My husband wanted to come here for the Hainan chicken… it’s located at one end of a Hollywood motel The place is cash only, We were told to seat ourselves… We got #25, Hainan chicken, $ 6.50 Chicken is good but portion is rather small, there is only one dipping sauce that contains ginger with thickened, slightly sweet soy based black sauce. Comes with well flavored small bowl of chicken broth…3 stars #4, rice porridge with pork, $ 4.50 The porridge is a little runny and pork is in the form of meatballs…3 stars Drunken noodles with chicken, $ 6.95 Medium spicy, chewy noodles, not greasy, perfect amount of basil and chicken pieces on a bed of lettuce…4 stars Off separate value menu, got leek rice pancake… comes with 3 pieces, look and taste like leek filling in glutinous rice buns flattened to a pancake… works…4 stars We came for the Hainan chicken but found the drunken noodles to be the star dish (Written by the husband)

It’s really hard to get good Hainan chicken around this side of town, especially after our fave Singaporean spot in ktown closed down. Their chicken is the main star here. Flavorful rice and a really good soy-ginger dipping sauce. Ordered the rolled rice noodles with pork and a Tom Yum noodle soup. Everything was good. I could do without the rolled rice noodles next time. They might have been too aromatic/medicinal for my tastebuds. Next round: leek stuffed fried rice cakes, papaya salad and my own Hainan chicken plate. Too good to share with the husband!

We enjoyed Thai breakfast! Had Thai donuts, pork and egg porridge, thai coffee with condensed milk and intestine soup! Everything was good! We visit here every time we are in town. They open at 6am in the morning. It is cash only. They do take out too. I see a lot of call coming through for the Thai donuts orders! Don’t forget tofu with sweet Ginger yum! They serve that with small thai donuts! Love love! They are cheap too!

Great food, but sub par service. Double check your checks. We’ve been overcharged a few times, but we still keep coming back. The fish and shrimp porridge are the best and anything on their specials menu is good. Also get the potango(Chinese donut) if you come in the morning for breakfast. They also have Thai coffee with condensed milk, echo is crucial. Again, make sure to double check your bill before you leave!

We stopped by for the Chinese donuts(they were out of it) and the tofu pudding. Overall, the interior is your standard Asian restaurant. Not super clean but passable, simple and straightforward décor, and your standard tables and chairs. The tofu pudding was good, but I felt like the soup was extremely too gingery. The ginger spice overrode the rest of the dish that I forgot the tofu pudding.

A very hidden spot within the heart of the East Hollywood area, Siam Sunset is one of those places where people will have a hard time finding on the streets. Interestingly enough, this place serves Thai breakfasts, a branch of global cuisine which I have not even tried in my life. This time I ordered the Fish Porridge and paired it with a bowl of Fishball noodle soup and everything is as good as it gets. The Fish Porridge is smooth, rich, with a raw egg yolk added on top to develop a creamy texture. Unlike those typical porridge/congee places where the porridge might be too salty, Siam Sunset’s Fish Porridge does not seem salty at all. It is nicely flavored. As for the Fishball Noodle Soup, it reminded me of those Southeastern Cantonese Fishball Noodle Soups in China, a classic taste indeed. The fishballs are chewy and bouncy to the taste buds; the soup is light and nicely cooked. Unfortunately, the Chinese/Siam donuts were sold out this time, which means that I would have to come a little earlier to get a taste of it. Nevertheless, this place is a hidden gem within the Hollywood area and I am glad I have landed my footsteps into this often-overlooked breakfast place.

just killer khao man gai and probably the best in LA. chicken was moist and tender, great flavor drippings in the rice and their KMG sauce was perfect with just the right amount of heat that would hit you at the end. their veggie pud see ew was also really good and reminded us sanamluang in terms of flavor. we will be back again…

I love this place to the moon and back and then some more! my HIH/HRH family and relatives have been eating here for the longest time. and we are always so happy and enjoying of here. their dishes are always scrumptious! so scrumptious that I want their cook to be my live in cook haha. I am not joking. I miss not having a live in cook anymore because I used to have various ones growing up every year in my HIH/HRH parents’ houses. ate here last night and am going again tonight with my HIH/HRH dad for dinner! :) I SUPERRECOMMENDEVERYONETOEATHERE!!! the best of the best! the best than the rest! :)

