History

Established in 1990.

When we started Golan’s Moving and Storage in 1990, we had one truck, four movers and a good friend running the office. We focused on making moving easy for our customers. Before we knew it, we had customers referring friends and family members to us. We started moving folks beyond Chicago and the suburbs, to lake homes in Wisconsin and Michigan, new opportunities in other cities, and, finally, internationally.

We have many customers we’ve moved three, four and five times, from cramped studio apartments in the city to spacious homes for their growing families. We’ve moved businesses from one-​room offices through a succession of spaces to entire floors of downtown skyscrapers.

Our growth was organic. We grew as our customer base grew. More trucks, more services, more highly-​trained Golan’s movers and staff. But our commitment to making moving easy for our customers has never changed.

I used this company and my entire jewelry collection was ripped off. I called and the customer service told me I would get 12cents per pound. This is bullshit. I will never use this company again, ever. If u decide your going to use this company, I would suggest you lock up EVERYTHING valuable & keep it in your possession. NEVER trust strangers with your valuables.

Golan’s did an amazing job moving my stuff from storage in Chicago to my new apartment in Los Angeles. It started with Scott from customer service, who was great. He was helpful and friendly on the phone, answered all my questions, and did what he said he’d do with follow-​up calls and emails. The movers picked up my stuff from my storage unit, packed anything that wasn’t packed for the cross-​country move (i.e. they boxed my vacuum, framed prints, and other things that weren’t already packed in boxes in storage). They communicated the timing of delivery into California and were pretty accurate in the estimate. I didn’t have much lead time and they got my stuff to CA in 3 weeks from my first call. The delivery guys were great– they had everything unloaded in about 2.5 hours, they didn’t break or scratch anything, they moved furniture into place in my new home as I wanted it to be setup– overall they were respectful, patient and kind. I highly recommend Golan’s and their quote was really close to the actual cost, which seems rare in this business. Great job Scott and team!

When I saw the other poor reviews for this company, I was a little hesitant. But, when I looked on the US Government website,
, I saw that their complaint history was far better than the other bids I had received. So, I rolled the dice and went with Golans. The first contact, Nicolas, was very professional and gave a very competitive binding bid. The four movers sent on moving day were efficient, courteous, and very patient finishing the packing and loading the local truck. Although, we were told that the goods might not arrive for two weeks, the load was delivered on the fifth day! The delivery men unloaded everything, assembled the items that needed assembly, and were all very efficient. This move was from the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles area) to Fort Worth Texas. You should have no worries choosing this company!

This was the worst moving experience we ever had.
They were weeks late with our stuff. They lost things. They broke things. Even our desk was totally broken down the middle. It was totally absurd and they were incredibly rude when we tried to get reimbursed. It took many months and they gave us almost nothing.
We suggest strong strong caution with this company!
Also, it seems Golan is a national company and not just a local one. Be cautious with them all!

I would not do business with Golan again. I moved 7 pieces of furniture from a house in LA to a condo in Chicago. The initially lost one of two night stands and tried to tell me that I did not ship it. In addition, they damaged 3⁄7 pieces of furniture as well as one of the common walls in the condo. Once the delivery was over, they were not responsive or apologetic.

If I could give zero stars I honestly would. First of all, I was quoted a price on the phone, then passed off to someone else because the «system went down» and I had to give the new guy all of the same information again, and somehow the price went up like 40%. Then, I went to the airport and left my roommate here to sign for my stuff, and when Golan’s got there they said it was more than they anticipated and wouldn’t take it. I therefore missed a funeral, and a trip abroad I had been planning for FOUR years.
On top of that, I gave them a second chance because I needed to be out, and when the driver called me he was a pompous jerk who got mad when I became stern with him because he clearly did not understand the sense of urgency in my move. He then told me that he «didn’t have to move me at all,» to which I replied (obviously irate) distastefully. I will never use these guys. EVER.

I wish I had looked at Unilocal prior to using Golan Moving to move my things from Newport Beach to Portland. The good part… They showed up when they were supposed to!
The bad parts: They had 3 guys show up, and I wasn’t sure if all three put together had the equivalent of a high school education. I told them what to do and what to take They put a 5o pound buddha in a box with a large pottery of a lion’s head. Needless to say, the Buddha survived. The lion’s head (one of my favorite pieces) died and broke into a gazillion pieces. They said they would take the load to Portland and deliver it. NOT TRUE. They had another mover take it from LA to Portland, then an additional mover in Portland brought it to the house. They didn’t wrap things, so there went my white couches that had been… who knows how they had mud all over them. Then the same thing happened to one white linen lamp shade. When I tried to reach my original contact, he no longer worked for the company!!! And then you try to reach the next person in line… forget it. No one calls you back! WARNING, use almost anyone but Golan. They are anything but honorable!
