Nami is my favorite hair stylist in Los Angeles. I have fine, thin, straight hair, not so typical of asian hair… but I only trust Japanese hair stylists since I know they train for years before they even get to start having their own customers. I usually get hair cuts and color only when I am in Japan, but I needed my hair done asap since it was looking like a pudding with the roots growing.
Anyways, the first time I went to her was 2 years ago, and she took me last minute for a balayage on a Sunday afternoon. It took about 3 hours and ended past 9pm. She didn’t rush, was very thorough, and very skillful. LOVED my hair. She even selected the lightest color possible for the tips, like I asked, that doesn’t kill the hair but blonde enough to not be a dirty yellow. Price was about $ 170 plus tip (remember it’s based on your hair length and quality so it varies upon people! My hair is not hard to deal with, but curly/​thick/​virgin hair is much harder so it may be pricier).
I’ve done another balayage 6 months after that. Her colors last very long. Was also satisfied that time as well. I’m going again this week for a hair cut! :)

Nami’s the best! I’ve had my hair done by her twice so far and she is a whiz with coloring and bayalaage. I always walkout of the salon happy =) Her prices are very reasonable. She is located in Nobu Salon. There is free validated parking to the left of the salon and plenty of metered street parking as well.

Outstanding hair stylist/​designer. Cut it exactly the way I needed it. Four thumbs up, if I had that many hands.

Thanks Nami for squeezing me in with a last minute appointment! Wow, I know, I got really lucky and I’m grateful. My ½ Asian, thick, slightly wavy hair that tends to frizz looks so much healthier!
And Sunday appointments are so convenient. Parking in the nearby lot is free on Sundays too!

I really wanted to like Nami, given all of her amazing reviews and that she seems like she would really understand Asian hair. However, I was really disappointed with the haircut. I had clearly communicated that I didn’t want it to be too layered– yet the top came out looking very bowl like given the short layers on top, which she called volume but I felt was just not flattering and very «asian» looking but not in a good way. Very disappointed and will likely need to get my hair fixed elsewhere.

Anyway, I think the first time I came here was for a haircut. $ 55 or $ 60 — I think you get a deal the first time! Look at her site! But damn. She thinned out my hair like crazy. I wish I had a before and after picture, but it was poofy! Triangle shaped! Hahah. She’s very sweet. I remember I was so embarassed my hair and she just smiled and laughed.
I came here to do an ombré last year, and I wanted the tips to be a baby pink. She did a great job and curled my hair at the end. I think total it was $ 120 or $ 130 — haircut, bangs, and color, I don’t remember…
I just went here today for bangs about $ 10.

When comes to my hair, Nami is my go to person. I am a Japanese, with LOTS of curly and wavy hair. Very difficult. But Nami knows how to tame it and turn it into something pretty. I’ve been seeing her for cut and color for a few years, since my friend recommended. This Wednesday, she applied Yuko System thermal relaxer for the first time. My hair is now so shiny and straight that I’ve been getting so many compliments like «gorgeous» and «wow». When I was filmed by some Japanese TV crew last year, I made a point to see Nami for a haircut. I could not be happier when I saw on TV my hair perfectly straight on my back. Thank you, Nami!

I come from Poland where I had an amazingly trained hairdresser and when I moved to LA about 5 years ago I was never satisfy with my haircut. I like keeping my blond hair medium length with a lot of layers in it. I was keep being disappointed by poor techniques of cutting hair. I found Nami on Unilocal and since she had so many good reviews I thought it is worth a try.
The moment I walked in to the salon I knew I am in good hands. It looks like every hairdresser there is like a Japanese Samurai of Hairstyle! Amazing!
Nami did a great first impression on me by being really sweet and really listening what kind of haircut I want and then she just went for it! She is very confident in what she does and trust me I know the good techniques from bad ones and I can tell you now that she is amazingly trained. She is the only one in LA that was able to do the layers I was asking for (some parts with a specially curved, super sharp scissors!). I can finally run my fingers through my hair and feel good about it!
I came back few days after my fabulous haircut for some blond highlights. I asked for the ashy blond. She picked the color perfectly. But what really impressed me again is her being so precise. She took her time to separate the hair and gave me naturally looking thin highlights. Exactly what I wanted!

