Didn’t wanna write a review but now I have to share. I went to a couple different stores next to this one an had great customer service. Here the Mexican guy told me after asking for swatches to «call me when you are ready «. I told him I was ready and only needed 2 samples 2 grey tones, could he help me find it please ???. He reluctantly walked in the back FRONT OF ME in a rush and cut off 2 samples of 2 X $ 35 random grey velvets and without saying boo or baa walked off. Well i need 40 yards of fabric but I am taking myself, my current order and my future client’s business somewhere else .
Somewhere where they actually want to sell fabric. Like 2 doors down.
Appalled ! BAD BAD attitude, untrained staff, arrogant service !

This place is great. It is well organized and I found the 50 yds of slipcover fabric that I was looking (80% cotton/​20% polyester and prewashed). There is a parking lot right across the street so accessibility is easy. Went on a Sat. and downtown was busy.

I’ve been going here for 5 years for all my home projects and have spent thousands of dollars because they have great selection. But every time I go there I have to deal with d old guy who’s the manager and he’s an arrogant rude asshole. Last couple of times I went there and I was ready to make big purchases and he was so rude to us I just walked out and went to other stores just so I don’t give him my business even though I liked their merchandise. The cutters r very nice but they don’t have anything to do with pricing so u always have to end up with d asshole. He never discounts not even a penny hellooo this is downtown with hundreds of other stores that r competitors have some customer service skills or go work in a mortuary where u don’t have to deal with people

If you want rude arrogant uninformed terrible service I suggest you call these clowns then they will direct you to their website because they don’t know their own business where you will find the website is inaccurate then call them back and ask questions then be told it’s my fault that they are lazy and don’t want to deal with telephone enquires …
Go elsewhere there are plenty of other similar businesses in the area that know how to deal with genuine enquires .
These people seem to pride themselves on arrogance I have witnessed this first hand in the store when what I can only imagine to be the owner rudely talking to a customer …
If you can’t deal with the public close your doors …
Once again DONT waste your business with these people.

Very wide selection, spacious and well laid out store, and super helpful staff. We were actually headed to a different upholstery fabric store, but bought everything here instead. Lots of sales

I agree with the previous review… one stop shop for everything you need. Two floors big with a wide range of fabrics, drapes, pillows, tassels and trims. They are extremely organized and have wonderful customer service. From the moment I walked in, I had a young gentleman help me along the way. I sort of felt like I had a personal assistant/​interior designer with me.
Best fabric store in downtown. I promise you won’t regret it!

The fabrics I liked were overpriced to me ($ 26-​$ 30). If I need 10+ yards for a loveseat then I’d be paying $ 260+. At that price, I’d rather just buy new furniture.
I settled for fabric I found in the very back of the store at $ 1.95/yard. You gotta take the time to dig around. There’s some ok fabric back there and some are too sheer (good for curtains).

4 stars for fabric. 1 star for customer service. This place has a wonderful selection of beautiful fabrics and trim. The customer service on the other hand leaves much to be desired.
STRIKE ONE — One the second level, the first sales associate who began to help me, as we were walking to the bolt so that he could cut the fabric, leaves me to help another customer. He wasn’t helping that customer before me or anything, he just leaves me and stops assisting me to assist her.
STRIKE TWO, THREE AND FOUR — On the lower level we found a coordinating fabric in the discount section in the back. After waiting for a ridiculous amount of time to be serviced at the cutting table table, when I asked the very rude white haired manager who is reference in several negative reviews, to cut a yard, he told me no cuts. Okay. Whats the price? 14.95/yd. 14.95!!! Crazy when the corresponding fabric that I just had cut upstairs is on sale for 9.95. If I didn’t cut the fabric, then I can take for 1.95/yd. Fine measure it out. One of the associates (not the white haired owner/​manager) rolled it off the bolt to measure it dropped it on the floor and left to help someone else. At this point I’m furious. I ask them to give me the piece but to start the cut after the unusable part (huge hold and damage in the middle of the fabric that ran maybe ¾ of a yard «No…you have to take as is.» No I WILL NOT take as is! You will not make me pay a penny for yardage that is unusable! After arguing back and forth they started the cut after the unusable part. I ended up taking about 4 yards extra that I didn’t need and wouldn’t have done that if it had not gone so well with the other fabric I had cut.
All it takes is three strikes for me, but that fourth strike came so soon after the third and I really just wanted to get my fabric and leave. I will no longer patronize this store. There are other places to buy nice fabric. Poorest customer service of anyplace I’ve been to in the home fashion/​fabric industry and dishonest pricing practices. Spend your money elsewhere.

