Dax & Sarah’s Lindy Loft is Los Angeles’s full time Swing Era Dance Studio offering classes, social dancing, and practice space to people looking to Swing Dance. Learn styles such as Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, Tap, Authentic Jazz Dancing and JitterFit. Learn to dance like they did in the old movies and discover the latest trends in the international swing dance scene.

The Lindy Loft is equally a culture center as much as it is a dance studio. In addition to dancing, you will learn about vintage fashion, jazz music and jazz dance history. Best of all you will join an international scene of amazing people dancing world-​wide that will unlock a robust travel network.

The Lindy Loft is also available as a rental space for private functions, dinner shows, filming, photo shoots, private lessons, art walk showings and creative events.

History

Established in 2013.

The Lindy Loft is built on Dax & Sarah’s 15 years teaching experience, headlining over 30 workshops a year world-​wide. Being two of the knowledgable teachers, best dressed dancers and champion competitors, they are a premium resource of information on Swing Dancing, Music and Culture. All of this knowledge has gone into creating a space where swing dancing can thrive in Los Angeles.

Business Owner

Dax and Sarah Hock are two of the worlds most renowned swing dancers. They headline in over 30 international workshops a year, have been featured on Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance and played the leads in the feature film SwingX. Dax Hock is also the founder of RhythmJuice which has been claimed by many to be the most effective way to improve your swing dancing.

Dax and Sarah are well known for their phenomenal teaching skills and ability to help dancers reach their full potential. As dancers, they move with grace and improvise freely to clearly reflect the music.

Pros: It’s a beautiful loft. Dax is easy going and has an eye for technical nits. I really liked how he makes students feel comfortable, and confident. Dax provides TONS of positive feedback, which is so crucial when you’re stomping around feeling like more of a clumsy elephant than a dancer. The classes are positive, friendly, and very affordable. I would totally go here for technique classes, fancy foot work, and styling. I like how the lessons seem formatted to be half technique, half new moves.
Before I get into cons, here’s my background: I took years of ballroom lessons. About 4 or 5 years of Lindy Hop, 1 year of Hustle. Salsa, Cha Cha, Night Club 2 Step, Fox Trot, Steppin ala R. Kelly (Steppin is THE BEST). I’m not a great ballroom dancer, but more of an avid learner and connessuer of lessons. I went here because my boyfriend wanted to learn Lindy.
SO!
Cons: they’re fantastic dancers and taught around the world, I get it, but they’re not so good with teaching beginners. You got to compare them with other instructors to understand this. Good beginner instructors break it down a lot more and keep it incredibly structured. For example: ladies turn from high hold hand position. They taught us how to do it, but left out how to get into the high hold position.
I only took one month of classes and two privates, but it was kind of off putting that every class started late. Every. Class. I would suggest people budget an extra half hour to accomodate for their schedule.
Lastly, I think it’s kind of deceptive to advertise «Dax and Sarah» when it’s really just Dax and helpers. One of my privates was from neither Dax nor Sarah but a person with less ballroom experience than me who kind of conflicted with Dax’s instruction.

I booked the «Dance in a Day» class for me and my fiancée and we had a blast. Dax and Sarah are both amazing teachers and they create a relaxed environment to learn. They teach the building blocks for swing, rather than teaching a specific routine, so by the end I felt like we learned a ton and could really have some fun combining all the things they taught us. This is a great intro to swing and a fun way to spend an afternoon!

I still can’t believe I get to go here. I have a private instruction package with Dax and Sarah that is incredibly affordable, even as a college student. I am literally getting instruction from internationally renowned teachers. They are patient and kind instructors and engaging teachers. Their other instructor Lucie is also really friendly!
Their public swing dance events once a month feature incredible live bands, and they’re always packed (which makes the dance floor a challenge, but it’s great that so many people come). Be warned, it gets really hot in there, so bring some water and a towel.

My first time here to take the «learn to swing dance in a day» My friend and I had an amazing time. Dax and sarah are so nice and are very personable and great at what they do! I feel I was able to get alot out of this class and am looking forward to taking more lessons. I will refer all of my friends here. They have a very spacious loft its easy to find.

