I love this little resturant. It has the best mexican food. It has a great big variety of authentic mexican food. Service is slow but its worth the wait. A must have.

The«Locals» must know this place well. Every once and awhile you find a restaurant by accident and discover a hidden gem. El Puerto Escondido on Eastern Ave. in Los Angeles is such a place! We didn’t know why it didn’t appear very busy for lunch on a Friday, Who knows, maybe we were just early. The menu has a wide array of authentic Mexican style Seafood, which is their specialty. We ordered an appetizer a bit off the menu, Grilled Butterflied Shrimp draped over a Calderon of Lime Infused Diablo Chili-Verde sauce with wedges of Avocado on the side. This is nearly a meal in itself. With the right amount of heat along with a subtle blend of lime giving it a perfect balance of a hot-bitter taste, this was a wonderful start to our lunch hour. I had the Enchiladas de Asada which is a healthy portion of well seasoned steak. My friend had Grilled petite Shrimp in a salsa rosas which he said was just awesome! Both meals come with either a salad or mixed vegetables on the plate. Chips & salsa are also served while you wait. There is a selection of domestic and imported cervezas as well as mixed drinks, soda’s and water to wash this all down with. One note however, the portions are large and price is moderate(my meal was $ 11) and for the three of us with appetizer and beer the total bill was around $ 75. CASHONLY — even though there are credit card logos in the front window. It’s a good thing we all had cash or, we would have been washing dishes all afternoon(LOL).

I came here for lunch with my girlfriend and won’t be coming back, we ordered a shrimp cocktail and wet burrito. They brought out each order about 15mins apart and not at once. The shrimp was not cleaned so we sent it back the waitress was nice about it and apologized and asked my girlfriend if she wanted something else, but the chef came out looked at us. Also I got a fountain drink and never got a refill I even put my cup at the edge of the table. The waitress walked by about half a dozen times. Also food didn’t really have a lot of flavor

Love to come here for the whole grilled Lobster with rice and beans and a corona. Reminds me of Porto Nuevo in BC.

I feel horrible for pre-judging this place, I assumed that it was going to be poor quality and we went here only because we had few options in the area. I can’t tell you how impressed I was, they have a great selection and excellent prices! We ordered a family platter with crab that filled up 4 very hungry adults for only $ 55. The crab was on the slightly too salty side but other than that it was a great meal. Service and ambiance were excellent as well.

Fish tacos are legit, extra large tacos for $ 3 with a good fish to batter ratio. Weds special 2 for 1 fish tacos. Complimentary chips are light and crispy, salsa is good.

It was a slow day at puerto escondido but there was only one server who had to deal with all the tables so I accept how slow it was for her to make our margaritas and bring our food other than that the food was great the ceviche de pescado was so delicious and juicy idk how there are bad comments on the food presentation was also great here I will always come back here

The food looks great but it’s flavor is not good, I have tried two different plates and none had any flavor. I was very disappointed since it looks great but no flavor at all

Hadn’t been since it first opened. So glad we came back. Came in on a Saturday night, we enjoyed everything. Our server was amazing she made the meal even more enjoyable. The servings are very generous and the seafood was fresh, they went well with the nice cold beer. I recommend the pascado aqua chile. Soooo spicy, just the way I like it!

I must have been here on a bad day. We ordered to go. Ceviche and tostada mixta was completely tasteless. Lots of Tapatio and lemon could not save this. We tried to like this a lot, but it had no flavor at all. Too much imitation crab and very little octopus or shrimp. None of it tasted fresh. It got tossed after about eating one-thrid of the meal. We stopped by at around 7:00pm and the place was empty. That should have been a clue.

Good food, decent prices. Thursdays is a dozen oysters for half the price special. I tried the Ceviche tostadas with some oysters on the side. Overall good experience with good food.

This place is horrible, disgusting and dirty. I honestly believe they make the food at the beginning of the week and serve it through out the 7 days of the week. Ugh — I had the caldo 7 mares and the wife had the campechana. Omg huge mistake, this Caused us food poisoning and all. STAYAWAY

The seafood is pretty great. It’s surprising to find such a gem in a fairly residential area. My 3 stars come from the cold food my party and I were handed. I ordered camarones rancheros and they were cold, along with the rice and beans. My brother is also VERY picky about his rice, and he noticed it was left over rice, as in not fresh. I like the ambiance, the staff, and the location. And that they have karaōke on Fridays. But that can also be a downside seeing as how most people cant sing…

A true Mexican mariscos place. Went for a week day business lunch. We were the only customers… I think it’s more like a Coronas and seafood place. I had the Molcajete Mixto, it was huge and loaded with seafood. Will need to come back and try the seafood cocktails.

