The girls were stimulated by the vast array of toys, games and books. Grace Iino also had a wonderful and safe outdoor area that was well supervised. History

Established in 2003.

Little Tokyo Service Center is a Community Development Corporation and nonprofit community-​based organization in Downtown LA and Little Tokyo dedicated to helping people and building community for 35 years. Grace Iino Child Care Center, a program of LTSC, has been open for 11 years. We cater to each individual child providing quality care as well as group interaction with other children of the same age group.

Meet the Manager

Rocio H.

Manager

Rocio Hernandez has worked at Little Tokyo Service Center since 2003, 7 years as Director of Grace Iino Child Care Center, and 4 years as a Master Teacher. Prior to joining LTSC, Ms. Hernandez was a preschool teacher at Plaza Community Center and received her AA degree in Child Development from East LA College. Coursework for her BA from National University was completed in 2014. She has extensive experience with the Program for Infant and Toddler Care, and holds a Child Development Site Supervisor permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Jenni Kuida is Director of Children and Family Services at Little Tokyo Service Center since 2005. She oversees Grace Iino CCC, Angelina Preschool, Make Parenting a Pleasure, and Family Child Care. Jenni received her Bachelor of Science degree from CSUN in Business Administration in 1987 and 12 ECE units from Santa Monica College in 2008.

Our daughter just started going to Grace Iino Childcare Center from October! The staff is very loving and they go an extra mile to make sure she feels at home. They even «helped her» make a thanksgiving turkey hand print craft to give to us! It was such a sweet present. Having to go to work and leaving her is hard but knowing that she’s with her caring teachers helps make it a little easier. The location is very convenient and our daughter is always smiling when we pick her up.

my husband and i both toured this daycare on separate days. the 3 stars is kind of an average of what we thought of it. the street that it’s on is a little sketchy as little tokyo happens to start moving into skid row territory. but that’s dtla life. the daycare itself is in a locked building. it’s a small-​ish daycare so things are a bit cramped and cluttered inside but clean. at the time that i toured, the workers observed the no shoe policy in the infant area. however, my husband said he saw that they were doing this inconsistently when he visited. this is a big no no for me! they have an outdoor playground that i believe had no grass (very urban looking). and to get there you pass through a hallway that had a swarm of flies. so none of these things i personally observed bothered me that much. i think i was more enamored with the idea that it was so close to work! but my husband hated it! he thought it was dirty. so it’s off our list of daycares to consider.

Our twins have been going to Grace Iino since they were 3 months old. It’s been wonderful. The teachers/​caregivers are well trained, experienced and very loving toward all the kids.
They have a strict cleaning schedule so all the toys get cleaned every day and deep cleaned weekly. They have clear plans of action for emergency situations. They abide by all the requirements for teacher to child ratios etc.
They have about 4 weeks worth of toys that they cycle each week so there’s always something fun, new, interesting for the babies to play with.
They have a non mobile infant section that is adjacent to the crawling babies. The toddler section is separated on the other side.
For the babies under 18 months, there’s always been a great mix of ethnicities amongst the babies. Most of the caregivers are Hispanic although there is also Russian. They can Speak Spanish to your little ones if you like which I think is a good thing.
For the babies under 18 months, they don’t have highchairs or bouncy chairs which is great because they are always holding or playing with the babies. And the babies are always interacting with each other. I didn’t know there were different methods of caregiving like this, but I’m so happy that these teachers treat the babies so well.

My child was there from six months to just over 2.5 and loved all the ladies there. As an infant, you can use glass bottles. They have a dishwasher machine to help wash your three rotated bottles left for the center, so you don’t have to prepare, take and wash the days bottles each day. I’ve been told this is a luxury. There is space to store frozen breast milk and food, diapers and wipes and clothes. The caregivers provide an emotionally nurturing and safe environment, and develop great relationships with the kids. Kids wash their hands after diaper changes. The director and staff do a good job communicating with parents about issues and needs. There is always lots of artwork to take home and a big play yard to run around in. Pick up and drop off is no more inconvenient than at other downtown locations. Yes, it fronts a busy street, just like other daycare locations. With current staff I would return.

What a wonderful place! My daughter attended the toddler classroom from 1 year 10 months through 2 years 7 months and she has now moved on to preschool. My 4 month old son will soon attend the infant classroom here. This is a great daycare — always cleaning hands, understanding, flexible, and caring staff, they truly adore the children, they do all sorts of learning and art activities, serve nutritious meals and snacks, there are safe play areas, etc.
To the person who left a low review based on the location, I can attest that the security is very good — camera entry, many gates, etc.
Highly recommended!

Our two year old daughter has thrived under the loving care of the all the Grace Iino staff. They have many great activities, evidenced by the many pieces of art she brings home. I can’t say enough good things about this little gem of a childcare center.

My daughter was only at Grace Iino for 2 months (before I moved her to the daycare at my work) but we all loved it there. The daycare providers really love the children and are extremely patient as well. I know this because my stubborn 3-​month at the time hated the bottle, and pre-​daycare she would only take it if she was suuuper drowsy. After the first week at Grace Iino, she was taking the bottle like a champ and had a smile on her face each morning we dropped her off. The place is clean, they practice safe hygiene (ex. gloves and hand-​washing for each diaper change), and are accommodating to family needs. If it wasn’t for having my daughter at my work daycare, I would have kept her there much longer.

Please, to all parent TLC for your child. I don’t recommend parent to put your child here. This place is not safe for kid to hang out too close to big street and dirty. This place is public apartments for rental building. So many stranger living by next door.
And this place is not japanese school. Most of kid are speak Spanish and English.

Grace Iino daycare was a God sent. As a first time mom, going back to work full time was a challenge and leaving my newborn with others was an even greater challenge. But the staff at Grace Iino made mine and daughter’s transition much easier. They were responsive to my daughter’s needs and bonded well with her. I’m also a stickler for cleanliness and never found this to be an issue.
My second daughter will be attending Grace Iino next year.

We were so thankful to have such a loving and caring place to take our daughter to while we were at work. Emma started at Grace Iino when she was 4 months old and stayed until she was about 2 ½. The Center’s convenient location, good hours, and wonderful staff made the transition to being working parents so much easier. In fact, since Emma is our first child, the Center really helped us with things like how to potty train her, too!

Both of my boys started at Grace Iino when they were about 3 months old and stayed until they were almost 3 years old. They did very well under the Primary Care model. They both came to love their respective caregivers, and I felt great peace of mind knowing that they were under the care of people who understood what their individual preferences, leanings, and needs were.
