LAX Flyaway – Hollywood Station

DO NOT TAKE THE HOLLYWOOD LINE. For some reason, Flyaway sold their contract for the Hollywood line to a shady, incompetent bus company. I waited an hour and a half for the bus which still hadn’t come. Called Flyaway which told me they gave their contract away and gave the number to that company. Some barely audible girl answered, said she would call the driver, kept me on hold for 5 mins, then hung up with no update. Called back (after a minute long inaudible automated recording about the schedule) and a guy answered. He said the same thing and said he would try to contact the driver. After waiting another 5 minutes, he picked up the phone and gave me a bs excuse that the bus was in traffic and would be there in 15 mins. Unacceptable. I can’t even understand why Flyaway would allow this bus line to be so incompetent, but it screwed over a lot of people and I ended up having to take a cab which I should’ve done in the first place. Saw three rounds of buses from every other line while I waited at LAX. This shuttle does not deserve service, it’s not even worth a try. They did not even attempt to give any customer support, and I was pretty patient with them, hoping they would try to help find a solution. I know LA has traffic, but the shuttle should be prepared for that and their customer service should not be so nonexistent and unhelpful. This doesn’t even deserve one star!

This bus driver will not even open the door to let me know how yo buy a ticket. It is a rainy night with all types of scetchy people walking by.
The driver is content to just text and motion to me to wait.
The driver just opened the door. He will not help you with your luggage so I just had to carry my bag up a the bus stairs.
Van Nuys Flyaway this is not.

This is definitely the easiest and cheapest way to get to and from the airport. For $ 8 you can get from Hollywood (& various other stops) straight to your terminal.
Every driver I’ve had has been amazing. The bus has hardly ever been crowded. In the afternoon and evening it comes every 30 mins or so, and early in the morning it comes every hour starting at 5:15 I believe.
It’s credit or debit only and you can pay on the bus, so don’t worry about buying tickets beforehand!

Yay for the new coach style bus! Driver was super cheerful. I live in Hollywood so it’s really the best most adorable way to get to/​from the airport.

Hit or miss. Sometimes they’re on time, other times (like just now), they drive right by you and don’t pick you up. The bus looked empty too :(so, I guess they won’t be getting my business any more!

I had a really great experience my first time riding on the Flyaway. This is a great cheap option for getting to the airport.
We pre-​bought our tickets online but you are also able to buy on board. There were only about 10 people on our bus so it was a quick process.
The bus left about 10 minutes later than it was scheduled to depart, but even at rush hour we got to the airport in good time. It was really nice to zoom by the other cars using the bus lane.
The driver was nice and very helpful with luggage. The bus was roomy, clean and comfy.

This service is great, I’ve used it three times this year and no problems so far, I’ve been on schedule each time. It’s so convenient, nonstop and very competent drivers that know how to navigate through our city’s terrible traffic.

I’ve never had any problems with this bus leaving from Hollywood. I think the majority of the complaints are from the people using it from the airport. If that’s the case, just jump on the Union Station bus and ride the red line, unless you’re too cool for the red line that is. Takes about 15 – 20 minutes to get from Union Station to Hollywood and Vine. In some cases that route might actually be even faster.
We took side streets the whole way there during rush hour no problem. Quick, easy, and only $ 8. I prefer this over the large Union Station bus because it’s simple on and off, no BS with loads of people fighting for luggage.
I think this is another one of the LA instances where people will just complain about public transportation. It’s apart of their daily life, so it come naturally.

Wish I could tell you what the bus experience was like, but it never arrived so I’m not sure if it even exists. A quick search of twitter and these reviews show me my experience was not uncommon.

I liked John, my driver from LAX, but do not understand WHY he had to go on the LONG
ROUTE by way of the l05 and the l0 at rush hour. He said the shuttle can not ride
on smaller streets and la brea would have been just as busy. 2 hours or more!
No Wifi. No plugs. Now i;m told bigger buses will be starting from a different
place on Oct 1: maybe they drivers will do what the last one I did who went
to Union Station did” took surface streets because there was a huge tie up on
the freeway. A little creative thinking goes a long way.

I’ve used the fly away twice from Hollywood and both times were a disaster. First time it was 30+ mins late & this time the driver didn’t even show up. What’s the point of listing morning times if they are not honored… The worst!

I took the LAX FlyAway bus to Hollywood station last Saturday, and overall it was easy and convenient.
The bus stop is easy to find and you can buy your ticket on the bus (credit card only). Our bus was smaller and not as fancy as the other ones who were going to Van Nuys for example, don’t know why. The driver was very nice.
The Hollywood station is ideal if you want to visit Hollywood Blvd, and is really close to the Hollywood & Vine station (red line)
Overall, it was a good experience, even if the vehicle was a little old.

The Union Station Flyaway was MIA at 11pm on a hot and humid Sunday, so I opted to take the Hollywood one instead (I live near the red line in DTLA, so I figured I’d take the «bird in my hand» and just hop the Red Line in the other direction. It’s almost always a long wait at Union Station this time of night anyway.)
Pluses versus Union Station:
— Smaller
— Not crowded
— Better seats
— Better A/​C
— Got to pay ON BOARD the bus rather than queue up outside in the heat
— AWESOME, cheerful, friendly driver with a megawatt smile who actually described all of the emergency exits — something I’ve never heard a Union Station driver cover, lol.
I didn’t catch his first name… began with an M… last name Williams! Most awesome driver ever!

The best part about the Hollywood FlyAway is you’ll never get to ride it. In all my times of trying to take it from LAX, I have yet to see a single shuttle — except for the one that just drove by completely empty, as far away from the pickup curbs as humanly possible.
You’ll almost certainly get to Hollywood and Vine faster by taking the Union Station shuttle and the red line … Or the Green Line shuttle on a rail odyssey. Or walking.
If you do manage to get on a bus, know that the round trip ticket you paid for at Union Station won’t work on this bus, even though they are both FlyAway shuttles.
This entire system is an embarrassment to Los Angeles.