I had been loyal to Taka Hair Salon for years, even after they increased their price from $ 65 to $ 75 (yikes). Last month, I considered going back there again since my usual hair stylist works out of Taka’s salon, but she was on vacation for another week. I was long over due for a cut and decided it was the perfect time to try a new place. Like many here, I relied on Unilocal.
My criteria is simple. After several hair mishaps in my past involving everything from Paul Mitchell trainees to bougie salons in NYC, I’ve learned the only thing I need in a hair stylist is lots of experience with Asian hair. This Westwood area offers a heavy concentration of Asian hair stylists, but the Unilocal reviews for Nami stood out for me. What particularly stood out:
— Sweet personality and easy going
— Comfortable and meticulous with technique
— Able to accomplish any style shown to her to a T
A decent price is also great. Nami charged me $ 65.
Due to a condition that recently flared up, which causes significant hair loss, I was sensitive to losing more hair than necessary during the cut, so I let Nami know ahead of time. She was completely accepting and comfortable. She offered me an appointment opening for the very same day.
Nami gave me long layers without thinning out my hair, and I’m very happy with it. Considering how thin my hair has gotten in the past few months, the layers gave me a bit of my volume back. At the end of my appointment, Nami gave me her card and said I can also text her for future appointments. Great customer service.
I will definitely return.
Parking Tip: Street parking is available, but valet parking for the building is also free with validation from Nobu Salon.

Nami has been really good taking care of my hair style for almost a year now. I am so glad I found her, and all 4 friends (to whom I recommended her) do like her too. What I really like about her, besides her technical skills, are that she can create your hairstyle out of a PHOTO you show to her, and that she knows which styles fit you. I have 2 adjacent cowlicks which create such tangled hair that sticks out. She does a really good job to relieve the clash between the two cowlicks. She said my «.hair is challenging, but I like it.» I love that attitude !! Appointment with her is also very easy, just texting her directly for available schedule. Thanksssss Nami!

So detail oriented. Excellent technique and personality. My husband and I both love our first time with her.

My first time to get a haircut from Nami. I texted her Monday afternoon & she was able to see me the following day. I LOVE her cutting techniques. I am sure I will be her regular client.

Let me just say that I have a lot of hair (I’m middle eastern) that is thick, wavy, extremely long, and unruly. I’ve gone to several different hairstylists in order to get a haircut that made my hair thinner, lighter, and easier to maintain. Specifically, I wanted short layers while keeping my long hair. Every single salon I went to gave me the same cookie cutter long-​layered haircut, until I went to Nami.
Nami listened to exactly what I wanted and did exactly that. She is sweet, adorable, and my new go-​to hairstylist. I can finally run my fingers through my hair.

Nami is awesome! I was looking for a new hair stylist and found her on Unilocal.Almost all 5 star rating convinced me to make an appointment with her. I’m really picky when it comes to haircut. Rule #1: I only go to Japanese hair stylist. Rule #2: They have to be trained and have worked in Japan (I’ve heard from stylists themselves that the techniques are a lot more advanced in Japan and it’s much harder to get a license there). Nami easily passed both of my requirements.
Making an appointment with her was a breeze. I just texted the number that’s on Unilocal and within minutes I had my appointment. For reference, I contacted her on a Thursday and she was able to see me on Saturday afternoon!
I’m one of those people who have too much hair. Straight, thick, dark Asian hair. Nami did a great job giving me layers and taking lots of volume off my hair. To be honest, I think I was about 95% happy with my hair leaving the salon, but next day, when I washed and styled my hair on my own, I was 150% happy. I just dried my hair with my hands (no roll brush or anything!) and it looked great! 3 weeks later, it’s still looking fantastic. I think I’ve found myself a new hair stylist!
One thing that could be improved is the shampoo chair at this salon. It was the most uncomfortable shampoo chair I’ve ever been on! So awkwardly positioned, I think you have to be like 4 ft tall to feel comfortable in that thing. But I’m still going to give her 5 stars because she is great!

