Grow Your Own Media was set up in 2007 as a community print shop. Creative and business minded people alike spend time learning and experimenting with the medium while others focus on fulfilling their orders.

This was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I have always wanted to try screen printing and learn the process but never found the right place to do it. Grow Your Own Media made this experience so easy and fun. I am so glad I did it and I recommend it for anyone who has an interest in learning about screen printing. They are top notch from A to Z and look forward to going back and sharpening my skills.

Got a Groupon deal for the 2 hours screen printing class. Tomas is very patient and explained everything so well. We are allowed to stay longer to practice multiple prints too. I’m much more confident to make my own design and screen printing it now after the session.
Fantastic experience, highly recommended to expand your artistic side!

So. Booked a class about a month in advance. I called in a few days before to see about adding a person to our session. Tried calling them all day, finally getting thru in the eventing. After 15min of trying to find the booking, this lady says it doesn’t exist. And apparently the girl who booked (Megan) it no longer works there. After another 15 mins of trying to rebook and get the pricing correct, she says that our original booking day is full! This lady didn’t know pricing, kept asking for a group rate, she kept telling me about some groupon… So frustrated!

Woohoo is right Unilocal!GROM is hands down the best studio to get your screen printing needs done. If you need to create your own stuff on site, it’s a joy to do it there, helpful and friendly staff make the experience easy and fun. Had a awesome time and look forward to getting back in there.

I LOVED my screen printing class at Grow Your Own Media with Tomás. First of all, he took the time to ask what we wanted to learn from the class which was key, because he absolutely FILLED our hour-​long session with information pertaining to our individual goals. I now feel equipped to try my hand at screen printing and screen burning, and will definitely be back for another session!

«I came in to screen some 200 shirts, trying to avoid the mess in my house and dying my bathtub blue for the next few weeks. It was really great. They have great machines, well organized, they clean your screens etc. I liked that they looked over my shoulder to throw in some tips here and there to make my life easier. Nice guys. Nice atmosphere. Very inspiring.»

I ordered shirts through GYOM for my the nonprofit I work with and they turned out awesome! Our staff has been wearing them every day since we received them and I know our volunteers are going to be excited too.
Megan made the experience fun and easy and the turnaround was surprisingly quick. Reasonable price and a local business… I will definitely be ordering from GYOM again!

This is one of the coolest businesses I have ever worked with for anything. I started off by taking the class on Groupon and was super impressed. Like you, I was really intimidated at the prospect of screenprinting. They did a super good job explaining it though, and even gave examples of the different types of screenprinting.
When I went in to press shirts myself, they were nothing but helpful. I’ve also now ordered shirts for them too, and they got them done super fast and look great.
This is definitely the spot to print and if you have good taste in art, these guys can be trusted. They’ve done so much rad artistic stuff.

This place is just Good Vibes. Megan greeted me with a smile at the door, and the shop was playing some good jams. There were people renting space, making their own art, and others taking classes on how to do the same.
Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. But most important is the quality of the work that comes out of this shop. You can see the prints and stickers that people have up on the walls. The alignment/​registration, colors, and feel are perfect. You will not be disappointed if you come to GYOM. I will continue to do business with them.
Tip: Know what you want when you call to order. The more clear you are on your expectations, the easier it is to make it a reality. If you don’t know what exactly you want and you want a consultation, book an hour and come in to talk it over. This place is full of creative people whose passion is to help people make great art!

Don’t buy the groupon deal! I bought the 2hr groupon which led me to believe that it would be a workshop in screen printing. The actual hands on of screen printing occurred for about 15 minutes at the end of a rather dry, irrelevant lecture about the finer points of screen printing techniques (really unnecessary and minute for a total beginner) The total hands-​on time was even less than 15 minutes because I had to share a machine with two other people.
This groupon is over priced fluff. If you are buying this groupon because you think it will enable you to use the studio to do some screen printing you are better off putting your money towards an actual studio time rental. The groupon is a money grab for the studio where they basically get paid to advertise their services for two hours to you. It was boring and I left with very little screen printing experience.
I’m not saying the people here are not knowledgeable. I’m saying their two hour class is a rip-​off and it would be better to just contact them outside of the scam they are working. If you do the groupon you will literally sit there for two hours listening to the guy talk about screen printing theory with a 15 minute practice time.
The guy was also a bit rude as soon as the hour hand hit the end-​of– class mark and made it very clear that he wanted me to leave. Because of his rudeness I will not be doing business with this company.

It has been 4 years since my initial session here. It was as fantastic as last time. Megan and the crew were so upbeat and pleasant and helpful. It was a refreshing. Definitely give yourself some time when you book here. I’d suggest 3 hours so that you don’t rush your product. Some cool things I’m going to do in the future:
1. Get them to print my transparency
2. Get them to burn my screen
3. Pay them for the clean up
Don’t half step. Come here to do your own T-​shirts or whatever and get stoked.

I took the four hour class (awesome!) and on Friday rented studio time about two months after my introductory class. I was nervous about my visit, but Megan is so friendly and has great communication skills I immediately felt comfortable about my visit. Once I got there I felt welcome and got right to work. GYOM is an artist’s dream. Cool people, relaxed atmosphere, and professional so you walk out with new skills and high quality products.

It was so much fun! Tomas explains the theory, technical aspects and finally application of screen printing. I was totally engrossed: the chemistry, the planning, the strategies that go into executing that picture on that shirt– it’s so much work but the result is tangible and it’s custom art, made by you.
Tomas is thoroughly engaging. If Heisenberg knows blue meth, Tomas knows screen printing. He articulates the pressure you should apply to press, he demonstrates the stance, he feels the screen to see if it’s flat enough. It’s a lot of experience from Tomas, and he is such a good teacher.
Megan is as friendly as could be. She took the vectors via email and made prints out of it. Super responsive.
I actually can’t wait to go back. Maybe for my birthday. I think I found a hobby!
