John is knowledgeable and gets the best prices on everything. He stands behind everything he sells and never fails in the customer satisfaction end of things. His response time is fast and he has a great handle on anything IT hardware related. He has built many machines for us and stands behind his work. You don’t need the big guys and their aggressive selling tactics when you can call and get what you need at the right price.

Was looking last minute for some DDR4 RAM sticks for a new machine I was putting together. Called all around West LA and these guys were by far the most helpful, digging through their stock and finding me the one last 8GB stick and holding it for me until I could find a second to run grab it from them.
Hope to do more business in the future here!

General Sales has been my provider of choice for over 25 years. It exists primarily for IT consultant resellers, although they do sell to the «IT educated» public. This is not a hand-​holding place for consumers.
I’ve done hundreds of computers and other peripherals from here. John has been beyond helpful over the years, and this is why he’s my guy for IT equipment. Computers are only as good as their components, and since you specify the components, you pick well (solid brands) and you get solid computers. If you go for cheap third-​tier parts, you get what you pay for. Do the good stuff with John and you’ll be happy.
I have never done better with a business relationship than with General Sales.
Oh and end-​users? Buy from your IT consultant (who buys from John) so you will get the kind of personal on-​site support that you need. John’s staff supports us, so that we can support you.

My computer software and hardware sales and installation company started doing business with John and General Sales in the late ‘80s. Until I sold out in 2008, there was no other company with which I did the kind of business John offered. I not only never had a problem John was unwilling to work with me on, but received many suggestions from him that resulted in better performance and/​or better price points than I originally expected. I can’t think of a better relationship than the one my company had with General Sales. I’ve purchased much equipment for my personal use as well. If you are expecting sales people who will show you 20 different pieces of hardware, then don’t go there. If you are an IT person or a retail shopper who knows what s/​he wants, this is the place to shop.

I, too, disagree with Jack J. John is extremely helpful and in the 6 months or so that we’ve been doing business with him, we’ve had zero issues with any of the computers and servers he’s built for many of our clients. We’re a local IT consultancy and it’s nice and very convenient to have a local hardware provider and not have to deal with the big box stores or waiting on an amazon order for parts when we need them in a hurry. Anyhow, we appreciate John’s no-​nonsense and helpful approach and will continue to use him moving forward.

General Sales Equipment is a WHOLESALE place. The majority of the customers are computer IT repair and maintenance. They come in knowing what they want. As far as other reviews are concerned about the place closing, they have been there for many years and the owner happens to own the entire building, which is the block! I don’t think anyone is closing anytime soon. I have personally been doing business with General Sales for many years including having build all my systems, and they have been both professional and courteous. When you go to this great place, just know what you want. You can certainly get more of a retail atmosphere if you go to a retail place As they say, «One should always know who they have the pleasure to have the dance»!

We are a computer network integrator and have been dealing with John and his team at General Sales Equipment for more than 25 years. John is always nice and helpful and it helps us that he is local if we need to pick up a part urgently as opposed to having one shipped out. I have always found him to be above board and honest.

This place is a dump. The selection, store «layout» and customer service are horrendous. I doubt they’ll stay in business for much longer!!!
