Hartland St Apartments

This is one of thee worst places I’ve lived.
* The cockroach problem is horrible. I actually have a complaint with the health department, that is how bad it is even though we have had 6 treatments, we are told we need 3 – 4 weekly treatments to get rid of it. Weekly treatments mean living out of boxes and eating take-​up or pack & unpack your entire place up once a week.
* Neighbors are so unfriendly. The complex gardener lives next door and harasses me because my 3 year old son like to play in the the dirt (even though I sweep up after him). The neighbors also have a system to ensure they can always park their vehicles but no one else can. When the management was asked to intervene with the gardener they said they would and later said they would not take sides, call the police if you feel the need.
*The building electrical is bad. More then half the apartment is on 1 breaker (kitchen, office area, dining room, living room, and part of 1 bed room. You cannot run the AC and the microwave at the same time, or the microwave and toaster oven, etc. We asked if something could be done and were told no, it’s an old building.
*The AC is tiny wall unit and does not cool the apartment. It helps a little in the dining room/​living room. Does not reach the hall, bathroom, or bedrooms. The back corner bedroom gets sun all day and can get too hot to be in on the days its 100+ degrees.
*Parking is a joke. Everyone gets 1 assigned spot. Vans and full size trucks cannot fit without either damaging the vehicle or blocking other tenants in. Thanks to the neighbors, you will rarely find a spot on the street. Also, there is a man who lives a few apartments down that comes into the car port and smokes weed despite being told to stay off our property. My car has also had duct tape placed on it, gum shoved in my key hole, and crude messages written on my windows. The management response is report it to the police or lock the gate. It’s actually 3 gates that all have to be locked to keep people out and the bolts are frequently removed from the gate wheels making it hard to impossible to move the gate let alone lock it. Request to make the gate mechanical to accommodate our tenants with disabilities was denied.
*Management does not want to spend any money on the complex. They do reply to your request but do not get around to the ones they agree to in a timely manner. Perfect example is that it took 9 months to get window screens placed on my windows and that was with almost weekly emails.
The only positive thing I can say about the place is the rooms are large and more then half the tenants are genuinely good people to live around. Since most of us have all asked to be let out of lease do to the cockroach infestation, I would not plan on these great people continuing to live here as the leases expire.

Building Management is available and responsive but are incapable of taking care of issues.
— Cockroaches: Since the first month we’ve moved in, we’ve had a cockroach problem and have had to clear our cabinets and move our furniture for spraying once a month. They have now began spraying our unit once a week and we’ve been unable to put anything back or cook in the kitchen.
— Parking: we have one parking space in the back but there is no street parking to speak of. The neighbors have a system of organizing their cars to block space for their cars and have refused to allow anyone in the building enough space to park on the street.
— Neighborhood: It’s not uncommon for the police to drive down the street and knock on doors. Fights have broken out in the alley and the neighborhood kids will freely come into the yard to thrown rocks and leave trash. We’ve had people leave dog shit outside our window, write derogatory message on our car, smashed vents in the laundry room, plants ripped up from the garden (I use the term garden loosely), rocks and balls thrown at our windows and arguments with gardeners about where we can and cannot be on the property. On several occasions, the gardeners has told me that «you pay for the inside, not the outside.» and then proceeded to use a dirt blower to clean the yard while my son was playing outside.
— Plumbing: we’ve been told the build is very old and that the plumbing often gets screwed up. They’ve had to send a plumber several times to clear clogs, replace knobs and faucets.
— Cockroaches: I can’t stress this enough. The entire building is infested with them and at night you have to be careful where you step. It’s been a problem the entire time I’ve lived there
— Management: They promptly responded to issue but are completely incapable of managing the building due to the neighborhood. It’s been a complete nightmare and I’m counting down the days my year lease ends.