The restaurant is plain and bare but the food is awesome and authentic Thai. It is in front of American value hotel. Don’t be fool by the iron cage door. Just open it and let yourself in. It serves Thai style breakfast which encompass pork, shrimp, or chicken rice porridge or «joke», Kao Tom, rice with pork blood broth, Hainanese chicken Kao mun gai, egg noodle with roasted duck, and fried dough sticks with sweet condensed milk. Although my friend raved about the fried dough, I am disappointed. It is supposed to be in pair like the Chinese style fries dough or youtiao I packed slow cooked pork leg or kha moo over rice in foam box as lunch to go for my airplane ride. Big mistake. No more foam container. It leaked. The Hainanese chicken works the best.

Authentic thai breakfast! LoL I love this place, there are everything I’m craving for. I can go there everyday cos I couldn’t have everything in one meal. If you’re looking for real authentic thai food, thai town are the best place to go for. There’re a few open early until late night even 24 hours lol just like Thailand you can find something to eat for 24 hours.

Whenever my family wants legit Thai food, we drive to Thai Town in Los Angeles. The parking here is kind of bizarre because they share the same parking lot as a motel. The restaurant is kind of hidden, so when you see a blue Motel sign, just pull into the parking lot and then you’ll see the restaurant. I like that they have a sampler menu, where all the items are smaller portions and priced at $ 3.95. That way, you can have a greater variety of foods. There are about 8 items on this menu, but my family and I usually just get the mussels over bean sprouts, noodles covered in sweet pork with egg, and the thin rice noodles in a sour soup. All of the dishes are pretty good so I suggest trying a couple as appetizers. We always get the BBQ pork over rice too. It comes with three-layered crispy pork, an egg, and Chinese sausage with the red sauce. I really love this dish because they cook each of the elements perfect. The pork is perfectly crispy but not too dry and the Chinese sausage is thinly sliced and really flavorful. We always end the meal with the soft tofu in ginger with the fried breads. The fried breads kind of remind me like croutons, but when you soak it in the ginger soup, they all go together perfectly. Be sure to try this at least once. Usually when we come on a weekend, the soup tastes pretty diluted because I assume they are busier during the weekends, but the last time we came on a Monday, the ginger soup was so flavorful with the hint of spicy ginger. Most of the items on this menu are of acquired taste because I took my more Americanized friend here once and he was not that pleased with the dishes. However, when my Thai family and I always want some legit, authentic Thai food, we always come here even though it is a bit of a drive for us.

Food was a 5, but minus one for service I ordered the shrimp paste fried rice and it was soo good! On top there was egg that was super fluffy, but crispy, sweet pork(it’s crispy but tender), cucumbers and green apples. I didn’t care much for the sauce on the side because I felt the dish was salty enough. I tried adding a little bit and it made it too salty for my taste. But without it was perfect. For me it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. I highly recommend this dish! I also ordered the fried doughnuts with condense milk. We ordered donuts to start with but the waitress told us there was none left. Then a group of 6 was seated next to us 10 minutes later and they ordered the same fries doughnuts that I thought they have ran out of. So we asked for some. And sitting at the corner seat, made it very hard to flag the waitress down. But after a while we were finally able to order those doughnuts. These doughnuts were so good I forgot to take a picture of them before I began eating them! They’re super fried and crunchy on the outside but super soft and moist on the inside. Dipped in condensed milk, just made it even so much better! I would definitely just come back just to order a few orders of these for myself! YOUHAVETOORDERTHISIFYOUGO! If not you’re just missing out!

I almost don’t want to review this in fear that the word spreads and I will have to wait for a table. But after reading 188 positive reviews and seeing only one non-Thai customer I’m sure I’m safe enough. Two of my favorite Thai dishes are Hainan Chicken($ 6.95) & Tom Yum Soup($ 3.95) and this place does not disappoint. Even the Pad Thai my white friend ordered was the best I’ve ever had. All together, everything was flavorful, delicious and an excellent remedy for my hangover. Sorry brunch, but Siam owns you.

