Park Plaza Hotel

My very first visit came as an invitation to «The Great Gatsby Party». A celebration of music, fashion & whiskey. It was a classy event that paid homage to the Legendary Park Plaza history. The 1920’s backdrop, prohibition era, the whole Boardwalk Empire theme, you know, your basic adult shenanigans. Looking at the art deco plaza was inspiring for me, the grand column entrances, the elaborate interior detailing, the ornate stone statues, etcetera — etcetera — etcetera. Honestly, I was just glad to be a part of something this creatively tasteful. «L’Chaim»

Attended a Red Cup Sunday event here recently. I had no idea that the Park Plaza hotel existed until this year. It’s directly across from Macarthur Park located on the K-​Town side of the park. The hotel itself is no longer operational and I had my doubts when we first got there but the indoor/​outdoor spaces they use for Red Cup is not bad. The interior of the building still has that long lost Los Angeles feel to it. The chandeliers and wooden bar off in the side room are classic LA. The restrooms are clean and more than decent.
All the staff we came across were nice and Ronnie the bartender was super cool with us and our group when we needed drinks. I deducted stars for the little bit of a wait in line we had outside the gates in the heat, then again in another line once we get inside the parking lot. Also another deduction for the guys having to take off their shoes for weapons that might be hidden in them?. We were warned before the line moved that we’d have to empty our pockets and fair enough about that. But once I got to the front I was made to take off both shoes. This left me no choice but to stand on the baked-​under-​the-​sun blacktop in my white socks. Not cool. I understand the need for safety and I applaud it. But if theyre gonna do that, they should say so up front and have somewhere to stand (maybe a cushioned pad or even a door mat) on while their shoes are being inspected. That’s how I felt about that situation.
Other than those issues, it was good times. I didnt stay too long as we had other commitments but for my friends that did, i heard the place got packed and it was a good Sunday afternoon spent. Good music. Crowd was diverse and that’s always a plus. Good ratio of men and women. Might have to make a return trip before Summer is over.

We came here for a Sunday dance party. The hotel is not operational but still gorgeous. The party was outside and a great space for dancing and relaxing. Not great parking/​crowd.

I worked with the Park Plaza Hotel on a photo shoot. They were so easy to work with, quick to reply to emails and calls, and made the entire process extremely pleasant.
I must say, if you are looking for a venue for a special event, wedding, or various other creative weird crap we need locations for here in LA — The Legendary Park Plaza Hotel should be at the top of your list.
I don’t believe it is any longer being used as a hotel, and I feel I also heard it may be getting a renovation sometime soon. Not sure how to feel about that because most all of the original architecture is intact, and it is breathe taking inside and out.
Definitely look into using the Park Plaza Hotel, the gentleman running the establishment was wonderful and I highly recommend this location!

I attended The Great Gatsby party here with my girlfriends few months ago. This building is just gorgeous!!! It really felt like the 1920’s atmosphere. I wished I knew more about architecture. It’s perfect for a photo op. In the middle of the building is the grand staircase where everybody was taking pics. At the top of the stairs they have different rooms, live Jazz band on one side and the other side played Hip Hop music with a DJ. You definitely can enjoy best of both worlds! The ground floor had separate rooms which lead to the outside. People were listening to a live band and socializing. In the back is where they set up some tables and chairs, food trucks and a photo prop area. They gave us one free photo. Just a heads up… Parking was like $ 25 across the street from where the food trucks were parked!!! You’re better off finding parking elsewhere. I hope Drink Eat and Play hosts this event here next year. I had a good time and it was definitely a night to remember…

This place was exceptionally awesome and beautifull! I attended The Great Gatsby event here and I will definitely be coming back again next year. The building itself is just amazing, you have to come and check it out understand the feel of the building. You definitely would not be disappointed … On top of that if your intuitive like I am you might come across a ghost or two! Just a great experience overall attending the event and walking around the different parts of the building …

Beautiful Art Deco building with 1920s interior charm. Quintessential Los Angeles post and beam interior with hand painted ceilings. The Park Plaza is showing some wear and tear and is in dire need of cosmetic help.
My favorite ballroom is the one to the left of the grand staircase.

