We had a wonderful experience adopting two cats from Lange. Great staff and great animals who are well cared for and socialized.
I have always adopted from the shelter and I won’t again. These cats come from the shelter but they are chipped, neutered, and vaccinated, already. They are also raised with other cats and frequent human visitors. For the first time in 20 years of owning cats I got cats who were already social and confident. I had no problems acclimating them to my other animals or my home. Within 10 days you would think they had lived here their whole lives.
It is clear that the Lange facility is clean and the animals are happy and healthy. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a cat or small dog.

I just adopted a 5 month old kitten from the Lange Foundation. They were absolutely wonderful. I saw my beautiful Lilly online and inquired about her via email first. I was given updates weekly about her health and her availability to meet with me. I filled out adoption paperwork via email, met her on a Saturday, and a few days later was able to pick her up.
This is an organization that follows the rules in terms of adoption criteria, but does not go completely overboard. For example, when I inquired about other kittens at some LA area adoption agencies, I was completely given the run around. I was told things like– I either had to adopt two or more kittens or none, or I could not have a kitten because I lived in a third floor apartment with a balcony (even though the kitten would not have access). These issues were addressed with the Lange Foundation, but were not «deal breakers.»
When I picked up Lilly, I was given full copies of her vet records and medical history. The vet appreciated this very much!
In a city that continues to euthanize over 11K pets a year, we need more organizations like the Lange Foundation. Those of us who are willing to provide a safe, warm and loving home to a cat or dog in Los Angeles deserve to be united with adorable companions who need us just as much as we need them! Go to the Lange Foundation… you will not be disappointed.

We’ve been volunteering at Lange Foundation for a month. The staffs are nice and all the dogs and cats are under good care.

We adopted a wonderful little dog from the Lange Foundation. Great experience all around. If you are thinking about going to a breeder, please consider rescuing first — there are some of the sweetest dogs and cats out there just waiting to be adopted.

Amazing people, wonderful animals. The shelter is a true, non-​profit and non-​kill shelter, that rescues injured and death row animals in LA and rehabilitates them. They are an amazing organization that cares about the wellness of great animals. I now volunteer here, and couldn’t be happier helping with this amazing organization.

I adopted my cat Sonata from here. I observed her in the large cat enclosure happy as a clam, chasing cats. The cats here look happy and comfortable, and the staff was really nice.

A while ago, when I was about 9 or 10 I volunteered at The Lange Foundation for a few months and eventually found a dog I fell in love with. My mom let me adopt her and till this day she is still alive and healthy. But, she’s more of my moms dog now. Either way she’s still a big part of our family and very very loved. She is happy growing old with my mother and her husband :)
About a few months ago I asked my boyfriend if we could get a kitten. He wasn’t too excited about having another animal, as he has had animals in the past with previous relationships but he said maybe. We found a few rescues in our area and visited a few. Most of the people who worked there were rude and after finding an animal we thought was a good fit, they either wouldn’t let us even turn in our application because we didn’t have another animal or wouldn’t let us adopt an animal that was under a year. I realized that I totally forgot about The Lange Foundation! So I called the Lange foundation in January of this year and they said they had a Little Black 8 week year old kitten. We went to go see him the next day.
Immediately when we got there, the people that worked there were very friendly, just as I remembered when I was there as a kid. The lady there led us to the back, showed us to one of the cat rooms where the kitten was and told us how to properly sanitize our hands before entering the room. Immediately we were greeted by many happy cats that were surrounded by toys, in a spacious room as well as a little black kitten that was so happy to greet us and started purring right away. He had a lot of energy and very playful. He also had a short, crooked tail which was a birth defect that was absolutely adorable! My boyfriend and I fell in love with him and decided to fill out the paperwork. The staff was very happy to answer all our questions and explain the process of how they work.
I called the Lange foundation after a few days and they requested some stuff they needed as we are an unmarried couple and I’m much younger than my boyfriend.
I called the next day and spoke with someone from there, she realized that the kitten would be in safe hands and let us adopt him. We came back two days later to get him and he had an eye infection which is very common for kittens. The Lange foundation gave us the proper medicine and showed us how he needed to be taken care of. I called a few times within a week and had a few questions, the staff were very attentive and helpful. After a week his eye infection cleared up and he was much better. I had to bring him back at the end of the month for his last shot and the girls there was so nice and were great! They could see that he was a happy kitty.
We absolutely love our kitten Trouble more than anything. He was named «Ian» when we got him, but we re-​named him Trouble. Trouble is absolutely one of the most amazing kittens I’ve ever met. He has such a unique personality. He is very attached to my boyfriend and I, very cuddly, gets lots of love, loves to play and has tons of energy. He is one of a kind and the love of our lives.
We are more than grateful that we have him and that he is apart of our family. We tell him all the time that we wouldn’t have him without the Lange Foundation.
I HIGHLY recommend adopting from this foundation. They are cautious of who they let adopt their animals for all the right reasons and they take their time with you as well as help you with any questions or concerns.
They also follow-​up with you to make sure everything’s going well. They also have more than enough animals to spend time with so you can for sure find the right pet your looking for.
These animals need good, loving homes so maybe take the time to check it out. I’m so happy I did! Even volunteering helped me find the right animal. After some time I really did feel like I wasn’t going to find the right animal, as well as the right rescue, but with time and patience everything worked out how it was supposed to. There are so many animals out there that need homes and being able to help an animal in need is a one of a kind experience.
Each time I’ve gone to this foundation, I’ve interacted with animals that are so loving and that deserve a good place to call home. I guarantee you will most likely find the kitten/​cat/​puppy/​dog are this place and the process will be more than worth it!