If you order nothing else at this restaurant, you really must try the deliciously fluffy, yet chewy Chinese donuts with condensed milk. I know Hollywood is all about diet & exercise, but hey, YOLO. I know, please don’t shoot me. Anyway, delicious doughnuts aside, the menu here is a nice balance between uniquely traditional Thai cuisine like Intestine with pickled mustard, and more widely-known options like Fried Wontons, Curries, Vegetable soups, BBQ rice dishes, and A La Carte dishes like Roasted Duck with Basil & Chili. They are most known for their Rice Porridge, however, and if you’re Hispanic, you’re used to the sweeter rice porridge with cinnamon & honey. This version is more on the savory side, with your choice of meat– fish, duck, pork, chicken, or shrimp. I actually went with the vegetarian version which is really just the rice porridge topped with chives, soy sauce, & ginger. I will admit, I prefer the sweeter version, but this isn’t half bad. And the portions are huge for what you pay for. For just under $ 6 I was able to enjoy a steaming bowl of rice porridge with a side of Chinese donuts. Not a bad way to break your diet, I say. For you first-timers out there, this place can be pretty hard to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. There’s actually a blue-painted Inn that the restaurant is connected to called something like«America’s Best Value Inn» or some such nonsense. The restaurant’s sign is really faded, so pay close attention to the building colors, and you should have no trouble. Enjoy!

Don’t expect any frills from Siam Sunset. Their communal cafeteria-esque tables and wandering servers are about as basic as you can get. But basic isn’t a bad thing here — Siam Sunset is as authentic as it gets. The Thai Iced Tea is textbook and it soothes the burn from the perfect Papaya Salad. The Glass Noodle Salad is soft and hot, made savory with piles of ground pork and sprigs of cilantro. It was a new thing for me, and I definitely didn’t regret trying it. You can’t go to a Thai restaurant without ordering curry, and the Duck Curry is right on. The curry is thick, and you can taste the duck infused into every bite. You’re not going to get 5-star service at Siam Sunset, but you don’t get better Thai anywhere else!

The Vegetarian congee was amazing. Though they have all kinds of congee(chicken, pork, etc.). I got mine with tofu and a delicious poached egg in the middle, some finely chopped green onions and thinly sliced ginger. It was everything I ever hope for in a porridge. The Chinese donuts looked freshly fried and the iced coffee looked better than the hot coffee(though maybe thats because I got my hot coffee without condensed milk-epic fail on my part)! The environment is humble and simple. The colors are warm, the place is a dive, but absolutely authentic. I forgot I was on Sunset Blvd. and believed I was in Thailand for the hour I was there. The Café was filled with Thai people, less than a handful of us were of other places. An old man sat reading the Thai newspaper and waited for his sons. A Thai family fed their baby congee; and a young man came in looking for the restaurant owner selling purple orchids for the Siam Sunset Buddhist Altar. Signs on the wall reminded customers about parking rules and regulations for the neighborhood. Adjacent to a hotel. Inconspicuous and low key, the food is what will be bringing me back time and time again. The service was also stellar, but that is generally my experience from Thai restaurants in general.

If you have any idea what Thai food really is then you’ll definitely appreciate how good the food is here. They’ve got a large menu to choose from and whether it’s a rice dish, noodle dish, or their porridge, the food is stellar. Siam Sunset opens early and is THE place for breakfast items like porridge and fried doughnuts with condensed milk. There’s also a Specials Menu with noodle and rice dishes for $ 3.95(yes, the portions are decent for that price too). Try the tom yum noodle soup or the green curry with Thai spaghetti. Both are great and are on the Specials Menu too. This is a true hole in the wall where you will enjoy seriously authentic Thai food. There isn’t much to look at but if you love Thai food then you can’t go wrong here. Still one of my favorites, but it’s still CASHONLY too. At least they’re now open until 8pm, Mon-Sat and until 4pm on Sundays.
