Mow Rake Sow

BUYER BEWARE: This is one of the worst businesses out there. I’ve had the unfortunate experience of dealing with them for nearly two years now.
Mow Rake Sow was first hired to completely redo the landscaping and driveways of our four apartment buildings. First off, Dan Goshen is not a trained landscaper. At best he is an aspiring gardener. This became evident throughout the project. This project cost very close to six figures and the end product is atrocious. They botched the drip irrigation in the back parking areas where one side grew and the other side has dying bushes and dehydrated trees. All of this was new. One of their biggest errors was using the wrong plants alongside the driveway that keep falling over into the driveway and have to be taped off with yellow caution tape. The plants and trees they used are killing all of the bees too. Aside from this, they also guaranteed the same amount of parking spaces after the re-​paving. Well guess what? Three tenants lost parking spaces when they were done. Dan wasn’t worried about this despite giving assurances that this wouldn’t happen.
If you want to see their handy work please drive by the beige buildings with green trim located at 4230 and 4308 Los Feliz Blvd. You will get a chance to see all of the dying plants and improperly installed drip irrigation.
Save your money and avoid these guys. Their weekly maintenance is no better. The broken drip irrigation is still here and the dying plants are too. They just show up and clip a few bushes, blow debris around and fill up our empty trash bin making it difficult to dispose of trash the rest of the week. Not to mention, they don’t hesitate to cover tenants’ cars with wet debris from their trimmings.

I contacted Mow, Rake, Sow nearly a week ago to get an estimate for landscaping and gardening. My inquiry went unanswered.

I have been using Mow Rake Sow for my gardening needs for well over a year. I have used several other gardeners and landscapers in the past and Dan’s company is by far the best, most knowledgeable, and professional.
They have been nothing short of excellent. I have a very unique yard, all succulents and other plants that require quite a bit of maintenance. No lawn. Dan and his team know how to tend to them all and keep them looking bright, healthy, and full. I could not be happier.
The billing procedures are straightforward and simple. And the costs are very reasonable.
Dan is also always willing to discuss the state of my yard and make suggestions about how to improve it and what I could change. But he never tries to upset me on improvements or convince me to spend more than is necessary to keep the yard looking its best. Once we decide on any changes, he and his team have been excellent at implementing them.
Finally, on a personal level, everyone at Mow Rake Sow is kind, professional, and prompt. I am always happy to chat with them when I happen to be home during my weekly service.
I highly recommend Mow Rake Sow, Dan, and his crew of skillful gardeners. In response to those who have complained about the time it takes for Dan to return messages, I would just note that Dan works in the field on one of his crews most days. He is not sitting in an office. Thus, it may take him more time to return messages than it would take an office professional. That should not surprise people. And since there are rarely (if ever) gardening emergencies, it should not be an issue and it never has been for me. A little patience goes a long way, especially when it comes to plants and gardens.

Dan arrived at our home for a consultation the day we contacted him at no charge. He was very knowledgeable and made several good points about the work we’re planning to have done. I think a landscaping service should be able to do more than ask «alright, so what it is it you would like?.» They should be able to advise and recommend things that would make your property look good and Dan was certainly able to do that. The prices he estimated seemed competitive and I got the feeling he runs the type of business that stands behind their work. If you’re looking for a landscaping service I wouldn’t hesitate to contact them for an estimate.

Dan and his team members are the best! They truly do care about making sure everything is perfect and quickly do what I ask for to be done… I don’t understand why others say that Dan doesn’t respond to calls or messages. He has always quickly responded to all my calls or messages. You will be in great hands with Dan and his crew! Thanx!!!

The comments about responsiveness are true. I called and left a message on a Monday. It’s now Friday afternoon, and no return call. Guess they don’t need any more new business!

I contacted the owner Dan over a year ago on a patio design project that I ended up dropping the ball on due to sudden unemployment. I recently called him back a year later to set up basic care & maintenance for my private patio that is filled with over grown, dying, un-​watered, un-​nurtured, plants that I just have no clue how to care for. Dan not only was understanding of my past lack of communication but effortlessly forgiving as he and his designer wasted time and effort on a design plan for my patio that I never carried on with.
When I explained that I just desperately needed care for the neglected plants I currently have and that is all I can afford at this time, he immediately worked with me on scheduling and a VERY fair cost!
I am delighted to say that two of the Mow Rake Sow dedicated employees came over today and cleaned up, clipped, nurtured, and watered on my patio fortress of plants making it a gorgeous, welcoming haven that it should be!
I will be continuing on with monthly service and once things pick up for me again financially you bet I will be having Dan work his magic on a redesign!

Talk about responsive and knowledgeable! I got a callback shortly after I left my voicemail. We set an appointment. Dan came out on time to assess our yard for landscaping and we were impressed with his knowledge and creative suggestions. No hard sell either. He was upfront and, honest. A trait that goes a long way in today’s world.