I cannot say enough good things about the Lange Foundation.
We recently adopted a 4 year old shih tzu mix from Lange and it has been a wonderful experience.
The facility in West LA is well maintained and the staff are nice and responsive, even though they’re obviously really busy. Though we talked to a number of great people there, Megan in particular was very helpful. Also, the staff obviously care about the animals. Additionally, their process for showing and taking care of the animals they keep seems to go smoothly and the animals are clearly well-​cared for while they’re with Lange.
They have also provided great after care. Whenever we’ve had questions about our pup, Zillah, they have been very quick to respond, provide recommendations and collaborate. Again, they clearly care about the animals that come into their care.
They WERE choosy in interviewing us, too, which I personally appreciate and think is wise. Our sweet little dog — who clearly had been a companion pet in a home — was dropped off by her owner at the municipal South LA shelter, which has a pretty high kill rate. Given how sweet, cuddly and well behaved this dog is, it is truly shocking that her owners would do that. I keep telling myself they must have been truly dire circumstances to take her to a kill shelter, but I just can’t imagine. They ask good questions on their questionnaire — among them under what circumstances would you declaw. Declawing is a brutal, painful process that is literally psychologically damaging to an animal. It is appropriate to turn away someone who would declaw a pet. My opinion is that if the appearance of your furniture is more important than your pet [or figuring out how to train your pet properly], you should not have a pet.
They also wanted to check out our place and make sure it was safe for our animal — this seems reasonable too. Again, they are clearly just trying to ensure their animals go to stable homes where they will be well-​cared for, which is what they should do. Especially given that these are animals who have already lost a home in most cases. I think their process is good and fair.

Two weeks ago my rescue dog ran away. I was heart broken. I searched for him night and day. 2 days ago he was found by an amazing man hiding underneath a grate on the 405. After they managed to get him out of there they brought him back to me. When I brought him to the VCA animal hospital they told me that he needed surgery. $ 7000. I didn’t apply for credit and was in shock, didn’t know what to do. A woman called Diane Nelson overheard me and told me to wait a beat, she called the Lange Foundation and spoke to Megan. They offered $ 1000 for my dogs surgery. My dog is not from their rescue, I’ve never made a donation to them, they don’t even know me but, they understood that a dog was in need and, they helped. I can’t even express my gratitude to them. They are AMAZING and have their priorities set straight. Please consider adopting your furry friend from them! THANKS LANGE FOUNDATION

