Best seafood restaurant in all of Los Angeles! Their ceviche and cocktail is killer!!! It is a little hole in the wall in south/downtown LA and may look a little sus but trust me it’s worth it. I have been coming here my whole life and nothing that more fresh and authentic then the food at this place. One tostado ceviche can go from $ 4 – 5, but from that one you could make at least two. You’re given extra tostadas so one is more than enough. This is a family owned restaurant and it is ran really well. Service is great and it is clean. Careful with the onion and habanero chiles it is very spicy!

This was such an awesome place! It’s a tiny whole in the wall, not much ambience… None actually, but for a foodie! It was heaven!!! If your looking for some great shrimp ceviche this is some of the best I’ve ever had! It’s very simple, but they got all the flavors right! Good traditional ceviche! Can’t wait to go again!

Jesse’s has some pretty good tostadas and tacos if you’re nearby and in the mood for seafood. Their portions are extremely generous, so come hungry! Though Shrimp Ceviche Tostada was really good at first and bursting with flavor, the citrusy flavor got a little too strong at the end of it, with it’s portions being so big. And the Fish Taco has a really nice outer batter-y crisp layer to it(it’s a little spicy so beware!). They also toasted the tortilla for the taco, which was a nice touch that I feel so many tacos places don’t do. I’ve had fresher fish, but for what you pay, it’s pretty good value! Also, it’s cash only. I had just enough money to pay my bill, so I couldn’t tip :(PLSJESSE. FORGIVMEIMSORRY!!!

Food is so bomb. Very generous portions and fairly inexpensive. Their fish tacos are a MUST. 3 bucks really FAT tacos though. Aguachiles are like 4.50. Also really bomb. I’ve been here a few times now but it’s starting to become an every weekend deal. I crave it often now ;/ It is a hole in the wall type spot but who cares when the food is this good? They tale credit cards now!

A friend and I were craving ceviche and after seeing a sad sign at La Cevicheria saying they would be closed until 8/18, I looked up ceviche on Unilocal and found Jesse’s. I went with a tostada with ceviche de camaron and 2 fish tacos. Friend got the tostada with the combination ceviche and 1 fish, 1 shrimp taco. Tostadas came out first along with some extra tostadas and lime. Tasted really good with some lime and hot sauce. Then the fish tacos came out… they were huge! After getting my 1st taco all over my hands and plate, I cut the huge piece of fish in 2 and made 2 tacos out of my 2nd one. Much more manageable. Fish was perfectly fried crispy and the sauce was tangy, spicy, & delicious! Total bill came out to about $ 23. Food came out quickly and was tasty. Portions were pretty big. I’d come here again!

I had been looking for a regular place to get ceviche closer to home in Mid City and I think I have found the spot in Jesse’s. The wife and I tried the shrimp and fish ceviche tostadas, along with a couple of fish tacos. The shrimp tostadas were the standouts. Fresh and tangy like i like it, not the overly salty and chewy ceviche found at so many cheaper places throughout L.A. The fish tostada tasted good too, it was only the fact that they cut/ground up the fish pretty finely,(instead of leaving it chunky), that kept it from being my favorite. The fried fish taco was also on point. At first I was skeptical of the $ 3 price, but once it arrived I realized that the single taco contained two rather large pieces of fish, I realized that it was a very fair price. Looking forward to making regular visits here!

My colleagues and I at work love their fried shrimp tacos. For under $ 2 a taco, it’s a very tasty value. Don’t let the location or storefront fool you, the food is fantastic and a great value. I work at a DTLA car dealership and it’s our Sunday lunch tradition now.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always gotten the same ceviche(the original with mixed seafood), shrimp(hot) coctel, and oysters. This year I actually ordered something different: the shrimp & fish ceviche as well as shrimp quesadillas. OMG, I gotta say that we’ve been eating the ceviche that’s my least favorite now. The shrimp and fish ceviche are unbelievably delicious. The shrimp(& Mariscos quesadilla) are huge portions with generous medium sized shrimp. As long as my family & I have been loyal customers, I can say that Jesse’s has always had great service, quality food, and least but not least the most generous portions you can get.

Really great spot in the neighborhood— everything on their menu is great. The ceviche tostadas are generous and the fish tacos huge. Get the aguachile — a spicy, green pepper and cilantro flavored shrimp concoction. *Cash only*

I’ll first start by saying that Jesse and his family have been in business since the mid 80’s when he operated out of a catering truck open on Sunday’s near Adams/Hoover. It took several years but he finally got the capital to branch out and open a storefront just a few blocks from where it all started. Anyway, as for the food and service, it’s very well prepared ala«Jesse». He best known for his shrimp cocktails that is served in a generous portion all freshly made to order with the finest ingredients, nothing is frozen here. Food menu is typical of what you can find just like in any other mariscos restaurant. Don’t let the neighborhood and generic storefront deceive you from stepping inside. No frills or thrills to expect in décor, basic with a guaranteed return visit for more. Perfect when visiting LA Live, USC/Coliseum or just in passing.