Very sketchy operation. Is this the best Los Angeles can do? The bus is falling apart. It is so noisy from the rattling down the highway that you have to yell to have a conversation.
The driver told us the credit card machine was broken and asked us for cash, but at the next terminal it was magically working again. The website explicitly says no cash will be accepted on the bus. Again, very sketchy.
Also, the buses don’t have their destination listed on the outside. The driver has to get out at each terminal and scream the destination to the confused crowd at arrivals.
It’s actually worse than the city bus. Yes. Worse than the city bus.
We made it to our destination safe and sound… If that’s your minimum standard, the Flyaway bus delivers.

Had mixed experiences with the LAX Hollywood route bus.
Used it twice from LAX to Hollywood and everything was just okay. The buses are loud and make a horrible noise over every single bump. But it only costs $ 8 so hard to complain. The bus driver almost didn’t charge me!
One time I was waiting in Hollywood for the Flyaway bus and it didn’t show up at all. I factored in extra time for travel but I wouldn’t have made it to the airport on time even with a bus cancellation. I called the customer service and it was kinda useless. He just told me the route was cancelled and there was nothing he could do. UGH. Ended up taking an Über.
I’m going to roll the dice and try to take it to LAX again this weekend, will report back on the reliability. I figure since the LAist wrote a piece on how horrible the service is, they MUST have improved, right?!

(update– with a single data point– 10 minutes late for a 12:15 pick up — 45 minutes to tom Bradley terminal 4) Their smaller people mover buses have a super rough ride. I suspect the suspension needs to be serviced. No wifi like the union station route. It is a useful line, and it would be great to work out kinks. They make the union station route look like superstars. Please add live shuttle tracking this is very important when one is waiting, and the bus has not arrived by the assigned time.
The contractor that operated this route «Corinthian» (310) 836‑2222, Needs to address the reports of late and non-​arriving buses. They say that occurred because LAX decides how many buses run, and they have added buses. They could not offer me reliability metrics; tell me how many buses run, or if there are back up buses if one is being serviced. Corinthian/​LAX — It is your responsibility to regain the public trust for this route… please address this issue with some hard data.

I like it! I’ve taken the Flyaway twice now, once from LAX and once from Hollywood. Both trips were pleasant with really nice drivers and for $ 8, it’s a great deal!
The bus is a bit bumpy and «rattle-​y» which is why it didn’t get 5 stars but I’ll definitely use this service again.

At LAX we got out to the shuttle area around 8:17, two minutes after the scheduled 8:15. D’oh!
Oh well, I had taken the Union Station shuttle before, and between doing that shuttle and then taking the Ride Line, I might as well just wait for the 9:15 shuttle.
The shuttle doesn’t roll around until after 10pm! We saw 8 — 8! — Van Nuys shuttles roll through. 6 Union Station. 2 Westwood. And even one going to effin’ Santa Barbara (different bus service, but come on). And not one Hollywood the whole time. We watched people come wait for it, and then ultimately get on the Union Station one in defeat.
So that means, even if the 8:15 was on time (very questionable) it took them almost 2 hours to do a round trip. I’m guessing they literally have one shuttle that goes back and forth, which is absolutely asinine considering the the population density of and tourism in Hollywood. It didn’t even make sense. It was well after rush hour and we experienced no traffic. Took us less than 30 minutes to get to Hollywood. And if there is traffic the dude should be looking at a traffic map and take routes alternative to the freeway.
I give it two stars because the driver was entertaining and I did make it home. Eventually. Worth the price? Not really.
I’m glad I’ve never tried to take this shuttle TO the airport and I know better than to ever do so. I’ll pay the extra $ 20 to a friend or a Primetime Shuttle.

I was quite hesitant to try Flyaway/​Hollywood after all the reviews I read prior. However, I took the risk due to lack of:
–money for a cab/​driver/​long-​term parking fees
–proper subway in this city of Los Angeles
–friends
and I’m happy to say my experience was a positive one!
Had a Tuesday 9:40am flight out so I figured the 7:15am* would be best. Driver was already parked as I walked up around 7am. With about 5 people on board total, he went around taking our credit/​debit payments (you canNOT purchase round trip tickets) and this generated a small receipt. We left at 7:15am on the dot.
Traffic was a little slow on the 101S, but he drove like a bat out of hell once we hit the 110S and the 105. Even though the roads were fairly clear by then, I wasn’t the least bit worried about being late (seat belts are provided-​and were used-​just so you know).
Apparently I was on a new shuttle bus, according to a frequent user of Flyaway, so that was cool. It was clean and spacious, which was certainly enough for me, and much more so than that plane you’ll be sitting on soon enough (hush, you first class people)!
Return trip was also great; got in at Saturday, 9:45am and was in time to watch all the Flyaways come from the other cities, and then Hollywood rolled right up on time. The only frustrating part about returning is you have to allow extra time for stops at Terminals 2 – 7, which is understandable (it even says so on their site). Once we hit the road, I was back in Hollywood 40 minutes later. This driver was much more friendlier-​dare I say Happy-​and he played some fun music. There were a couple of tourists up front taking snapshots of everything (including our lovely smog) but he was very courteous to them; even inching up at stoplights so they could get a better picture of the Hollywood, sign, etc. Although the first driver was cool, this one was a standout. Wish I had gotten his name.
Debit/​credit card only, NO CASH.
I will be using Flyaway/​Hollywood again when I take another trip/​am over this way.

–Westwood ($ 10) is only on the hour.