Great venue for the Labyrinth Masquerade Ball! The building is beautiful Art Deco. The highlight is the gorgeous stairs at the foyer. Everything about this place is beautiful! Bathrooms are eh… Hotter than heck in some rooms than others. And the place is huge! Labyrinth ball had many ballrooms open with different themes/​music/​entertainment. Really enjoyed the food trucks and the Turkish tent in the back lot.

I dealt with the onsight manager during a charity event dinner. He was quoted a price over the phone and in person. Once the work was completed he asked us to invoice him so we did. About a month later he sends us a check for half of the invoice and says thats all were gonna get after we had 2 verbal agreements for our price. This guy is shady as it gets. Even though his assistant apologized to us several times for her bosses poor actions we still were shorted 150 $ for our work .We solved the job in record speed. If your a vendor be careful dealing with these people. They think cause its beverly hills they can treat smaller companies/​vendors like dirt. If you wish to correct please call me directly at 7 148 528 716.

This is a gorgeous venue! I love the grand entrance with the grand staircase leading upstairs to the ballrooms. The chandeliers were beautiful. Only gripe with this place is the bathrooms are very much outdated.

Classy place where I attended a friend’s wedding. It was a beautiful affair and the Park Plaza really handled the whole event well. Easy to find. Easy parking. Classic LA architecture. This place is a great piece of LA history.

Although grand and beautiful in many ways, there is something eerie about this place.
First, the architecture is gorgeous. I really couldnt stop admiring the intricate designs of the steel gates. Also, the room to the left of the check in desk is stunning. Almost like a classic powder room from the 40s/​50s.
I came here to assist a photoshoot and we were setting up at the roof. The elevators are perhaps the scariest things I have ever been in. Because I was constantly moving things from the car to the roof, the elevator was necessary, but one of them, the door would close and open 20 times. Another time, the door closed and didnt move even though the floor was selected. Seemed a little freaky to me.
Also, the upper floors such as the 10^th and 11^th floor were bassically nothing but cement. Not sure if construction would be occurring or if it has been like that for ages.
Anyways, it’s a pretty neat location and it can definitely be cleaned up to be a great venue space!
One star off for difficult parking (as expected in downtown la) and the creepy elevators.

Nice hotel for a party or any other type of huge event. I came here for an award show after party, and I mainly stayed in the downstairs area. They have a bar, that I assume they do not use too often, because when the people swiped the credit card, they made me sign on their Iphone. The place is really nice though. There are tables and seats around the dance floor if you ever just want to chat with your friends or that special someone. There is also an outdoor area with heaters, so that definitely kept us warm on a cold night.
They have Valet Parking, or you can just park next door at the parking garage for $ 6 (I won’t guarantee this price will stay the same though).
I hope I will have another chance to come back here to enjoy the rest of the hotel. I’ll update again if I do.

we went for their great gatsby party (hosted by drink eat play). upstairs is the grand ballroom + bar.
entrance is HUGE with towering ceilings and elongated grandiose staircase. all decked out in art deco /​1920’s style.
downstairs — large entertaining spaces with one area that serves as a lobby/​drawing room and an outside patio for midnight danciiing. :) loved. especially with strung lights.
worth the $$$ to party here. a tip for parking — OVERCHARGED. be smart and find yourself street parking (free at night). parking garages /​lots will try to charge you 7 $ –25 $ here!

My husband and I just had our wedding ceremony and reception last September at Park Plaza and we had a great time!
I have to give TRISHA HARAKO 5 stars. She is the event coordinator for the venue and I hired her as my day of coordinator. She was extremely professional in all our interactions. Her questions were timely and she replied to all my concerns within a day or two. On the day of, I handed off my timeline to her and she took control. I was able to not worry about the production going on behind the scenes and just watch/​enjoy my wedding day unfold.
She knew we were a nervous wreck at rehearsal and the wedding day, but she totally stepped up and helped us manage the stress. I was supposed to meet her before our rehearsal and barely made it in time for the actual rehearsal. The whole family and wedding party was waiting, but she had everyone calmly waiting and took control, which really helped out us at ease. The day of the wedding, I knew I didn’t have to manage my time and let Trisha tell me where I needed to be and when. She personally lint-​rolled all the groomsmen and she helped me find creative ways to make it to the bathroom at the most inconvenient times.
I have to give a big THANK YOU to Trisha for helping me plan ahead and facilitating during the day of a very stressful event. Without her, I don’t think I could have enjoyed my guests and had such a good, memorable time.

