Korean BBQ SoonTofu

No rice sheets. Kept asking for rice 4 to 5 times. Poor selection of items and all for almost 18 bucks. Wanted to try this place out. Probably won’t come here again. Food isn’t bad though so you will get your traditional kbbq selection. Oh well.

This place was a good alternative to the two other kbbq places we decided to skip because of the ridiculous lines. If you want decent kbbq for a great price ($ 18/​$ 20 AYCE) and want a quieter environment, then this is not a bad choice. The service is good too. The only thing is the bathrooms were quite filthy, and it definitely isn’t the best quality korean food, but still delicious.

Great food and goo prices, a must go

This is my not so secret any more KBBQ place. Love this place! it’s only $ 10 if you get the basic plan which is more than enough. My friend introduced me to this place because of the all you can eat egg soup. Fast seating and even faster service. Most places have to go back and forth to the kitchen to get the meat, this place is smart and has strategically placed refrigerators so getting more meat is fast… because who doesn’t like fast meat, i know i do. So if your looking for a great lo key Kbbq place and you don’t feel like paying double at Road to Seoul down the street then just go here.

This is a story of a nice lunch turned sour by shitty service. Me and friend came here and ordered the most expensive AYCE package at 25 bucks each it seemed a fair price for the amount we ate. The meat and sides where good but the service was just mediocre with us having to ask for things multiple times before they would be brought to us and long waits for the meat. Once ready we left a small tip on the table paid the bill and left this is when the evening took a turn the woman at the register actually chased us out of the restaurant demanding more tip! She started arguing with us that we needed to leave more! We said that we didn’t think the service deserved more and that we were left waiting a lot but she kept insisting saying we had to give her more so we told her no and just walked away. Are you fucken kidding me how are you gonna chase your customers down demanding more money? Next time you want a bigger tip how bout you give some quality service.

My coworkers and I have been coming to this address since 2002-​ish. The restaurant has changed hands several times over the years (from Chosun Galbee to something else to MuDungSan to SoonTofu). The latest version of an AYCE restaurant at this location is pretty good. I always leave satisfied and completely stuffed. Compared to the last place (MuDungSan), the side dishes now are a bit worse but the meat is better. Since we come for the meat, it has been a happy change. Service can sometimes be a bit slow but, once you are there for a bit, the platters of meat start coming out quickly.

I visit this place often and have not been disappointed yet. The service is good the food is also good. I have tried the rib tips twice and didn’t like either time. The meat tasted of blood no matter how long I cooked it. I am non-​Korean and I get treated well. I’m looking forward to visiting again

Got seated right when I walked in and right away they started bringing all the side dishes. After that, the service sucked. Food is ok. And prices are ok. But… Even after I paid an expensive ass bill and left a good tip the lady complained that she wanted more tip. Last time I checked tips are optional and based on how the service was. I will never come to this place again. That’s why they get paid hourly.

This place used to be pretty good when its basic AYCE selection was $ 10 – 11. Now it’s a bit more expensive but you get the same selection.
The side dishes are not very good compared to other Korean restaurants. One thing that I hated was the rice cake! It has a very strange, and distinct taste that doesn’t go well with the meat.
The quality of the meat is pretty good. I thought the brisket and pork belly tasted better than most places. In my biased opinion, the un-​marinated LA kalbi takes the crown for the best choice in their AYCE selection.
Service is not too bad.

So sad! Went there last week and went all out. AYCEd it. The meat was not as sweet and tender as I remembered it and the potato salad was a major disappointment. It was mustardy. But the biggest fail was the meat! Should have been sweeter! Boo! I was hoping it would remain consistent! Though, their service was still pretty good. Not as attentive when they first opened, but good.

This place is fantastic. This place is now my favorite all you can eat korean bbq place. Too bad it is in LA and not in the Bay Area.
We got the combo b, which is the middle tier. You basically pick meats from that tier and tell the waiter, and they will bring out as much as you want. There is one limit, however, and that is on the «house special beef ribs», where you can only get one serving, which also happens to be the best cut on that tier, the marbling was great. The meat overall here is superb and the side dishes are ok; I didn’t come here for side dishes.
The prices were good as well, $ 19.99 for combo b. We should of gotten combo b+, which would of had prime beef. The service at times were not that great, example when we said goodbye directly to two employees, no one said a word back in reply. But overall a great place for korean bbq.

