The food is actually pretty good. Unfortunately, the service is unprofessional, bordering on rude. We called in a order to takeout. After picking it up, I realized they forgot to put in the little pancakes that go wit the Peking Duck. When I went back, they said we didn’t order the little pancakes. WTF? I heard my wife make the order on the phone, and she even asked for extra pancakes!!. The guy who took the order got it wrong. Rather than taking responsibility for their error, and maybe even throwing in something extra to make up for the hassle, they argued with me about the order. Seriously??? They finally gave me the little pancakes and I was on my way. The food is good, but do yourself a favor and check your order when you pick it up.

Dined here on the Chinese New Year to celebrate with friends; pretty good Chinese food for the Westside w/reasonable prices and has parking inside the shopping center as well as surrounding side streets. Getting a table was kind of difficult since place is small and it was New Year we got seated close to 8:30PM. Recommend the sweet/sour chicken, beef broccoli and Shrimp egg fouyon.

Peking duck was fabulous. Pork fried rice was fabulous. The soups are great. The menu is extensive. A big pot of hot tea is refilled without a word. This little place is clean and comfortable and the servers are total pros. A chilled quartered orange is served for dessert with the fortune cookies. Perfect.

This is a little gem of Chinese restaurant in the Westside! Honestly I have been coming here for years, but now I started Unilocaling, I have to say, this is the BEST Chinese food in this area, unless you want to drive 1 hour in traffic to Monterey Park and San Gabriel Valley! My favorites are Chef’s Special Fillet Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Salt & Pepper Lobster, Chicken & Shrimp Lettuce Wrap, and their Almond Soup Dessert! Don’t forget to ask for the Free Daily Soup too!(I guess my American friends say if they don’t ask, then they don’t give it out automatically haha!) It is super delicious and reminds me of my mom’s soup! Parking could be a bit tricky if lot gets full, but we usually park around the corner at the spots in front of the furniture stores right around on Sepulveda! All in all, if you crave for authentic Chinese food in the Westside, Hop Woo is the place to go!

Tucked in a strip-mall, parking with luck, Hop Woo is definitely hopping. Though burnished with a ‘B,’ everything seemed A-OK or better to me. Phoned ahead for a To-Go order on a particularly busy night = a smart thing to do. Much to Hop Woo’s credit, they got my order right, and on time, while bursting with customers both in their dining room and picking up. To heap more praise of them, I was grateful they even answered the phone! It was apparently such a busy night(a Holiday, in fact) that I had made a few calls to other places first. Other places were either closed or not answering. To the food: We liked the Won Ton Soup a lot. Tip: Get 2 quarts instead of 1 because it’s a better price, sure, but it also tastes great the next day. We liked the Garlic Eggplant, which had a lot of flavor. Generally, I like it much spicier, but it was still good. The chicken lo mein was very good, though some in our party craved a bit more noodles. It wasn’t too greasy and it was pretty much exactly what we wanted. The Shrimp in Lobster sauce was good, though a bit bland. I would next time try Shrimp in Black Bean sauce. I thought the food was good, and the service very good. I would love to drop by again maybe when they aren’t so crazy-busy, but really, I like a place that has customers!

New York native visiting family and I wasn’t a fan. Great because they delivered very quickly. Interesting take on food. I literally opened the bag and was confused. Tiny egg rolls that have a taste I have never experienced, but didn’t taste good. Potstickers were not good and the wontons were basically chips. Pan fried noodles — I think ramen tastes better. Walnut shrimp was pretty good, but that was it. As my dad put it «I’ve made better in my bath tub.» Maybe because I ordered so late in the day? Not sure but definitely don’t recommend.

There are pros and cons to this place but ultimately I was very displeased with my experience. I ordered my food online and requested it for 4:45pm. They called me at 3:55pm saying they were outside. So yes, they are a quick delivery service but cannot follow simple instructions. They’re lucky I was even home. I only ordered 3 things but they got one of them completely wrong. I called to let them know this, hoping for a coupon on my next order as most other restaurants do, but they were very rude to me and said they will come back and make me give the food back. I said I would just like a refund for the item that was wrong and they wouldn’t budge. We figured we might as well eat. The pan fried noodles were good but the chicken was undercooked. The house rice is pretty tasty. But the egg rolls were disgusting and cold and I’m really hoping I don’t get sick… Pick a different Chinese restaurant. They’re unprofessional and do not offer any compassion or refund if they mess up. $ 40 down the drain!

