I stumbled upon Jewel Candy by chance a couple years ago; prior to that I was the stubborn, too-tough-for-cute-nails kind of girl. On top of that, ive gotten my nails wrecked a number of nail salons, got tired of nail technicians speaking in a foreign language(and feeling super uncomfortable, because i figured they were talking crap about me…) …ButI decided to give nail art a chance, and after 1 visit, I was instantly hooked. Being a Japan native, I am not too easily impressed by glitzy, 3D nail art; I was expected to have the«Hmmppph, seen that already» kind of reaction. Nope. Just seeing Yuki work her magic and walking out with amazing nails gets me in the best mood ever. The best part is how careful and precise Yuki is with her craft. She’ll cater to your every need– I’ve gotten ridiculously glitzy, over the top nails, and I’ve also gotten more formal, simple nails done by her too. I trust Yuki’s sensitivity and craft, I’ve never left her salon feeling unimpressed or unhappy about my nails. Infact, if you want something done a certain way, let Yuki know and she’ll make it even better than you expected. I also appreciate how she’ll work with your budget too. There have been many times where I’d requested«As glitzy as you can go for $___» and I’d skipped out of her salon with disco ball nails. On top of that, I love how comfy and private Jewel Candy is. You pretty much get the entire place to yourself, with no distractions, no loudness around… I also recommend going with your friends for a treat, I’ve gotten my nails done with some of my girlfriends here, and I had a blast(Yep, getting a salon to yourselves is quite the lux experience)! Oh, and I get to have my fix of Japanese TV when I go here too ;) (Yuki plays the best stuff on her DVD player!!)

I hate to give bad reviews but… during my gel manicure, Yuki cut the skin below my cuticles on 6 out of 10 of my fingers, and they bled profusely to the point where she had to stop the manicure and hold cotton balls on my fingers in order to get the bleeding to stop. To her credit, she seemed embarrassed but her excuse that my «cuticles are weak» makes no sense because I’ve gotten a lifetime of manicures and at least 20 gel manicures prior to this one, and this is the first time I’ve ever experienced any kind of blood when a manicurist has cut my cuticles. I should have stopped the manicure at that point, but she seemed so nice and offered to give me a free art design and a free bottle of cuticle oil, and I felt very awkward, so I let her continue, even though I spent the rest of the manicure feeling paranoid that I was going to get an infection. What resulted is the absolute worse gel manicure I’ve ever had. The gel had a very lumpy consistency in certain spots, which I feel could only be attributed to poor technique. What’s weird is that her own nails were done so nicely, so I don’t know how or why my manicure ended up being such a nightmare. I spent the next couple of days with band-aids and Neosporin wrapped around the bottom of my fingernails — not the look I was going for. The only positive part of the experience is that she played the pilot episode of ‘Ugly Betty’ during my manicure, and I’d forgotten how funny that show is, so I enjoyed watching that.

Through a chance encounter and recommendation by a lady at the post office, I happened to discover Yuki’s nail shop – and now Jewel Candy Nails will be my little monthly luxury! You have to call for an appointment because it’s just her running the show. She’s been doing nails in LA for 12 years and this shop is her baby that she opened 3 years ago. It’s comfy with a single mani station and an loveseat if you want to get a pedicure.(No spa chairs, but I am a petite girl who always doesn’t fit quite right in those things anyway, so the loveseat with plush pillows was perfectly comfortable.) I got a gel manicure for the first time early this year and have been trying out other different locations in Old Torrance – but I really love how Yuki did my nails! I got Spring-inspired cherry blossom 3D nail art done on a few fingers on top of gradation and I LOVE how they came out! Yuki did a fantastic job with blinging them out, too – not too crazy but not too subtle either.(I let her know ahead of time that work was a lil’ on the conservative side so that I couldn’t go too overboard with the nail art due to my work.) This is my third different time having my gel nails done at a Japanese nail shop, and this will be my regular spot from now on – Jewel Candy Nails is a hidden gem!(By the way, my pedicure was amazing too – the other shops skimp on the massage and callous removal, but Yuki was very thorough and spent a lot of time with the pedicure instead of just rushing through it for the gel manicure!)

Yuki is the best!!! I’ve been coming to her since 2009. The best Hello Kitty, bows, stars, just designs period. Nice, quiet shop, only you and her, super fast work that lasts. Acrylic powder selection and gel, pedicures too.

I found this place on accident. I have been getting my nails done all the way down in Torrance. It is a big trek for me to get there. I usually would go on my only day off to get the cal gel nail art. I love to have my nails all blinged out. Finally a place on the west side!!! Super exciting!!! Gel is great because it is organic and does not damage your real nail as acrylics do. Takes at least 1 hour and ½ so you can not be in a big rush when going here and if you are late you most likely will not be taken. Yukki is the owner and her salon has only been open for 6 weeks and I am happy that I found her. She did a really good job on my nails. She cut all my nails down and did a full set, It is a bit on the pricey side. I did full set of gel and a design on each nail. $ 93 I paid, but it should last 3 weeks. My nails look amazing! excited about getting them done again in 2 weeks. I hope to get a pedicure here next time :) This place is a nice addition to westchester, no nail shops in the area. You can not just walk in, you must have an appointment, it is a one woman show here. The salon is super clean and beautifully decorated. GELNAILS=Beauty Acrylics= Beautiful Glitter= bling bling Swarovski crystals= bling bling 3D nail art= cute and fun Thank you Yukki!!! This place takes CASH&CHECKONLY!!! So be sure to bring enough cash for your service. NOCREDITCARDS
