My first time here, and I completely fell in love with the service and food! They use fresh fresh roll, and other ingredients, carefully compose everything together like a painting –yes, I took that from Ratatouille. I believe it was some type of vinaigrette dressing, the tangy taste and the crips veggie, hmmm hmmm, so fulfilling. It is definitely a treat for eating healthy. The subs are very affordable, about 6 – 7 for a good size sub, nothing like the one you get from subway – I dislike chain restaurants – no offense. One downside is the place is cash only! Can’t wait to come back and try more!

So two days ago, I went to Health Hut, and today I went to Sandwich Island. This place is also equally amazing. Cheap sandwich(not as cheap as Health Hut since this place has more meat options) and they also offer hot sandwiches. I got the pastrami with cheese, and besides the salt sprinkles lady kept making, which made the sandwich taste a bit salty, I really liked the sandwich. It was cheap, delicious, and she was very fast too. Definitely recommend it. Place is also inside the University Village food court. Don’t miss it!

I didn’t realize this place was located inside the food court, so it took me awhile to find the place. I’m glad I persevered because this place is awesome! I ordered the Turkey avocado sandwich and it was delicious! They put an entire avocado in my sandwich. Not only was the sandwich delicious, but it was only around $ 5 for the sandwich! If you’r elooking for a cheap, quick, healthy meal, Sandwich Island is definitely worth frequenting

The quintessence of hole-in-the-wall eatery. Located in a dilapidated food court in the middle of LA, an elderly Asian couple exuding wisdom and serenity to channel sandwich chi, have owned this business for more than 2 decades. Walking in there, I will say I was sublimely exhausted, famished, and had no idea what to order. That is when I met the first sandwich master. She sharply asks me what I would like, and like an inspiration I saw an image of pastrami. She then proceeds to walk me through my sandwich asking me question after question with lightning pace. It only takes about 10 seconds to get my order down, but I want to say she asked me around 8 questions fixings. The husband of this amazing duo then prepares my sandwich with the speed of a viper, seeing to it that my wait time is minimal. The meal itself is fantastic and rejuvenating to my very soul. With each bite, I found myself ready to take another, even though I had yet to finish my current mouthful. The combination of salty-savory meat, accenting condiments, and crisp toasted bread left me in a blissful state of satisfaction. While this unexpected food adventure cannot be accurately measured due my state of exhaustion, I will say that I have only cried while eating pastrami this succulent one other time in my life. So here’s to you Sandwich Island; may I pray for your good fortune!

I recommend having a steak cheese sandwich. I didn’t have avocado but I noticed the lady using a lot of avocado on the next sandwich. Next time I will definitely have avocado next time. Also, the lady has great humor, great customer service. Try their pickles, they taste great.

Sandwich Island! Sandwich lady is the best. It only takes one(maybe two) orders for her to get to know you, and if you always order the same thing, she memorizes your order. My favorites are the turkey avocado with sliced wheat bread, and when I want a hot sandwich, the pastrami cheese. I’ve also heard good things about the steak cheese and the salmon lox bagel. Nowadays, all I have to do is show up and she’ll have already begun my sandwich. Love her potato salad too, and always happy to top it off with Arizona Iced Tea or Snapple. Cash only; usually I tell her to keep the change. This leads to her sometimes charging me, say, $ 5 instead of $ 5.20 or whatever it may be, so I think it actually evens out. In my opinion, this is the only sandwich place worth going to within walking distance of SC – or in the vicinity for that matter. Her sandwiches always come out ridiculously fast and photoshoot-fresh(like Jay-Z). She plans to retire once the UV is renovated at the end of either this year or next, so hurry up and order your sandwiches now. She also caters for large orders. PS: If you speak Mandarin or Shanghainese, go ahead and speak to her in that language. Her English is great, but I think she enjoys the conversation in her native language.

About a year ago I found myself seated next to a gentleman eating a sandwich that smelled SOGOOD that I had to ask him WHERE on earth I could get one. He directed me to Sandwich Island in the UV with enthusiasm and I’ve been a die hard Islander ever since. Cash only, probably the only reason I make sure to have cash. They are generous with avocado(Turkey Avocado) which one can appreciate and the prices are awesome. I like to switch it up with their chicken and tuna salad, steak cheese, and salami, and the ingredients are always fresh! Clean execution – no sloppy sandwiches here – provides ample opportunity for sandwich porn(as seen in the photos). Love it. LOVEIT! USC students, everyone, come here!

Subway does not EVENCOMPARE! The Steak cheese sandwich blew my mind! My taste buds haven’t felt this good since 1999!!! And the turkey avocado with bacon was simply a gift brought down from the Gods, to completely redefine what a sandwich should be! The sandwiches are packed with the finest ingredients found on earth. They are very generous in the meat, veggies, all the good stuff! The customer service is also absolutely fantastic. Some of the friendliest people I’ve interacted with! A must try! Move Subway, get out the way!

I got a bomb roast beef sandwich. I was huge and they were generous with the amount of meat and avocado they put on. I would come back for sure.

Tried their sandwiches twice now. Their popular turkey avocado was pretty good. But nothing extraordinary. It didn’t make me go «mmmmmmmmmm» I heard their steak and cheese is pretty good. the turkey avocado was $ 5.30 and they only take cash! Honestly, I’d rather hit up the subway right next door. Maybe I’ll come back to try the steak and cheese, but not for the turkey avocado.

Oh my gosh. Forget Subway. Why didn’t I know of this place earlier?! Sandwich Island’s turkey avocado on wheat literally saved my life earlier today from one of the worst hangovers I’ve ever had. Let me tell you, they don’t skimp on the ingredients! Lots of turkey, probably a whole avocado, and the perfect amount of veggies to bring the sandwich together. It’s stacked pretty high, so you might have some difficulty eating it… but no matter! It’s too delicious to resist. Also, the owners are so nice. Apparently, my friends eat there all the time, and the lady is super proud of her fresh avocados. How cute! My next target is the lox bagel. I’m comin’ for you!

