Out of The Closet

This place was a mess so dirty and it just wast a nice place to visit I really liked the one In studio city it’s said to see that place close down!

The average for this place is way lower than it should be. You want cheaper prices? Go dumpster diving. You were offended by the service? Grow thicker skin, or stay at home.
I’ve never had problems here. Every now & then I find sick video games or laser discs & I’ve been able to exchange the two things I got that ended up not working. In my opinion, as someone who hawks all of the thrift stores in the area, this one tends to have the best electronics despite the record store guy who works across the street and jacks all the good stereo equipment.
Keep doing what you’re doing.

I had a very bad experience here. I have been donating for years and an employee called my donations «trash» and «junk» I had bags of clothing (playhouse; computer electronics, bags if clothes) and I took it back and donated all of my «junk» to a grateful Goodwill on San Fernando.
I will never donate to Out of The Closet again. When I said I’ll take my stuff away, The employer (J.Alvar…) said, «I was going to throw it away anyways.»

Out of the Closet? More like «Out of their minds». The books here are so grossly overpriced. It’s a thrift store not a vintage book store. And the people who work at out of the closet can’t discount the books for any reason because some mysteries «book expert» comes around and prices all the books. Huh? Some jack off thinks microwave recipes from 1984 with a coffee stained cover should cost $ 4.50?

OVER PRICED!!! I love thrift stores but this particular location is way over priced, not to mention most of their staff is rude, unhelpful and need proper training. They never offer daily discount specials and the color tag discounts items are slim to none! I found some pretty cool stuff here and paid $ 98 for my bag of stuff. However, at the NoHo location bought the same type of stuff nothing major some long sleeve men’s shirts & t-​shirts nothing too fancy and paid less then half, on top of that received the daily discount of $ 30% for that day and some tagged items for that day were 50% off. When asking the staff at the Atwater location if they ever offer daily discounts of any sort? His reply was it depends on the manager? (meaning NEVER) We’ve been there quite a few times as they have some nice finds and have yet to receive ANYTHING with a discount nor have found anything worth buying on the discount color tags. As again, the findings for those color taged discount items are slim and none! We wish they had the same system as the NOHO store. Better attitude… Better Business… After all, they are a non profit. #disappointed

Rude! Its interesting to see when non profits become a success how they forget their mission and/​or origin. I have donated to this chain a few times and enjoyed the tax deduction.
I was at a nearby coffee shop yesterday and decided to kill some time before heading somewhere. I decided to purchase 2 small household items. I handed the rude cashier, Jessie, my first card. It didnt process as they didnt accept that card type. I was fine with it because Ive seen that. However when my 2^nd card also had an issue (despite the fact that its from a different bank) Politely I suggested that perhaps rebooting him card terminal (turn it off and back on) may resolve the problem. However his comment «Whatever you say is not going to matter and not going to influence me» was not only rude, but horrible customer service. I then asked what other options can be done to resolve this matter. His response was «There isnt one.»
I thought the mission statement of OOTC was for AIDS benefit. I guess not. I didnt see one iota of desire in keeping their goals in tact.
There is a lack of training and humanity as far as Im concerned. I wont never shop here again. I will donate to other organizations.

So my complaint here is as someone trying to donate items. I pulled up to Out of the Closet and the moment the dude working there saw my kids in the car he tells me he doesn’t want «any baby stuff.» First off, my kids are not babies and my car was not full of baby stuff to donate, but second it is free f’ing stuff… in decent condition. He walked away and would not take anything I had brought. I’m not sure I understand why they couldn’t have taken the stuff and parceled off any kids items to their other stores that do carry children’s items. He was completely rude and I don’t recommend donating your items here.

This Out of the Closet has really cleaned up. A few years back I was disappointed but it’s improved big time. Their clothes are really affordable and they have designer clothes. I like their selection now. I also love the dish-​ware and home décor. I walked out buying an 8 pack of these really cute white thank-​you cards.

Good stuff cheep for a great cause. Come on! Can’t beat that! Open and clean. Well organized. Friendly staff. You know I’ll be back.

Not much to say about this review as I was not a customer, and still need to come in one of these days soon to check out the shop.
I had come in through the back to drop off a few donations. The parking spot right next to the door is strictly reserved for donations, so it was nice to find a quick parking spot as the lot was full. The gentleman working in the back was also helpful enough to ask if I wanted a physical tax deductible receipt or if I wanted to do it electronically Via email. I chose one of each on my two visits to drop off some donation stuff.
I will add more to this after I actually check out the shop as a customer.