I ordered delivery from Hop Woo for the first time tonight. I will definitely not be ordering from this place again. The pork chop with garlic and spicy salt was mostly fat, and the meat that actually was there was undercooked. The short ribs in xo sauce were VERY salty. The vegetable deluxe had a nice assortment of vegetables and large chunks of tofu. However, this alone, was not enough for this place to redeem itself. What made things worse was that the delivery driver called to tell me there was no parking on my street and asked me to come pick up my food. I told him that he could park in our empty driveway directly in front of my building and he said he couldn’t find it.(It is visible from the street.) I order through an app, which clearly states my address and directions on how to use the intercom to get in the building. I was looking for a new Chinese restaurant to order from, but this place was such a disappointment. I will NOT be ordering from Hop Woo again.

I’m not very adventurous, cuisine-wise, so I had the beef fried rice. Nothing fancy. Standard Chinese fare, best with lots of soy sauce, which I had to ask for.

House special fried rice is okay. Potstickers are meh. General Tsos arrived soggy, which is sadly something I’ve come to expect across the board, but it came without rice, which would have been nice to know *before* I waited an hour 20 for the food to arrive…

Great place for take out or eat in. Authentic Cantonese food. Lunch specials everyday from 11am-3pm priced from $ 6.95 to $ 7.95. Best Chinese Restaurant outside of Chinatown or Monterey Park. Came with a sweet red bean dessert.

Stuck at home & wanting Chinese the other night. I’ve been to Hop Woo often and really love their Roast Duck & their beef & pork dishes. Online ordering was a breeze & delivery was prompt. Ordered half a roast duck and noodles in XO sauce. Both were excellent but the duck seemed to have cooled some during the delivery. That’s always best straight to the table I guess. Will definitely be repeating.

I came due to a recommendation from a friend of a friend. A small group of us went on a weekend and people agreed overall that the food was quite good. It has been a real struggle to find great Chinese food on the Westside, but this is among the better ones. Don’t let the outside fool you. It’s grungy on the outside, and the restaurant is connected to their meat butchering shop. The alley-way on the side looks a bit sketchy. They do have a parking lot in the plaza, but it says 30 minute parking only(not sure if it’s actually enforced — doubt it). In any case, the inside is simpler, but surprisingly comfortable. The clientele is a great mix of people, but with mostly Chinese diners, which is always a good sign. We ordered 7 items for 6 people, and here they are: 1. Hot and sour soup: Decent, although it was our own fault that it wasn’t amazing because we asked for non-spicy. Get it spicy. 2. Double combo plate: The pork and chicken were good. The only reason we didn’t get the triple combo was because we ordered the Peking duck too. 3. Peking duck: Quite the portion! Came with mini-buns and the duck sauce to go with it. The duck itself didn’t taste exactly like Peking duck — more like the roast duck you see hanging from butcher shop windows. In any case, it’s fine because it was only $ 30 for the whole duck. Quite good. 4. Snow pea shoots: My favorite vegetable. Well done here, with a sprinkling of garlic. Generous portions. 5. Seafood pot: This was my least favorite of the night. Came sizzling, but looked better than it tasted. It had shrimp, fish, mushroom, and tofu in it. 6. Orange chicken: Decent, but I thought it was slightly over-fried and the sauce was a bit too tangy/heavy. Went well with the rice though! 7. Jellyfish: Really great! Great flavor, great texture(crunchy), and large portions! At the end, you get oranges and fortune cookies. Overall a good experience. I think the pricing is a bit high for Chinese food in this area($ 24/person), but it’s still not bad in general.

we go to hop woo for all our family events! They are so accommodating when it comes to big party that we just come here for most of our Chinese New Years celebration! They’re good at family portions so our favorites are the lobster noodles, scallops fried rice, walnut chicken, many of beef dishes you can choice from and my favorite is The almond dessert. Prices are all reasonable and that’s why it’s great for family events! Just be careful. Sometimes when there’s too many family events in once day, tables don’t get bus as fast.

Looking for Westernized Chinese food on the West side? Well friends, look no further than Hop Woo. Loved by Westerners and locals alike. The food quality is pretty decent and priced according to the WestSide. *Get their Lettuce cups. My favorite. J to the Y.

I came here for dinner with the bf, and as soon as we sat down at a table, I wanted to get up and leave. The server brought out tea, and the teapot was dirty(dried tea all over the pot). We asked him to change it, and he brought out a different one that was slightly less dirty. The poorly washed, water and tea cups made me lose my appetite as well. I recommend ordering a bottled drink. But when our food came out and I took a bite, I forgot about everything and my appetite definitely came back! omg the food was bomb! We ordered the crab fried rice and cold chicken with jelly fish. And both of them were sooooo good! The dishes were huge, and we had lots of leftovers as well. i will be back.