I used to think that groupons were for places with terrible services who needed a sale as their last hope… but this place proved me wrong! My mom got me the swing dance lessons as a Christmas present and my husband and I had such a blast! The dances they teach are fun and the breakdown everything simply (which is what we needed). In college, someone tried to teach me the Lindy Hop and I could not get it… until Dax broke it down for me. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn all forms of swing dancing!

It sounds like many of the reviews come from people who are already advanced dancers and receive further instruction from Dax and Sarah. I am not such a dancer. I hadn’t really danced at all. Then a friend brought me to their Friday social. Now I’m taking lessons once or twice a week. They make it incredibly accessible to new people as well as challenging advanced dancers. I’m having a blast with my new hobby.
The space is excellent. I also really like the location downtown.

Rarely do I reveal my regal beagle spots. But this is an exception, this spot distinguishes itself from all other swing dance venues. It has top of the class dance floor, world famous instructors/​owners and kick-​ass live bands almost every Friday.
What’s more surprising is the crowds it draws, mixed from both the East and West side. This is the perfect combination creating the absolute best ambiance for Friday nights. Most of the patrons are approachable and friendly, all egos left outside. Beginners welcome to your new addiction.
The studio is located on the top floor, giving access to a gorgeous and picturesque view of downtown LA. Conveniently located in the heart of LA, close to awesome bars that you can hit prior to tearing up the floor. The hood has definitely transformed into a trendy spot since the swing kids moved in.
For those on the fence, hesitate no more peeps, go right in and flow to the beat. Classes are offered during the week; these instructors will make you look good. Plus how often can you say you danced the night away on top of the world (well not literal.) So put on your best and fedora hats, Friday nights just got better.

What a wonderful space for dancing in LA! The Lindy Loft owners Dax and Sarah know what they’re doing, and they’ll be sure to show you a good time if you come for classes or dancing.
We were there for dancing to live music and while the space might be too popular for its own good, we had a fabulous time on the dance floor. Can’t wait to return on my next visit!

The most notable thing about Lindy Loft, besides looking like the apartment building from Wreck-​it-​Ralph? That would be their wood floor. They found the hallowed middle ground between sticky and slick according to my leather bottomed shoes. You can pull your fancy V-​slides and circle slides while I imagine still staying grounded for a crazy aerial (don’t throw your partner out the window).
We did have some trouble getting in the other night (man your stations, door people), but once we were in we followed the signs leading to the loft. Other bonus treat: live music about two times a month. It’s a small space, so be sure to pre-​book beforehand. Check them out when you have the chance.

Several weeks ago I had the lovely opportunity to come here with my school’s swing club! Nestled in the heart of Downtown LA, the Lindy Loft is a nifty space on the 10th floor of an apartment complex-​and Dax and Sarah are so cool they even put up some of the walls and dance floor themselves. They are amazing dancers and teachers and, like others have said, wonderful people and I look forward to going back whenever I can :) (It also helps that I won the raffle for free entry the week after!)
Although I’ve only learned Lindy Hop for about a year, I’ve seen a fair share of dance studios and I must say I really like the atmosphere of the Lindy Loft. From the repurposed furniture to the fantastic view from the top of the building, there’s really no other place like it. Plus the floor is super springy which is kind to one’s feet after hours of social dancing.
Also, congrats to Dax and Sarah on the soon-​to-​be birth of their baby!

Los Angeles dancers should be extremely excited! This new dance studio — conveniently located for everyone in downtown Los Angeles — is in one word, AWESOME. Dax & Sarah are amazing instructors, dancers, and just in general, great people. They have been masters of their craft for the last 15+ years and after traveling to teach non-​stop in Europe and Canada and Asia have finally opened up this full time swing-​dance studio! It’s very fortunate to have Dax and Sarah in our backyard because as dancers go, they are at the top of their craft. Not to mention that their instruction is extremely motivational and inspirational; you can truly see that they are passionate about their art. Their method of teaching is very easy to understand, highly relatable, and no matter what level dancer you are (beginner or advanced), you will always learn a lot from them.

My lindy hop has improved immensely from their guidance and feedback, which they measure out carefully depending on your level and goals.
