I think i was the first customer they ever had. But i really didnt want to be the first to give them one star. Plain mac was worse than a frozen Lean Cuisine entrée. Buffalo was bland. Gourmet was weird. Sweet potato in mac n cheese? Way too starchy! Mac n Roll, if youre reading this– we all love mac n cheese. Please revise your recipe for mac n cheese’s sake! But i think you have a great concept going. Keep on truckin’!

This is my first negative review on Unilocal.I don’t really like being judgy because I think everyone has different tastes, but my experience at Mac’n’Roll was just bleh. The couple who was working in the truck weren’t necessarily rude, but I got the distinct feeling that I was bothering them with my order, maybe they were planning on a quiet evening and I bothered them since I was the only customer the entire time I was there? I decided on the buffalo chicken mac with blue cheese crumbles(I think it was $ 1 extra). It took about 5 minutes to get my order, not bad. They gave me my mac and cheese in a brown paper bag to go and it was suspiciously light for the almost $ 9 I just paid(mac+blue cheese+tax). I didn’t open it till I got home and was a little aghast that I had spent that much money for what was essentially a side dish of macaroni and cheese, with what must have been a «pinch» of blue cheese crumbles. It didn’t taste bad, but it just wasn’t anything special, I have no problem paying a good price for something worth it, but this just wasn’t. Especially since i can make a pan of mac and cheese that is better for about $ 10. I feel like this truck really could have been amazing, especially with the steep food truck competition that is out there. I hope they revamp and come back stronger, cheaper, and tastier!

I had the mac roll, which I thought was actually kind of interesting. The idea was great and I could see the potential, but the execution was not there. There was not enough Mac in the roll and I could barely taste any cheese or flavor other than the wrap! It was a bit of a disappointment. I would have loved it if there was more flavor and cheese!

I went to this truck cause mac and cheese always hold a place in my arteries. But this mac and cheese was lacking in all it’s cheesy goodness unfortunately. First of all, the menu items sounded delicious like the one I ordered, artichoke, spinach mac. Yum. But a whole 30 mins later after it finally came out of the window it was just oily noodles. Some cheese here and there but when I was eating it all I tasted was oil. I didn’t finish it and put it in the fridge for the next day and it just became noodles. $ 7 is a lot for mac of that quality too.

Ate at this truck when it came to Vroman’s in Pasadena. The food was bland and overpriced. Trader Joe’s Mac n Cheese is much better. The pasta was rubbery and it looked like they were selfish with the cheese. My friend got the sweet potato one($ 7.00) and the sweet potato chunks were undercooked. She couldn’t eat it. Also the portions were minuscule so we had to go to slaw dawgs. It seems like they jumped on the food truck bandwagon because it is the«in thing» but have yet to know how to make good mac and cheese. I know we won’t be visiting this truck. Tip: They do not include the tax in their prices and they only accept cash PS: If you are looking for decadent Mac n Cheese, try Nickel dinner in Downtown LA. Worth the trek.

Had this truck for the first time today at the Rosemead food truck fest. Since mac n cheese is one of my favorite dishes, I was ecstatic to find a truck that solely revolved around this single dish. Went for the buffalo mac which had buffalo chicken mixed in with their regular mac n cheese. This little dish was over $ 7… which is pretty crazy considering the disappointingly mediocre taste. The pasta was rubbery and over cooked and the cheese was sparse. After trying it, I would only consider paying no more than $ 4 for it. Pretty disappointing. I’ll most likely avoid this truck during festival outings.

$ 3 for an egg roll filled with your choice of mac and cheese. Sounds good to me. And the fact that you get to pick the type of mac and cheese you want in it means they make it to order, or at least cook it to order cause the roll came out very hot too. I think maybe next time I’ll try their plain mac and cheese options. The mac n roll was a bit underwhelming. There was very little mac and cheese inside and more of the fried wrapper. I had the sweet potato mac and cheese. I could barely taste any of the toppings — It was a lot of just the macaroni. The three other types of mac and cheese looked really good too but at $ 8 – 10 for a small dish — arg, find myself a bit hesitant.

