Playa Del Oro

I lived there for 4 years. It seemed so nice and is a great location. It’s literally a dorm. There’s a reason 18 year old freshmen live in a building on campus with a resident assistant. The OTIS students are everywhere and act like typical college students… Which is incredibly not fun if you aren’t a college student and want to sleep at night. I called curtesy patrol more times than I can count (good guys), but it was just a one day fix. It was constant parties, screaming, and loud music. Even when I called management with specific units that were the issues, they acted annoyed by me and did nothing. Even if they wanted to help, the dorm rooms are all over the complex. As long as they are renting to OTIS, it won’t be tolerable. It steadily went downhill during the time I was there so I can imagine it may have even gotten worse. The last 6 months I was counting the hours until I could leave.

Beware of this place if you want a secure building. My bike was stolen from the bike racks even though it was locked. I’ve heard the same from other residents. That has never happened to me anywhere I’ve lived prior. The main reason is that the security setup/​staff quality is completely unacceptable.
Where do I start, the car gates to the community are open ²⁴⁄₇ while the incompetent person who is a pathetic excuse for a security guard plays on his/​her iPhone or better yet is not in the security booth. Forget about someone actually greeting you like at a true luxury community. The guards don’t even look at who is entering. Recently, while entering the community after work, I saw the guard with his feet up, laid back, playing on his iPhone.
Frankly, it would be better to have the gate closed and everyone has to click to get in. I rather take the extra time to do this and have a more secure community as I’m sure most of the residents would.
Ownership/​Management: fix the security problem or people won’t want to live here!!!

What a great looking apartment!
Until you try to lease it and the leasing agent listens to nothing you say, charges you twice the application fee and is still incompetent on move in day giving you no information.
After having problem after problem, including: them giving you only one set of keys and trying to make you pay for a second when there are two people on your lease, cutting the key wrong, making you wait in the office for 30 minutes while they cut the key, being accused of trying to break into the apartment complex when you are trying to come home because no one bothered to give you a parking pass when you moved in, I have complained numerous times to numerous people. And the answer is always the same, «It is not my responsibility», «I don’t care», «I’m sorry you feel that way». In fact I have had people who work here walk away from me in the middle of a conversation, roll their eyes at me, and not speak to me when I enter the office.
As other people have said there is no one here to manage the property, and for a place with at least a few hundred people living in it, it’s truly surprising that they have no one to manage the largest of issues.
The bottom line is, if you are paying over 2000 dollars a month for an apartment you are paying for service or at the very least to be able to come home and park in your parking spot without being questioned. Look elsewhere if you want an easy living experience, or a place that cares about you as a customer or human being… Playa Del Oro does not.

Christopher is superb as new manager. He is a great leader, friendly, positive and very easy to talk to. along with entire staff. This is a class A property and have great amenities.

No one has followed up. No one has apologized. This is absolutely extraordinary. Part of what we pay for here is customer service. This is quite appalling.

We have been living here for a year now and unfortunately agreed to continue our lease for another year. When we first moved in last summer I loved the woman who was working in the office and sadly a few weeks later she was gone. Now every time I’m in the office there are new people working there who get ruder each and every time. I have people who yell off of their balconies at all hours of the night asking who is the person smoking when people are allowed to smoke on their own balconies. We had an issue with noise above us to the point that I was feeling anxiety and the office manager basically told us to cancel our lease and that they apartment would get turned around to another person within five days and they didn’t care at all if we stayed or left. Just ridiculous!!! Today I was woken up to a woman screaming at her spouse in which I was worried about her well being and since 9am this morning until now with multiple calls being made no one answered the phone in the office all day which is again ridiculous! They have multiple staff members in the office all day yet apparently no one can pick up the phone. It is also very annoying that they NEVER let you know if you have a package you have to call and get no answer which means going into the office to find out and if told there is no package it’s a waste of my time.

I have lived in the original Playa del Oro apartments for over 5 years (building 1). As you could imagine, I was excited for the second phase to FINALLY open.
OH. MY. GOD. Problem, after problem after problem. There isn’t even a property manager at this location and requests have been painfully and unlawfully fulfilled (entered apartment WITHOUT permission and tried to cover it up that they entered). I moved in July 10^th and I still have a list of issues that haven’t been fixed or even acknowledge beyond initial request (broken garbage disposal, no washer/​dryer for a month, nails sticking up out of carpet because it’s so poorly constructed, water damage in dining room where they had to cut 2 in. x 2 in. hole in my ceiling (FAILED to notify me this would happen and FAILED to get permission to enter my apartment), refrigerator LITERALLY fell apart, etc.)
I could go on for days, but know that you are paying SO much more monthly for the Phase 2 and they have DOWNGRADED the appliances and construction of each apartment SIGNIFICANTLY.
Seriously horrible and upsetting experience as I have been happy (for the most part) in Building 1 of Playa del Oro for the past half decade…

Been here for five months now and completely underwhelmed. The staff is extremely unhelpful. These has especially been an issue with the steam room in the bathroom which had been broken for about 3 of the 5 months I have been living here. I have emailed and called management countless times about getting it fixed but have heard no reply or any type of communication.