Not happy at all. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE.
I found his company here on Unilocal,and decided to give it a shot. All I needed was my yard cleared of weeds and grass seed laid, along with my irrigation checked on.
I contacted Dan multiple times and had a really tough time actually getting in touch with him. He hardly ever gets back to you when you try to contact him, unless you’re a new customer. I think it took an average of THREE DAYS for him to respond to one of my calls or texts, not even a courtesy text.
Dan came by himself – an hour late – after notifying me that his crew would not make it. He worked on my (tiny) front yard cleaning weeds for about 4 hours, and charged me $ 160 just to clear the weeds. I paid him in advance IN GOOD FAITH, as I had to leave for a business meeting for several hours, and we agreed that he’d perform bi-​monthly service at my house every Saturday.
When I arrived home, I was shocked to see that not only did he do a terrible job, leaving the actual ROOTS and STEMS of the weeds, but he left my front yard a total mess. There was grass shreds stuck to the entire walls of my house, including my sliders and windows/​screens, and the steps and pathway leading to my house were covered in MUD from his boots. On top of that, he left the bags of weeds and trash outside the front of my house, rather than discarding them as promised (and paid for). No grass seed was laid, and my irrigation wasn’t even looked at.
Willing to overlook all that in exchange for bi-​monthly garden service, I brought it up to him in good faith, and asked him just to make sure it didn’t happen next time.
When I expressed my concerns about him leaving my yard and house a mess, he blatantly ignored me indefinitely, and never got back to me regarding the monthly services he’d promised.
I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone. He runs a very poor program, is very unorganized, and unreliable to say the least.

I was wanting to find a eco conscious lawn service. i do not like the noise and pollution of small engines on lawn mowers and leaf blowers. plus i wanted to find a reputable person that i could trust with my gate code. i found Dan and i am so happy. i get great service at a great price carried out by a good person. i couldnt be happier i found mow rake sow.

Dan showed up to interview but never came again, only his crew came afterwards. On one of their earlier visits they turned sprinklers from «auto» to «off» and didn’t turn them back on. My lawn started to burn. I told them not to do that again and even locked the automatic control box. So they started unplugging the box instead. They knew the sprinkler schedule and even though I asked them to work around it they’d rather turn off the sprinklers and lie to me about it. I guess there’s not as much to cut if its all burned up … anyway I had to fire them. If you hire these guys I hope your experience is better than mine was.

Dan and his crew are great! The electric equipment is super-​quiet compared to gas trimmers!

My yard, shrubs, plants have never looked better. It’s a large space, especially, for Los Angeles, and I get compliments on it all the time now. That’s down to Dan and the Mow Rake Sow crew. Dan not only has know-​hot but he’s also a friendly, smart, very good guy. Unlike other yard services, Dan and his crew say what they mean and mean what they say. They show up on time when expected and don’t waste a second. What a concept! I would never want to have to switch to another service and when I move, I plan to have Mow Rake Sow follow right along with me. Their «green» focus means a lot to me. Extra points for their having a cool name, besides.

Dan and his guys are awesome! Very dependable and always go above and beyond what is expected. Very personable and knowledgeable! Also very affordable! Do yourself a favor and call Dan!

When it was time to call in the pros for some biweekly landscape maintenance, turned to Unilocal and found Mow Rake Sow/​Dan G. I’d been doing my own maintenance for 10 years and have always used electric equipment. The fact that they do too was a big positive in my decision to call them. Dan responded to my initial contact, came out to assess my needs and worked with me on the schedule. He is professional, personable and puts in the effort. I’m not overly demanding, but the few times I’ve had a particular request, he has accommodated. Thanks Dan!

Outstanding service, great prices, convenient online system set up for payment.
We have a yard that has suffered from years of neglect and destruction, between the house sitting on the market for a year or two, and then again as we have torn apart and renovated our house. Mow Rake Sow made our poor falling apart backyard look as beautiful as it could be for a housewarming in a few hours and for the right price.
I’m really looking forward to working with Dan when we start re-​landscaping our yard this year!

My husband and I originally contacted Dan because of his environmental approach to lawn care (electric mower, e-​bill pay, etc) but quickly appreciated his fair prices, work ethic and friendly service. We’ve only used Mow Rake Sow for bi-​weekly mowing, trimming and weeding but will definitely contact Dan for any future landscape projects as well.

Dan and the team at Mow Rake Sow have been maintaining and improving my landscaping for about six months now and I couldn’t be happier. We were looking for an environmentally-​friendly landscaper with a modern approach, and Mow Rake Sow has really come through on all levels. We recently decided to redo the landscaping in our backyard, and Dan’s prices were reasonable and fair and his suggestions were incredibly insightful, from helping us plan the aesthetic look we wanted to giving us ideas for the types of plants, chips, rock and other elements we needed. He even helped us rebuild and repaint our fence! All this while keeping our yard the best-​looking on the block. I also like that I can pay using the Internet, and whenever I have a question or need additional work, its easy to reach Dan and get things moving. I couldn’t recommend Mow Rake Sow more.

I can’t recommend Mow Rake Sow enough! We have been using them for about 2 months now, and my lawn looks better than it ever has. VERY affordable prices and courteous professional service combined with an eye for asthetic and true landscaping, I cant thank Mow Rake Sow enough! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

My yard isn’t huge but Dan at Mow Rake didn’t seem to care. He probably could have made more money on another project but he seemed committed to actually providing customer service… what a novel concept! Sure, you probably could get another service that charges less but i think the group is on to something but not using gas or making a rawkus at 7AM (i’m talking to you neighbor at 9^th and Sycamore).