When it’s not much better than kraft’s mac and cheese you got a problem. Especially for the price that they’re charging, you could get some really fancy mac and cheese from most sit down establishments. This stuff was a complete let down. The bread crumbs on top weren’t cutting it. When you have that going you’re looking for a nice little crust. This one just felt like someone dusted it with it and it added nothing really to the pretty bland flavoring. Which is a shame, and a little confusing. Usually the fatal flaw in mac and cheese is using the wrong noodles. You need something that can soak in the creaminess of the cheesy goodness. So the use of large elbow noodles was right, but yet the blandness shows that something is up with your lack of sauce. Was not feeling this mac and cheese and it’s really a shame, as we do need more cheese centric trucks out there. Sadly, this place just doesn’t cut it.

sorry mac and roll, but all the other reviews listed here are true. your mac has no cheese. it’s pretty bland. we had the gourmet mac with sweet potato chunks. eh. where’s the cheese? where’s the creamy sauce? and the sad sprinkly of breadcrumbs on top just doesnt cut it as a crunchy topping. we also had your boneless buffalo chicken with bleu cheese crumbles. where’s the cheese? where’s the cheesy sauce? it also doesnt look very appealing either. the bleu cheese crumbles look like cottage cheese curds. did you just shred chicken breast and mix the mac with hot sauce? one good thing is that i like the large elbow mac used and it was cooked well. and could you move a little faster. i’m watching from the window outside and you put on the foli lid and then crimp down the foil tin edges waaaay too slowly. i hate to write a bad review especially for newbies. hopefully you will take all this and continue to improve on your product. everybody does love a good mac and cheese.

Concept sounded great, but I was deeply disappointed in everything about this truck. The potatoes in the sweet potato mac(«Gourmet Mac») were not cooked thoroughly; the mac was overcooked; flavor bland. There was five in our party; we all thought it was bad. We had to go somewhere else to eat … I found out after that they’ve only been in business for a month. I think they need to prefect their recipes and cooking before rolling back out.

Classic Mac and Cheese was weak and watered down. Disappointed. Maybe the more exotic flavors pack more punch. If you’re reading this in line for the truck try one of those. If you’re seeking scrumptious Mac ‘N Cheese you can find it every sunday at the Studio City Farmer’s market vended by Paddy Mac.

A Macaroni and Cheese truck sounds like a great concept, and might be a nice addition to a food festival next to some trucks with heartier fare; but really is too narrowly focused as a stand alone truck to be able to feed and satisfy the masses. I got ordered a gourmet mac($ 7), and a classic roll.(posted at $ 3 or 2/$ 5, but I was charged $ 2.50). My apparent 50 cent saving was offset by 92 cents worth of tax added to the posted price. Since most food trucks compute the price into the meal, it is always a bit surprising to find one that doesn’t. I ate the roll first; it’s a deep fried egg roll, filled with mac and cheese(you choose the variety). It sounds good and tastes good, but keep in mind the tube style macaroni takes up a lot of volume with very little food. Why should an egg roll stuffed with pasta; even good pasta cost more than one stuffed with chicken or shrimp elsewhere? Now even though, I was charged for the gourmet mac, I was given the basic. it comes with a generous amount of prosciutto. I was expecting the gourmet which was the basic but with sweet potatoes, garlic and rosemary. About 3 or 4 bites in, I pointed it out to the owner/chef/cashier and he made me up a new order of the gourmet which I had along side of my original. To be honest, I liked the basic better. The sweet potatoes added color, but not much else to the flavor, and the rosemary and garlic changed the taste, but seemed superfluous. Even with the extra serving, I feel I didn’t get much value from this truck. A can of Diet Coke would have pushed it over 12 dollars. And for 12 dollars, I expect a lot more bang for my buck. «Gourmet Food Truck #99 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in So Cal»
