Don’t waste your time (and especially money) I’ve tried various dishes on more than a few occasions. Great Logo/​Marketing scheme, very appealing… but once you eat your food, you cant help but wonder why did this ish’ cost so much?!! TOTAL RIP-​OFF

Based on all the shining reviews, I think I just chose the wrong day to try this restaurant for the first time. I always pass by it and always say I want to try it. When I finally did, it was a cold, windy day on January 31^st of 2016, I was feeling under the weather and I was craving Mexican-​style soup. Chicken soup and cocido were on top of my list. Well, they were out of it! Out of cocido, out of chicken soup. They also didn’t have barbecue, the staple for which they are known based on these reviews; and no meat. Really? Out of all days they could’ve run out of this stuff. I was so incredibly disappointed that I lost my appetite and left.

This place is packed, the hand made tortillas and the lamb is making this place one of the best places to in LA. Don’t let this Small hole in the wall fool you. This place serve some of the authentic Mexican home made recipes. The service was excellent (thanks Rocio)
This was my first time eating lamb, but my wife have had it already and it taste good! The only thing i will complaint is the place is way too small, but I wont be surprise… it will not be for long.

The restaurant is smelly and disgusting. The surroundings are filthy. I wouldn’t let my dog eat there. There wasn’t any sign indicating their grade from the county health department. Illegal!

First of all the service was not so good and the prices r to pricey for what they serve 4.50 a taco really if it was well served I wouldn’t mind paying but it wasn’t well served and didn’t taste that good. We will not return here.

I grew up in this area and is seriously a hidden gem! So delicious! A girlfriend and o shared a pound of barbacoa with a consome on the side. i always crave this

Very tender barbacoa, the service is friendly and welcoming. We were seated fast, and also tried the «consume» which was also delicious. They gave us hand made tortillas with our pound of barbacoa, along with green and red chile, cilamtro, limes and white onion. Traditional tacos done the right way.

Worse food I have tried, they give me my order wrong thank God it was only one Gordita. really really worst food ever, the horchate was good. But in not sure to come back again to eat.

I just had two Sopes de barbacoa (lamb sopes) and they were big and tasty. The meat is very soft and tender I will be coming back for a quick bite. This location is small but it won’t disappoint. I also got a free Cucumber water with the purchase of any plate.

Best restaurant with food from the state of Hidalgo in Mexico. It takes like home made!

I got the carne asada burrito which was a decent size with lettuce and beans — not bad, not amazing — just a standard burrito. The meat had too much fat in it, and not enough flavor. Adding hot sauce didn’t really do anything for it either.
There’s a parking lot though so that’s always a plus in this area.

Yes yes yes. The food is amazing and just what I set out to find. I will recommend this place and hope you stop by.

My boyfriend brought me here for the first time about a year ago. I love the barbacoa wet burritos.

I just sat down with my family like 15 min ago… we really like this place and come here often. But today we decide to sit and eat instead of getting to go… The waiter literally picked up the left over salsa from the previous table and poured it in a container where they grab salsa for the people coming in. Where the clean salsa should be… we got up and left this was disgusting … and a stupid move the restaurant is so small clients can see what you are doing

Food was perfect, a couple missed up with my order! They took a lot of time to bring my food! Barbacoa is what a came to eat breakfast! But severs and service need more time to work with us customer!

I’m not that big on the barbacoa but hey they do have other choices as far as food goes, however, most of it is cooked with waaaaay too much onion/garlic-don’t get me wrong I like me some onion and garlic but it’s just too much.
The fruit blended drinks are great!

For the people that wrote that the meat needs more taste, you need to know that there are some parts of the lamb that are not that tasty, so if you want a more flavory pice of meat ask for the rib or tight. This is authentic barbacoa cocked in a hole in the ground with cactus leaves.
Their juices are fresh made at the moment. Their waitress are very nice.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR THEIR BARBACOA MEAT AND LAMB BROTH ONLY.
Tip. Ask for barbacoa by pound without bone, (make sure to as for the part of the lamb you like otherwise it may not fulfill your expectations) they will bring tortillas and you will get more meat than if you order the dish with rice and beans which are average, don’t forget to order conzome (lamb broth)

Not today, my friends.
I walked into El Borrego De Oro expecting honest, affordable, and rustic Mexican fare. What I happened to get wasn’t a surprise, nor a bad meal. It was just plain disappointing. For a place that is named after the animal that bears this favorite Latino meat, I’m sad to say that this joint definitely needs a good shock back to reality.
Although the place appeared to be packed, I found that the restaurant itself only seats about 15 people, and seemed to be seating even less due to the poor service. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the service at this place is just outright nonchalant, even at its best. The waitress had us wait until a party of two left their table (mind you, a table for 5 – 6 people) and proceeded to seat us at the dirty table. She then took about five minutes to clean up, followed by a 10 minute wait for menus.
When I finally received my order, I had been through both my complementary chips and a long conversation with a friend. That being said, the food arrived, only to more disappointment.
The barbacoa was lukewarm, and tasted too gamey, much more odd than my other samplings (including my experience in Durango and Mexico City). The consome I ordered had the same odd taste, and had absolutely no seasoning apart from salt. Both items could’ve been complemented with basil and oregano. It certainly didn’t help that the waitress came to badger me about the broth when I hadn’t gotten through half of it.
Alas, I was not done. In the middle of my bland food, entered a rather unsolicited pair of musicians. After one terrible song and ten minutes later, I had to leave due to the fact that their portable Roland amps had left me with a splitting headache. Not to mention that the management and restaurant team didn’t notice, or really cared about the fact that an obnoxious performance took place in the tiny restaurant.

Final Verdict: The only unsung hero was the fresh-​squeezed orange juice. Thus, a ²⁄₅. Will not be coming back.
