Electric Supply Connection

These guys are tits on a (choose: rattlesnake, bull, rooster)…just useless. He didn’t even greet me, just grunted when I smiled and said hello. When I showed him a picture of what I needed, he said he didn’t have it. So I asked for something similar. He brought me something that absolutely would not work. Then I asked him for the other thing I needed, test leads (for a continuity tester/​memory saver I’m building). What kind of electrical supply store does not carry test leads?
Don’t waste your time coming here. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

I do understand their to-​the-​trade-​only policy, but I don’t understand why, when I telephoned before driving an hour to them, they simply didn’t warn me about that on the telephone. Instead I was told to consult the Lutron website, write down part numbers, and arrive with my list. I did that, but then I was greeted by an obnoxious Filipino clerk who lectured me about asking questions that should have been posed to my contractor. Huh? Wouldn’t it have been more fair to me to have announced the no-​retail policy over the phone? Whatever virtues this shop might have are pointless if they are going to treat people like this. I don’t know; maybe it’s an English proficiency problem. Or maybe staff are too dim to have good telephone skills. Whatever it is, avoid.

This place is the best wholesale house for electrical contractors. The staff is quick and ready to help you with what ever your electrical needs are. This is not a home depot you have to know what you are looking for and with the huge amount of material they have in stock its worth the stop.

If you’re not a contractor or electrician, they will not answer your questions over the phone. I was looking for a raceway/​conduit, and they said I would have to come in.
LIE. Tell them you’re an electrician… but sadly, this didn’t help me. They said they stocked something, so I drove over to the store, and they didn’t have it… So I guess that was instant lying karma.
Either way, fuck this place.

This is not Home Depot. The bottom line is that this is an electric wholesale supply store. That being said this happens to be a very good one. They have a large assortment of supplies but it is set up for electricians and contractors. They will help if you lack knowledge but that is not exactly what they are set up for. I think their prices are fair and they usually have a good stock. If they are out of an item they will really order it for you (which can take forever at Home Depot). The best thing if you go here is to know what you want before going to Electric Supply Connection and ask the return policy before you buy anything.

Catering primarily to contractors, they can supply material for small and large projects. Competitive pricing, personalized customer service!

These guys have basically everything electrical and are much better than Home Depot. They cater mostly to contractors and electricians so you might feel a little out of place but it works for me.

BUYER BEWARE!
DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE FOLKS! They aren’t nice to their customers. They are condescending and if you make any sort of mistake in your purchase, it’ll cost you a 25% restocking fee — which, apparently, is for the 6 whole feet they have to walk to put something back on the shelf! DISGUSTING treatment of customers! (NOTE: I only gave 1 star, because I couldn’t give ZERO!) They don’t deserve any stars! They are NOT stars in any way!

Can you imagine spending a lot of money with these people and needing to exchange or return something?

After a pause,
«Uh, what did you say your name was?»
«Burt»
“Did you say ‘Exten’?”
«No, Extech»
«Huh?»
“E — X — T — E — C — H”
«OK, I’ll see.»
(comes back…)
«No, we have Exten».
«Well, do you have any continuity testers?»
(pause) Con-​ti-​NU-​ity”?
«Yes».
“Wait, I’ll see”.
(he come back)
«Yeah, we got Fluke».
«What does that cost?»
«Uh, hold on, I’ll see…»
«Wait! Can you connect me directly to whomever you are getting your answers from»
«Uh… OK»
(pause)
«Hi, can I help you?»
«Thanks — who’s this?»
«Kevin.»
“Do you have continuity testers? I wanted the Extech CT20, but I hear you don’t have it.”
«We have a lot of testers that all do the same thing… in different ways…»
«I need it to test remotely — connect a probe in one room and take the remote probe to another room to see if it is the same piece of wire… Do you have anything that does that?»
(pause)
«Well, the best thing is for you to drive here and see if we have anything you like.»
«The best thing for me is NOT to spend time driving through L.A., but to find out on the phone if you have it before I drive».
«Well, that’s the best I can do».
«Can I talk to the owner?»
(pause)
«What difference woould that make?»
«Who is the owner?»
(pause) «I’m not going to tell you…»
