This place sucks, very bad customer service! By the look of it the owners are not the same. Very rude and unfriendly staff! This place needs a intervention, food sucks ! Never again !

So I stopped by here for some breakfast, my boyfriend had mentioned the chilaquiles were really good so me being a fan I had to try them. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very nice man who I assume owns the restaurant. They were so welcoming and asked me to sit anywhere I’d like unfortunately it was to early and cold for me so I just ordered to go. I ordered red chilaquiles with scrambled egg and an orange juice, the chilaquiles were done in no more than 15 minutes and the juice is freshly squeezed you can taste the pulp! The chilaquiles were amazing, spicy, crunchy, and good servings of rice, beans and egg. Definitely will be back to try some other items on the menu! The family who owns the restaurant has done a good job on making you feel at home when walking in!

I went here for lunch after a coworker recommended it to me. This is my first visit to LA and had no idea where to dine. Being a Mexican food fanatic, I had to try this place. I ordered 2 crispy chicken tacos with rice and beans. The entrée came with fresh avocado slices and a lentil soup. Just a note that you don’t get free refills on soda. They come in cans. This seems to be a local longstanding restaurant since my coworker said this was her father’s fave place when she was very young(over 30 years ago). It’s not the cleanest dining area but the food and fresh ingredients more than make up for that. The salsa is very spicy and the tomato and carrot flavor rocks. There is a bit of a language barrier with the staff if you’re not Spanish speaking, and a dollar charge for using a debit/credit. All-in-all a good experience.

Tried this place to support a local business in the neighborhood… Food was ehh… Can’t even make a decent margarita??! Wow… it was super weak, used with the cheapest liquor and mixer. How embarrassing. So disappointing!!! :-/

Haven’t been here in years. The restaurant it self was very clean. The bathroom was so clean. Now about the food. I had the torta de Milinesa. Really tender and crunchy. Came with fries. My mom had three different Tacos, carne asada, carnitas and pastor. My mom said the flavors were on point and the meat was tender. They piled on the meat ! My bf had a green burrito. The green chill was just the right amount of heat and the meat was soft. Good place to go.

They were up for sale, but now the sign is gone. What does it mean? Next time, I’ll ask. Service is solid. Prices are good, especially at lunch.(This is a family sit-down restaurant, and it’s less expensive than a Denny’s.) The sauces are really good, particularly the red sauce, which has a rich sweetness and a deep chile flavor. All the sauces are delicious. The chile sauce on the enchiladas seems to be made at the restaurant. It has that«new» flavor. The food generally displays a lot of technique. It’s not«fancy» but they make it well. I once had an egg torta here with the fluffiest eggs, ever. At other places, they give you this thin omelette that’s a little browned. At Porky’s it’s like a fluffy scrambled egg that’s cooked perfectly. Technique is what justifies expensive restuarants’ higher prices. Speaking of technique — awesome beans. Memorable. Just thinking about them makes me want to eat there. The rice, eh. So so: but better than most.

Soooo, before I go onto my Porky’s review, I’d like to clear a few things up. First, their category isn’t barbeque, it’s mexican. Also, the website posted on here isn’t the correct website for Porky’s Restaurant. I don’t think Porky’s restaurant has a website… Aaaaanyway, I’ve been to this establishment about five times and the first four times were the best ever! See, I’m on this mission to find the best taquitos de guacamole and this place was right up there. The meat in the tacos was so moist and flavorful, the tortilla nice and crispy and the guacamole rich and delicious. Mmm… Their beans and rice are very authentic and delicious. Their caldo de pollo is really good as well as their burritos mojados. So here’s the part with my last experience at Porky’s. I was craving the taquitos this weekend so we headed over. As soon as we walk in we’re greeted by a gust of hot air coming out from the restaurant, wth, No A/C? So, we walk over to a table and the waitress walks over with a bowl of chips and kinda drops the bowl on the table. A few chips fell out onto the table and instead of picking them up and taking them away, she picks them up and drops them back in the chip bowl. Eww… Hope the tables were just cleaned. Anyway, we ordered and get our food and there is no more than a tablespoon of guacamole on my taquitos. Was it even guacamole? It was nothing but chopped onions, tomatos, cilantro and a hint of avocado… The meat in the taquitos was dry and slightly burnt and the tortilla was way too hard. Booooo! Other than that, the rice and beans and my bf’s mojarra was good. I don’t know if it was this daytime cook or just an off day for Porky’s but I’d give them another chance. I’ll just make sure to come closer to the evening next time.

Porky’s has been a family go to restaurant since my grandparents have been going back in the early 70’s. My Grandparents have certain standards they would NOT break or dip under, 1) Good service 2) great food 3) cleanliness! after hearing from them that they were regular patrons there, i figured, if it meets their standards, it’s gotta be decent. So i walked in by myself one cold day back in November of 1999 and have gone back ever since. Their décor is traditional mexican. Their service is great and the waitresses are sweet. But most important… The food is great. Everything served there is very traditional. Their rice and beans are very good and that is ALWAYS a good sign of a good mexican restaurant because, if they can’t get the 2 basic staples down?, then youre in for some craptastic mexican food. Their salsas are made in house and are very good and tasty. Their carnitas are very well prepared and flavorful making anything they’re in albeit a burrito or taco or tostada, it makes it amazing. If you like chicharron simmered in chile then this place will satisfy your inner mexican because it’s made just like our abuelitas did it. If you’re in East L. A cruising whittier blvd and get that craving for some authentic mexican dining, head down and enjoy a dining experience at Porky’s.

I’ve been here 2 or 3 times and I really enjoyed the fried tilapia fish. They even served it in a fish shaped plate. I got my fish with french fries and rice. The perfect plate haha. The fish tasted great each time I went there. The restaurant is clean and surprisingly so is the restroom. Most of the time the restrooms in restaurants in East Los Angeles are filled with graffiti. But not this one, it was pretty clean.

Was craving tacos on the way home from work, decided to just get off the freeway and find a random taco stand in East LA and ended up here. There are certain tell tale signs that I look for that lead me to believe that I will enjoy my visit to a Mexican restaurant: Latino/a patrons dining, check; blaring Mexican music or Mexican novellas/soap operas on the TV,(both) check; and of course a health code rating of B, check. The décor was nothing remarkable but the dining area and restroom were very clean. They did have an abundance of very cool palm frond bladed ceiling fans blowing throughout the restaurant. I ordered a la carte because of the taco craving and added a side of beans to dip my chips in. I wish I knew my Diet Coke was gonna come in a can ’cause I would have ordered an iced tea instead for refill purposes. 2 carne asada and 1 carnitas. Definitely authentic tasting which satisfied my craving but the carnitas were a little on the bland side. There was not a lack of freebies that came along w/the meal(chips and salsa, limes, pickled carrots and jalapenos, sliced radishes) which added to the Mexi-fare experience. For less than 9 bucks I left very full and satisfied.

Lets start at the beginning. Parking — in the alley shared with 2 other business. Service and attentiveness was very good. Décor — Good. The Food: I ordered the Carnitas — under the assumption from a review of our local NPR Radio Station was the Main Item to try. Being called Porky’s you’d think the pork out to be good. It was dry. Carnitas are juicy and oily — theirs were dry and unsalted. The portion, considering the price $ 9, was not that good. Note — there’s also a charge on debit cards for orders under $ 10. And they do not accept credit cards here. Overall — It may be a historical an themed restaurant — but the food was not impressive at all. They should definitely charge less for what they serve. Go to Lilianas Tamales on Cesar Chavez Ave for better food and prices.
