Patricia Pope, PhD

I have been seeing Dr. Pope for many years, now. She has helped me overcome problematic issues and destructive behavior in my business life as well as my personal life. I am such a different person because of her help, skill, and dedication. I have a great life — inside and out — and will forever be grateful for the person who referred me to Dr. Pope. She is direct, honest, and solution-​based. She has also referred me to several excellent MDs for treatment outside of her specialty. I recommend Dr. Pope to anyone who is truly willing to change in order to have a fulfilling and peaceful life. She will show you how. And when you do it, you will see for yourself!

I started seeing Dr. Pope in January, 2013. I have seen her mostly on a regular basis so I am very in tune with how she works nearly 3 years later. I originally went to see Dr. Pope because of marital problems and major anxiety about my situation with my husband. After seeing many therapists previously and never really seeming to get REAL answers or results about my situation she pinned my problems right away. I was in full denial and my husband was an active alcoholic. I was a mess! I was creating more issues in the marriage due to my enabling, fear and all that goes with being a spouse of an alcoholic. Because of Dr. Pope’s therapy and her added advice to immediately go to Alanon, I began to learn what I was contributing to the marriage, the disease and how the disease was effecting me, my anxiety, and my own behaviors. I began to change myself and become happier. Ultimately my husband just a few months later after my own behavioral changes stopped drinking on his own. This is rare maybe, but I feel without her this may not have been possible. While my husband and I ultimately split for so many reasons, my children will hopefully grow up with a sober dad. This is a blessing. She has an extensive knowledge about addictions, personality disorders and behavioral therapy. I highly recommend her to you. One thing you should know she tells you like it is. One negative reviewer mentioned she is direct (as I notice his profile pic is a beer glass? Hmm.) YES! She will speak the truth even if it may seem harsh to hear. Be prepared to handle it. This is how you will begin to heal. If you aren’t ready to learn the truth about yourself and how you can help yourself why bother to go to therapy in the first place? She truly cares. Dr. Pope can be a lifesaver!

My husband and I went to her for 3 sessions — I felt uncomfortable after each. I felt less hopeful about our marriage after the sessions than before. Each time we
went she was late and with another couple, who we awkwardly ran into. When we left we were also late and ran into the next couple. During the sessions, she answered her phone — even when we were in some critical point of our discussion. She directed the conversation to suit her own needs. She made quick judgements about what was happening and discounted any thoughts or different ideas. She actually told me that I made her angry although I had not spoken very much because she kept interrupting and redirecting the conversation. I got the impression she was charmed by my husband — which didn’t help anything. Finally, after being terribly misheard and misunderstood by her, I told her that I didn’t agree with her interpretation of what was going on in the sessions or with our marriage. She got defensive and looked at me like I was crazy. She’s pretty insulting and thinks she’s smarter than. She kept bringing up her degrees. When I called to let her know we would not be returning — guess what? She answered the phone while in someone else’s session! I asked if she was in session — her response? «Yes, but its okay, I’ll just go over time».

I started coming to dr pope about 1 ½ months ago at the time I was really depressed had major anxiety and had panic attacks about 2 – 3 times daily she helped me a lot during these past couple of weeks with what I was going threw and she still is helping me I am not fully recovered yet and I still have panic attacks and still have major anxiety but my depression had gotten better then it was when I first came to see dr pope and she continues to help me with my recovery when I am in an session with her she puts all her attention on me and my illness and gives me good feed back on my progression from my experience with her it had been nothing but good things. Thank u dr. Pope for all ur help

I saw her for a little more than a month. I felt her to be direct and judgmental. I am of the opinion that a psychologist is one person who shouldn’t be judging u but rather helping u. She did answer the phone whenever she got a call and kept recollecting a lot of her personal and other patient’s stories. My main reason to go her was so i dint want to take medications and wanted insights. But she turned out to be the opposite of what I expected in a psychologist and kept pushing me towards medications. Also in every session she promised to give me material but ended up giving nothing. I consider this whole exercise mostly futile as she only reaffirmed things I suspected about myself but dint help me in any real way. In short it was waste of time and money.

I saw her for a few week. I always felt uneasy after our sessions. She always answered the phone during sessions. At times she would have her phone placed in between us. Please don’t waste your time with her. She is not interested in helping anyone.

I saw this therapist weekly for about six months, and it has been a little while since. Patricia Pope is a confused elderly lady. She enjoys gossip and talks about her other patients. She constantly answers her telephone during sessions. She recruits patients from AA meetings. I am glad that I found another therapist who is more knowledgeable and much more professional than Patricia Pope. I wonder why I put up with her as long as I did.
