Saffron & Rose Ice Cream

First came here with my roommate as she told us about how great this place was. Walking in, I remember seeing so many flavors: both common and exotic ones. I tried to stick to something more common at first so I got Nutella which was ok.
My next few visits I decided to go ahead and try something new. The employee recommended the green tea with the lavender and I fell in love!!!
My favorites here are the green tea, lavender, white rose, and saffron pistachio ! Can’t go wrong with saffron pistachio if anything.
They also have lemon juice in squirt bottles which you can add to your ice cream which lowers the sweetness of your ice cream. A great combo!

After a garlicky seafood dinner at the Boiling Crab at the Westwood Village, we stopped here to cleanse our palate with some Persian ice cream. Persian ice cream is simply refreshing. However, if it is your first time, you will either like it or you won’t.
After circling the area to find parking, we found a 15 minute meter spot (cost a quarter) and made our way to this little shop. There was just too many choices! The girl let me sample a bunch, and even had me taste her personal favorites.
Persian ice cream uses ingredients not found in so called commercial ice cream, like saffron, rose water, cucumber, lavender, and so on. Some may say its like eating perfume, and I would not disagree. This place does offer non traditional Persian flavors like chocolate and mint chip, but why would you spend $ 4.50 on ordinary ice cream?
Stephen found his instant favorite: NUTELLA ICE CREAM, and we tried a sample. It was good. This is coming from me, a non Nutella fan.
We ended up taking home 2 pints: the saffron with pistachios, and a nutella (that was a given), and a small, 2 scoop of the pomegranate… which set us back $ 18.50.
If you’re not a fan of circling for parking, they do sell this at the Persian market. I am from Orange County and can find them at Wholesome Choice, but in Torrance, the International Market off Hawthorne and PCH has it, too.
4 stars because of the parking. Otherwise, it would be 5.

I love this place! They have a variety of flavors from Nutella to green tea. It can get busy during the evenings and it’s better to pay in cash. Samples can be given out if you ask. I love that I can get Persian style ice cream when I’m in the area.

How did I not know about this place sooner?!
So many flavors to choose from it was slightly overwhelming. I only got to try 2 and those were the ones I ended up with: cucumber and white rose. I absolutely LOVE the cucumber — so refreshing and light with real cucumber bits, not too sweet. The texture of the ice cream is thick and creamy — you can see it that it stretches when pulled, which reminds me of gelato.
Minus one star because the white rose was too floral and one scoop of it was a bit too much. Also service wasn’t the friendliest. Cash only after 10PM.
Seriously contemplating getting the 4 lbs XXL tub of cucumber ice cream next time.

I bring my kids here now. It’s been here for all 15 years that I’ve been coming. Don’t ever ever go away, you bring so much joy to so many of us. I have had gelato, frozen custard, ice cream, sorbets in all corners of the globe and they’ve got nothing on Saffron and Rose. Why go to Italy for gelato when anything in this shop blows the others out of the water. Freddie is so kind to my kids, he always gives us an arsenal of samples.

Small and tidy, ample seating, tasty ice cream.
Not sure it’s the best faloodeh I’ve had, but it wasn’t bad. And the ginger ice cream was surprisingly good, a bit on the sweet side, but probably the way to go for a mass-​market audience.

I’ve come to appreciate affordable and high quality ice creams and Saffron & Rose Ice Cream certainly belongs to one of my all-​time favorite ice cream shops in the SoCal. Why do I like Saffron & Rose Ice Cream so much?
* One-​of-​a-​kind flavors: Saffron with Pistachio, Faloodeh (crunchy wheat-​based noodles in a fragrant rosewater base), Orange Blossom (orange blossom water mixed in a milk base), French Espresso, Date, Cucumber, Ginger, Passion Fruit, etc.
* Service: I don’t know where Saffron & Rose Ice Cream found their workers, but they were SUPER friendly and gave tons of samples (to the point I started to feel bad from eating all these samples).
* Affordable: $ 4.50 for two scoops (small), $ 6 for three scoops (medium), and $ 7 for four scoops (large).

Lavender & Jasmine (two scoops, $ 4.50): One of the most interesting ice cream texture you’ll find — stretchy (like mochi), slushy, and creamy all at the same time. Subtle flavors with just the right sweetness. For $ 4.50, the portion was REALLY generous (I am talking about two GIANT scoops here and the same portion will cost you approximately $ 7 at other artisan ice cream shops).

