Patrick Farrell owner of Mar Vista Roofing worked his way through college roofing homes in and around Mar Vista. Upon graduation with a degree in construction, Mr. Farrell established Mar Vista Roofing Inc. The business rapidly expanded and over the past 30 years Mar Vista Roofing has become the number 1 choice for residential reroofing on the west side. I would not recommend based on the horrible customer service I was given just over the phone. I am in customer service myself, and never ever have I experienced the lack of tack from someone (Patrick). This company was recommended to me to.

I called Mar Vista Roofing, and Patrick came out that same day and wrote up an estimate on the spot. He suggested that since our roof only had a single layer of 3-​tab shingles on it, we didn’t need to remove the old roof; we could just reroof right over it and save a lot of money. Then he handed me a long list of references, with phone numbers, addresses, and a description of the work done on each. Prior to this, we already had 3 other estimates, but none of them had offered to reroof over the existing roof, and they were all significantly more expensive.
I was impressed with the price as well as Patrick’s professionalism. I took a few days to call some of the references, who all had wonderful things to say about Mar Vista Roofing. That made for an easy decision.
Throughout the process, I continued to be impressed with the punctuality and communication. So many contractors are lacking in this area, but this is a well-​run professional business. The process was so smooth and painless, I couldn’t believe it was over already. The new roof looks great, and while we haven’t had any rains to test it yet, I’m confident that it will be just fine.

Mar vista roofing is unprofessional and unhelpful. I’ve called and emailed them about multiple projects, requests proposals, and onsite visits. Patrick answers the phone takes all your info and then the contact drops from there. No responses by phone, text, or email. Don’t bother… It’s a waste of time!

I spent some time to find the right roofer and was very happy with Patrick and Mar Vista Roofing. He’s a very straightforward guy. Honest. Direct. Ready to answer any of the many many questions I had. He did exactly what he said he would do. When they tore off my roof there was a bunch of wood rot, which needed to be repaired. They took care of it quickly and at a reasonable rate. He even helped me get the info I needed to claim my rebate from DWP. I certainly recommend this company. You’ll be in honest, good hands. No cheap, cruddy labor. This is the real deal.

Our «Birdhouse» home was built in 1959 by real estate developer William Mellenthin who was known for designing charming ranch-​style homes with gorgeous, wood beam, cathedral ceilings; He was also known for hiring the very best workmen to construct his homes. Having owned our home since 1991, my husband Robert K. & I began searching for a reputable company to replace our 30 – 40 year old roof – not an easy task! Luckily for us, our cousin Alan K. had an excellent experience with Pat Farrell, owner of Mar Vista Roofing, Inc., who replaced his roof after Alan had a bad experience with a former recent roofer who installed inferior shingles, which broke down & leaked! Thank goodness that Alan utilized Mar Vista Roofing’s expertise to correct the situation – & to our benefit!
Mr. Farrell was Johnny-​on-​the-​Spot. He immediately shared with us his assessment of the condition of our roof (extremely old, but with 2 layers of shingles to avoid a complete replacement); he reviewed the choices we had of regular shingles versus top-​of-​the-​line solarized shingles; he demonstrated his knowledge & experience so convincingly that we hired him on the spot & enjoyed watching his workmen carry out his directions to the «T». Within 2 days, the old roof was stripped off by 10 – no kidding, 10 – of the best workmen, & the new one installed by a different crew of the very best 5 or 6 workmen. The results? A beautifully installed, brand-​new roof using solarized shingles in a great color!
(BTW, for those of you who’ve read some of the poor reviews below: those unfortunate reviews must’ve been written by people who lack the education & good judgment to recognize someone with Pat Farrell’s integrity.)

I find it so hard to believe all these bad reviews from Patrick. Patrick came to my house promptly after my initial phone call. While others had said I had a lot of roof damage and would need to replace most of the wood under the roof, Patrick said the wood was fine. He provided me with several pages of referrals and I called several of them at random. Each person was very happy with their roof and very happy with Patrick.
I got my new roof this past summer in 2014, I decided to wait until now to actually write a review, as I wanted it to RAIN on my new roof to make sure there were no leaks — NO leaks. Roof is great, price was great and I love the color. Excellent job! Two thumbs up from me!

Patrick replaced the asphalt shingle roof on my back house over ten years ago, still looks like a million bucks, never leaked, reasonable price, great (and quick!) crew.
So of course we hired him again for the new roof on our front house, which was just completed. I did get other bids which, on a $ 5,000 dollar job were two or three hundred dollars less. He spent the time to show me where those bids came up short, patiently explaining the roofing process. He also ran interference with my rooftop HVAC people and my solar people, all of which was happening at the same time, and none of whom were as professional and exacting as Pat… In fact, he avoided a couple of disasters by pointing out problems in the work of the other contractors, problems that were nipped in the bud thanks to his exceptional commitment to doing things the right way.
Trust me people, the roof is NOT the place to cut corners or hire someone who’s «good enough». And don’t believe all these suspicious one-​star reviews, they seem to be from slimy competitors.

