Rocket Fizz Soda Pop & Candy Shop

Still was one of my favorite candy stores but, this store closed down a little while back.

Rocket Fizz is undoubtedly the best soda shop in West LA (I’m not sure if this is a highly competitive avenue in this century but honestly, whatever…). I’ve been a huge loyalist to Galco’s but given it’s location, It would be completely absurd of me to shlep myself from Playa Vista to Highland Park for a case of Fizzy Drinks. It would only make sense for me to work with what I have and fortunately, if you’re living in the the Santa Monica area Rocket Fizz is a GREAT option.
The variety is outstanding. The store carries a huge variety of sodas. The choices range from Dr. Brown’s diet cream soda to bacon cola. All varieties run the same price which I believe is somewhere in the two dollar ballpark range. Since Sodas are sold individually the store does offer a mix and match deal which is awesome for sampling interesting looking flavors (which I like given my fear of commitment). The store also offers a huge selection of their sodas cold which is great if you’re picking up a Sammie at nearby Bristol Farms.
As assumed from the name, the store doubles as a candy shop. While the selection is definitely not as extensive as store catering exclusively to candy you will surely find something you’re going to like or liked as a small child. As an overweight child that gorged herself silly more often than not, I was able to easily able to find something that satisfied my sweet teeth within about two feet of the entrance. The store also carries a pretty extensive selection of imported British sweetsys that is somewhat in the same ballpark as the food shop connected to The Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica (which is a personal fave). While I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to get candy at this store I typically grab something if I’m getting a couple sodas.
I typically have a lot to say about customer service but this store doesn’t sway me one way or the other. I’ve gone in a few times to employees really unenthused about working there and other times my experience has been positive. The atmosphere is really pleasant and I’ve found the store very clean. No complaints.
Overall, really nice store with great selection. If you’re in the area I’d highly recommend you check it out.
Pros: great selection of regular and diet colas, later hours, frequent buyer card, clean and very kid friendly
Cons: parking can be a hassle at times, pricey, not Galco’s

We stopped by never hearing of the place. My kids had fun picking out a basket full of unique candies and chocolates. Reminded me of the old liquor stores in the 80’s. Maybe the should look into selling garbage pail kids too. We had fun. The prices were a little high on some items that you can find at other shops but really fun store to have around.

I’m glad that there’s a location fairly close by, since the next closest location is quite far from me. It is like a dream come true for nostalgic candy and soda lovers.
The owner is a sweet blonde lady who is obviously passionate about her business. She is lovely in so many ways.
The selection of candies and sodas are amazing! I have to space out my visits here, so I don’t go overboard, but I look forward to visiting again the next time I am nearby.

Although I love the charm of Galco’s, it’s in Pasadena and I’m here on the Westside.
But this place… YES!!! I am not a soda guy, EXCEPT for a Black Cherry Soda obsession (and from time to time I like a good root beer).
This place has over a DOZEN Black Cherry soda brands (more than Galco’s, actually), and there are several tiers of prices you can pay (the more you buy, the cheaper it gets). I think $ 2 is a bit high for soda, but since I bought an entire case, and given the fact that they have so much variety, something had to give.
The owners (I believe the married couple are the owners) were very nice, extremely knowledgeable, and walked all over the store with me to get every single brand of Black Cherry Soda they had — very cool people!

I am seriously obsessed with this place! Sure, some of the chocolates you could get at your local Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods or even Vons, but there’s something awesome about being somewhere that sells everything from M&M’s to Milka.
Almost every free inch of space is taken by a case of gourmet soda. I literally have never seen so many different types of pop in my life. In an age inundated with Diet Pepsi this and Coke Zero that, it was refreshing to find cream sodas and root beers made with real cane sugar. Yes, they contain calories, but also chemicals I recognize in the ingredients list. We picked up a couple of Sprecher’s as well as a non-​alcoholic butterbeer (just to complete the walk down Nostalgia Boulevard).
The best part is that the fun does not end with the soda! The Asian snack and candy section made me jump up for joy and throw up a V-​sign! Finally, a place where I can get lychee Pocky and green tea Kit Kat without having to buy it through Amazon or go to Asia! While some of the candies and cookies you can get at 99 Ranch, most Asian supermarkets in California won’t carry the special or limited edition flavors that Rocket Fizz has. Gleefully, I grabbed handfuls of the green tea Fran (Fran is Pocky on steroids and difficult to find in even the best Japanese grocers)!
Basically, Rocket Fizz was the highlight of my day at Westwood, even more so than Diddy Riese’s!