I agree with the others… we have been talking about the rude manager since we left yesterday– I hope he’s not the owner? He’s a very low class man with no manners or sales acumen, but the sales people were very knowledgeable and so helpful. Their product knowledge is so refreshing and the service is great– THEN, you get to the counter and are required to speak with the insipid tiny gray-​haired gentlemen who looks like he’s been sucking on lemons for quite some time. Rude, arrogant and ignorant, but he does enjoy telling folks how many high end designers they cater to. Evidently, if you’re not a designer Home Fabrics isn’t interested in your business.
Our conversation ended after leaving the place (without a purchase) by remarking that even though we had an inexcusable experience with the manager, we would probably go back for the excellent inventory and great sales associates – BUT it really bothered us to think of supporting a place that would keep a guy like that on the payroll. :(

I’ve been shopping here for over 10 years and Raul has always been extremely helpful. They have 2 floors full of fabrics and trims including everything but not limited to:
–Silks
–Linens
–Chenille
–Polyester
–Sheers
–Down inserts
–Tassels, trims, tiebacks…
There is always a staff member near by to cut you a sample or yardage.
Stock is usually good. I adore the check out girls. Park across the street for $ 6 to avoid worrying about the dreaded meter maids.
Honestly, one of the best selections of high quality fabric at reasonable prices in the downtown area.

This place has everything u could possible need, service was excellent.

It’s too bad that the general manager, Rauol Ruda is such a dishonest crook… the store, the employee’s and the merchandise are lovely.
He knowingly display’s and sells the fronts and backsides of most fabrics. Not all fabrics are reversible, most aren’t. So, without knowing, we purchased one of their more expensive fabrics and may I add… shown in many different settings throughout the store. They show the backside and sell it as the facing.
Not until my workroom unrolled the fabric did we know that the backside (sold as the front) was completely unusable. It was damaged with deep roll lines, none of which came out. Not a problem had it been shown the reverse way. The true face of the fabric was perfect!
We called and spoke to mr. jerk manager yesterday. He told us to bring the fabric back and he would give us a credit. When I showed up first thing this morning, he acted as if we never spoke and was very rude. I asked to have my card credited and he told me that he’d have to charge a 20% restocking fee since I purchased the fabric and intended to use the «wrong» side. I walked him around the store showing the 7 or 8 displays and that he IS SHOWING AND SELLING the wrong side.
He is a crook and he knows it!!! He never apologized rather treated me horribly and asked me not to come back.
DO NOT… I repeat, DO NOT waste your time spending money here.
Rauol is far from a decent businessman… rather, he is a fraudulent crook.

I’ve been coming here for years. Home Fabrics has the highest quality fabrics at the BEST prices around. You can stroll their 2 floors of what seems like unlimited fabrics. There is someone always available to help you once you’ve made your selection or have questions. Checking out is fast and simple. It’s totally worth the trip to get the best. Traffic and parking are always a challenge but stay patient, you’ll be glad you did!

An oasis in the sea of junky madness that is the DTLA garment district. Certainly not the cheapest, but definitely the neatest, most current and calmest shop in the area. At the very least, come here for window treatment inspiration. Tons of great ideas and beautiful textiles to get your creative juices flowing. Michael Levine pales in comparison.

DTLA has a great aray of selection of fabric stores.
This store in particular is the most clean, bigger selection, and reasonably priced.
I’ve been to this store twice to buy fabric to make throw pillows and curtains.
Don’t forget to ask for a bargain if buying many yards.

As I began to waver in my focus, having wondered through countless little fabric shops in the area, I walked into Home Fabrics. The tall ceilings and air conditioning gave me a quick jolt of freshness, and I delighted to find a wide range of home décor fabrics organized in a logical and easy way.
The store’s vast and organized selection gave me the comfort of knowing I’d explored the possibilities (and freed me from my worry that there would be a slightly-​more-​perfect choice just around the corner). I thought their prices were good, the employees I interacted with were helpful, and I got what I wanted.