While this iconic structure stands guard at the North-​West corner of MacArthur Park, It is now reserved strictly for private banquets and permit-​carrying film crews. Continuing on my quest to find and experience local Los Angeles places and images captured in Nicolas Winding Refn’s movie: Drive; I discovered that various shots were filmed at this location by watching key scenes in the movie a countless number of times and formulating shooting angles of the camera.
Park Plaza Hotel was the shooting location for Irene’s and Driver’s apartments which were on the 4^th floor of the Hotel’s tower. Although, this is no longer a real functioning hotel, the makeshift apartments captured key images of looking down on MacArthur Park, the silhouette skyline of Downtown Los Angeles, and the geometric design of the Lofts located at the American Cement Building.
While I didn’t have any luck making it to the 4^th floor of the Park Plaza Hotel to see if the apartments facades actually looked as they did in the movie, I did have great timing to be able to see the building’s interior. Namely the main entrance, lobby, and several ballrooms. The lobby doors were open, but guarded by a security person who said only people with permits could be allowed to the upper floors. You could tell it was being scouted by several wedding planners at the time.

In the movie, the apartments were shot as if there was a large underground parking structure with that ever-​so graphically identifiable elevator scene. I was disappointed to find out that the Park Plaza Hotel has no underground parking lot. I am assuming that the underground parking lot shoot was done in the neighboring American Cement Lofts’ parking structure.
The building is architecturally fascinating, as it is guarded by various knight and angel gargoyles. It is meticulously kept in an area that is not known to be particularly known for safety or having so many key landmark locations that are easily identifiable: The lake at MacArthur Park, the Westlake Theater, and now the Park Plaza Hotel.

While movies tend to have a bad stereotype of making someone a couch potato, this particular movie personally motivated me to get up from the couch and explore various LA landmarks. «Yeah, I Drive.»

GORGEOUS hotel. It’s old, worn and beautiful. We came here for an event and I was caught up in the details from the ceiling to the walls. While the color palette is lacking, this place is a blank canvas for those with some imagination. Done right and it is beautiful.
There was a small catering staff and I wasn’t sure if they were in house or not, but the few we chatted with were very friendly and helpful.
Some caveats, the lighting in some places are very dark, so photography can be a little complex and the restrooms are a bit aged, but passable.
I’d love to go to another event here.

This location is optimal if you have a very high guest count (200+) and enjoy the idea of having a blank canvas to decorate to your heart’s content. The location is large and spacious, and the architectural details of the building are very nice. Their catering packages are decent, and the pricing is average. There is a lot of space that you can rent and utilize. It was a bit too large for me, with the high ceilings and columns, this place is suited for very formal events. We were looking for a cozier, more intimate reception, so it did not suit our tastes. All the walls are quite bare and the overall color is beige/​tan. We would have had to bring all the color and life ourselves, and with so much space to cover, that would have gotten very expensive, very quickly. I will say though, that their event coordinator Trisha was very welcoming and very efficient, answering all our questions. They can provide references for any type of vendor you may need.
What bothered me most about this venue though, was not the venue itself, but the location that it is at. It’s right next to MacArthur park, which provides a pretty nice view, but the nearby buildings are shabby and the streets reek of urine. It just wasn’t the right environment for our wedding.

Hotel is located in Los Angeles, in the neighborhood Westlake. A bit shady neighborhood, but this hotel is kept clean and new. Hotel was built between 1923−24…and dang, it still looks fantastic from the exterior to interior. Friends and I had a blast!

Pretty pretty pretty pretty PRETTY!!!
Everything here is so pretty! Which is surprising considering the scary park across the street. But once you’re inside it’s so extravagantly beautiful that you just know that place has been a dream-​come-​true for every bride that has planned her wedding since she was a little girl.

Every single room that I walked into (the main entrance, the wedding hall, the reception hall) my eyes widened and mouth dropped in amazement. WOWWW!!! I wish I knew about architecture and design so I could use better descriptive words than «NIIIIIIICE!!!» So much detail too. There were beautiful patterns on the wood beam ceilings in the wedding hall. The reception hall was especially cool because there were 3 tiers of dining areas and the different levels made it easy to view all reception activity. Great for a large guest list.
Hands down, out of all the weddings I’ve attended this place is by far the most elegantly beautiful!
