Our brand DNA is inspired by youth, artistic expression, customized content and our local surroundings expressed through fashion, photography, music, design and architecture. Each frame is given individual attention and inspected with a precise eye before it leaves the GLCO studio. Every frame is handmade and we take great pride in the execution of our designs and the quality of our products.

History

Established in 2011.

Since the inception of Garrett Leight California Optical in 2011 the brand has become the must have eyeglasses for tastemakers and influencers across the world. The brand has been featured in Vogue, GQ, Elle, Vanity Fair and in March 2014 Esquire magazine Garrett was named one of Los Angeles & New York’s most influential people.

Business Owner

Garrett Leight was born in Venice Beach in 1984 as a fourth generation Californian. As the son of Oliver Peoples founders Larry and Cindy Leight, Garrett’s childhood days were split between sports, the beach, and his family’s passion for eyewear.

Fast-​forward 25 years, Garrett returned to his roots and opened his first retail store in Venice Beach in 2009. Offering a unique assortment of hand selected goods from all over the world, including vintage and contemporary eyeglasses, footwear, apparel, books and music, this store was the first of its kind, combining the knowledge and service of licensed opticians with the assortment and style sense of a fashion boutique.

In December of 2012, Garrett Leight opened its official flagship location in the La Brea quarter in the heart of Los Angeles and is now considered an elite optical experience for today’s generation.

Excellent sales rep. The glasses are very high quality despite being made in China. The designs here are unique.
Be sure not to lose your receipt. I discovered when I received them that the non-​prescription lenses were darker than they seemed in the bright store. Full price for new lenses despite having them for only a week and the lenses still being good as new.
I’ve had a much better return/​exchange experience at Warby Parker through the years. No receipts needed no questions asked. Customer satisfaction at WP is in a league of its own. Hence the 4 stars, which is still good as my indecisiveness, and loss of receipt, is a part of the problem here. WP has just raised the bar a bit higher putting customer satisfaction beyond strict profit margins.

I haven’t been to this location yet, but I have spoken to Jason twice in the past month about a specific pair of glasses that are out of stock. He really took his time in making sure I had all the info I needed regarding doctors in the area that carry their brand as well as specific reps who can help me. I’m super impressed by how detail oriented and concerned he came across. Who doesn’t want to be loyal to a quality brand that also has rad and super well mannered people representing them?

Incredible products but more impressively incredible customer service. I’ve purchased multiple frames from both the Venice and La Brea location and the employees of these stores are the complete opposite of what we’ve come to expect from high end optical retailers. No attitude here. Only helpful people with a passion for pairing people up with great frames and lenses.
On another note, I had a pair of shades that broke at the stem for no apparent reason. GL replaced them with no problems at all. I love these guys.

My partner sat on my sunglasses and the lenses kept popping out. I took them into this store and the guy fixed them in minutes. He is an absolute legend! I think his name is bobby! Thank you! Go here for repairs. You will not be disappointed! Truly happy with his work!

We stopped in to see if I could get my Garrett Leight glasses fixed (which I had dropped and stepped on, bending the arm and hinge out of place). Walking in I was assuming they would at best send them out or charge for fixing and wouldn’t have been surprised if they told me I had to buy new ones. But the guy in the store said, yup, we’ll fix them, just hang out for a minute. Within 10 minutes he has fixed them right up! There is also a fracture in the frame, which he said he could send them out to be fixed, but I opted to keep them for now and maybe send them later. I was so happy to learn they will fix the glasses, and definitely makes way more comfortable and likely to purchase another pair from them. Great customer service, awesome glasses and excellent store!

There’s very few places that deserve top marks and this one has actually earned it.
I’ve worn Rx glasses my whole life and pay close attention to what works, what doesn’t, as well as interesting styles, and of course — aren’t insanely pricey.
Normally, I look forward to finding new and different looks but after I lost my first Garrett Leight frames, I shopped for better frames in every store I could for nearly a week — only to get the same exact GL frames I had before. You just can’t beat them… I know, I tried!
Customer service was above and beyond. I felt like I was calling up my friends whenever I spoke to them and the amount of knowledge and care they have is so much more than I’ve come to expect.
They honestly earned my loyalty and praise, which I don’t hand out lightly.

I cannot believe the price I paid for my glasses… okay, when put in context (of fancy eyewear) it wasn’t much. And they were worth every penny. I was sick of wearing black Buddy Holly frames and wanted something different and hip, but not distracting or gaudy. Let me tell you, I never would have considered a pair of grey ombré frames, but I listened to the dudes working and now I get to reap the compliments.

Had a really great experience here! After my bf got an amazing pair of sunglasses made for him at the Venice location, I wanted to venture to la brea to see what all the fuss is about. Not only do they have great, high quality and unique sunglasses, but the staff is extremely helpful and not pretentious. The price tag is exactly what you’d expect of high quality frames. Me and my gfs went in and made a mess trying everything on but the man working was beyond pleasant and friendly, offering input and suggestions but not in an annoying shove-​it-​down-​my-​throat type of way.

People at Garrett Leight store were so cool and friendly– they walked me through the entire line of shades and made it really easily to find the pair I loved.

This store is pretty awesome. Garrett Leight is the son of the founders of Oliver Peoples so it’s save to say there is heritage here. The store is pretty minimalist with brushed concrete floors surrounded by architectural walls and shelves full of both glasses and sunglasses.
Price is obviously going to be pretty steep at this place, but if you really put everything into perspective it’s not much more if at all to some of the chains like Sunglass Hut and Solstice and this is a local business. The thing that really stands out about this place is customer service. The sales person spent a good chunk of time with me going over their line and letting me try on as many sunglasses as I liked. I didn’t wind up purchasing it at that point, but you better believe when I am ready to add another pair to my collection, I will definitely be coming back here. I recommend this place if you have a hard time finding the right fit for your head.

i love this store! they have so many various options and considering i’m very selective, i’m surprised i was able to find a pair so quickly. we stopped by randomly and i finally made the trip back to purchase the glasses. i was curious to know if i’d still like them after a month, but yes, i still did.
the service here is extremely friendly. the first time i went, they showed me nearly a dozen options for my face. they’ll input your preferences into their computer and when you stop by you just pull that information up and buy away. they also make the lenses here but since i haven’t gone to the optometrist for my prescription i just bought the glasses.
i wear them everyday so spending 300 bucks is nothing for the frame when you consider you use them every day.

If you want top notch quality eye wear, shop here. Every one of their staff is awesome. They’re super nice and easy to talk to, and, more importantly, they know what they’re talking about. They’re not just trying to up sell you; they want you to be happy. I love my Rialto and my Brooks sunglasses, and I will keep coming back.
