History
Established in 2001.
Mike Wells, a musician and recording engineer himself with over a dozen commercial titles in the marketplace, launched Mike Wells Mastering in 2001 with a vision to:
1) Create audio mastering results that thrill our clients.
2) Deliver a consistently pleasant and engaging experience for every client.
3) Integrate emerging technologies into the mastering process to assist clients in next steps post mastering.
After almost a decade of service to the Bay Area, Mike Wells Mastering now supports an ever-growing clientele while maintaining our original vision.
We understand musical vision. We know the process of making records. We recognize modern challenges of releasing and promoting records as an independent. When you book a session with us, you gain our experience and expertise in mastering along with our resources to help you succeed after your session with us.
Outside the studio, we offer ongoing education through seminars with NARAS, AES, Tape Op, and Leo’s Pro Audio.

Business Owner
Mike Wells moved to San Francisco in the 80’s pursuing a career as a musician and has performed and recorded with bands on Metal Blade, Hymen, and Metropolis Records to name a few.
As a recording engineer in the 90’s Mike saw a need for a friendlier Mastering experience, where the artists and recording engineers were actively involved in the process and their goals were considered to ensure that the people making the records achieved the mastering results they envisioned.
As a mastering engineer Mike’s client roster includes John Vanderslice, Mark Eitzel, Jello Biafra, STS9, The Mother Hips, Jackie Greene, WHY?, Anticon Records, Alternative Tentacles Records, and Fat Wreck Chords.
