Haleiwa Shave Ice

This post is almost a year late, but they still deserve 5 stars! I decided to write a review because I’ve already started thinking about my sons birthday parties and Haleiwa Shaved Ice was an amazing vendor at their last party. We had their party last August on what seemed to be the hottest day of the year, and shaved ice was the PERFECT treat on a hot day. Sheila and Vic were were speedy in their responses and answered all my questions! We were able to utilize their entire menu AND they even had a personalized picture slide show playing of our boys! (You provide the pics) All of our guests were blown away by the delicious flavors and combinations they were able get. I would HIGHLY recommend them for any event! I know I plan to book them again!

I had Haleiwa Shave Ice truck come to my son’s birthday party today because of the crazy hot weather. And what a treat!!! I had looked them up on Unilocal and they had really positive reviews. Their photos showed the yummy shave ice in the typical Hawaiian style colored cups. So I decided to call them up and my initial conversation for pricing and making reservations with Victor (one of the owners) was amazing. He was helpful and super nice over the phone. They came for 1.5 hours and were able to serve all my guests… some even twice! They had a large variety of flavors and carried the best original combination flavors. My favorite was the POG (Passion Fruit, Orange and Guava) with condensed milk. They had the cute Hawaiian style truck with Hawaiian style music, and a slide show in the background which was included. (I didn’t use that part of the package but it’s definitely a good touch) Just everything about my experience was great from beginning to end. All my guests loved their shave ice and were in heaven!!! Definitely would recommend or would use them again. Too bad my next kid’s birthday isn’t until January… although…may have to come up with a reason to use them again just so I can enjoy the awesome, legit, Hawaiian shave ice.

Flavors I chose were Coconut, Mango and Passion Fruit with Vanilla ice cream. It was Heavenly.

Tried Haleiwa Shaved Ice at the 626 Night Market.
Got the Mauna Kea (Wedding Cake, Lychee, Coconut) with sweet cream. It was so good and refreshing, I ordered another one right before closing time. Yes, yes, fat.
Really friendly workers that were nice enough to answer my questions (what’s adzuki beans?) and offer suggestions and popular flavor combinations.

Well, that was delicious.

Our friend had them catering at their baby shower! It’s the best on a hot summer afternoon, actually it’s good any day: P The shave ice is very fluffy and the flavors are quite delicious if you choose wisely! Make sure you get the ice cream with it and sweet cream on top, it really works with most flavors!
**Just dont get green tea cause it tasted like soap XP

I had already made several stops on my culinary journey on this last day of the 626 Night Market of 2013. It was still hot, I needed something sweet and cold. I spotted the blue Hale’iwa Shave Ice trailer and decided to take a look. After giving the menu the once over I decided on one of the combos and ordered the Kilauea Lava which comes with Orange, Tigers Blood, and Pineapple flavoring. I added Ice Cream and Sweetened Condensed Milk.
After a couple of minutes my shave ice was ready, it was huge! As I was walking to find a place to sit down several people looked at the shaved ice, one person said Wow and another asked me where I got it, that was how impressive looking this thing was.
It tasted as good as it looked and really hit the spot, it was the perfect way to end the eating portion of this evenings activities and a good beginning the the rest of the night.

Mmmmn, Haleiwa takes me back to the hazy summer days when I was in Honolulu…
Anyway, this truck was at the 626 Night Market this past weekend, and I had the privilege of getting to try one of their delicious shaved ices! I got peach, POG (passion fruit, orange, guava), and green tea with the plum powder & condensed milk. It was $ 3 but the serving was pretty big! I just wish they added more of the plum powder :(
I really missed Hawaiian shaved ice, and Haleiwa just brought me right back to Hawaii’s amazing confections for a very reasonable price! I would go again if I happened to see the truck at another event. :)

Their truck was at the 626NightMarket in Arcadia over the weekend and tried their yummy refreshing shaved ice.
They had a special for $ 3 up to 3 flavors.
Waited a bit but worth it.

It offers a good selection of flavors. Ice cream in the middle makes it all the better. Azuki beans are available too. The owners are very nice, but somehow my order was forgotten, so I didn’t get my shave ice until everyone else (at the party) got hers. It was worth waiting for though, and the size is huge.

A friend of mine hired them to come out to her house for a birthday party. They were super nice and the shave ice was perfect! It melted in your mouth and they didn’t skimp out on the flavors either. I would suggest to get ice cream with it and the tigers blood (strawberry and coconut) is delicious! I would say that the portions are huge! I asked for a kids size, although they only have one size, they made it a bit smaller for me, but it was still too much for me to finish. Sharing is probably a good idea. Loved their TV screen of all the Hawaiian pics, made me want to go back to Hawaii again!

While we were at Autocon, it got extremely hot, and I was dying for something cold. Seeing this, I decided it was worth the wait. Especially after seeing the serving size. The shaved ice was HUGE. (Refer to picture)
You can choose 3 flavors with no additional charge so I got mango, orange, and watermelon. It was delicious. I loved it. BIL got lychee and green apple. That was also good. Great experience, and definitely made Autocon that much more enjoyable!

I got to try this place out at the 626 Market this year:
We has a HUGE portion in a flower cup for 3 bucks! You get to pick your own 3 flavors (like horchata, lychee, mai tai), or pick a combo they’ve already pre-​selected. $ 0.50 for ice cream in the center and FREE sweet cream. This was worth every penny. Come with room in your stomach or be prepared to share with a friend!

Like others have said, this is a really good and authentic Hawaiian shave ice!
I’ve lived in Hawaii and this is the real deal! They were at a food truck event in Palm Springs today and there’s was the best shave ice I have had on the mainland!

