We were missing NY style Jewish Rye. This is the place. The real deal. The cookies excellent. The pastries took off a star for being a little heavy and sugary, Kosher breads, cookies and pastries are all delicious. Worth the pilgrimage.

I have gone to this place few times and i had the same experience every time, rude and unprofessional staff. As i was there today I had a question on the menu and the guy refused to answer, he said you can read the menu better and get your answer, later on I asked him for the Wifi password and his respond was I don’t have the password, go and ask the guy in the kitchen, i asked the guy in the kitchen and he said I don’t have it he has it. Avoid this place till they get rid of the rude staff.

I WAS going to order my wedding cake from Schwartz… at first Mark was really nice over the phone, and really excited that I was potentially coming in on Sunday. Something came up, and as I would have been driving up from San Diego(that’s over 2 hours without the LA traffic) I ended up not coming. Instead of contacting me and asking did something come up and did I want to re-schedule, he lectured me for wasting his time, and wanted to charge me $ 30 for the samples of dairy cake that he made for me. I told him that price was unreasonable, and that I don’t believe it is fair for me to pay for something that I didn’t use, and wont be using. «You placed an order and then didn’t come or inform us that about anything and I told you over the phone that there was cost associated with these samples and now you are telling me that I am unreasonable? I waited for you to come and you wasted my time? You don’t want to pay for anything and you think that that is reasonable on a moral and ethical basis? You are threatening me to go to Unilocal and hurt my business because I asked you to pay for samples that I made that you ordered? I am the one being unreasonable? Pay me whatever you want, but I deserve compensation. My time and the product are worth something. « This is not good customer service– other people would be understanding, and would not demand to be paid, and then try to guilt someone into sending money. I’m not really worried about«hurting his business» because according to Unilocal already(with 3 stars anyway) you have already hurt your business more than I would be able to. I apologized for the misunderstanding, but clearly money is more important than good feeling, or a good recommendation for the future. You run a business. You could write this off as a loss, instead you are more interested in being right. asking $ 20 instead of leaving a good experience and having me send one of my friends in the future for a dairy kosher cake…

The food and coffee was not good at all. I got a Greek salad and iced coffee. I returned both but they refused to give me my money back. Instead they said I can pick out something else. I don’t believe the remedy for bad food is more food. Bad food, bad service, wouldn’t come back.

Their cakes are wayyy too sweet for me so if you’ve got a huge sweet tooth this is your place. Their caesar salad is bomb but get it to go because they’ll give you more. Got the fettuccini pasta with mushrooms and they use real cream and butter!(and not that fake margarine crap). The only thing though was that it didn’t have any salt in it so it lacked a bit of flavor(also paid an extra 50 cents for little shards of mushrooms so not really worth it). The mozzarella panini’s bread was good and so was the fillings but it too was a bit bland for me. All in all good place if you love super sweet cakes and a salad to go for a quick, light lunch before Shabbat starts.

I stood for ten minutes and didn’t even get acknowledged. In an area full of good bakeries huge mistake. You lost a customer.

Horrible experience today! Called in at 11:10am to order lunch to go, was informed 10 minutes and it would be ready, I gave them 20 minutes. I arrived at 11:30, put 10 minutes in the meter out front and waited in a fairly long line where everyone else was getting pastries. After a couple of minutes I was next and told them I had a take out order waiting, they told me to wait at the counter behind me which had no cashier or other customers. I followed her direction and waited for about 5 minutes with no one coming to help me until I went back to the bakery line to talk to any employee that would help me. I was again informed to go wait in at the empty counter, and when I said«no one has been there to help me» she responded«we aren’t responsible for take out orders here, you have to wait there.» Finally someone arrived, at around 11:45(35 min after my order was placed on the phone), rang me up and then told me he’d be back with my food. He added«do you ride a motorcycle? You’re getting tickted out front.» Sure enough, I’d been there 25 minutes already and got a meter ticket. I didn’t receive my take out order until 11:55, 45 minutes after I had called it in and 25 minutes of waiting in their horribly run bakery for service. Salmon was average, will NEVER return to this hole in the wall(to be clear I don’t discriminate against holes in the wall; some of my favorite places in LA are run down, cheap and delicious). This place just sucks.

Avoid! They advertise something they don’t have! False advertising. When I went in to ask about the offering the guy at the counter was rude. He didn’t care and said the owner doesn’t care. Don’t goto this rip off fraud of a establishment !!!

