Who could ask for anything more??? I love love love coming here. I have been coming here for DECADES!!! Sometimes it is hit or miss and I fully agree with the reviews. If you buy a pre-made cake it may have been sitting there for awhile. BUT their homemade fresh custom just for you cakes are pretty good. I ordered a princess cake one year for my daughters birthday and everybody loved it. It was kind of pricey though so we have not ordered any more. BUT their sweet potato pie is delicious and their pecan pie too. I normally go down here to pick up multiples around holidays. We have had an occasion where the baker used salt instead of sugar and thought we were going to kill over from the awfulness of the pie, but more recently we have not had that issue. The pie’s we just picked up on saturday are already gone. 4 pies devoured by 3 people in 2 days… very sad. Soooooo if any of you reading this go buy to get some pie… pick me up atleast 4 too!

The lady working the counter(dont know if shes the owner) was really nice and helpful. I thought I’d give them a try because I heard they were pretty good. Wrong! Sorry ma’am, but I’ll be sticking to Torrance Bakery. Pros: Good customer service Reasonable prices Cons: had a lemon taste to it(i ordered white) nasty icing dry average kind of hard the next day didnt taste freshly made

Man my husband has been bragging about this place and how good their sweet potato pie is. I beg to differ… Nastiest pie I ever had in my life. He then tasted my slice and agreed that they changed since back in the day. The crust was burnt as well as the bottom of the pie. The pie itself was too sweet and was stringy and lumpy. They added too much nutmeg that it stuck in my throat. I’m a big foodie & never heard of this place. If the food is good the word of mouth will spread fast. In this case it didn’t. Could’ve saved the $ 9 on that pie and got a pie from the Bean Pie Man! Yuck. Never again.

Well, I am giving you an update on the deserts I purchased for July 4th to take to someones party. The sweet potato pie is always a best seller. I also bought a yellow pound cake which was hard on top. I was very embarrassed due to the guest had told me the next day. So I called the bakery the very next day to try to make him remember me, so that i can get refund or something. He asked, «how much cake was left?» He said, is it over half? I wasn’t sure the Cake was 60 miles away. But I did say yes. And be did offer to exchanged the cake. Thanks for the offer

I actually began my love for Howell’s once I married my husband… He and I have 7 kids together so we visit them quite often. I truly love the taste of their topping I always ask for whipped cream as a topping no matter what color I ask them to make the cake and Whipped cream topping it doesn’t alter their taste like the others that use ICING as a topping on their cakes once they add color it tends to taste a bit bitter. I also love how they can make a cake out of cupcakes. That right there is the most useful and clean way to do birthday cake for a kid n the football team right after a game… I Luv, Luv, Luv HOWELL’S.

I’ve been coming to Howell Bakery for about a year, usually just for a single slices of cake. The flavor is pretty good. nothing special your basic white cake with buttercream. But I like it. Against my better judgement I ended going to Howell to order a birthday cake for my fiancé birthday. I ordered an basic ¼ sheet white cake with fresh strawberries filling and red and white buttercream icing… balloon design with«Happy 29th Birthday Jimmy» Simple Right… I went to pick up the cake and was shocked. The cake was not red and white… it was a weird pinkish– brownish color. The cake said«Happy 12th Birthday Jimmy»…TWELVE.what the hell. so I tried to make the best of it. When we finally cut the cake it had strawberry filling… not the fresh strawberry I ordered. I was so mad because I asked for a basic ass cake. Nothing fancy. I shouldve known better because walking into the place you notice the cake designs are stuck in the past. I. will never go here if I need an cake for a special occassion.

Went there for a cake and first off let me say this, someone actually said«Hello», «How are you?», and«thank you». I even got a «have a nice day» lol. The lady behind the counter was very friendly while helping with the birthday cake I was buying. To be fair, this was my first visit so either I caught Howell’s on a good day or maybe I got someone different than Qt. T. The cake was good but nothing spectacular. The service was like I said, friendly but also quick as there were not many people inside(maybe an upside to being in a shady looking location). The price was OK; $ 25.75 for a sheet cake. Getting in and out of the parking lot and then actually finding a park is a bit of a hassle. Plus, again there’s the shady looking location that I mentioned

Love this place! Bean Pie is my favorite. But it’s too damn far from where I live! I’m in SFV(North Hollywood), so I’ve gotta drive, like…45 minutes for a piece of PIE! But I’ll do it! Cuz I LOVES me some BEANPIE and Howell’s has the best bean pie, for my taste, that I’ve had in So. Cal. It’s not exactly the way I like it but it’s closest I’ve been able to find. And I like the people there. They’ve always been pleasant mannered and friendly. AND it’s VERY reasonably priced. A slice of Pie for under TWOBUCKS??? YEAH! Always get friendly service. Had the white cake with butter bream frosting once or twice… juts regular cake. Wasn’t bad. I like the sweet potato pie as well. Located in a big strip mall… you have to look for it on the eastern most end of the mall.

I should have never stepped foot in once I saw the shopping center it was in. The teacakes were terrible.

The pies are good and I do like the cakes as well. They are reasonably priced and I would always encourage going to a privately owned business rather than a huge grocery store chain. However, there is a level of quality control at grocery stores that you cannot find here. I bought my husband a birthday cake, and upon cutting the very first slice, I found a tiny clump of hair. Not a strand, a CLUMP. Like someone scratched their head and a piece fell in. Luckily, I did the cutting and with quick maneuvering, I was able to discreetly pick up the hair with a napkin before the rest of the guests could see. I have no idea how the cake tasted, because I could not bring myself to eat it. The guests said it was«okay», your average buttercream cake. Nothing groundbreaking. If I bought the cake from the grocery store, I would be able to complain and get my money back. I don’t know if Howell’s has such a policy, but I’m from San Diego and was only in Carson for a family celebration – I will call them, but I doubt they will be willing to do anything without proof. My family has been patronizing Howell’s for years, and they’ve always delivered a good and consistent product. But, I just can’t bring myself to purchase from them anymore – at least not until they start making their bakers wear hairnets. I mean come on, it’s 2012.

Best pies you’ll ever have! And I’m not even a pie girl! They also do custom cakes– from the funky to the raunchy. And cookies, too! My personal fave is the Bean Pie– yes, bean! So delicious and creamy and smooth. Awesome crust(my fave part of any cake or pie). The bakery is located in a strip mall so you got to keep an eye out for the sign. It’s a no frills kind of place but it doesn’t matter… Everyone who works there is incredibly friendly. You can even watch them decorate cakes from the outside as their work area is in the windows.