Amazing Persian ice creams and one of the two must-​visit dessert shops (the other is the famous ice cream sandwich shop Diddy Riese) if you are coming to UCLA.
P. S. — You can also add additional cherry and lemon syrups (syrup bottles are on the tables), but I would just eat the ice creams the way they are.
P. P. S. — Traditional flavors like green tea, almond, strawberry, coconut, and watermelon are also available.

My friend suggested we try Saffron & Rose after dinner. I was talking to the two friendly staff members and let them know it was my first time. They were so quick to have me sample a few of their popular pairings of ice cream! Awesome. In the end, I opted for a small (2 scoop) for $ 4.50 with my choice of mango and coconut ice cream. The coconut was absolutely dynamite with the bits of coconut in every bite. The mango itself tasted fresh and not artificial. They really put a lot of love into the ice cream.
Wish there was an option for one scoop. They give a hefty scoop so I couldn’t finish my 2 scoops!
Since I walked over from a hotel I attended a conference at, I’m not sure how bad the parking situation is on the street. Parking is never fun in LA anyway.

Pretty disappointed unfortunately, came here with high hopes based on all the reviews.
Expected high quality homemade icecream, similar to other artisan icecream places since price wise it’s the same cost.
Mint Chip — 2 Stars
Tastes no different than your standard grocery store XXL pack you can buy for $ 3−4/gallon.
Pistachio — 3 Stars
A little bit better than you grocery store option, but still ways to go to be considered a good homemade flavor.
Price $ 4.50 for 2 small scoops, waaayyyy too expensive for the quality.
I’d pay top $ 2.50/$ 3.00 for this size and quality.
(Actually threw most of the mint chip away)
If you can afford to drive 5 minutes then I strongly suggest you go to Sweet Rose Creamery in Brentwood.
The Mint Chip there is light years better than this one and overall all flavors are stronger, more natural and unique.
Price/​volume is the same.

I wasn’t even gonna get anything here because the line was so long, but once inside it’s pretty hard to resist…
Noting my group’s status as first timers, we were handed out DOZENS of free samples without even asking. Multiple samples of the same flavors even! The servers even make you their special swirly drink thing. Don’t know what it was but it was cool looking and tasty. Employees really went out of their way to hype up the product so I had to get something!
The ice cream itself was delicious and a very generous portion. People hating on the service, I can understand because it’s pretty stressful for the employees given their commitment to quality service and the demands of the long lines. People should cut them some slack!
You don’t get quality service or ice cream like this just anywhere…

Finally got to try this place. I’ve had Saffron bookmarked since last September.
Parking:
As always in LA, parking is a struggle but there was street parking like a block down so it wasn’t too far of a walk.
Location:
The shop is next to a couple restaurants. It looks pretty small from the outside but they do have a few tables inside and out. There isn’t really room for the line that tends to build up. They could use like a divider to create an organized line.
Service:
Some of the previous reviews said service was not that great but I found the opposite! I thought the guy who helped us was super friendly. He gave me several samples and suggestions!
Price:
It is fairly pricey for ice cream. 2 scoops for $ 4.50. But worth the try I think!
Most importantly, taste:
The ice cream was really good! I sampled the saffron pistachio, white rose, banana, watermelon, cucumber. The saffron and rose were a little two floral for me that day. The banana was amazing. But the combination of watermelon and cucumber was the best, so that’s what I got!
Overall really good and so happy I finally got to try!

Never would I think I would get a chance to try Persian ice cream but this place made it happen! The ice cream itself is delicious but the customer service is the reason two stars kept me from giving a 5 star rating.

TWO SCOOPS (Cucumber & Green Tea): Although they have an immense variety of flavors these two caught my attention because they were super refreshing! I liked how the cucumber one had little chunks of cucumber in it. The worker was saying how these ice creams were dairy free which is why they didn’t make me feel too bloated. I liked how the flavors were really strong & true to the name. The green tea one didn’t taste like artificial powder green tea lol. Def. recommend trying these two! They let you sample as much as you want so you can try all of them if you wish!
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Not welcoming at all & they don’t really know what organization is when it comes to a line. Other customers were cutting others and the workers didn’t seem to care who came first/​who were already ready to order.

My new favorite ice cream indulgence spot ! The flavors are unique and amazing !! Absolutely loved the saffron and pistachio mix. The cucumber and watermelon was also an amazing combo. The young man assisting me was incredibly helpful and so Sweet (and cute !)! I can’t wait to go back !!!