I found this place thanks to Unilocal and I love it. I don’t go to USC so I’m not that familiar with their campus so it took me a little while to actually find it(I’m also pretty directionally challenged). So, if you’re like me you’ll need this info– Park in the Superior parking lot, walk through the rusty«University Village» gate that looks like it leads to nowhere and keep going straight to the glass doors of the food court, and it will be immediately on your right hand side. Great sandwiches, fast, and friendly. My favorite is turkey, bacon, and avocado. I’ve even gotten sandwiches in the am to take to work for lunch. Make sure you have cash.

I don’t know why there’s so much hype about this place. I got the regular sized Steak & Cheese for $ 5, and it was just a-okay. I think the bread makes or breaks the sandwich, and their bread is just pathetic. It has that stretchy texture, where you’re chewing on the bread for longer than desired. Blech. Other than that, the inside meat and cheese were pretty solid. I’ll come back and give it another chance. Next time, I’ll ask for toasted bread.

This place is a hidden life saver in the UV food court. Sometimes when you aren’t feeling like eating greasy fast food, a delicious sandwich from Sandwich Island can hit the spot. It’s usually an Asian lady working here and she is fast! They PACK the sandwich with a ton of meat so you totally aren’t being ripped off. There are also a bunch of fresh vegetables to choose from and their avocado is amazing! One sandwich really fills me up because the serving is quite large. My favorite is the turkey but my boyfriend likes the pastrami. Everything is clean, fresh and fast. Awesome!

First of all, CASHONLY! Second of all, why did I not visit this place even once over the past 2 years?! MISSINGOUTONLIFE… The first time I had Sandwich Island was when my roommate brought the Turkey Avocado home. I ate a few bites and was so amazed. But I was kinda iffy when I heard the place is in the UV. Silly noobie me have always thought the food in the UV is crappy. Boy, was I WRONG! Yesterday I dragged my lazy butt to the UV food court for the first time and was so amazed by the variety. Found sandwich island on the north part of the court and bought my very first Hot Cheese Steak Sandwich with a side of cole slaw. Holy cow, ITWASGOOOOOD. The cheese was perfectly melted in between the well-seasoned steak pieces. There was a perfect amount of tomatoes, lettuce and onion in between two toasted buns. The best part was, this is only 5 dollars with tax! MINDBLOWN Another time I revisit and got my very own Turkey Avocado, again, I was blown away by the freshness and the tastiness of the sandwich. The secret sauce this place put in the sandwich is a little sour, a little tangy, a little salty. I WANTSOMEMORE! Beware of the big sandwich full of tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and big pieces of avocado. It will leave you wanting more every single time! Guys, dont me like me and skip out on Sandwich Island… Forget the over priced TCC food court and bike or walk over to the UV… I promise this place is sooooo worth the walk! Here is to another 587394287459 sandwiches that I will try to chow down before I graduate in May :’(

turkey Avocado: amazing. And these sandwiches are gorgeous! No wonder the lady who works there is so proud of her sandwiches :) Everything tastes fresh and healthy and is super super inexpensive. The lady who works there is so sweet and we had a conversation on how she loves her job and she’s just really enthusiastic about her business. **CASHONLY

SO. GOOD. The steak and cheese sandwich is amazing. I’ve been to the UV food court quite a few times, always going for the salad place across. However, craving a veggie sandwich once I had theirs and the bread kind of fell apart. So I tried this place instead and omg so good. After I first tried this place I kept coming back every other day for about two weeks because I was addicted. I love getting the steak and cheese sandwich on wheat with potato salad. The chinese woman taking your order may be abrupt but is deadly accurate and will have your sandwich done before you can even say what sandwich you are going to pay for at the cash register. The steak is well seasoned and perfectly marinated and juicy with cheese that stretches out like it does on a pizza commercial.(Pics included FY reference) I normally avoid onions at ALL costs(even if I have to forego a meal) but this is a scenario I don’t mind so much with the steak sandwich. The onions are sweet and the texture not raw and crunchy and gross, just complements the steak. Prices are so cheap too! around 5 bucks for a huge sandwich. I haven’t gotten around to trying a different sandwich since I am always brought to my knees by the steak and cheese but some day it’ll happen!

If you’re ever craving a bite to eat but don’t feel like going to Subway for their insubstantial sandwiches, this is the place to go. :) I really love this joint. The lady behind the counter is super friendly and efficient. Any cold sandwich can be turned into a hot sandwich(aka meat+ cheese melted, bread toasted, all that jazz). I usually get the turkey avocado and ask for the cheese to be melted= yummmm!!! There may not be a much of a variety in terms of vegetables you can add, but all the vegetables are fresh and Sandwich Island never skimps out on the veggies. WINNING! Every time I order here, I’m always thinking«this is what a subway sandwich should taste like». Hit this place up asap if you haven’t already. Trust me– you’ll get more than your money’s worth. :3 warning: this place is cash only so be sure to bring your wallet, not your card!

Everything about this place is amazing. I came here with my friend and we both got the bacon turkey and avocado sandwich(he got the regular and I got the giant) with a side of potato salad. Okay one word of advice… the gian is HUGE… it’s 2 of the regular sandwiches, so I ate one and took the other one home. The lady who was working(maybe the owner?) is sooo nice! The sandwich was incredible… we were both blown away! And the potato salad was great too. I 100% reccommend this place and I’ll definitely be back. Just one thing, it is kind of hard to find, as the signage isn’t very good, but when you enter the food court through the main entrance it’s directly to your right.