Absolutely incredible! My taste buds were registering amazing flavors that were off the chart! I’ve never had Hawaiian style shaved ice and WOW nothing else will ever compare.
Their little trailer is pretty snazzy. Everyone needs to embrace technology and reap the benefits. iPads, flat screen TV’s, Bose sound system, custom video slideshows just shows you that they mean business.
…and then they back everything up with a killer product!

We just had the Haleiwa Shave Ice company cater our home party this past weekend, and it was a total blast. A lot of our family, friends, and neighbors that haven’t tried this type of shave ice before said it was the PERFECT desert for the summer time. The people that have been to Hawaii and tried Matsumoto’s/Aoki’s on Oahu like ourselves all agree that this shave ice is as close to getting it in Hawaii.
I’ve had some shave ice before in the area, at another location in Fullerton, and it wasn’t anything close to authentic. But Haleiwa Shave Ice’s is pretty spot on… I dare a native Hawaiian to try this and not say it’s the best version of Hawaiian shave ice on the mainland. Light, Fluffy ice, perfect textured Hawaii shave ice with good flavors.
Pro :
— If you are going to get someone to cater your party, I highly recommend this company. On time, flexible, and served all the guest really quickly.
— The value of what you get for what you pay for. When you see what the portions you get, will surprise you. Most of the other truck service company’s gives you a dinky ‘sample’ size of food when you order it… but not HSI. I would recommend getting 2 – 3 small sizes to try it all out… I do love my POG flavored straight.
— TV screen with slide show. No other Shave Ice Truck that I contacted offered this as a bonus for me. My guests liked looking at the pictures of my baby boy… they all thought this was pretty neat.
— Staff was great. Very friendly, informative, and even though they are not from Hawaii originally, they have the Hawaiian spirit. Laid back, friendly, and treat you as you’re their friend and not just a customer.
Personal Con :
— I wish I had a bigger stomach to try all the flavors, had 3 different types of ice combination, and all of them were great… time wasn’t my enemy, it was my tummy.
Advice :
— It’s Hawaiian Shave ice. Expect to be patient… (5 – 10 min wait for this treat is worth it). Some of my older relatives that tried it for the first time kept asking why does it take longer than a few seconds (as if it came out of the freezer or something)… but when I explained to them the steps required to do an order, and after they tried the shave ice themselves, they realize the value of it. It was worth the wait for them and then some.
— Try POG flavored… I love this one. You can pick up to 3 flavors. but I like mine to keep it simple and direct.

To be totally honest, I thought Greg R. was being a little elitist and definitely exaggerating when he talked about how much better Hawaiian shave ice is over anything we have here. You lived in paradise. I get it. Do you really need to rub it in?
Well, last night I had to swallow my pride and utter those dreaded three words «you were right.» After some good old fashioned truck eatin’ at Narbonne High School, we thought why not go for some good old fashioned dessert truck eatin’? When we checked out Haleiwa Shave Ice Greg got all excited when he saw what I now consider to be a magic ice machine. With the promise of ice cream in the middle, I was on board, but really, what was another shave ice dessert? Well let me tell you! Like nothing I have ever had! I kept talking about Hawaiian festival shave ice and the old shave ice place I used to frequent as a kid, but no, not even in the same category.
I went for the pineapple, orange, and tiger’s blood and added ice cream which was definitely what you should do. What you should also do (unless you are a professional shave ice eater that can deal with brain freeze) is to get the kid’s size. IT IS HUGE! Yes that is me yelling. If you are not from Hawaii it will be something tasty and different you will love, but if you are from Hawaii (apparently) it will totally take you back to some place called Matsumoto or something.

Mmmm! How can anyone say no to shave ice esp if it’s fluffy, flavorful, nicely packed with an ice cream center. And the azuki beans & condensed milk. So good! My favorites are passion-​orange & tiger’s blood (not on the menu but you can request it). I’ve had my share of shave ice — both in Hawaii & here on the mainland & this truck is one of the best out there. See for yourself. Even dogs love it!

The search for the best authentic Hawaiian shave ice in LA is over. Your answer to those cravings for a cool, tasty treat can be found in a little brightly painted truck with a huge flat screen monitor and bose speakers playing local Hawaiian jamz. LEGIT !!!
I happened upon Haleiwa shave ice on my way back from campus on a hot, dry summer day. It seemed like the perfect answer to my sweaty problems, but I was wary at first because all of the shave ice I’ve had here in LA has been subpar… I’m from Hawaii and need the finely shaved, powdery shave ice. Most types here are too coarse and crunchy.
The owner of this truck approached me and greeted me with a big smile. Very friendly! I talked story for a bit and surveyed their flavors, noticing that they offered classic flavors found in Hawaii such as Li hing & green tea. On top of this, they also have awesome toppings hard to find on the mainland– azuki bean, ice cream, condensed milk!!! All they need now is mochi balls. In addition, their pricing was very reasonable, making me a very happy camper.
To my dismay, the truck was CASH ONLY and I only had card. I sighed and apologized to the owner that I’d come back next time, but he said he would give me a «keiki» (small) on the house just to try. SUPER AMPED. I had a li hing with azuki, vanilla ice cream and condensed milk. It was delicious!
Very fine and powdery, just how it’s supposed to be! Accompanied with ample syrup (I hate it when there’s not enough and then you’re just eating ice), and the toppings made it great. All it needs now is the wooden spoons and it’s like I’m back home at Waiola’s or something. Right now they are offering a buy 1 large get 1 keiki 50% off I think!
AWESOME TRUCK! If you’re from Hawaii, this is a must try if you’re craving legit local kine shave ice.

I had them prepare something unique and they made me this one with the wedding cake. I forgot how what it was called (sorry). I did notice that the ice was different than the snow cones. This stuff was more like snow light and fluffy. This stuff is perfect for those hot days in LA.