Overall:
I’ve always wanted to come here but never had a chance. However, last Saturday I happen to be eating in the area at a Iranian restaurant and was excited to see that this place was across the street. If you love desserts and are adventurous, this is the place to try.
The ice cream flavors here are so unique. The flavors I remember were your usual strawberry, coffee, pistachio, green tea, but they also had odd flavors like saffron pistachio, jasmine, lavender, white rose, guava, cucumber, dates and more… I would say the fruit flavors were more like ice cream and not sorbet. I got guava without trying it assuming it would tasted more like sorbet, but this was definitely a thicker consistency like ice cream. Oddly enough, I liked the cucumber ice cream. It was more refreshing than my guava ice cream and it even had cucumber bits. My guava did have some crushed guava (couldn’t tell if it was crushed guava or if it was crushed guava seeds.) I would recommend getting samples and choosing that way instead. The unique flavors will keep you coming back for more.
Service & Environment:
First off, let me say that the service here is amazing! Most ice cream shops dread when people ask for a sample and sometimes take forever, but you can tell that the guys who were working here loved their job. They were quick to help me try samples and also give me more than one sample for each of my family members along with helping other people in a fast and timely manner. The ice cream shop is decent size. It probably holds about 20 seats. There’s only street parking, but you can park at Ross Department Store across the street and validate for two hours.

It’s a hot day and I was in the mood for something cold and sweet so I dropped by Saffron and Rose for some ice cream.
I like that they have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, and I especially like the exotic options.
I tried the cucumber and Jasmine. The cucumber was refreshing, nice for a hot day. However, the cucumber chunks were a bit much. It would be better if it were blended more. The Jasmine was great, it’s very floral and I really enjoyed it.
They charged $ 4.50 for two small scoops, which isn’t bad, but considering the sizing, you can get more ice cream for that price at other places.
Unfortunately parking is very difficult. I drove throughout the neighborhood several times before finally getting a space (I almost gave up). Given this, Saffron and Rose is probably more ideal for residents who can walk here instead.

Amazing, unique flavors and ice cream that hits the spot, plain old. Cucumber, jasmine, passion fruit, guava and none are too sweet. The cookies and cream was one of the best I’ve ever had– goey and creamy.

My roommate and I decided to check out this place on a whim the other night — easily one of my best decisions of the year!
I feel like this review might be me rambling on and on about how much this place is killin’ the ice cream game, so here’s a list of why you should try Saffron & Rose:
— Service is incredible. The server literally fed us samples of flavor combinations (not just singles!) and every single combo she made was amazing!!!
— Their ice cream is natural and infused with magic. It’s very light, almost like gelato, with very bold flavors (even cucumber)! Not too sweet either!
— Huge selection of flavors! Good luck!
— They have ice cream cartons to go so that once you’re done inhaling ice cream in shop, you can take a quart home and inhale some more ice cream in the comfort of your own home!
BASICALLY: Try Saffron and Rose. Foreals. The staff will take care of you, and you really can’t go wrong with pretty much anything here. Happy ice creaming! (That sounded so much better in my head)

I had this place bookmarked for about eight months. I had just been looking for a reason to head out to Westwood to try this place. Any reason. I had seen it on the top of some list about the best ice cream places in Southern California.
I found myself with nothing to do tonight, so I drove out to Westwood finally. I had hyped this place up in my mind, and it did not let down. The service was phenomenal. I walk in, and the guy can tell it is my first time.
Immediately, I am getting hit with sample after sample, combination after combination. All of them, out of this universe. I know I will not be letdown. I finally settle on the Jasmine and cucumber combination on this warm spring night. How refreshing! What a wonderful place. I’ve already sent text messages out to my friends to bookmark this place immediately. I will be back many many times.

You like or you love it. AND I loved it.

Located in Persian Square, Saffron & Rose provides delicious, thick and creamy ice cream with a nice dash of Persian influence. While they have traditional flavors here, the most popular ones include the Saffron & Pistachio ice cream as well as the White Rose ice cream. The Saffron & Pistachio is definitely an unique flavor, but is exceptional. The White Rose is similar to vanilla so you can’t go wrong there.
The best part is the people at the counter are happy to give you all the samples you would like and provide recommendations as needed. They sell 2 scoops for $ 4.50, but can do more scoops or have three sizes of pints.
Parking can be a little rough, but there is metered street parking outside the Ice Cream shop.

I popped in during a very hectic Persian festival that was going on down the entire street outside of this little shop so all I can remember from the flurry of activity and the blur of ice cream flavors, is that the quality & taste of these sweet treats is pretty darn high.
Their most popular flavors are the Saffron & Pistachio, & Rosewater. I got the double scoop & tried them both for a little under $ 5. Both the saffron & the rosewater give some very distinctive floral notes to the ice cream; the finish you get is super refreshing, & even soothing.
What makes the ice cream here distinctive is that it’s more of a Turkish-​style ice cream, which makes it a bit richer & chewier compared to regular ice cream. The rest of their flavors include a bit of everything from your run-​of-​the-​mill strawberry, chocolate, & vanilla flavors to the more exotic Eastern flavors like coconut, cucumber-​mint, & orange blossom.
Take-​home is also an option, as they have plenty of packaged versions of their ice cream ready to go in their freezer.