This review is for pre-​made curtain panels only.
I scoured over 75% of the fabric district. I felt that this place had the best deal for the quality of panels.
Pros:
The workers are very very nice.
The store has a restroom.
The store has modern designs, unlike other places that have old and dated fabrics.
They have a large selection.
Cons:
No parking. (But it is like this for the whole district) I got 4 dollar all day parking across the street.
Not enough stock (I had to come back the next day for delivery from the warehouse)
They charge tax.
This is my story.
I was going to purchase from Italian Home textile. Needless to say the deal did not happen because the owner was out of stock despite promising me he had it. I was on my second trip and already placed a deposit. I also checked out LA Trim and Rugs inc (both stores in wall and maple)
The curtains I bought were 2 panels for 14 dollars (was 15). They were thick polyester (of course for that price) panels that were unlined. However when I put it up to the light it was at least 90, if not 95% light blocking. The brand was called Preston and it was 54″ X 90″ (longer than the standard 84″ for that price).
I came on a Thursday. I live in SF valley and I hate going to La because of the traffic and parking. The curtains were for a property in Bakersfield and I had to have them installed on Saturday. I needed 12 panels, they only had 9 in stock. But at this time, it was my second time in the store. I told one of the workers that this is my situation and about the other shop who made me do a second trip and another round of research.
The workers seemed like they genuinely wanted to help me. They first offered to see how much it would cost to mail the items to me, but it was too expensive. I really wanted that particular curtain so I finally agreed to come back to pick up the rest of curtains. They told me that they would have it for me the next day from the warehouse. Also, I could come and pull up into the ally way and let them know I would be coming for it and someone will bring it out to me. So, I can swing by and not have to pay parking to come pick it up.
As I was getting the bill wrote up by one of the workers, the lady gave me a little discount she said she’d charge me 7 $ instead of 7.50 $ per panel. On my first visit in the morning I asked if there would be a discount since I had come for a second trip and they told me no. They also have tax. I don’t know if I was talking to a manager or not but, that was really nice of her. This is what compelled me to write the review.
I haven’t come back to pick up the rest of the panels since that will be tomorrow. So I don’t know that the promised stock will be there. I will follow up if it isn’t.
That said, I know Unilocal said that this place was $$$ but I did find a good deal here. I initially ignored this store on my first trip since it looked too fancy and large to have a deal cheap enough for me. I’m glad gave it a try.

This is a more challenging review to write because I have a fresh wound from shopping here — but here we go…
This just so happens to be my favorite fabric store downtown. The prices are better than retail, the store is neat & clean and they have A/​C which is so helpful while shopping the fabric district in mid-​summer. The have 2 floors of lovely fabrics and also sell some pre-​made items like drapery, pillows, reupholstered furniture, table overlays and so on… (mostly pillows & drapes) You can’t order anything custom-​made with their fabrics; just take what they have made. I think they’d have a huge business if they did though.
Now for the flip side. Due to my personal experience & other Unilocal reviews I was aware of the overselling of fabric. ie saying you need more fabric than you do to increase their sales. The first guy that I dealt with said I needed 3 yards of fabric for my tablecloth project. I also had no one to make a round TC so he referred me to someone nearby that could do the job. Great! I am as far from a seamstress as they come but I like nice decorator things but not at decorator prices which I why I schlep downtown.
So I go to this store A & G just a ½ block down the street and they can do the job. (I will be writing a review for them soon). So I go back to Home Fabrics and my sales guy is busy so another helps me. This guy says I need 5 yards of fabric. Well now due to the fabric I picked my budget is totally blown especially once I factor in the labor cost. So at this point I don’t know if I am being price gouged or what.
So I have a sample of the TC I am making and we put it out on the measuring table to check and now they guy tells me 4 yards. Geeze — which is it 3, 4 or 5? I will buy what I need but lets get it right guys! We settle on 4 yards. I buy the fabric and go back down the street. OMG!!! I DID NOT BUY ENOUGH FABRIC. Now, due to this error I am forced to buy another 2.5 yards which put this completely over the top. But… if I don’t, I will have 4 yards of completely useless fabric. Due to the fabric having a pattern it won’t match right without that original extra yard of fabric.
So the moral of this story is: if you know what you’re doing — you can find some great fabrics here. Slightly higher priced than the little guys but more under one roof. If you do NOT know what you are doing (have any sewing experience) find out ahead of time from someone other than who you’re buying the fabric from. Do NOT trust the cutters because once they cut that fabric it is yours. This lesson cost me $$ don’t let it cost you.

The selection is excellent and the prices are good. I agree that the manager is a bit of crook but the guys and staff are very helpful. Be aware that the manger will most likely try and force you to buy more fabric than you need, its annoying but seems to be a ploy to sell more fabric. Just say no and pay the already discounted price, its fabric store not used car lot !
Also be aware of damage on full rolls which happens a lot

It’s a massive place, with a huge selection of almost exclusively upholstery/​curtain fabrics and accessories (like tassels). If you’re shopping with something specific in mind, who knows if they’ll have it… but your chances are much better here than at most other shops in the area if only because of the pure volume of selection.
I’ve also found the employees much more hands-​off here than at most of the stores in the fabric district. They smile and nod to check in with you, make you feel welcome and as though they’re available if you need them, but they don’t nip at your heels and make little comments about everything you pause to look at. A welcome break for the fabric district.