I have been going to Schwartz bakery for so many years and I never noticed the unpleasant Unilocal reviews. Schwartz Bakery Pico is great the staff are so nice and the owner Mark has been always so kind to my children’s school always contributing for causes! what a shame to see people writing such negative comments I sometimes feel its competitors that do this. Unilocal it’s such a great service but can really be used for the wrong things by wrong people This place has the best breakfast for your buck in town! they give you a nice portion of scrambled eggs a bagle of choice, coffee salad and cream cheese just $ 6 !! They have the real original Danishis! The Hispanic mgr on the restaurant side is always so nice and with such great personality. In short I love this place! Levi

They’re food sucks and they’re customer service sucks more. I got kicked out at 1:30 after ordering food when they close at 2:00 and had to eat my food at McDonald’s. However the McDonald’s was clean as f“ck so I rate it a 5

BH Schwartz bakery /circa café is always on my list of «go to places» on my quarterly visits to LA. It’s a really nice and relaxing atmosphere, a good place to just have a morning coffee or to sit down for a breakfast, their food is really good and fresh especially their signature hash browns that comes with the breakfast combo. As well their baked goods are very tasty and fresh! The owner, mark, is a really nice guy and the rest of the staff are really patient and helpful.

Great food. Love that place for breakfast/brunch. It’s very reasonably priced and the omelet with cheese is really good.

Worst passover sweets ever! Dry & tasteless! The cake was like wood chips. The frosting on the carrot cake was pure fat, no flavor, no sweetness… Just the kind of shortening greasy schmootz that coats the roof of your mouth. And after paying almost $ 50 for it, nobody could eat it! What a waste!

If I could give them negative stars I would. Went in to order a birthday cake for my daughters birthday; First off the staff has the most horrible attitude and mind you this includes the owner of the establishment. We were not greeted NOT even with a simple Hello and treated as if they are doing us a favor by paying minimal attention to us. Then they charge us over eighty dollars for a quarter sheet cake. We pay in full and leave to work. We get a call from the girl behind the counter, very rude and demanding that we pay another thirty five dollars because we wanted a dairy cake which makes absolutely no sense because the owner was the one who«priced» the cake(yes that’s right they don’t have a set price list and will shout out any price that they feel suits you). I asked nicely if the girl would tell her boss to honor the price he gave us and her only answer was NO. Not apologetic at all!!! So then I proceeded to cancel the order went in to get a refund and they kept on beating around the bush«the owner is not in, he can only process refunds.» The owner then told his staff to charge me fifteen dollars I refused so he said fine I will not charge you but I did not want to give my business to such dishonest persons. Charging almost half the price of the cake because I wanted it dairy??? C’mon guy I wasn’t born yesterday. Their product is not fresh and there are flys buzzing around inside the counters where they store the food. It is really quit stuffy and gross in there too. I demanded a refund and it seems it is taking forever for them to process. So people STAYAWAYFROMTHISFRAUDULENTESTABLISHMENT.

If I could give –5 stars, I would. My husband and I have been trying bakeries around town and today we visited Schwartz. The pastries looked pretty good and we purchased Black & White cookies, Danish, 7 Layer Cake and a few other sweets. We went there specifically to purchase bagels, lox and cream cheese, but they were out of everything except for a bag of plain bagels. We purchased the bagels and a bag of mini Challah. The bagels are essentially round bread rolls, no similarity to a bagel at all. The Challah was stale as were the Black & White cookies were very dry. The $ 127 Layer Cake was dry ad nothing special. Nothing tasted fresh and everything was quite bland. We spent almost $ 40 on goodies which turned out to be baddies. We are very, very disappointed. The girl behind the counter seemed annoyed at any question I had about any baked good and couldn’t muster up a smile or good manners. We won’t be back. So far, Beverlywood, which is only a few blocks away has much better baked goods and bread and for Bagels, The Nosh on Little Santa Monica, still wins.

Way better than Pico Café for breakfast. Prices are better. They do not force tip. Food is more delicious. Even the coffee was great. We ordered a panini and shakshooka. They don’t wait on you, which is fine as long as the food is good, which it was.

If it were possible to give zero stars I would. Horrible quality and even worse customer service. Made mistake of buying wedding cake here. Over $ 500 later ended up throwing cake in trash at wedding due to quality looking so bad. Afterwards they refused to respond to email or return phone calls. After I eventually got a hold of manager, completely denied any wrong doing. Then admitted hadn’t actually seen cake even though wanted to claim it was great. Still refuses to return calls or help in any way. If you want to throw money away and get awful quality and service this is the bakery for you.

I have not been here in a very long time. I walked in to get a pastry in a cup of coffee. Much to my surprise there were flies buzzing around in the display case with all the cookies, pastries and cakes and not just one there were several! The counter person was oblivious to this and also did not know what was in the pastries when asked. Yuck!!! Very sad to see… this was once a great kosher bakery! I had to walk out.