Probably the worst rescue I have ever been to. They take good care of cats and everything, but they all really really rude. I get that being apart of a rescue group is really hard and stressful (I’ve been saving and fostering cats and kittens most of my life) but you still need to have a smile and be nice to people who are interested in adopting! I volunteer at multiple rescues and I am always sweet to anyone who comes in, even if they’re just looking to play with the kittens. The cats love it and it makes someone’s day, why stop them? I took my little cousins there (they love seeing the kittens, and I was looking to adopt one) and the people there totally ignored us. I said hi and got a bitchy look in return. It’s like they’re a group of bullies from high school, it’s ridiculous. I asked to see the cats in the back and got a rude snap «you can only see them if you’re looking to adopt». And when I said I WAS looking to adopt, she didn’t even believe me. Just because the kids were there? And it’s not like the kids were loud, they were quiet and polite. I fell in love with an older cat and I couldn’t adopt him because of the rude staff, I just left. I went to west la animal shelter and adopted the sweetest kitten, and now she’s 2 and is living like a princess. West la animal shelter staff are amazingly nice people, go there instead. (Plus, no crazy over the top adoption fee.)

We adopted our cat from here a few years ago. Our cat was in great health and was well taken care of. The people at Lange were super helpful and friendly and let us look around for a long time at all the different cats. It was hard for us to choose, so we had to take some time. Great place to find the perfect pet!

I went here looking to adopt a cat. I love how this facility is set up. The cats here must love it! You actually get to pet and hold the cats while you are here and get to see how they interact. Unfortunately there were no kittens here when we came. I would recommend coming here.

I absolutely adore this place. Their mission, their dedication, their heart, their pets… just everything about them. The people that work here care so much about our furry friends and are extremely helpful. If they seem like they are more interested in the pets than you, it’s probably because they are. They don’t want just anyone adopting their pets, they want suitable owners that they can be sure will go the extra mile for these little guys.
I have adopted two cats from Lange and I have also sent people to Lange to adopt pets as well. The pets here are well cared for. This is NOT a shelter, but a rescue, and you know that as soon as you walk in. You immediately see cats with their own cat trees and toys. Of course they’d be better off in someone’s home, but these intermediate accommodations aren’t too shabby either.
When you walk in, you are greeted with a friendly greeting. Not sure what you want to do? That’s okay. Have a look around. Prior to adopting my first cat, I looked around for nearly an hour until I finally decided on my little guy and no one here minded a bit. They offered help, but also let me do my own thing in trying to find the guy I wanted.
Their application process is extensive, but that’s because they really do want to find PERMANENT homes. You have to love the dedication and care they put into these guys. They have a no declawing policy for their cats and I LOVE that.
I can’t say enough great things about this place. We have three cats now and won’t be needing anymore anytime soon, but should the time come we ever want to make an addition, I’ll be heading straight to Lange.

Julie and the girls were absolutely fantastic! I made multiple visits to play with the dogs, and I asked a lot of questions. They were very sweet and patient with me. I was originally matched with a well behaved little girl named Taffy. Knowing that they couldn’t «hold» her for me, I left for the holidays hoping she would still be there when I got back to California. When I returned, she was adopted by another family. The girls reassured me that I could find another great dog since so many need homes. They were right. I was matched again with the perfect dog that shared my energy… mellow but playful at times. Pooch (now Boudreaux), a Havanese mix, is the cutest, funniest, and friendliest lap dog. I can’t even believe he was once abandoned at the South LA high kill shelter. Boudreaux steals the hearts of everyone he meets due to his friendly and charismatic nature.
All of the dogs and cats that I saw would make great pets. They were very well taken care of and loved at this shelter. The volunteers give you honest feedback about each animal, and I could tell that they really do care about finding the right match for you. All of these animals deserve love and a great home so please check this shelter out. If they don’t have the breed you’re looking for or you’re not concerned with breeds, let them help match you with the right dog or cat that matches your own personality and energy level. You might find the perfect furry friend like I did that you would’ve never picked out on your own. I highly recommend this shelter!