Since moving to LA I have had a slew of okay haircuts at Floyds… trying to keep it cheap… and they are always decent but nothing spectacular. Finally I decided to spend a bit more and get a really great styled cut. I turned to my trustworthy Unilocal and this is where Nami comes in, with her amazing reviews. I texted Nami (she is great with texting) and had an appt. for 2 days later.
Nami spent about 45 minutes on my hair, and I could tell she really cared and knew what she was doing. I showed her a picture and she followed it perfectly. She was so cute too and very friendly.
After the cut she washed my hair again and spent the last 10 minutes blow drying it. I absolutely loved the job she did. SO thorough.
She also gave me 10% since it was my first visit!
Oh and there is validated parking in back.
I definitely found my new hair stylist!

Very happy with Nami. I was previously seeing Toshi at Du Japon on Sawtelle but since I am almost always a last minute planner when it comes to my hair, I really appreciate that Nami can take me on 24-​hours notice on a weekend, no less!
Nami is super cute and very nice. She’s good with feedback and gave me exactly what I wanted… without me having to say it (because like all women, we’re better at explaining what we don’t want, rather than knowing what we do).
She did a nice subtle ombré color on my dark brown Korean hair and gave me a cute layered cut the first time. I actually found that I preferred my cut a little less layered at the bottom since it kept getting these terrible tangles. So the next time I came in, I asked if she could do anything about it while keeping the overall shape and that’s exactly what she did. I already see the difference and it’s been a day.
For just my trim, it was $ 65 + tip and it took about an hour. Not as cheap as you could get say in K-​town but in return you get a much more consistent cut which is what’s really important to me.
She operates out of Nobu Salon on Westwood (though I just call her directly to book) and when I called her on a Saturday, I was booked for Sunday at noon! Also a bonus because Sundays mean no charge for metered street parking.
Bottom line is that I really like Nami, you get a better ‘salon’ experience at Nobu (Du Japon is ‘strictly business’) and she can usually get you in on a moment’s notice.

WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO OMBRE YOUR OWN HAIR!!!
I wish I heeded the above warning. Alas, I did not. But as my good friend said after she saw Nami’s work…“I think I’m glad you messed up your hair last night because it looks so good now!”
Yesterday, I was struck with a sudden fancy to ombré my own ‘do. One trip to Marukai and two bottles of Palty hair dye later, I was left with straight and chunky clumps of dyed hair. This is after I divided my hair into parts, back-​combed it AND used foil!!! Teaching moment, folks — leave the hair experiments to the professionals. I frantically googled «asian ombré hair» and Nami’s info popped up. Luckily she squeezed me in today and it took her almost two hours to fix my awful mistake. And she did it with a smile!

She knows how to cut my curly, wavy, crazy hair! I don’t end up coming out looking like a triangle head – like how I used to before I met Nami.
Nami is extremely detailed and takes the time to perfect her art. Simply put, she is great. In the beginning when my hair was thick and curly she was able to tame it with her cuts, and my curls were defined and stood out. Instead of just a bush of hair – which was a result I always seemed to have when I went to different hairstylists.
I had always went through this procedure with other hairstylists, who to avoid dealing with my curls always «advised» me to straighten my hair – or whatever – and I honestly hated it. I was so impressed during my first haircut with Nami that she wasn’t trying to convince me to straighten it… instead with me not knowing how I wanted it cut because I had always had bad haircuts and really just given up… she took a look at my hair and gave it an amazing cut and conditioning treatment that my hair was dying for.
It’s been 7 years since that first cut and I don’t let anyone else touch my hurrsss. I could not be more pleased and honestly just grateful for her! Did I mention that I drive from Ventura County to come see her in West LA?

I’ve been seeing Nami since I first arrived in Los Angeles (+7 years now!), and she’s a craftsman at her art. She’s friendly, yet professional and has always done the perfect job! Everyone always asks where I get my hair done — and they’re jealous!
I wish I could give her 10 stars!!!