Overall this place is more like 3 ½ stars. Happy hr 3−6pm: bucket of 6 coronitas for $ 6.99. Micheladas $ 3.50. Karaōke on Thursdays. My bf had the garlic lobster with rice and beans and he really enjoyed the lobster and regretted getting the half instead of the full cuz he wanted more… I had the breaded shrimp and that was just ok. It didn’t have much flavor and it didn’t come with any dipping sauce either. Beans were bla and the rice was just ok too. Friendly service and cute décor :)

Salsa is very tasty y pica! Aguas frescas are homemade! 1 Dozen Oysters on the half shell $ 6.99 every Thursday(½ half). Fresh, good quality. Shrimp ceviche is good, not salty. Shrimp & oyster cocktail is prepared, traditional mexican style: add your own balance of cocktail sauce, lemon juice, and salsa. Whole fish is prepared well too, but not as good as Uruapan Seafood Restaurant in Irwindale, CA.

Shout out to my boys Javier N, Luis C x2. This ones for you bear… This place is how good mexican seafood is suppose be. The fellas brought me here during the peak of my hangover early this Sunday morning. Their portions are ridiculous good. The shrimp fajitas were ideal, so was the consume(i dont know to spell it) but its shrimp broth with spices. Fries were different but so delicious. It has those regular restaurant prices but you get your money’s worth thats for sure. I wasnt too big on their tortilla chips but its ok. We tore up their jukebox, were laughing having a good time and still got great service. We mustve been there for close to 2 hrs. Real cool place!

This place is a close call. I’m torn between a 3 and a 4 but went for the 4 because of the service. The food was average. Some good, some average, some not so overall, it averages out to… well…average. Cliffs Notes version: VERY fresh seafood, hit and miss flavors, excellent service. In my one trip there I tried the(in order of deliciousness): Fish & Shrimp a la Diabla, some dessert which I don’t know the name of, Campechana Cocktail, 7 Mares, and oysters. The Diabla sauce was awesome. It had just the right amount of spiciness and had a nice smokey flavor to it. I thoroughly enjoyed this plate, especially the shrimp. The dessert was a yam or sweet potato with a sugary glaze on it. I have no idea what it’s called since we didn’t order it. My mom stopped to take a look at it on our way out, asked me what it was(I had no idea) and the lady there just pulled one out and gave it to us. Am I ever glad she did. The Campechana Cocktail was pretty good. It was, more or less, what I expected out of a cocktail and nothing about it really stood out as being FANTASTIC. The only real test was how fresh the seafood in it is and, believe me, it was plenty fresh. The 7 Mares was certainly not the best 7 Mares I’ve had but I wouldn’t call it bad either. It was simply average in terms of the broth but freshness of the seafood was fantastic. The snow crab legs sticking out definitely made a nice first impression. The oysters were definitely the bottom of the barrel here. Of course at about the $ 7 they charged for a dozen, I’d be a fool to expect something insane. The oysters were, without a doubt, fresh. The problem lies in the fact that these are not your top of the line oysters. They just lacked the natural deliciousness of, say, kumamoto oysters. But, again, at $ 7 a dozen, you can’t expect TOO much. Oh, and the chips served were pretty awesome. Greasy as hell, but nicely seasoned with a nice crunch. And, as mentioned, the service was excellent and I never found my self wanting for chips, salsa, or water.

OK, so I just got back from having lunch with my brother. Since it’s been a few months since I’ve been to this spot and I was craving good old happy oysters, we went here. So I’ve upped my rating back to 5 stars because I was able to request for them to tone down the raw onions on the oysters and it came out perfect and absolutely scrumptious!!! Aside from that, of course I ordered my fave, the camarones a la diabla and my brother had the campechana cocktail which was today’s special and cheaper than usual. The oysters were also on special today, a full dozen for 6.99 and half for 3.99 so I ordered some to go for my old man aka dad. I did the good daughter thing and bought him an 18 pack of budweiser from RiteAide also. I still highly recommend this place if you like mexican seafood and if you think seafood is a bit pricey, they have specials for every day of the week ie. oyster thursdays. So if you ever choose to try it, hit me up and let me know how you like it, cuz right now I feel like I’ll be stuffed for days!!! LOL BUENPROVECHO!