I never live in this community even one day (till now) but it’s interesting that how I can write a rightful review about it.
Me and my wife visit this apartment two times (meet Ms. April (leasing consultant) both times) we’re looking for a 1 bed unit and we had opportunity to check three unit and we feel ok about one of them. Two days after, we went to re-​check the unit and pay the application fee to reserve it. Story begins here, Ms. April told us that she could not find the key of that particular unit and she will check with her colleagues and let us know that when we can come back and apply.
Two days after, we didn’t get any news so we stopped by and again ask Ms. April about the unit and the key. It was shocking that before she check her files or computer, she quickly told us that the unit has been gone and someone already paid the application fee and they will move in next 5 day.s.
We got a little bit upset but were wondering that it was our fault.
My wife is an amazing web surfer and start looking through Internet to find new apartments maybe in other cities of LA to visit next weekend. After 4 days, she suddenly checked Playa del Oro to compare prices but she found an interesting unit, same unit that we liked, but 120 $ more.
We shocked and so angry. All of that games because of 120 $ per months and that was their fault.
We move from home county to US to find and live in a peaceful and deal with honest people in community, it was a very rare unfortunate event and I never recommend to live in a place which owners and staff are considering your pocket instead of yourself.

I lived in a one-​bedroom unit here for a few weeks (as part of a work relocation package).
This place is crawling with FLEAS. I was bitten multiple times on both legs; I counted over 30 bites on my right leg alone. I also saw fleas clinging to my ankles and socks. During dinner one night, a flea even jumped into my soup.
In addition to the flea infestation, there are many other reasons that made this place very uncomfortable to live in.
— My apartment smelled strongly of plastic, and I felt ill whenever I stayed indoors for long.
— The plumbing is noisy. Whenever I used water (turning on faucets or flushing toilet), a low bassoon-​like sound would follow.
— The apartment architecture (garage layout, location of ingress/​egress, location of mailboxes, placement of switches inside apartment) is confusing and inconvenient. Good luck finding your way to the gym and pool.
— Barking dogs.
The only redeeming features were trash-​chutes located on every level, TCM included with the cable, and the apartment’s proximity to Bristol Farms.

I’ve lived a Playa Del Oro for the past four years of my college life. Up until this year everything was great. Now that all the staff changed, everything just went downhill. Estella before she left Playa was amazing. I went a month before my lease to extend my lease and signed all the paper work. Everything was done. Two weeks before the end of my lease I constantly recieved phone calls telling me my lease was up and that I need to move out immediately. Playa you really need to update the information on your computer because i extended my lease. After I moved out, I sent a check for the NWP service. I recieved a call a few days later telling me they deducted the charges from my security deposit and that they were going to void my check and shread it. There is nothing on my contract that tells me that you guys were going to deduct the last payment from my security deposit. Overall, this place is so unorganized.

Gaquail is awesome!!! He is always so helpful and even carried my package to my room!!! He is amazing Playa is lucky to have him!

Do not move in!!! if you want to live in trouble and live with troublesome neighbours!!!
Worst apt ever!!! if I could marked no star, I would do that!!!
The staff working in the office here is very very impolite. They will help you only if you pay first. Everything requires payment!!! If you are not happy about their «service», oh no~~~~ They will revenge you in a very very polite way, such as guiding you to your apt Detoured, while you have super heavy luggages! Everyone working in this office consider themselves as «upper level» gold collar workers, and they probably do not have any time to deal with «student problems». Is that because you think as a student, my property is not capable enough as other «adult residents»? You think wearing Hermes belt is the symbol of success? Too young too naïve. Even the staff of Brioni would never ever treat me like this!
Also, they will keep writing you emails, knocking your door… because one of my lovely neighbours is complaining about the noises. OMG!!! For these months living here, I kept the same life style, quiet, non-​smoking, always sleep before 1 am. This peaceful life ends until one day I directly complained to someone living downstairs at 1 am when he was telephoning in his balcony. After that day, I received «voice complain» from one of my neighbours. Come on, I do what I did as normal!!!
However, I am done with this horrible apt! I do not want to live here anymore, and I am not going to recommend to any other friends or anyone who is intending to live here.
Good luck to those who plane to live here.

