Mexican Food Truck

Living nearby, I’ve passed by this food truck hundreds of times and I couldn’t recall seeing more than one person ever ordering from it. However, tonight, on my way to the Subway for some cheap eats, I saw a security guard pick something up from the truck and decided, «now there is a brave soul… I should follow suit.»
However, like most people who venture into something unknown, sometimes the course you choose to take is the wrong one. Such is the case here.
I knew things did not bode well when the cook took a spoonful of gray, boiled carne asada and dropped it on the grill. The biggest taste in the burrito was that of the hot sauce… which tasted like it was mixed with swimming pool water (highly chlorinated). I couldn’t really taste anything else, but I think I would count that as a blessing. The stomach pains started half an hour after I ate it, and continue as I write this now.
Usually, I have a policy of giving someplace new a second chance based on the notion that maybe I got the food on an off day. Not this time, though. Next time, I’ll be a sheep and just continue walking towards that 24 hour Subway on Wilshire.

The food is great, the people are nice and the service is very expeditious — what more could I ask for when buying tacos from a truck on the street? (Well, I could ask that the fruit stand I also frequent was right next to the taco truck rather than around the corner but that would just be greedy). I typically just get the veggie options here — veggie tacos ($ 1 a piece), veggie burrito ($ 4 or $ 5 with avocado — totally worth it), veggie quesadille (I think this is $ 4, too). I have been going for the tacos almost exclusively lately because everything is so big. The veggie burrito seemed to weigh about two pounds and I always felt the need to sleep after I ate even half of it. The veggie tacos are big enough for me for lunch. The quesadilla was very good, too, although also big; I haven’t had a quesadilla for a while.
The man who runs this truck is very nice and he remembers everyone. It’s a great value and pretty quick for lunch, even if there is a line.