This was basically a happy, accidental meal. My friend and I were driving around looking for BCD Tofu House and spotted this place. I said, «Oh look, we can get soon tofu here.» Famous last words. We parked (valet in lot is $ 2) and walked in. As soon as we were seated, our server came by and asked if we were getting the AYCE KBBQ. Before we really answered, he and another server swooped in with about a dozen side dishes. He kept saying what a deal the AYCE was and before we knew it, we agreed to get the level A. That level includes a number of different meats, but they bring out only 3 or so at a time. I don’t know what we got, but we did try 6 – 7 different ones. It was a lot. I’m pretty sure we ate a whole cow. We hardly touched the side dishes so we could concentrate on the meat, although I did finish the side dish with noodles because it was fantastic!
Our server approved of our strategy, saying we shouldn’t waste our stomach space on anything but the meat. He kept telling us to look at the Korean patrons who ate nothing but meat. He was very talkative and made the whole experience fun. The meal came with soon tofu and egg custard and he threw in a couple of cokes since it was our first time. They have rice paper to wrap the meat if you want and we couldn’t skip on the rice so we got that too.
Anyhow, a ton of food for $ 16.99/person. The quality was honestly not bad at all for AYCE. I’d say mid-​range.

Disclaimer: we came at 3 which was much after typical lunch time.
We received amazing service. The waiters gave us all of the meat we asked for on our first round with two giant plates and followed up by returning again and again on asking if we needed anything more.
Both the manager and the 2 waiters were both very nice and made nice jokes. They recommended the 17 dollar deal and didn’t try to push the 19 dollar deal on us.
the side dishes were all different which was disappointing because we loved the original side dishes. But we didn’t count that against them.
One of the sirloin meats didnt have very much taste.
Interesting point: they cut our meat for us. which is either a pro or con depending on your kbbq’ing style. We interpreted that as they were going the extra mile, however we do enjoy our bbqing!
Pros:
quick good service
meat quality was decent.
Grilled our initial grill with onions.
looked a lot cleaner and less oily than the previous owners.
Cons:
17 dollars is a lot of money and the meat was just good.
tastes different than their predecessors.
Ultimately:
we rated them high because of service.

Overall, the meat quality was mediocre. Beyond the marinade, I could see that the beef was turning grey. It didn’t taste bad and I didn’t get sick, but grey meat does not look appetizing.
The chicken was mushy. I don’t know why it was mushy. At first, I thought maybe I took a bite before it was cooked all the way through. But after leaving the chicken on that hot grill for over half an hour, it was still mushy. I left the chicken alone and let my co-​workers kill it.
The service was competent. If you need service, push a button, and an employee will respond.
The place itself looked dirty. Not that there was debris all over the place. But the ceiling was leaking due to the rain. And there seemed to be a layer of grease over everything. They could use a good spring cleaning in that joint.
Would I go back again? I’m afraid not. If you want all you can eat Korean BBQ, there are plenty of other options in Koreatown.

Under new management. Food use to be better. We have to ask for everything more than once. Upside is that the Food is decent and theres no wait. Downside is that food doesn’t taste the same and the service is just ok.

We went here with a couple of friends that recommended the place since I was craving for Asian food. We all ordered the same thing, $ 15.99 all you can eat. Kids ages 5+ are half off. The meats were plenty, they kept bringing it in even though we weren’t asking for more. Downside was that our waitress didn’t know a lick of English and had to go and ask how to say something so she could answer our question back in English. The sides were ok. I wish it was better. But I think I would go back again…

Went there last night and it was definitely not a one star. Went with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Food was good, servers were attentive, we all had a good time. Would go back.

I went out to the restaurant tonight with a high expectation of good Korean BBQ. We got hyped up by the well-​known Korean-​Japanese foodie blogger but we did not see most of the stuffs that she posted at the restaurant toight and we came home so disappointed.
I noticed the last person who posted a comment on the restaurant said «only 5 side dishes» were served to them… Guess what? We only got 2 dishes of noodle and sliced radish for the first 30 minutes. What were we supporsed to do with the side dishes for half hour?
At the end, we had additional dishes of a bowl of salad, kimchi, steamed egg, we only got them just because we bugged the hell out of servers about seeing the next table ordering exactly the same meal with less people yet, receiving away more side dishes! It seemed like they get more attentive service and more side dishes, if you were a Korean. I saw a group of non-​korean at the other table and they were treated so poorly just like us.
We pay just the same as other Korean customers and why don’t we get equal service? This is the evitable discrimination!
The BBQ itself was good but we all felt like we had to fight to get the service. Why did we have to pay someone for giving us a bad service?

Under new management? I think so… This place was the very first Korean bbq place that I have ever been too. Haven’t been here for a while because honestly we found way more better places but we decide to go cheap… (all you can eat use to be $ 9.99.
The all you can eat menu is 15.99. It says it comes with Korean pancake which I was so excited about… But they were out.
Only 5 side dishes which consists of: noodles, sweet potatoes, some white stuff that I don’t know, kimchi and some greens… Uhh… Where is the bean sprouts? They don’t have it… Boo. rice paper… Tasted like real paper…
The service was so bad. I swear they were ignoring us on purpose… But we tried to get their attention with the call button but ours was not working. Lucky me… It’s a conspiracy, they did not want us to order more meat… I guess maybe their running out of the too.