I’m soooo happy that this shop opened up in Westchester! I visit every time I’m in the area to pick up a drink! …or a 6 pack!
They have every bottled soda imaginable! AND you can create your own 6-​pack! Each bottle is about $ 2… and worth it! They even have some Dublin Dr. Pepper left!

Sweet tooth was upon me and I wanted SUGAR! In the area — kinda — and used good O’ Unilocal for recommendations nearby… and wahhhhLAAAH!

Did you see the ref’s full of SODAS? Many, many different brands and flavors… from lemons, oranges, strawberries, to root beers, dr peppers and bacon?!! Yes, BACON!!!
Taffy’s galore… a whole shizz load of it in many colors and flavors.
I purchased like 4 different flavored Ramune’s soda drink, including a Hello Kitty and Bacon Soda. Also got this weird candy called Satellite Wafers… kinda cool with candy sprinkles on the inside. The wafer would melt in your mouth like I was eating the body of _​_​_​_​nevermind. And then the sprinkles would be crunchy and hard, kind of addicting now. Lastly, bought chocolate covered gummies and various hard candies.
Well anyway, sugar goodness… I can’t even break it down and tell you all they have, you would have to stop in if you are in the neighborhood.

My review number 400 is full of fizz and sugary excitement. This shop is like a personal temple to all your 5^th grade after-​school dreams. (And I almost want to spell that as ‘Shoppe.’)
SODA:
Most, if not all, of these delightfully combustible comestibles use Cane Sugar — what’s been used in the past, and now is making a major comeback — replacing all of those tasteless chemicals that crept into so much of today’s sodas.
I found more original-​flavored soda pop here than ever imagined. F’rinstance: I counted no less than TEN different Black Cherry sodas*. I saw a Pineapple Orange; I drooled and dawdled over so many of these that I nearly got ejected —- well, not really. The clerks here are very patient and understanding. Lord love ‘em.
In fact, I would love to just hang out at Rocket’s to watch everyone else walk in for their first visit. Pure joy abounds. It’s as dreamy as Mr Wonka’s factory, I’m sure. But here, everyone’s got a Golden Ticket. I took home and tried Avery Orange Soda — with bits of pulp. Mmm. And, as a grownup, I’m happy to report it makes an Excellent Mixer!
CANDY:
Found stuff I thought never existed. And also, candies I vaguely recall growing up with. ‘Bun,’ anyone? Yet, Rocket isn’t just stuck in the past. Among the giant Tootsie Rolls and random Ferrera Pan offering, they have new stuff that will catch your eye. Even a Mario-​branded type hard candy, Spidey, Barbie and non-​character candies, too. There’s even an International area. Europe is represented nicely. Really, Rocket goes on and on, and I can’t wait to return.

*I got Hank’s Gourmet (Wishniak) Black Cherry Soda. This was recommended by one of the experts at Rocket. It’s chilling in my fridge right now, awaiting a special moment to be opened. I’m ready to celebrate!

My pockets spontaneously burst into flames and all my money pours out whenever I come near this place — it must be the copious amounts of sugar that are for sale in all types of flavors and forms.
The sodas are great:
Dublin Dr. Pepper (the way to melt the heart of any true DP-​lover)
Bundaberg guava soda
And so are the candies:
all the wonka candy you know and love like nerds and Spreeeeeeee!
tons of chocolate (try the Ice Cubes — they’re like nuggets of Magic Shell!)
I even liked the free piece of key lime taffy I got.
You can also pick up memorabilia-​like trinkets for gifts or if you like collecting junk.

slap me & pinch me. but did i just die and go to heaven?! i know i must be dreaming because this is like paradise. i wish the owner was actually a baby, so just like the saying… «like taking candy from a baby» would be true. i would take, steal & pillage from this store so that i could try everything! it’ll even help my wallet too.
i paid $ 8.99 for 6 soda. i know its expensive, but for the variety and uniqueness of the sodas, i really don’t mind. If you buy in bulk, it becomes cheaper. its about 2 bucks per soda, but the more you buy the cheaper it becomes. i must come back here to try all the different flavors! black cherry, pumpkin pie, orange cream, vanilla soda, lots of different diets… they have about 3 full sized refrigerators of just drinks.
they also have a HUGE selection of candy. i got this weird mint chocolate that had small air pockets in it. it was like eating a cloud… made out of mint. yum!
The owners are super friendly and will help you pick something out. Talk to them, i promise they won’t bite!
Parking is a little difficult, so i parked in the bristol farms lot and just walked over.