4 — 4.5 stars. Definitely wouldn’t have tried it or even found this place on my own without a trusted friend vouching for the food. The business hours make it hard to go most days, as they close early. We went on a late Sunday afternoon, which was perfect. Definitely a very basic, family-owned, hole in the wall establishment, but the food is very good. It may also depend on what you order, but we totally ordered right. –fish ceviche: sooo good. Ended up ordering 2 for myself(sharing a bit). The ceviche comes in a heaping pile on a tostada with some juice on the bottom. The tostada soaks up the juice eventually. Usually I hate soggy tostadas, but this worked so well. The soggy tostada was so good, because it soaked up the lemon-y lime, light juice from the ceviche. They give you a whole basket of fresh tostadas to use on the side, along with a basket of limes, so not to fret. I didnt think I’d eat so many tostadas, but they give you a lot of ceviche. So good and not at all fishy. I’d get this every time. –shrimp and fish ceviche: my friend had this, and I actually didnt like it as much. There was tiny chopped cucumbers in it, and I felt it took away from the taste. Like the cucumber was too overpowering, as opposed to a nice compliment and refreshing. I had 2 bites and decided the fish ceviche was«it» for me. –mixed seafood ceviche: another friend swears by this. I thought it was very good, too, but I might prefer the fish ceviche. The seafood combination has clams and little shrimp. The ceviche tostadas are all served the same. On a white foam plate, you get a tostada topped with a heaping mound of your ceviche of choice and a bit of juice pools at the bottom. White plastic fork comes on your plate. –shrimp burrito: this was just okay. It was good, but everything else was better. They put a lot of beans in the burrito. I’m not a huge fan of beans in my burritos, as I prefer them on the meatier side. It also came with rice in it. The shrimp bites were awesome(good flavor and plump pieces), but I still feel like I had a bean and rice burrito with shrimp, and not a shrimp burrito with beans and rice. –fish taco: this was so good. The fish piece was big. The taco itself was huge. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. So yummy. All the usual accouterments in a fish taco, and the creamy sauce was really, really good. I would have eaten 2, if I wasnt so full. Interested in trying it in burrito form next time. We also got horchata(good!), pineapple juice(just okay) and a bunch of mexican bottles of coke. The bottles are big. For the amount we ate(multiple orders of the same thing) for 5 people, the price was quite reasonable. We ordered so much after our first, initial order, and the server was great about following our lead. They only have tapatio for hot sauce, which isn’t my favorite. We came prepared and brought our own. They have chopped chili peppers and cilantro you can add to your ceviche. I loved the heat and taste the chopped chili peppers added. Great time with friends for a super casual, low-key afternoon. I don’t even think they’re open past 6pm. Cash only and street parking.

I’ve been coming here for years. While the price point is a little higher than it used to be, the ceviche tostada is still the best in town. At $ 4 per ceviche tostada you get a heaping tostada full of ceviche. They don’t skimp. They also give you extra tostadas. I find that 1 is enough for lunch. This is a no frills kind of place. Just good food. I would only come here for the Mariscos. The new taco additions are unimpressive.

This was Part II in my Find-A-Replacement-For-Dorados Ceviche Tour of LA, and Part II was no better than Part I. Actually, Jesse’s confused me. They clearly have good seafood. They just like to hide that part of the Mixta under a mound of fake crab meat and tiny little mushy shrimps marinated in something that makes them taste like rubbing alcohol. My first bite was pure WTF: how could this be served in a restaurant? All the surimi swirls — it was so prevalent it looked like someone had dumped a tub of cabbage slaw on top, or string cheese — couldn’t take away from the disgusting, rotten, alcoholic taste of the tiny shrimps. But when I probed deeper, there were perfectly tender circles of octopus, big, pillowy, snappy fresh shrimps, and hearty, oceany squares of abalone. They were all just hanging out in a delicious pile under the horror up top. I recommend that they just serve those bottom three things in the mixta. The bottom three things are delicious. But the flavor of the top things started seeping down into the bottom things and eventually ruined them.

When we first walked in, we noticed that we were a bit out of place there, as we looked at the specials menu and went up to see what we should order. However, a young waitress came up to us, gave us the menus and took our orders. We got the mixed seafood tostada first. We got two, and we could barely finish it. Most of my party except for my buddy tried the onion relish that they gave us and after a while, we noticed our lips burning and then saw the orange bits of habanero chilies with the onions. Some of us liked it, but we all agreed that it packed quite the heat. Funny moment aside, it was my first time having ceviche and the taste was pretty good and everything was fresh(I particularly liked the octopus since it had the right amount of chew), but it wasn’t my favorite thing. The fish taco was pretty darn good, but the fish was fried so that it was very dark. Batter aside, the fish itself was quite soft and in nuggets. The taste for the slaw and sauce for the toppings was very good. We also had a caldo de mar, which was very flavorful. It was a bit salty for me, but I could taste the seafood, bell peppers and carrots in it. Place was alright for me. Parking was on the street around the corner and not difficult to find.