This may be the real thing. I ordered the Saffron ice cream w/​Pistachio: Persian saffron combined w/​rosewater, pistachios, chunks of frozen cream. I’d rather be surrounded by 20 five gallon tubs of this Persian ice cream in heaven than to be surrounded by 20 pristine virgins any day of the week bar none. (Anyway, virginity is sooo over-​rated. I’d rather have people of experience at least in my humble opinion.)
The heavy smooth dairy creaminess w/​that ineffable richness of saffron modulated by the fragrant sweet rosewater perfume, contrasted by the chewy, aged, woody, nutty pistachio texture is a profound tour de force exercise in ice cream making.
Faludeh which is micro-​thin, white corn starch pasta frozen w/​rosewater to act as a refreshing palate cleansing interlude between bites of the more elegantly cloying Saffron ice cream. I put a dab of cherry syrup on the Faludeh for a bit of sweet fruit gastrique
This shows that the ancient Persian kitchen, which can be traced back to almost three thousand years ago, can produce culinary extravagances beyond measure. I would certainly like to teleport myself to the court of Darius or Cyrus the Great, when people worshiped Ahura Mazda attributed to founder Zoroaster, and to have witnessed the apogee of sumptuous, princely Persian court cuisine. Alas, I am 2,500 years too late. 4+ Unilocal stars.

I haven’t been here a while so I don’t know when they remodeled, but the new place looks nice! Very modern with glass and extra chairs.
Persian ice cream is thicker and melts slower than normal ice cream… it’s almost chewy. Truly a delicious texture.
They rotate around flavors and have some mainstays, but the most popular are rose, pistachio, saffron &pistachio, etc.
I love that you can get exotic flavors like mango, cucumber, pomegranate, watermelon, orange blossom, passionfruit, etc while still having more convention flavors like peanut butter, chocolate, mint…
There was a mid 20’s man serving me and he was very friendly. They are generous with samples and encourage you to branch out and try new flavors!
I sampled the passion fruit and you could tell it was made with the real fruit. Very refreshing.
Small cups are $ 4.50 and they take cash and credit.
However, the best bang for your buck is to get the pint, quart, etc sizes.
My one pint was $ 7.00 which is probably about 3 – 4 of the small cups. Packaged in an insulated bag which was really nice!
I got the white rose which is my flavorite flavor. Delicate rose taste with nice small chunks of frozen cream mixed within. Super authentic and I like chewing on the cream, but if you don’t like the cream you can request they avoid it. I’ve seen customers request EXTRA frozen cream so different strokes, different folks:)

You can get poppy seed slush and the little noodles in rose water slush on top of your ice cream, and there’s lemon juice and sour cherry syrup in squeeze bottles on the side. I love the cherry sauce… perfectly tart and goes great with ice cream.
Overall: I like to come here every time I’m near. I love family owned places that are friendly and do one thing and one thing beautiful-​and this place 100% fits the mark!

Some of the best, most interesting ice cream flavors I’ve ever tried.
Found the location on Unilocal and with the name Saffron, I knew it’d be interesting.
The store itself is on the smaller side with general tables and great seating along the windows. The owner is very nice, and clearly works all day everyday at this location. He lets you try as many flavors as you like, which I appreciate very, very much.
* I highhhly recommend the CUCUMBER and the Nutella. The cucumber was amazing and like nothing I’ve ever tried before. It was so fresh, galato-​like and had small cubes of fresh cucumber in it. The Nutella was just like Nutella, delicious.
Parking is wherever you can find it, there’s 15 min parking right in front of the store that is pretty convenient.

What a place, undoubtedly the best icecream spot on the west side. As I walk into the store I see people of all age groups around the store enjoying variety of icecreams.
The gentleman standing behind the counter does an incredible job of explaining you about their best variety of natural flavored icecreams and keeps on offering you different flavors to taste.
I decided to give the saffron pistachio and dates icecream a try and I should say by far the best natural flavored icecream I’ve eaten in the area.
The smallest portion comes with two scoops of icecream and the scoops are pretty generous which can be shared by two people. A must try place for all you Unilocalers with a sweet tooth.

Professionell. Besser nur noch in Tehran selbst.