I met Jarvis Cocker here, so even if I didn’t like the place, it would still get five stars. Anyway, on to the actual review.
I come here fairly often. Every once in a while, I’ll have shitty luck and not find anything I like, but 90% of the time, I manage to find awesome things. Like last week, I got an Angelyne fan-​club shirt, a Whitney Biennial shirt with a Chuck Close print on it, a skirt, a pair of American Apparel slacks for my boyfriend and a few books for about $ 8. I dunno, personally, I thought that was pretty cool. The dudes that work here (with the exception of one older guy who just seems kinda rude in general) have also never been anything but super nice and helpful to me. So yeah, I like this location of Out of the Closet a lot.
I like it much more than the one in Echo Park anyway, heh :/

Picked up a like –new dress shirt for $ 7.50

This place is only good for its inexpensive items and good finds. Other than that, from my experience, staff were extremely rude. I’d try the other location off sunset maybe their customer service is better.

This place is fun. I didn’t find much on the clothing front, but they have cd’s for $ 1!!! Remember when cd’s where like $ 5 at thrift stores? Now they have become the record. I scored so many good discs, some still sealed!

Like any thrift store, it’s hit or miss in terms of what one finds. However, the people here are friendly and I almost never leave empty handed.

This place is awesome! Especially with its $ 1 tags! Sign me up! =)
I had the strangest dream the night before ending up here (for the first time). It was like premonition or something…
Anyway, as per my dream, they have discreet signs all over the place telling the discount of the different colored tags. It rotates, so every week there is a new $ 1 color, a 50% & 30% off tag. All that is very cool in my book!
The furniture items were a little on the expensive side, I will admit. But the clothing, you really can’t beat those prices!
I left with a BCBG blazer, an Ann Taylor jacket, 3 skirts, and 5 tops. Guess how much I spent!?! Guess, I dare you! .OK, I’ll tell you. My actual bill came out to about $ 27, but I got a wink and a «we’ll just call it $ 22» from the cashier. =O $ 22!!! Say what?! I would’ve spent $ 22 for the blazer alone (new, of course).
Everything is in excellent condition despite having a little bit of a thrift store funk, but I ain’t no stranger to a washing machine, so I’ll be back!
Oh, and free condoms (not that I have any need for those, just letting you know they’re there).

If you haven’t read my past reviews, I mention how I am a hopeless romantic to the NTH Degree.
What makes my hopeless romanticism unique is that I like to create elaborate packages for these gifts that I tend to give special someones. It could to a simple envelope (which took 2 hours to construct) or box (which took 4 hours to make). Now these aren’t your typical envelopes or boxes since they become your old school pop up book hybrid envelope or a box that is more a contraption than a normal box. Hmm, I have too much time on my hands.
How does Out of the Closet come to play a part in this mish mash of a review? Well Out of The Closet is the one of those stores you just have to dive in to find that needle in the haystack the diamond in the rough and whatever cliché that you can think about. I have found old wooden spoons that I have used as levers for my box to make it open. As well as certain shirts with the type of fabric that I want to use to cover said boxes. Etc etc etc. I am certain I was a toy maker in my past life.
The staff is friendly and the selection is slightly different to the dispatch center just several miles away.
Would I be back?

In every break up whether I am or they are the one doing it, I have been complimented with my gift making. I wish I was recognize more than just my gift making skills! Geeze. If only this was a skill I could have made millions from. Though I did hear the late Aaron Spelling did have a whole room dedicated to gift wrapping in his massive Spelling Manor.

I remember this place being allot more fuller with items. don’t know if it’s the times and people are more into seeing if they can get a cash return on their used clothes instead of making donations.

But I was left disappointed by the stock of clothes and all around home goods. sure I saw a set of golf clubs and my mom found a nice Ann Taylor shirt and we found the cutest doggy camping tent for foxi (which we managed to get for a lower price) but I thought the whole idea of Out of the Closet is to make money for AIDS funding so to see clearance tags was a little upsetting.
I manage to only find a really cute Asian inspired purse for $ 4.00
It was just lacking the luster it use to have a good 12 years ago, I’ve been to much «higher end» thrift stores.
Get out there and donate to Out of the Closet, it really is for a good cause!

I love this thrift store! I always find great little treasures. The mannequins wear gold lame swimsuits and I scored some fun looking t-​shirts! One of the t-​shirts has a cupcake (which I love) and another one is a Juicy Couture shirt (I’m not into labels but I made the exception because of what it say). I also found a cute school girl skirt but I didn’t buy it because I don’t want to be a missing person on milk cartons…
I suppose this would be a good spot to find halloween costumes, as there are some über fabulous looking vintage items that would normally be too flashy to wear everyday in the modern age. Overall, a very fun store to spend an hour or two shifting through!

I love that old person smell with all of the junk that people spent time browsing through. I love the displays which make it looks swank and hip. Its only till u commit to going where you realize, anything looks good on a skinny ass manniquin (Heyy.what’s you name?)
Going back to pick up a «BLANK» (in case u punks wanna snake my Shinat*. Got a coldplay and alicia keys cds for $ 2 each. I know ur not impressed but I really dont care about ur opinion. this is my Unilocal beyotch!