Job was done quickly… But beware of their truck, It will leak oil on your driveway! Mine was new UGH. Not happy at all with that as there was plenty of street parking. I have never seen a pro park in a customers driveway unless required to do so…

This man named Patrick said he was from Mar Vista Roofing called from an unknown number sunday night and said he would like to come to look at the roof between 9 – 10
I did call Mar vista roofing next day… he answered the phone and said it would be more like close to eleven. I was just round the corner at my mother’s house I noticed he’d called around ten fifteen, I called and said I was sorry I did not hear the phone. He was surly and rude and said I am not coming back. I think I was lucky

As I previously noted, after writing my review I was emailed by Patrick. I wish I could give a ‘-1′ rating as. He basically accused me of making it up. I think it’s quite sad I had nails come through my ceiling and he does not even remember the event. It must be common for him.
I have since talked to another neighborhood businessman that said he has so many bad reports that on Mar Vista Roofing/​Patrick that he will no longer refer his own customers to him, instead steers them away.

I had a 30+ year old roof on my house and the original 1940’s shingle roof (what was left of it) on my detached garage, so I knew there would be extensive repair in addition to the new roof. I called and Patrick was out the next day, gave me a very fair estimate
and began work within the week, with all permits taken care of. His crew was great, they worked quickly and cleaned up so well you wouldn’t know they’d been there. I don’t understand the bad reviews because in all my dealings with Patrick he was very respectful. Now I have a beautiful roof and no more leaks in the garage. I would definitely recommend this company.

Very pleased with our new roof. Patrick made it easy, came one day and we chose the new tiles, they installed a couple of days later. We shopped around and one company told us it would take 7 days to remove our old roof and install the new one. Mar Vista did the whole process in 2 days. No-​one ever wants to buy a new roof, but if you have to I would definitely recommend them.

I have used Mar Vista Roofing for years! Pat has always been professional and quick to respond to anything I needed. I will continue to use them for ALL my current and future roofing needs! I have to laugh at some of these «bad reviews» based on my experience, they must be getting companies mixed up or it’s one disgruntled client faking multiple bad reviews because I have never had issues with them in the ten years I have been using them! Please don’t use these rude and unprofessional roofer. After the job was done i noticed that some flashing that I requested was not put in, when I called they came out and denied putting in the gutter which they surely did, then said gutter was too small, first time I heard this, Pat was very argumentative and defensive. This must happen alot. Then he leaves without doing anything and leaves a bill for 185.00.
This business does not deserve your business.

Our advice — avoid at all costs.
When we gently asked him about the lack of spec mix in between the mission tiles (as is standard on ANY Spanish style house), the owner of the company got angry, tried to bully us and griped «Are you calling me a liar?»
We nearly fired him right then and there. Please consider another supplier.

We have a 270′ view house in Brentwood (Mandeville Canyon) and did a full restoration on it. The first contractor was a crook, the second basically had to go backwards before we could go forwards, redesigning and really doing it right. Unfortunately the first contractor put a cr*p roof on an amazing house, and it leaked the first rain. After we did more work we ended up just cutting out the front and back of the house and just moiding the warranty (which was fine at that point). However… it leaked again in the torrential rains.
I found a couple good looking roofing reviews on Google but not many, and after calling a few other contractors, i realized they were all crooks. Dig deep people… dont take the first good looking review you find.
Well… I found Mar Vista, and checked them out. Patrick came out the next day and reported back and gave us a few options to fix some problematic work:
1. — Patch it and see if it stops (no guarantee)
2. — Really do it right
3. — Redo the entire roof
We chose option 1 and to date its held just fine. We will be taking on option 2 soon, but just waiting for winter to pass.

I needed a new roof for my contemporary flat-​roofed Manhattan Beach home. Patrick, President (and owner) of Mar Vista Roofing was professional and courteous at all times through the process and answered all the little surprises that came up throughout the project. His people were experienced, considerate, friendly and courteous. He coordinated this roofing work with that of his sheet metal sub-​contractor (Kelly Sheet Metal). He communicated all issues as they arose in a timely and clear manner.
Mar Vista Roofing was not my low-​cost competitive bidder, but I went with them because of reputation and references. The roof is an important part of the house. I am very happy with the work done. The job was completed in less than a week — right on schedule.

Last year, I noticed a leak coming from the roof of my condo. Our HOA found a guy to come out for repairs. He was going to fix my leak, another leak over a different unit, and clean off the mold growing on the tiles. Long story, but my leak was never repaired and he disappeared without finishing the job. He even left without his ladder! Anyway, I didn’t figure out that the leak was not fixed (since he left in the middle of power-​washing the mold off the tiles) until this year when the rain came.
I called Mar Vista roofing after a random search online, and Patrick was able to come by the next morning for a quote. I decided to go with him immediately, since he seemed very knowledgeable and professional, and his quote was reasonable. His crew came out the following day and repaired my leak. I was happy with his work and thrilled that he was able to get the job done so soon after I called him.
I didn’t write a review right away, since I wasn’t completely sure that the repairs were good. I kept waiting for more rain, until finally, it rained yesterday! I’m happy to report that the leak is fixed!
