which makes it even better. Kate & Mick the owners welcome Max & Bruno with open arms & I know they will be well taken care of when we are away. Kate takes great pains to make sure the dogs she takes in are healthy & have had their shots which I for one approve of since in the past one of my dogs came home with Kennel Cough after a stay at a very well known boarding
New York. So know you are leaving your dogs in a clean, safe environment & they will not be left unattended in a cage, but instead playing with other friends & having fun!

I love this place! Great location and amazing facility with indoor and outdoor space for dogs to play. Kate and Mick (the owners) are so nice and welcomed my dog Luna with lots of love and fun on her visit! It was hard for me to leave Luna on her first day, but Kate was awesome, she posted videos of Luna playing with all of the other dogs on their Facebook page that day! She was having a ball! We are starting full time here in March and I am so relieved to have a safe and fun place to leave Luna while I am away at work:) Thanks Dogwood!!! –Whitney

Its great to know that my little guys are outside enjoying the days with friends instead of being in a poorly lit warehouse full of barking dogs.
Dogwood is clean, it has a great outdoor space, and best of all, i know my dogs are with people that actually care about them.

Wiley is almost 9 years old and we still love Dogwood. Just like coffee is apart of my daily routine– so is Dogwood. I would be a tad lost without Kate. Another fun detail about Dogwood is their FB page. They often post fun videos or photos from the week.
My dog is my kid and daycare is not cheap– so I believe you must trust where are take them for daycare. In short– still a satisfied customer after 8 years.

My pups have a great time at Dogwood! As a very protective pet owner. It is tough to leave your pet in someone else’s care. I’m confident that when they are at Dogwood they are happy and safe. Kate is always nice to coordinate with. My pups come back from their stays well fed and happy!

Scout has been going here for 7 years. He loves it. We love Kate and we won’t trust anyone else with our kids. (Scout and Molly.)

I give Dogwood 5 stars, for almost 2 years of loyal, loving, friendly service and care of our 2 beloved chihuahua-​mix dogs for weekday daycare, and several weekends of overnight boarding.
Kate and Mick have rules, and I respect that — They run a tight ship, (not to mention a business in Venice, CA. so I appreciate their security!) but they are honest, fair, real people who love our dogs, and our dogs love them.
Honestly, our dogs are so excited to go to daycare each day, they know when we’re getting close, and start making noises and moving around in their backseat beds. And usually, when we drop them off, Ziggy is eager to take a quick pee on the fence/​bush, then paws his tiny foot at the gate to be let in. They are both always so happy to get to Dogwood to hang out with their friends all day!
Believe me, these are happy dogs who know they are in good hands when I drop them off at Dogwood!

I have been bringing my Havanese Jake, to Dogwood for 7 years. Kate and Mick have always been great to him and to me, of course there is an interview with the dog and a temperament check, every boarder in LA does that. They keep records of his vaccinations and even introduced me to his current vet when I needed a new one. Best of all, she was absolutely heroic when Jake ran away from home, using social media to spread his picture and description, calling and then personally visiting shelters looking for MY dog. She treats Jake as if he were hers and he loves it there. After nearly three days lost, it was Kate who found him in the Westside shelter, she came to my house to get me and I got my dog back. We’ve since moved to a house with a yard he can’t escape, but I wouldn’t have him at all if not for Kate. Would not consider boarding him anywhere else — he receives excellent care and barely spares me a backwards glance when we arrive, he is so excited to be there.

I was driving by and stopped to get some info when I was confronted by a man at the door telling me I need to have an appointment to come in and bring my dog with myself for an INTERVIEW. instead of the customer interviewing the place to have a peace of mind the dog place wants to interview the customer lol. another woman that worked there came up and started talking crap and I felt extremely uncomfortable so I took off. Believe me, nothing makes me uncomfortable but these people had bad energy and border line rood. Not a place I would ever consider again. The place down the st on Robertson has MUCH friendlier staff. I use a place in Tarzana called K9 only and they are extremely professional but they are too far for me.

Was sent here by our vet in CC thinking it would be a great option. Unlike some of the other reviews, we did not mind the pre-​work and actually took comfort in how they seemed to be so detailed in the screening of the dogs they let in. Like others, we got the one initial tour and that was it…
We found the owners quite rude, the guy would get upset when we inquired about our dog and where they kept her throughout the day. The last time we went I peeked through a crack in the blocked off fence and saw our dog in a side pen, by herself with no other dogs. If we wanted her penned up all day with no one to play with we would have left her at home! After asking about why she was over there he got noticeably upset and ushered me out of the place.
We will NEVER go back and recommend you all look elsewhere for daycare as they are not accommodating, rude & not sure they treated our dog the way they stated they would.

I have been going to Dogwood for years and love it, as does my bully, Roscoe. Mic and Kate know Roscoe well and let me know if anything seems amiss ever –I trust them to look after him and take good care of him. Other customers have also been going there for long stretches of time and everyone seems to know one another. It’s a real neighborhood-​y place. Highly recommend!

REVISED DUE TO THEAT OF LEAGAL ACTION… NICE CENSORSHIP Unilocal… Now to Dogwood they are HORRIBLE!!! STAY AWAY!!! Please note that you are not allowed to see the play area after your initial walk through. I took my pup there when he was little I have to say he was SO much better after we stopped going. Please note, unless your dog is old and they don’t have to do much with them don’t waste youtr time. So happy we have moved on.

Kate the owner is the rudest woman! I was trying to have a conversation with her about my puppy and her requirements and she wouldn’t even let me finish my thought before interrupting me!
On their website it says «All dogs must be at least four months of age. All dogs must be neutered or spayed unless they are under six months of age.» So that means that if my dog is 5 months and not neutered he could go stay. As I have a large dog with potential hip problems, I have been advised by my vet to neuter him at 1 year old. She would not even listen to me and blurted out rudely «I do not want your business if you are only coming in 1 time. I want repeat customers!» Then hung up the phone on me.
So you don’t think that I wouldn’t come back after a year if you have good service?
I never post Unilocal reviews, but felt necessary with this company because if this is how she speaks to her «potential customers» how does she treat the pups?
Please do not go there! HOW RUDE!

I have passed this doggie day care and boarding place a million times so, since I had Joey in the car, thought I would stop and take a look.
You have to ring a buzzer and the owner comes out to let you in. She was very rude, not at all accommodating. She said that before visiting, you have to make an appointment and submit documentation from the vet regarding all shots, blah blah blah. Yeah, I know, sounds very good for when you are boarding your dog. But just to walk in and take a look around??? Even Canyon View Ranch (which is the best boarding facility anywhere in the area) let’s you walk in and take a look without submitting paperwork!
It would have been nice if she had offered to let me take a look without the dog, or say something like «We appreciate your interest and look forward to having Joey once we see his paperwork.» But no. No people skills at all. No welcome. Just a sour face and rude treatment.
You know the saying, «You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.» Wow, does that apply here. I don’t care what their facility is like. You treat me like that, and you’re not going to see me again.
Buh bye Dogwood. You lost one potentially very good customer.