Wow!!! This place took me right back to my childhood. Love love love it. The best place to take the kids right before the movies or after a hard day at school.
So many fun little gifts too. Definitely worth the trip up the hill to Westchester.

What fun we had here!
My little one is learning how to count money, so I took her there. She counted all her pennies, nickels & dimes and searched through all the candy to maximize her money. She is starting to get it, which leaves us both happy.
Also, got a can of whoopass for the next person that pushes me a little too hard…
The only downside is it is a little pricey as others have testified. But, I’ll be back in a heartbeat.

So Amazing and so much fun! Even after you spend an hour there you still haven’t seen it all! We have a great time looking at all of the neat candy and soda’s.
Friendly staff, fun music and yummy candy. This spot is not just a candy store it is an experience!

Walking into Rocket, I realized immediately that 1) there are more varieties of candy in this store than stars in heaven, and 2) I must have had a very deprived childhood because I was familiar with about three of them. Just the soda selection alone is enough to set your head spinning.
$ 4.99 will get you a large bag filled with your favorite individual candy selections. Now that’s a sweet deal!

This place is SO cute! I love their unique and wide selection of sodas, candies, and novelty items. Many of the candies bring back memories of the past. I couldn’t resist trying some unusual soda flavors like watermelon, cotton candy, Shirley Temple, banana nut, and mud pie plus a Judge Wapner cream soda.
I saw some hilarious silver and gold teeth grill candies and thought of Lil’ Jon. I also got excited seeing some variety packs of Now and Laters although too bad they didn’t have watermelon flavor which used to be my flavor of choice when I was growing up.
The guy working there was so nice and helpful.
In short, I was very impressed and will definitely be back to sample more of the unique soda flavors!

This place is awesome! I love root beer, English candy, and bottled sodas so I was pretty much in sugar heaven here. I picked up some root beer, bottled diet Coke (hard to find in glass bottles!), mallow cups, and some Smarties. Fun store and fair prices. Now, if they could only find and sell this bubble gum I used to get as a kid… it had soda ‘syrup’ in the middle and you’d get a blast of Coke, Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush, or 7-​Up when you first bit into it. That would be so fitting here!

Holy Moly Candy… This place is not huge but whoever setup the displays had to be OCD. This place was setup with so much thought and precision!
I love love sweet and sour candy and my boyfriend loves loves gummies.
We greeted upon walking in to the shop! We asked for a basket and they gave us one to shop away. My boyfriend quickly told the lady how he loves gummies so she took him around the store and gave her suggestions. By the time he was done he had about 5 different types of gummy candies. He ended up with Gummi Army guys, juicy twist with real blue raspberry fruit, sour inch worms, maynard gummys from the UK and a few others. One of my favorite was 3-​D Mario brothers gummies. They were etched to perfection and the taste was soooo great and sweet. For a pack of maybe 15 or so it’s $ 2.29. A little pricey but worth trying!
I got a variety of candy from special flavored now n laters to sour punch bites, extreme sour war heads and my favorite of all times sixlets…
This is not just a candy shop but as their name says soda pop shop, they had every type of flavored soda you could think of! We decided to get a six-​pack which goes for $ 8.99. The guy who helped us was very knowledgeable with all the different types. I got pineapple-​orange, which is like a cactus cooler but made with real sugar cane. I got a black cherry which was phenomenal!!! And the last one I got was Strawberry, I have yet to open that one! My bf got Mexican coke which was made with real cane suger, yum! The other he got was a Root Beer which he has yet to taste and a blueberry one that tasted oh so yummy!
You will not leave there feeling like you are missing something, they have everything you need!
$ 30 later we checked out and I said omg look cinammon toothpicks, I used to get those all the time… The lady threw them in my bag :) Super nice! You can get a punch card just for single soda purchases. I think they should have a frequent buyer card because than I would really be there all the time :)

This place just recently opened up. It’s right next to KC Crepes.
There are tons of candy here. The common ones like Skittles or Kit Kats.. . and the uncommon ones. Everything you can think of. They even have a big selection of Taffy.
I like the design of the store. There are lots of cool comics hanging on the wall.