On a search for a new dog for my fiancé and I.
I drove to all the West LA adoption spots and hit Lange Foundation. This was one of my favorite spots! I was on a search for a Border Collie but they informed me they didn’t have one. This place has mostly cats but they have probably 15 – 20 dogs so it’s worth a stop. They are super nice and informative. Although they didn’t have a Border Collie the girl up front knew of the Border Collie Rescue so she gave me their information and hooked me up with more awesome Border Collie info! You can tell they love what they do and want all their animals to go to a good home.
They have 3 parking spots in the front and if they are taken you’ll have to pay for metered parking on Sepulveda. I went during a weekday during work hours and parking was not so hard to find.

I originally heard about The Lange Foundation on the Oprah Show almost 5 years ago and have been volunteering /​adopting pets from them ever since!
I’ve had a great experience with both volunteering and adopting! The staff from the ladies at the front desk to the team working to make sure the animals have a clean and comfortable home are some of the most amazing, kind, and hardworking people I know. I have referred Lange to many friends /​co-​workers who were interested in walking dogs, socializing with cats, or looking for the next addition to their family and they have all had a wonderful experience as well!
Volunteering: it is the perfect way to help, spend time with adorable cats and dogs, and also get to know them if you are thinking of adopting. The volunteer process has changed since I first started but it’s a positive one! If you are interested you can fill out an application on their website. Once you are accepted you will need to attend an orientation and a training class and will then be scheduled to volunteer.
Adopting: I have two of the greatest dogs from Lange who are the loves of my life! The staff have also been so helpful since the day I adopted them until now– I still go to them for health advice or get their opinions /​referrals when I need them. It is great to know how much they truly care about all the animals that find their way there.
If you are thinking of adopting and reading some of the older reviews, please note that the procedure has changed. Instead of going through the kennel, you can now first learn about each dog by looking through binders they have with their photo and story. If you are interested in one, they will bring him/​her out to you where you can socialize and /​or walk them. This helps to relieve the traffic in the kennel and keeps the dogs more calm once they come out to meet you! I think it’s a great idea and also allows you to take some time to learn about each one and not accidentally bypass one in their cage.
I’ve read some of the negative reviews regarding their «strict» adoption policy but to be honest, I am glad they screen potential adopters carefully and that they want to make sure their animals are going to the best home possible and that they will be a good fit for you.
I highly recommend the Lange Foundation– they truly care about all the animals they rescue and do a great job of finding them forever homes!

My friend brought me here because it was close to the sandwich shop we ate at :) We just walked in and entered the kitty cage and played with them for a good 30−45minutes. The staff didn’t mind.
Some of the kitties didn’t want to be bothered and some wanted attention.
note to self: don’t pet their belly or they’ll get mad at you.
I love that this is a no-​kill shelter and you can play with them. Also therapeutic :) wish I could adopt one… or two… or three #futurecatlady

If you’re looking to adopt a kitten or cat, I hope you rescue one from Lange. They are a great rescue that saves animals about to get killed at animal shelters. It’s really sad to hear that shelter animals only get 72 hours to live.
Lange has different rooms for kittens and cats. I like that you can walk in and interact with them to see which one you’d like to adopt. Seeing animals in cages breaks my heart. There is also an atrium where a bunch of cats can hang out and chill in the sun.
If you love cats and dogs but can’t adopt one for some reason, you can volunteer to play with, feed them and walk them.
Dogs are kept in the back in a separate area. I’m more of a cat lover and I highly recommend getting a kitty from here. So many of them are just adorable.

I just adopted a brother/​sister team of black kitties and wow. Lovers.
The morning after I adopted them, I woke up and they were both on my bed. When they realized I was awake, they came up and purred and cuddled and flopped on their backs to demand belly rubs.
Happened again this morning, too.
Wonderful animals, wonderful facility. Thank you for providing such a great shelter for animals waiting for their forever home. I’m beyond blessed with the fluffy lovers I adopted from Lange Foundation.