Disabled tenant being kicked out of house and home by Playa del Oro apartments.
The tenant pays required rent and pays required utilities. PDO has delivered notice to vacate with no explanation, they only state that they have the right to terminate.
They are preparing to reprogram her gate clicker and her electronic elevator call key, Effectively making it impossible for her to even have access to her apartment front door. There is strong evidence that Decron the landowners receive government subsidies for creating badly needed housing, but there seems to be no obligation to obey the law requiring fair housing and equal opportunity. It seems their image does not include people that don’t look right…
Shame on this place.

I’m currently in the market to rent an apartment. Thought this one had a nice look to it and was in my price range, so I set a 1pm appointment with a leasing agent (Joshua). At 1:20 there was still nobody in their leasing office. Completely unprofessional! If this is how they treat you when they want to earn your business… I can’t imagine how poorly they treat you once they have you in a 1 year contract. Just horrible.

I would just like to update my review of Playa Del Oro as I have found that the new manager, Brittany, has been doing an exceptional job in the management office. Along with Brittany, she has surrounded herself with an excellent and professional office staff, including Edward and Josh. By keeping all tenants informed of special events, repairs, restaurant openings and food events, the new management have proven without, that they are concerned for all tenants and their well-​being.

Worst apartment complex ever!!!
This apartment complex has so many issues like:
–the elevator next to my apartment and give my access to go anywhere (garage, pool, common areas, and obviously my apartment) has been BROKEN for the past week. They obviously don’t understand how terrible it is because the stairs are an exit only. If I park in the garage I cannot get up to my apartment through the stairs. WTF?!? I would have to walk all the way through the garage around the building to an entrance and then through the complex to an elevator up the elevator around my building to my apartment. This is the biggest inconvenience. FIX IT ALREADY
–the fire alarm goes off all the time, even in the middle of the night. and doesn’t stop! How are we suppose to know when there’s a real fire?!
–appliances and furnishings break all the time!!! My blinds, the toilet, my air conditioner (fix after fix)
–they only have one small jacuzzi for a huge complex. It’s always busy at night.
–they close the pool at 10!!! They should just have a noise limit at night, not close it down.
–the gym is terrible! The cardio machines are old and rusted or something. There is not one mat! How do you do ab workouts on a wood floor? Also, they have NO weights. ZERO! Oh wait no someone recently donated three sets of light women’s weights… great. Get some actual equipment in it!
–last, but certainly not least they lie about prices!!! My boyfriend and I were interested in switching apartments. He called said he lived there and wanted to switch. They have him a ridiculous number, like 2600 for a one bedroom. That same day I called saying I would be a new resident and they said 2100!!! I was shocked and pissed. Because of all these actions and disappointments we decided to stay in our same apartment and NOT switch to avoid signing a new lease do we can get the f$;& out

Today, I took my son to check into his college apartment at Playa Del Oro (it has three other guys residing with him). The Residential Advisor from Otis, who came to take us into his room of residence, said that his fellow roommates were nice, neat and organized. She also told us that she inspects the room on a regular basis to make sure it’s clean and well-​kept.
Walking through the outdoors and into the elevator, we saw what could be described as a quality resort (including a nice pool area, BBQ, and dog walk). Going through the inside hallways we viewed a gym and office printer area. We were quite excited about him residing there.
Then we got to his room and everything crumpled. Walking into it, we saw an apartment that looked like it had been ransacked. The kitchen had a smell that reeked through every inch of the living space. There was dirt, dust, spots, and items left on the floors, cabinets, tables and dressers. Entering into what would have been his bedroom, he had just one drawer in the dresser (although his roommate did say he would remove his socks from one of them), a closet filled with the other guy’s stuff, and less space then a jail cell to walk around and gather his own things.
While the price of this room is about $ 4000 a month (his share being at least a thousand), what I witnessed made me cringe as I thought of him residing in a tenement – little room, low in quality, and the lacking of sanitary conditions. Leaving the facility to go get his items in our car, I asked him if he really wanted to stay, and after hesitating – he said «no.»
As a retired parent (who put away money for his son’s residency), you always want what is best for your children regarding safety, quality, sanitation, and resources. In the case of Playa Del Ora, based upon our experience, none of those would apply.
