La Favorita Bakery

Came in on Christmas eve and it was busy up the hoo-​ha, so of course the cashier girls were not happy. I had their mini conchitas in a posada and I loved them, but the were in a pink box. Called that night to place an order like at 8 pm (they claim to close at 10), but they never answered their phone. I also called in the morning and again no answer, so I just went in in person. Line was huge, everyone fighting for the newly brought in conchitas, parking is a bitch, I had to walk two block. They throw your bread into plastic bags and all the streusel falls off and you end up with a bald conchitas. The quality of the conchitas that I had the day before was not the same that I had that day. Sad.

LOVE THE BREAD. THE CONCHAS ARE EVERYTHING. You get so much bread for such a low price. Customer service… Don’t care for it here, it’s obviously not the best, but I’ve been treated worse at pricier bakeries… That’s no excuse… but to me the CONCHAS are good and cheap so that outweighs the customer service to me. Sometimes that’s how it is… You can’t have it all

Especially when they are warm. The only thing I dislike about this place is how tiny it is. This bakery gets a lot of customers, line gets long and it gets really cramped up in there

The bread is okay, the customer service is horrible. Every single time I come in here the ladies are rude and have a really bad attitude.

This bakery needs a lot of improvement.
A few things to consider changing:
— cover bread that is left on the racks
— put signs of where line starts /​cashier
— have friendlier staff at register
I have to agree that they make good conchas at reasonable price. I have been to other Favoritas and this one is by far is my least favorite.

I think it’s unnecessary to repeat that La Favorita has THE BEST CONCHITAS IN THE WORLD.

Place is has good bakery, however it’s graded as a «B» and many bakery are left outside where flies and bugs have access to.
Will request food report next time to know what the finding were to receive a B grade.

I like it and decent price for the quality of bread. Came in late and the bread was not super fresh and the small conchitas were missing a lot of the top sugar coat :/
Parking sucks

You can’t NOT come to LA and stop by for some mini conchitas! The kitchen was spotless and the customer service was excellent! Hope TSA let’s me through with my conchitas back home!

Five stars for the yummy and freshly made (daily) conchitas. I don’t mind driving a few miles to East LA when my family and I get a pan dulce craving.

Good pan dulce, if you go around 4 or 5 PM ish you will get your hands on some fresh, warm, out of the oven, pan dulce.

I came to this bakery recommended by my cousin. The bread is not as good as she had suggested (I prefer GALLO BAKERY) .
Very disappointed. As I was paying, I asked for a box instead of a bag. I was purchasing a lot of bread, which was about $ 28.30. They had told us they charge $ 2 per box. WOW! Really. The lady told me I needed to purchase at least $ 30 in order for them not to charge. So I ended up spending $ 1.70 more plus 50 cents for using a debit card. Wow! It seems as though they want to make money any way they can.
Didn’t feel welcome. No common courtesy.

I am not sure why I originally gave La Favorita only 4 stars. Their conchitas are my favorite that I’ve had in the U.S. This is deserving of 5 stars!

This is a very place to come get bread, but why offer a Unilocal deal and not have anyone there to help redeem such a waste of time for this reason only im giving them one star bread wise it’s 5

An oldie but goodie. The mini conchas here have been a favorite of my family since I was a little. 4 mini conchas for a $ 1. I stop by every chance I get to get some for my granny visits and 1 for me on the road. FYI: always *gently* tap the top of the concha with the supplied tongs to ensure they are soft, this ensures that they are fresh. If they are stiff well then you know they aren’t fresh. Simple right? Stick with the program and you’ll be a happy camper.

La Favorita bakery is near and dear to my heart. My dad used to take us to eat at Tacos Claritas down the street and we’d stop at this bakery on our way home. Yesterday I visited here with my dad after about 10 years and let me tell you — it hasn’t changed one bit since then. But anyway, enough of my emotional story.
Nothing beats Mexican bread from LA. Their conchitas are soft and delicious. Their cochinitos are a bit dry. I recommend the mini conchitas and mini orejas! Wonderful service as well.

I used to stop here every once in awhile on my way to work to satisfy my sweet tooth. La Favorita is a typical Mexican bakery and has a pretty standard offering of pan dulce (sweet bread). Like many other places, the pan dulce is arranged on shelves lining the walls. You get yourself a tray and tongs, pick whatever you want, and take it up to the counter to pay.
I give La Favorita maybe 3.5−4 stars for selection because they do have a fairly wide variety to choose from. Choices range from the ubiquitous and popular conchas (chocolate and white ones that look like shells), puercitos (little pigs made w/​molasses), and cuernos (horns – they look somewhat like croissants but are more dense), cookies, and buttered bread to several varieties of sugared pan dulce and fruit-​filled turnovers. They also sell bolillos, which are similar to french rolls.
The quality and taste of the breads is about average. I’ve had better (El Gallo) and worse (there’s another place pretty close to to this one on Soto that is terrible). Everything is usually pretty okay (and not dry) but nothing is amazing. The prices are average as well for Mexican bread.
I remember service being okay as well; the cashier wasn’t rude but didn’t go out of her way to be friendly either. As far as ambiance goes, most people take their breads to go, so panaderias aren’t designed or decorated to encourage people to stay and hang out. La Favorita is no different; it is plain on the interior. Parking can get difficult on busy weekday mornings, but is available on the street.

Best bread in town! It is always fresh! The conchitas at the best!
My family always gets bread from here. If you’re ever in the neighborhood I recommend you have some of this bread
It is not the nicest looking bakery but it is the yummiest

Ok, so it’s in a shady neighborhood and most always has a «B» or «C» rating, but they have hands down the best pan dulce you will find in all of Southern California and it’s super cheap! My family and I have been coming here for as long as I can remember.
What to get:
Bolillo w/​jalapeño cream cheese (there WILL be a line for these because people will wait for them to come straight from the oven)
Cochinits– pig-​shaped bread (great with your morning coffee)
Conchas (to go with your mexican hot chocolate or champurrado)
Croissants
Bread w/​sugar and butter
Anything you get will be delicious. They also sell tres leches cake and make special occasion cakes. Living in San Diego, I miss this place so much!
